When to relax with a child in Montenegro. Holidays with children in Montenegro: resorts, family hotels. Where is the best place to relax with a child in Montenegro?

– great opportunities beach holiday on the Adriatic coast, combined with a rich and vibrant excursion component. You can relax here in different ways, successfully combining business with pleasure.

Each coastal resort is ideal for a relaxing holiday on wonderful beaches. But inquisitive young tourists will certainly want to go on interesting hikes in the mountains, natural parks, mountain rivers and lakes.

They will also enjoy exploring ancient architectural monuments, ancient monasteries, and beautiful resort towns. Original Montenegro is a country that cannot be fully explored unless you go on excursions.

Small beautiful Montenegro(its population is just over 600 thousand people) is very rich in attractions. To see everything, you will need a trip of at least two weeks. But if you wish, you can explore the most interesting tourist sites in three or four days.

Traveling around Montenegro with children on your own is not difficult. The roads in the country are good, the buses are mostly new and equipped with air conditioning.

It is convenient to start your bus journey from the Budva bus station. From here you can reach almost every attraction. Travel time to the city of Ulcinj (the southernmost point of Montenegro) is approximately 2 hours.

Almost the same amount will be spent on travel if you go to the north of the country to the tiny resort of Igalo (close to the Croatian border and the city of Herceg Novi).

To the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, the road along a mountain serpentine inland will take approximately 1.5 hours, to the old capital of Montenegro - Cetinje - about an hour, to mountain resort Zabljaka (the furthest from the coast) – more than 4 hours.

Sights of Montenegro

Large Montenegrin resorts offer a lot of entertainment for little tourists. These include visits to the water park, mobile attractions of Luna parks, museums, entertainment centers. But, probably, what they may find most interesting are fascinating excursions through the dense forests of the Black Mountains, ancient castles and medieval fortresses, perfectly preserved to this day, as well as boat trips on miniature islands.

City tours

The country is diverse and multifaceted: small resort villages located on the coast are not at all like villages lost in the mountains. Having visited the Adriatic Sea, it would be a sin not to get acquainted with its coast from Budva to Ulcinj, wander through the streets of cozy ancient towns, admire ancient buildings and natural monuments.

Let's start our excursion route in Montenegro from the tourist center - the city of Budva. It is not only the most popular beach resort. This is the oldest city on the Adriatic coast, which was ruled by the Venetians from the 15th to the 18th centuries, who built powerful walls and fortresses to protect against the Turks.

Old Budva a classic example of a medieval old town - Stari Grad. Life has not yet stopped in the sandstone buildings with a five-hundred-year history, located on the winding streets. They house shops, travel agencies, cafes, and some are even inhabited by people who calmly open the shutters every morning and sip aromatic coffee on the steps of their rare home.

All tourists who find themselves in Montenegro strive to visit Old Budva. The fabulous atmosphere of a medieval city with ancient temples and churches, with the best examples of Venetian architecture, unique residential buildings, cobbled winding streets, the aroma of strong coffee and fresh Mediterranean pastries with the indescribable smell of special spices makes you come back here again and again.

Old Budva is not only powerful fortress walls that protected the city’s small population from Turkish invasions. Its main pride is the Citadel or the medieval fortress of St. Mary (began to be built in the 9th century) with a stunning observation deck, offering a beautiful view of the sea, Old city with orange brick roofs and nearby islands.

On the territory of the Citadel you can visit Maritime Museum, in a library that contains ancient books telling about the history of the Balkans, in a secluded restaurant or in a theater under open air, where chamber concerts of ancient music, theatrical improvisations, festivals are held, and national children's ensembles perform.

The Archaeological Museum with a collection of exhibits from the 4th-5th centuries BC, the Gallery of Modern Art, a large number of Catholic and Orthodox churches and churches. Another attraction inside the Old Town is a small antique market, where you can buy an original and original souvenir as a keepsake.

Attractions and entertainment in Bar

Immersed in the greenery of olive groves and orchards, the Bar is divided into New and Old.

In Old Bar, surrounded by a powerful fortress wall, with narrow picturesque streets, you can admire the mosques and ruins of the old city, a stone aqueduct, a clock tower - all this is a legacy of more than 300 years of rule of the Ottoman Empire.

From the fortress walls of Old Bar you can see panoramic views of New Bar, the sea and the port. The main attraction of the open-air museum is palace complex King Nikola, which today houses a local history museum.

New Bar, located at the edge of the sea, is a modern resort town. Its attractions are the Church of St. Nicholas, the monument to the liberators of Bar, and the residence of the Catholic Archbishop.

Sights of the Bay of Kotor

In the Bay of Kotor, time with children flies by, alternating during the day between relaxing on the hot sand in the warm water of the bay with visiting historical buildings and boat trips along the stunningly beautiful bay.

It is not difficult to get to ancient Kotor, protected by UNESCO, with children, and it is also easy to climb to the highest point of the ancient fortress along the stone steps, on which a thousand-year history is imprinted.

Kotor (a city built before our era), hidden at the very end of a winding and narrow bay, with a fortress on a hill, is a real living city, and not a museum at all, which can offer a lot of interesting tourist sites: churches and cathedrals of Gothic and Romanesque architecture, powerful towers, fortress walls, princely palaces and mansions.

There is an opinion among tourists: if you have not been to the Bay of Kotor, consider that you have not been to Montenegro. It is impossible not to see the fortress of St. Ivan, the Sea Gate, and the city market.

Near Kotor there are towns in the Bay of Kotor with beautiful houses with red tiled roofs, island churches, a collection of Roman mosaics in Risan, and luxurious Baroque villas in Perast.

Herceg Novi a tiny town located on the hills at the entrance to the bay at the very beginning of the Bay of Kotor. The most beautiful and green, simply drowning among rare plants arriving from different parts of the world, attracting with natural and architectural attractions.

It is also known as " Botanical Garden Montenegro" due to the growth in these places relict plants and trees. You can get here by bus or by sea from the piers in Budva. Tivat Airport is 30 kilometers away.

The city was founded more than a thousand years ago. It was destroyed to the ground more than once and was reborn again. This is probably why many medieval architectural monuments have been preserved here: the fortresses of Arza, Forte Mare, Kanli Kula - Bloody Tower, Spaniola, the Mamula prison island, colorful old houses, a clock tower, the Orthodox Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the Savina monastery, an ancient fountain Karacha in the city center, maritime museum.

As part of the boat tour you can visit Blue Cave with amazingly colored water and the former presidential beach Žanjica.

Tivat

Many tourists consider Tivat as a place of entry into the country because of the airport located here. In fact, it is also a conveniently located resort with good beaches and interesting places to visit.

Of the significant ancient attractions, this is perhaps the only medieval castle Bucha (summer residence of the Lukovic and Bucha families) in the city center.

Cetinje

If you go inland away from the coast, you can visit the cozy, unhurried old Montenegrin capital Cetinje with many museums (folk, ethnographic, art gallery and others), see part of the Cross of the Lord and the right hand of John the Baptist in the Cetinje monastery (this may be interesting for Orthodox believers ).

Ostrog Monastery

Ostrog Monastery is perhaps the most important Orthodox shrine in Montenegro. To see the temple carved on a steep rock in a cave, you will need to climb to the Upper Monastery, which is located a kilometer above sea level. Monks still live in the monastery, but it is also open to tourists.

It’s probably impossible to get here on your own (there are no regular buses, it’s a bit far to walk from the nearest stop). The only option is an organized excursion.

Excursions to natural attractions

The fantastic natural park "Durmitor" in the continental part of Montenegro is amazing. This is a huge area where you can swim in the cold water of the mountain Black Lake, wander along forest paths and paved hiking trails, inhaling the aroma of pine forests and ripe strawberries, admire the canyon of the Tara River and Lake Skadar, on the banks of which there is a whole scattering of ancient monasteries and medieval fortresses .

Those who are more resilient and well equipped (hiking shoes will be required) can push themselves and defeat Bobotov-Kuk ( highest point Montenegro and the top of the Durmitor massif in the Dinaric Highlands).

Lake Skadar is another site that is advisable to visit with a child. This is a very large body of clear water, rich in rare fish, pelicans, cormorants, inhabited by many birds, with shallow coastal waters buried in thickets of yellow water lilies and water lilies.

You can go around the lake unforgettable journey by renting a boat. Along the way, you can swim, walk around the islands, watch the living creatures living here, and even fish to your heart’s content.

Teenagers will be interested not only in getting to know the wild nature of Durmitor, but also, once in these places, visiting the unique Piva Monastery, seeing churches, historical monuments, fortresses, majestic ruins, and the famous Djurdzhevich Bridge.

Djurdjevic Bridge and Tara River Canyon

The beautiful Djurdjevic Bridge offers an impressive view of the Tara River canyon - the largest in Europe.

This one is unique natural complex included in the UNESCO list. In winter, skiers flock here in droves.

The mountains in Montenegro deserve special epithets. Not far from Kotor in the southwest of the country is one of the symbols of Montenegro - Mount Lovcen, which rises majestically above the Bay of Kotor, and national park with the same name.

The path to the top, where the mausoleum of the outstanding statesman, poet and thinker Peter II Njeguš is located, runs along a breathtaking serpentine with various landscapes flashing outside the car window. The very end of the path must be walked, climbing 461 steps.

Co observation deck, located behind the Njegus Mausoleum, offers excellent views of almost the entire small Montenegro.

Advice: when going to the mountains, take light jackets and windbreakers. It can be cool there even in summer.

Water activities in Montenegro

Rafting with children on the Tara River

The lands of the Durmitor Nature Reserve are dotted with deep cracks in the canyons of the Tara, Nevedio, Draga, Sushtitsa rivers, breathtaking in their views.

On Tara, you can take children from the age of seven on a dizzying “steep” rafting trip along the winding river. Extreme fun water route designed specifically for children and completely safe.

But there are so many emotions, delight and indescribable sensations. At stops in quiet creeks you can take a break and take great pictures as a souvenir. And after performing feats on the river among the greenery and silky grass, have a delicious lunch of roast veal at a picnic.

It will take about four hours to get to the canyon along a mountain serpentine road: with an excursion, on your own by car or by public transport to the town of Zabljak, having previously agreed on a transfer to the Tara area.

Boat trip along the coast

You can go on a cruise along the beautiful coastline with steep cliffs covered in greenery rising straight out of the water.

A coastline with stunning landscapes, long beaches, quiet coves, ancient architectural monuments, famous islands(Island Hotel St. Stefan, St. Nicholas Island) - delights not only adults, but will also give new emotions and joy to children.

Such a trip with children on a boat or yacht can be made from any resort town. And it is not at all tiring (lasts about 1.5 hours) even for kids, sheltered from the hot sun by spacious awnings.

Visiting neighbors

Once in Montenegro, you can do day trips V neighboring countries. The closest place is Croatia, but without a Schengen visa you won’t be able to go on an excursion to Dubrovnik, Croatia. But you can go on a one-day excursion trip to visa-free Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and even Italy.

In the last option you can do one day tour V Italian city Bari. You can get there by ferry from the city of Bar (Montenegro). Mostly believers come here to visit the burial place of the remains of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. To travel, you must obtain a permit in advance, which gives you the right to stay in Italy without a visa. You can also go to Italy with an open Schengen visa.

And if everyone is already tired of long trips or you don’t know where else to go on vacation with children, it can always help short trip to the National Park in the center of the country on Mount Lovcen. You can also visit the Adventure Park, which features aerial trails with various obstacles. The huge territory of the park, in the shady coolness of which everything is permeated with adventurous routes from airways, stairs, nets, bungees, swinging logs, flying vines, requires young heroes to overcome exciting obstacles. And in this they are helped with no less enthusiasm by the older generation in the person of their parents and even grandparents.

For children of different ages, 6 safe routes of varying difficulty have been developed, where you can test your courage and dexterity. For the youngest (from 5 years old) there is a yellow Koala trail (its height is 1.5 m). Children over 14 years old will be interested in the blue Cheetah trail at a height of six meters, as well as the green Spider-Man trail, the red Panther trail, and the black Tarzan trail with a height of 15 meters, where not only children show dexterity and courage.

In the park you can play paintball “war”, ride ATVs, bicycles, small ponies, and shoot a bow. For a reasonable price, you can have a tasty and satisfying lunch here with your children. The exciting adventure park is located 15 minutes from Cetinje and 45 minutes from Budva in the Ivanovo Korito recreation center.

Waterpark Mediteran (Becici)

As an alternative to a beach holiday at sea, you can visit a water park. In Montenegro, this is so far the only water amusement park at the Mediteran Hotel (2 km from Budva). Admission is free for hotel guests. You can get there from neighboring resorts by bus or train.

A water park with a variety of slides and children's attractions, swimming pools, and a canal simulating a river, along which children enjoy floating on buns while basking in the sun. For children over 3 years old there is a swimming pool with two slides.

Definitely, excursion Montenegro is a country where you can and should not only travel with children. It will surprise you not only with its beauty and varied landscapes, comfort and safety, but will also give you the opportunity to experience medieval culture and get acquainted with the life of other peoples, breathe clean mountain air and bask in the hot sun. Until then...

Olga Jess:
The biggest advantage of Montenegro is the absence of a language barrier (almost everyone here speaks or understands Russian well) and an excellent attitude towards children. And also here beautiful nature and stunning mountain air, which will benefit the health of both children and adults.

Anna Shakirova:
Montenegro has a unique climate; it is useful to come here with children who often suffer from bronchitis. What’s important is that it’s not far from Russia. From my own experience, I can say that this country is suitable for traveling with small children, including when the mother travels alone.

Anna Zhiltsova:
Montenegro is a beautiful country. In my opinion, it is ideal for families with children. Locals adore children (sometimes even too much, I think). There is not such an abundance of entertainment as in large European resorts (although construction of a water park has now begun), but there is beautiful beaches, cozy bays, bays - sea, mountains, measured life, all kinds of animals and reptiles (turtles roam the roads). Children really like all this.

When to go

Olga Jess:
The best month for a holiday in Montenegro, especially with children, is September. When it’s not so hot anymore, but the sea is still warm, there are significantly fewer people on the beaches, and prices go down. And September is harvest time. Grapes and figs can be eaten straight from the branches. I recommend going from the end of August to the end of September.

Olga Fedoseeva:
It is better to go with preschoolers in September. It is better to avoid traveling in August due to the abundance of tourists and the heat.

Yulia Antoshina:
If you are planning a trip for a month or less, then it is best to choose August or June. In July-August, rotavirus always walks along the coast. If you go for a longer period, then I would go from April to July and from September to November.

Anna Zhiltsova:
The ideal time here is from late April to mid-late June, and then after the second half of September. Yes, lovers of extreme heat can come during the peak season, but sometimes the air can be so hot and humid that it is impossible to do without air conditioning in the very morning. Children are hot and have difficulty sleeping. Plus my personal experience as a mother of a child with allergies: in the heat, children sweat more, causing more skin irritation. For how long to go - well, as finances allow, of course! Optimally at least a couple of weeks.

Where to live

Anna Shipitsina:
Budva is convenient because the city has a bus station, a hospital, a private clinic, a private laboratory, many grocery stores, beauty salons and game rooms (games - at the bus station, at the recreation center - “ Masha”, in the area of the Slovenska Beach hotel complex - “ Alexander,” in the center on Mainsky Put - “ Theater"). The main disadvantage of Budva is that there are a lot of tourists. So many!

During the off-season, you can also stay in apartments, but you just need to choose decent housing - dry, clean, with new furniture. But in the season, it’s better to stay in a good hotel, but here I have only two options - the Splendid hotel and the Iberostar. In Budva, you need to choose a hotel by the sea; it can be quite noisy in the Old Town.

Another option is Tivat - there is a children's playground, a beautiful embankment, shops and infrastructure.

But the most inconvenient city for me is Herceg Novi, because of the numerous stairs - it’s hard to carry a stroller and constantly get up and down.

Herceg Novi. Photo: Yuri Koltsov

Olga Fedoseeva:
In my opinion, cities should be avoided altogether and settled in the private sector or in villages located on the coast. Hotels or apartments - depends on the budget. In my opinion, apartments are cheaper and more comfortable, but you need to rent on the spot or through friends. Many Russians rent out their apartments and houses, and, in my opinion, they are worth choosing. Food in hotels is monotonous, it makes no sense to focus on it.

Olga Jess:
Becici, in my opinion, perfect place for holidays with children. There are good beaches and developed infrastructure. Cafes, restaurants, many grocery stores, pharmacies, clinic. All sorts of entertainment for children: attractions, playgrounds, water park. At the same time, it is quieter and fewer people here than in neighboring Budva. But if you wish, you can get to the most popular Montenegrin resort in ten minutes by bus or even walk along the beautiful embankment.

In my opinion, it will not be very convenient with children in Herceg Novi. Firstly, due to the fact that the city consists almost entirely of huge stairs, and due to the lack of a normal beach (within the city limits you can only swim on the concrete embankment. - Ed.).

It is most convenient to live in apartments with children. Firstly, it's cheaper. Secondly, when you have your own kitchen, you can always prepare your child’s favorite dish. But it is worth noting an important detail. In popular resorts, cafes and restaurants are noisy until two in the morning. Therefore, it is better to choose housing away from the sea, oddly enough.

Yulia Antoshina:
For me personally, it is always more convenient to stay in an apartment, since the child is small and I cook for him myself. But in Montenegro there is a good Iberostar hotel (Becici), where excellent conditions are created for children.

Maria Smolkova:
The most convenient place to relax is in Becici - wide beaches, there is entertainment for children, there are shops, pharmacies, a medical center, many restaurants and cafes. At the same time, there are no noisy discos and frantic bustle.

For me, the most inconvenient places in the Bay of Kotor are the beaches are too narrow, most are located next to the highway, there is no entertainment, and the water is not clean everywhere. Many people are looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle to relax with children. Here you need to understand that often in such quiet places There is no even a normal supermarket or a children's doctor. There is a small shop with bread and milk and that's it. Not to mention the playgrounds. This must be taken into account. Also, many here are looking for a beach with sand, but small pebbles are healthier and the beaches with them are cleaner.

Bay of Kotor, Perast. Photo: Natalia Danilova

Anna Shakirova:
Budva and its surroundings (Becici, Rafailovici) are very convenient because they are close to the airport and have developed infrastructure around them. But I always choose Ulcinj - it takes two hours to get there by car from the airport, but I like the city and it seems very cozy.

Where to swim

Anna Shipitsina:
It is worth swimming where there are the least number of tourists. For example, on paid beaches - near St. Stephen (but not everyone can afford it - 50 euros per day) or in Budva (Mogren 2, Jaz) and Ploce in Lastva. For those who are just learning to swim, there is Plavi Horizonti - it is quite shallow along the shore. The time is in the morning, until the water is saturated with iodine and everything from the bottom has not been shaken up.

Olga Jess:
Some people like printed beaches, others like pebble ones. With kids, it's best to have both on hand. So that the child can play with the sand and throw pebbles into the sea. There is such a variety of beaches in Becici. It’s also great that there is a smooth entrance to the sea and no big waves. In 2015, two beaches in Becici were awarded the Blue Flag. The water there is really clean.

Mogren Beach

Yulia Antoshina:
We love three beaches that are located near us: Jaz, Trsteno, Ploce. There are small playgrounds on Jaz and Ploce. Trsteno is good because it has real sand (not small pebbles, which are often found on the beaches of Montenegro) and a shallow, flat bottom. The infrastructure in all cities is approximately the same.

Maria Smolkova:
It is best to swim on non-city beaches - for example, on Plavi Horizonti (not during peak season), always clean on Velika Plaza in Ulcinj.

Beach at Sveti Stefan.

Velika Plaza

Anna Shakirova:
I vacationed in Utekha (there is a small pebble beach) - I really liked it. In Ulcinj there is Velika Plaža (13 kilometers of ashy sand) - just the thing if you are relaxing with a child. In addition to the sand there is a shallow sea, great for children. Beautiful pebble beach - Valdanos.

Anna Zhiltsova:
We didn’t really like the famous Jaz near Budva during the peak season, although in general it is child-friendly, there are a lot of different activities for children and adults. During peak season, dirt on the beach and large crowds of people are common. But this is also the case in other countries of Southern Europe. And if you go swimming from the very morning, until 10–11 o’clock, then there won’t be that many people. From personal experience: the water in Boka is colder than in the open sea and in the Gulf of Tivat. Especially near Orahovac - many mountain rivers flow into the water. But this is also a plus - the water here is clean, less salty, and during the entire season we have never encountered rotavirus.

Health

Anna Shipitsina:
Regarding illnesses: for three full seasons, my son has not been sick with anything. We wash our hands, don’t put anything in our mouth (we arrived when he was not even five years old, now he’s eight years old), in the sea - hedgehog slippers, a Panama hat on his head, and protective cream. All medicines are available in pharmacies - if not, then they find analogues. We encountered medical problems the year before last - the pulmonologist only tormented our son: either worms or a blood test for antibodies; As a result, I took tests at a private center on the recommendation of our doctor from the Russian Federation. Medicine for tourists is very expensive, the price does not correspond to the quality. Most often, tourists themselves are to blame: they catch the rotavirus, start the course of the disease and immediately end up under IV drips. In five days, the treatment bill can cost 1,000 euros.

Olga Jess:
The most common summer disease is rotavirus. But it can be found absolutely anywhere in the world. Therefore, you need to pay attention to hygiene - thoroughly wash your hands and vegetables/fruits. Children in their first year of life can be vaccinated against rotavirus. Before traveling, be sure to take out medical insurance. I had to call a doctor several times through my insurance. To do this, I simply contacted the insurance company, and they themselves found a Russian-speaking doctor nearby who came to the house even at night. Medicines prescribed by a doctor are also covered by insurance, but only after returning home.

Yulia Antoshina:
If you follow the standard precautions against rotavirus, then everything will be fine: do not swim in pools, watch your child so that he does not take water into his mouth at sea, in restaurants it is better to feed the child with your own cutlery. Well, pay attention to hygiene, wash your hands before eating.

Maria Smolkova:
The incidence of rotavirus increases during the season. This is unpleasant, but, as a rule, the disease subsides after a couple of days. Very young children may have a more severe illness because of the risk of dehydration. The main thing here is to drink water in very small portions, but often. Local doctors will always come to the rescue. There is also a risk of sunstroke. Everyone knows the precautions - do not be in the sun after 11:00. Small children should be out of the sun after 10:00. I'm talking about the summer months. And, of course, apply sun cream to prevent sunburn.

Leisure

Yulia Antoshina:
In Montenegro, igranitsa (indoor playrooms) are common everywhere, and small playgrounds are often found on the beaches. In Budva you can go for a walk with your children, for example, on a bicycle, balance bike, scooter, etc. For entertainment: the beach during the day, after a nap after lunch, walks away from the coast, often Cetinje - it’s cooler there, there’s no sweltering heat, good parks for walking. In Ivanov Koryt (“Lovcen”) there is an amusement park - rope courses.

Anna Zhiltsova:
Here in Kotor, I can recommend the House of Artists

– is not only marvelously beautiful, it is safe and comfortable, which is why every year it is increasingly chosen as a resort where the whole family goes, bringing the kids. Sweltering heat is rare for Montenegro. The abundance of greenery and clean mountain air are healing agents for any child’s body.

Local residents have elevated children to a “cult”, and this can be felt everywhere. Many cafes and restaurants offer children's menus, and supermarkets have a wide selection of everything that babies need. Montenegro can offer a huge list of excursions for children on clean air, as well as interesting and fun entertainment. At the resorts there is always something to go and see with the whole family.

The most fabulous time in Montenegro for a holiday with children is the beginning of autumn, when the air is clear, fresh and warm, and the sea along the coast warms up during the hot summer and is ready to welcome children into its tender embrace.

Avanturisticki Park (Cetinje city)

1 of 4

If you don't know where to go or where to relax, Montenegro offers a wonderful short trip that you can take with children to the center of the country in the National Park. Here, among the amber pines, whole families have a great time, walking in the cool shade or actively covering adventurous routes. The entire vast expanse of the park, located on Mount Lovcen, is permeated with aerial tracks with a bunch of exciting obstacles, including nets and ladders thrown from tree to tree, swinging logs, bungees and skateboards on a rope, flying “vines” and platforms where you can take a break. And not only children, but their parents and even grandparents have a great time here. Children of different ages test their dexterity and courage among the thickets, overcoming traps and difficulties at different heights, and teenagers can dare to bungee jump. In total, 6 routes of varying degrees of difficulty have been developed - for everyone. The passage of each air trail lasts from 30 to 60 minutes, so it is unlikely that you will get tired here.

The yellow trail with the funny name Koala at a height of 1.5 meters is enthusiastically mastered by children over 5 years old, the blue trail called Cheetah, which runs at a height of six meters, is of undoubted interest for children over 14 years old. There is a green Spider-Man route and the most difficult trails - a red Panther with 17 obstacles and a black one dedicated to the magnificent fast Tarzan. Here adults show miracles of dexterity and self-control at a height of 15 meters.

The air path park is completely safe for children, since special attention is paid to this factor. Professional instructors are present in the playing area constantly, monitoring the movements of children and adult players, checking the serviceability of equipment and equipment, including the mandatory distribution of helmets, carbines and gloves.

Visitors of all ages rush among the trees, enthusiastically indulging in a game of paintball “war”, riding bicycles and ATVs. Kids saddle little ponies galloping merrily around the park, teenagers imagine themselves as Robin Hoods, hitting targets with a bow.

Prices in the Park are very reasonable. There are also restaurants here where children can be fed heartily and tasty food. The Adventure Park is located in the Ivanovo Korito recreation center.

Waterpark Mediteran (Becici)

This is the only amusement park with water in Montenegro and is designed more for school-age children and adults. The coolest attraction for teenagers - the Cyclone - invites them to take a chance, quickly sliding inside a closed pipe, falling with a squeal into a huge “creepy” whirlpool, and plopping down into the pool at full speed. A river flows around the circumference of the park, where children, tired of entertainment, float in peace on “cheesecakes,” sunbathing in the sun and clapping their hands on the water. The area is small, but quite convenient for having fun on the downhill slopes, in the jacuzzi and five swimming pools. There is a place to relax both in the shade and under the sun, and then eat to your heart's content. For preschool children there are two slides and two swimming pools, and ramps for baby strollers. The water park itself is located on the territory of the Mediteran Hotel. How to get there is not a question; you can do it yourself by train or by Mediterrani Express bus, or on your own from neighboring resorts.

Rafting on the Tara River (Zabljak)

If you are tired of a quiet beach holiday, your kids want adventure and activity, you can take your child to the canyon of the beautiful Tara River in the Durmitor Nature Reserve. There, parents and children make an exciting journey, rafting along a winding river. For children over 6 years old, this is real pleasure, fun and a test of character. Moreover, parents can relax without worrying about the safety of their child, since the water rafting route has a 2nd degree of difficulty. And this means both safety and quite “steep” jumps with screams and squeals on the thresholds. Such a fun and extreme route is quite suitable for 7-8 year old adrenaline seekers who can hardly be pulled away from the rafts. Everyone is given special helmets and equipment, which especially pleases children who feel like real cool travelers. The rafting route lasts about 2 hours in July - August, and less than an hour in May - when the river is filled with water and rapid force. At stops in calm backwaters, everyone relaxes and takes pictures, enjoying the wildness of the rocky slopes and the riot of colors of nature. You won’t notice how the whole day will fly by amid the spray, sun and wind, leaving you with a great adventure in your memory. Tara gives an indescribable thrill of fullness of life, movement, skipping hearts and delight in the beauty of the river and banks.

In addition to rafting, the excursion includes a round trip with breakfast and a hearty lunch of roast and veal after exploits on the river. The unofficial name of the Tara River is the tear of Europe. The river received this well-deserved name because of its fabulous crystal water with an amazing emerald glow.

You can get to the canyon by car, and although the journey is not long (about 4 hours), the stunning luxury of the landscapes and mountain serpentines do not let you get bored for a minute. For kids on the road, it’s worth taking lollipops to prevent motion sickness on winding mountain roads so that their ears don’t get stuffy. You can get there by car, following the map, or by bus along with a tour. Easy to use public transport to get to the town of Zabljak and having arranged in advance a transfer to the Tara area.

Walk along the sea along the coast

A short journey along the blue-green waves along the Riviera coast is a tireless and impressive entertainment that gives both adults and children a lot of joy and new emotions. The coast itself delights with long, pristine beaches and steep cliffs that will take your breath away. Children will see nature, as if depicted in fairy-tale illustrations, the sea shining in the sun and ancient architectural monuments. In the southeast, if you sail from Cape Yaz, there begins a series of wide bays and quiet, lovely coves with sand and pebble beaches, where you can spend a wonderful day swimming and sunbathing. It is easy to walk along the coast from many cities - Budva, Petrovac, Rafailovici, Becici, Sveti Stefan, and fast boats leave the piers hourly. Taking a sea voyage with your children, you will show them the famous island-hotel of St. Stephen and St. Nicholas, where boats and yachts moor. On the island there are amazing grottoes, through which boats filled with admiring travelers quietly pass. Dark cypresses and olive groves, juniper, wild pomegranate, pine trees and acacias, cacti and sweet figs - all this plant luxury, lush, bright, fragrant, amazes the imagination with its wildness and fabulousness.

Even the smallest children feel great on a walk, since the boat does not feel seasick at all, the journey lasts about an hour and a half, and the spacious awning provides protection from the hot rays.

Skadar Lake (Skadarsko jezero) and fishing

Almost forty years ago, a new national park was born in Montenegro - the majestic and ancient Lake Skadar, filled with playing fish and feathered inhabitants of coastal and island thickets. In ancient times, the waters of the Lake were plied by ships of numerous tribes and peoples - Romans and Turks, Hellenes and Illyrians. People come here from any resort to wander through the picturesque ancient villages on the coast, get to churches and fortress ruins on the mysterious islands that are so attractive to boys, and enjoy the quiet silvery water and marvelous nature.

In the dark ages of the Middle Ages, in the centers of culture - monasteries and monasteries - persistent Christian monks copied the works of Aristotle and the Venerable Bede in scriptoria. One of the most mysterious monasteries, located on a hill and surrounded by impenetrable swamps, is the 15th-century Kom monastery, in which a single monk lives. And only in dry times can you get to the ancient walls along a narrow path, otherwise - only by boat. You can easily come here with a child on a full-day excursion - they are organized in any resort town due to its high popularity.

In Rijeka Crnojevic, where the old Konak Perjanik restaurant still operates, it's easy to rent a boat and sail around Lake Skadar, touching the cool lilies and watching the many birds that love to settle here. Children are especially interested in amazing cormorants and, of course, pelicans, which are best seen from August until March. And recently, to the delight of both old and young, another wonderful animal appeared in Lake Skadar, which children adore - a fat hippopotamus, which tenderly loved the blooming lilies and quiet waters.

Bird hunting is prohibited here, but you can go fishing to your heart's content and combine all the pleasures - swimming, walking around the islands, admiring the beauty of the coast, islands, fortresses, watching animals with active fun fishing. Moreover, the catch on the lake does not disappoint anyone, because when organized excursion tourists are taken to “fed” places, and the fish, mainly fatty carp, can be fried on the shore.

Durmitor National Park

1 of 8

The land of Durmitor is a fabulous place, like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. In Latin, "durmitor" means "sleeping." And this name, undoubtedly, suits ancient glacial lakes, deep and still, flowering sleepy meadows, and dense coniferous forests, where birds are heard loudly and red squirrels jump merrily in the high branches. And the bright colors and fragrance of roses, orchids and white lilies delight the eye. In the heat, this land breathes gentle warmth and peace, it is not for nothing that many tourists flock here, escaping from the beaches onto winding and picturesque walking paths, taking a break from the heat in the lacy shade of trees and on the terraces of original restaurants.

Of the 18 mountain lakes, the most famous are the “black-eyed” Black Lake, shaped like eyes, and Snake Lake. They are easy to reach on your own from tourist Zabljak, or to the toy northern towns - Shavnik, Pljevlja, Mojkovac - surrounded by fields and meadows where curly sheep walk.

The lands of Durmitor are crossed by deep canyon cracks - Tara, Draga, Nevedio, Susica - the views of which are breathtaking. On the Tara River, children from the age of seven simply revel in “cool” rafting, horseback riding among dense thickets and mountain valleys, enjoy swimming in crystal lakes with cool water and fun, delicious picnics on the silky grass. And in the Adventure Park on Black Lake, entertaining rope jumps through the air between majestic trees await them. Renting bicycles and boats makes it possible to travel without fuss and problems both along the quiet waters of the lake and along winding paths among rocky thickets.

But other than amazing wildlife Durmitor also attracts with the splendor of architectural creations that teenagers must see - the unique Piva Monastery, fortresses, historical monuments, the famous Djurdzhevich Bridge almost 400 meters long, churches and majestic ruins.

In winter, snow-covered Durmitor offers no less exciting time with the kids on ski resort Zabljak, where it’s so fun to ski, warming up by hot fires, where the smell of juicy kebab is so fragrant and seductive. And from the cold, after walking on the icy lake mirrors, “dive” into the hospitable embrace of a hot bath.

Boka Kotor Bay

One of the pearls of Montenegro shining under the sun is the Bay of Kotor. If translated from the ancient language, its name sounds like “Cattaro’s mouth,” which immediately gives rise to the image of something undoubtedly impressive. This is actually true, because the emerald-turquoise water in Cattaro Bay, along which wind-driven sailboats glide, magically changes color with the play of lighting and the vagaries of the weather. To go down to it with children and splash around, there are very convenient stairs along the entire coast of the bay.

And warm clear water, in which children clap their hands, trying to grab fish, and fabulous nature with picturesque mountains, surrounding the bay, deliver an unforgettable holiday feeling. With children you can easily get to the wonderful ancient Kotor, which is under the protection of UNESCO, and climb to the very top of the ancient fortress along many stone steps that remember the thousands of thousands of steps that have rustled along them for centuries.

And Herceg Novi is simply drowning in an abundance of rare plants that arrived at the Botanical Garden from the farthest corners of the world on the ships of local sailors.

The Bay of Kotor is a place where you don’t notice time, and you can spend the whole day here with the kids, moving from the hot beaches near the warm water of the bay to historical buildings, alternating relaxation with exciting trips along the bay. And then they won’t get bored for a moment.

Going on a trip with a child to an unfamiliar country for the first time without a package tour is a little scary. Experienced independent travelers advise those who decide to do this to first choose a country that is friendlier, convenient for traveling with children, preferably without a language barrier.

A good option might be Montenegro or the country of the azure sea and black mountains of Montenegro (as Europeans call it). Why her? Probably because in well-groomed and clean Montenegro, located on the Adriatic coast on the Balkan Peninsula, there are excellent opportunities for family holidays.

What attracts Montenegro?

Nature

These are magnificent natural resources and the unique beauty of these places, sometimes reminiscent of views copied from postcards. The transparent Adriatic Sea, magical lakes, fast rivers, amazing mountains, picturesque rocks, bright sun, medieval cities - this country is beautiful everywhere.

Cost of holiday

Relatively budget holiday another advantage of holidaying with children in Montenegro. Relatively because it will depend on your holiday destination.

The most high prices for food and accommodation in the major tourist center of Budva, in the popular resort of St. Stefan, in Kotor. In cities like Tivat, Bar, Podgorica, Herceg Novi - it’s already a little lower. And if we look at small resort villages far from the sea, it’s even cheaper.

Nutrition

How relevant this topic will be for you depends on the type of residence. If this is a large hotel with an all-inclusive system, the problem is solved on its own. Another situation is when you need to take care of the food yourself.

By the way, Montenegrin local products are very healthy and environmentally friendly.

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants in the resorts of Montenegro, and mostly they are not bad. The prices are quite reasonable. Moreover, experts on holidays in Montenegro recommend choosing simple family taverns for food away from busy tourist spots. Unlike tourist restaurants, lunch in them will cost much less. In addition, this is where you can get acquainted with delicious traditional local cuisine. The owners of such establishments are usually not greedy and simply serve huge portions.

In beach establishments you can snack on delicious fish dishes, inexpensive local pizza (as tasty as in Italy itself), a huge portion (which is enough for two) cevapchichi with pita bread and potatoes, or the favorite fast food of local residents - burek (a thin dough pie with with different fillings).

When cooking on your own, it is more profitable to buy food in large supermarkets (more expensive in markets). It is best to buy meat and baked goods in “bakers” and in “mesar” butcher shops, which sell semi-finished products (here, at your request, they can fry meat sausages for you).

Montenegro has a lot of fruits, many of which grow on the veranda of every villa. Very tasty figs are especially cheap. It is better to buy fruit on the streets (preferably away from tourist routes).

If you find yourself in gastronomic paradise - in the village of Njegushi (near the town of Cetinje), enjoy to the full the especially delicious smoked pork hams (prust) and aromatic cheeses.

Visa

For short-term trips (if you do not plan to stay in the country for more than 30 days), a visa is not required. As, however, you will not need any other documents, such as a voucher, hotel reservation, invitations. You just need to buy a ticket and go on vacation.

The only thing is that the passport must be valid from the date of expected departure from Montenegro for at least another 3 months.

For visa-free entry, you need to register and obtain temporary registration within 24 hours after arrival (this service is paid). This responsibility is usually carried out by the owners of the villas or managers of the hotels where you will be staying, but you can also do it yourself.

A visa will be required if you decide to vacation for more than 30 days. In this case, to complete it, you will have to collect a standard package of documents confirming your solvency and availability of a place to stay overnight.

No language barrier

In Montenegro, many people understand Russian well and even speak it. You can completely do without translators. Communication is also facilitated by the fact that many words of the Montenegrin language are consonant with Russian and are quite understandable to Russian-speaking tourists.

Montenegrins are friendly people who treat Russian tourists well. As for children, many note that local residents treat them with special care.

The capital of Montenegro is the young Podgorica under construction. This is the largest city on the peninsula, located in the interior of the country, with a unique local atmosphere, an amazing combination of old and new, and a unique culture.

By the way, here you can see interesting monuments to Alexander Pushkin and his wife Natalya Goncharova and Vladimir Vysotsky.

Podgorica has one of two international airports (12 kilometers from the city). Flights from Moscow fly here regularly. For those who go on vacation, it is preferable to fly to Tivat airport. Its convenient location on the coast allows you to quickly get to all resorts.

When to go to Montenegro with children?

The climate on the Adriatic coast is mainly Mediterranean, which means it is quite comfortable for relaxation. Summer is long, dry and hot (up to +30-32°C) with big amount sunny days. In the central part of Montenegro, it is a little cooler due to the mountains.

If we focus on average indicators: on the coast the air warms up to +27°С and a little more, the water – up to +27°С (especially on southern resorts Montenegro). Sometimes the water temperature drops due to cold currents, which makes swimming not entirely comfortable. And you need to wait until it warms up again.

The sea in Montenegro has an unusual azure blue color, transparent (visibility from 40 to 60 meters) and very clean. This phenomenon is explained by the presence of large quantities of dissolved salts and minerals in it.

You can swim from mid-May to October (in some parts of the country swimming season opens a little earlier and ends a little later). The water in the Bay of Kotor is a little warmer than on the coast (by the way, the city of Kotor is the hottest in Montenegro).

The best time for a beach holiday is mid and late summer with hot and sunny days. The water at this time in the sea becomes as comfortable as possible.

However, you should not count on silence on the beaches and their cleanliness during the peak season. At this time, little Montenegro is crowded with vacationers. Prices are rising for everything: hotels, car rentals, excursions.

If you have the opportunity and don’t want to crowd on crowded beaches and fry under the sun, you can consider more comfortable months for traveling with small children: June or September.

The air in June already warms up to +25°C in Budva, to +28°C in Podgorica, to +26°C in Tivat, and the sea to +21-23°C. The bulk of vacationers are still just getting ready, planning a vacation for July. This means there are much fewer problems with finding housing. You can go on an excursion to any place without any fuss.

September, with perfectly warmed water and not too scorching sun, with a noticeably decreased number of tourists, with prices creeping down, is another comfortable month for family trips. At this time, the fruit season begins in Montenegro - mangoes, blueberries, blackberries, figs, grapes, kiwis, pomegranates, persimmons and tangerines, watermelons and melons ripen and are sold in abundance in the markets.

May and October, although considered the months of the holiday season, are not entirely suitable for holidays with children. If only because swimming in the sea is either still or already cold due to the cool temperature.

Where to stay with children: in a hotel or in an apartment?

Hotel service in Montenegro began to actively develop just a few years ago (this was preceded by a long period of stagnation). And, of course, it cannot be compared with, say, Turkish or Egyptian. Few places have implemented an all-inclusive system. And even where it is provided by the hotel, it is sometimes not fully operational. The basic concept of meals is half board, sometimes “breakfast only”.

Conditionally all hotel product can be divided into 3 types: expensive good hotels, city non-brand hotels, private sector. The most luxury hotels are in Budva, Sveti Stefan, and Kotor. But the most popular hotels are traditionally “three ruble” hotels.

pros

Nature
I think many have heard a lot about the natural beauty of the Balkan Peninsula. I also note that Montenegro, as the name suggests, is primarily a mountainous country. Most of all, the cluster of mountains is located closer to the sea; Montenegrins have located their cities and villages on the patches between them. A tourist-researcher from Russia may be interested in the features of the local nature, local architecture (with an Italian twist) and in general how the Montenegrins built quite suitable for living settlements in such conditions.
For example, a child will probably remember for a long time a boat ride on Lake Skadar, which is located in the mountains surrounded by an amazing and vibrant world of animals and plants.

Attractions near the beaches
Montenegro offers a lot of interesting and educational entertainment for children. Tourists who come on vacation to Montenegro with children will note the convenient fact that in almost every resort town along the beaches, in addition to cafes, there are various kinds of attractions (carousels, shooting galleries, slot machines) for young children.
This country has many attractions and fascinating stories and legends associated with them, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of little inquisitive travelers.

Language
The language of the local residents is similar to Russian. Perhaps the language will be unfamiliar to the ear at first, but the inscriptions on store signs and the texts of advertisements will definitely not be in Chinese writing. In addition, Montenegrins take into account the increased percentage of Russians among the total number of tourists, therefore, most of the service personnel speak Russian, and in cafes and restaurants there is a translation of the menu into our language.
It may be useful to know that in Montenegro, 1% of citizens come from our country. The largest diaspora lives in the city of Budva. There are Russian-language schools where they teach the language and history of both Montenegro and Russia.

Friendliness of the locals
Like most of their neighbors, Montenegrins have a calm character and love comfort. This is confirmed by one of the lowest crime rates in the world recorded in this state.
It is also worth noting the high level of religious tolerance in the country - Catholics and Muslims also live peacefully in predominantly Orthodox Montenegro.

Most hotels offer discounted rates for families with children, and in some cases children stay free. Some hotels have wellness and sport complexes, where highly qualified specialists conduct preventive and therapeutic programs to strengthen the immune system in children.

Cuisine of Montenegro
A great addition to children's holidays There will be a complete and balanced diet in the form of juicy fruits and vegetables grown in luxurious gardens and vegetable gardens in Montenegro, rich in vitamins, fiber and other beneficial substances so necessary for a growing body. The abundance of delicious dishes prepared from local seafood, meat and vegetables is admirable.
The choice of dishes in the country, in principle, is no different from the choice in any other European country, so you will not experience a culture shock in this regard. Also, a good feature is the generous portion sizes, so you can eat to your heart's content.

Delicious fruits and vegetables can be bought at the market, vegetable stalls or shops. “RODA Market” - this is what grocery store signs look like.

In Montenegro, tourists with children are very welcome, and many hotels and inns, equipped with all kinds of playgrounds, swimming pools and other amenities for a fun time, offer a children's menu, entertainment programs for children and nanny services to help parents. In most cases, in restaurants, if you come with an infant, you will be offered a special chair.

However, it is worth warning Russian tourists from one danger - local residents highly praise Serbian salad, waiters in cafes can also offer it. You shouldn't take it if you don't like it spicy - one of the ingredients in the salad is a very hot type of pepper.
It's also worth noting another case Italian influence on Montenegro - pasta and pizza are offered in almost any public catering establishment in the country.

Montenegro is famous for its delicious honey, the benefits of which are well known. You can buy it in a store or from local residents in special houses, which will be extremely pleasant to do, since Montenegrins are quite friendly and open people, communicating with them is a pleasure!

Small towns
Can have a calming effect on a traveler's absence tall buildings(at least in resort towns) and the small size of the cities themselves. One of largest centers tourism in Montenegro - Budva - you can get around on foot during the first evening of your stay.

Minuses

Weather in summer. In terms of the heat of Montenegro up to tropical countries, of course, it’s far away, but it’s worth stocking up on sunscreen. The peak temperature increase in the country is observed in mid-July – 30-35 °C. Thus, the most favorable months Holiday destinations are June, August and early September.

Prices on the beach. As often happens at resorts, in Montenegro local residents are trying to profit from tourists’ ignorance of local prices. The closer you are to the beach, the higher the prices for everything: food in cafes, clothes, books, etc. We advise thrifty tourists to refrain from shopping in beach shops and purchase goods in stores in the city center: prices there are more reasonable.

Garbage on the streets. Unfortunately, it seems that order is not a characteristic characteristic of Montenegrins. In addition to garbage on the streets, graffiti painted by local teenagers and dilapidated bus stops can be seen everywhere (the latter, however, only in small resort villages, in major cities bus stops are ok)

Should you choose Montenegro for a holiday with children?

Yes, definitely. Montenegro loves children and their parents. There are magnificent resorts here with conditions that allow you to relax even with babies.
Therefore, first you should decide which place is preferable for your baby - a party place, with amusement and amusement parks, or, conversely, quiet and calm, far from the noise and bustle. It is advisable, when choosing a place, to take into account not only the needs, but also the age of the child. See other articles on the site about this - descriptions of resorts in Montenegro.
