Especially among the attractions of Montenegro, the Millennium Bridge stands out, which connects the two banks of the local Moraca River. And here architectural ensemble National Theater of Montenegro is able to impress any tourist. The mausoleum of Petr Njegos, the famous poet and philosopher, may be interesting for travelers. The city, which arose more than two and a half thousand years ago on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, has retained to this day the medieval charm of its narrow streets, the majestic architecture of ancient churches and the powerful fortress wall that encircles its center. Old Budva is completely built up with snow-white ancient houses with red tiled roofs.
A stone mausoleum with a golden roof and two statues of Montenegrins appeared on Mount Lovcen in the 60-70s of the 20th century. It was built on the site of the chapel contrary to the will of its “owner” - the last spiritual ruler of the country, Peter II Petrovich-Njegos. The observation deck located behind the mausoleum offers a magnificent view of Montenegro.
Catholic Cathedral Kotor was discovered in 1166. The classic Romanesque features of the building were diluted with Baroque elements after the devastating earthquake of 1667. In the cathedral lie the relics of St. Tryphon and the Kotor townsman A. Saracenis, who bought them from Venetian merchants in the 9th century.
Located near the town of Herceg Novi, the water acquires an incredibly blue color in the first half of the day. The twenty-five meter height of the grotto allows you to swim into it on a boat through one of two entrances. Today tourists swim freely in the waters of the Blue Cave, where pirates once hid their treasures.
Belonging to two-thirds of Montenegro and one-third of Albania, Lake Skadar has the status of a national park. Twenty-six species of birds nest on its banks - gulls, herons, pelicans and others. The Serbian Orthodox monastery, founded in the 17th century at the foot of the Ostrog ridge, is still active. Twelve monks live in it, and the relics of the wonderworker Vasily of Ostrog are buried. After the earthquake of the 17th century, they decided not to restore the ancient monastery. Instead, they built one church, within the walls of which today paintings by the famous Kotor artist L.M. are kept. Dobrichevich.
11. Crno Jezero (Black Lake)
Located on Mount Dumitor, the glacial Black Lake consists of two small reservoirs - Big and Small, connected by a narrow strait. The shores of Crno Jezero are covered with dense coniferous forests, the emerald reflection of which gives the water a unique dark hue. A walking path winds along the lake.
The Mediterranean fjord, reaching a length of twenty-eight kilometers, has long served as a refuge for ships waiting out storms. Today on its banks stand ancient cities and villages decorated with medieval Orthodox and Catholic churches, towers, fortresses - Kotor, Perast, Risan and others.
The medieval defensive fortification of Budva is an architectural complex of the ruins of the Church of St. Mary, a square, gates, buildings of the former barracks and fortress walls. The local City Theater gives performances on the Ciutadella Square. There is a restaurant in the east tower. There is also a museum on the territory of the ancient fortress with a rich collection of books, pottery and coins.
The deepest European canyon is located between the mountains of Durmitor and Sinyaevina and Zlatni Bor and Ljubišnja. Being an integral part of the Durmitor National Park, it attracts the attention of all nature lovers. Black relict pines, one hundred and thirty species of birds, wild goats, wild boars, wolves and bears feel at home in the Tara River canyon.
Built in the first half of the 20th century, the arched concrete bridge over the Tara River was considered the highest bridge in Europe at the time of completion. Consisting of five arches and having a length of three hundred sixty-five meters, it runs along deep canyon, overgrown with lush green vegetation. In the area of the bridge there is a campsite with a parking lot, a shop and a hostel.
The historical center of Kotor is easy to distinguish from the modern part of the city - it is securely hidden behind the medieval fortress walls. The picturesque narrow streets of the Old Town are made up of buildings built in Romanesque and Byzantine styles. Religious attractions are represented by the Cathedral of St. Tryphon and the churches of St. Luke, St. Anna, St. Mary.
The Durmitor National Park, created in 1952, includes the eponymous mountain range, the canyons of three rivers - Tara, Draga and Sushitsa and the upper region of the Komaritsa plateau. Eighteen glacial lakes, relict pine and fir-spruce forests, more than seven hundred springs, a huge number of medicinal herbs, birds, fish and animals make up the true natural wealth of Montenegro.
Situated in the southwest of Montenegro, the Lovcen National Park boasts not only a unique mountain complex located in both a sea and mountain climate, but also the ancestral village of the local royal Petrovich dynasty - Njegushi. On Lovcen there is a mausoleum of one of the representatives of an ancient family. The mountain slopes are covered with thousands of plant species.
Located in the resort village of the same name, four kilometers from Budva, the two-kilometer sand and pebble beach is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay - paid umbrellas and sun loungers, children's playgrounds and attractions, cafes and restaurants for adults. Founded in 1252, in the valley of the Moraca River, the Serbian Orthodox monastery is an architectural complex of a cathedral dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a tiny church of St. Nicholas and several cell buildings. If you conduct a survey among those tourists who have visited Montenegro, most of them will call the Bay of Kotor the most beautiful place in this country. The southernmost fjord in Europe truly amazes with its beauty, especially when you look at it from the shores of the cities of Kotor or Perast. We also recommend taking a boat ride, as the boat also offers beautiful views of the mighty mountains surrounding the bay. But still the most best view You will get to the Bay of Kotor from the observation deck near the top of the mountain located south of the bay. A visit to this observation deck is included in the program of some excursions.
We advise you to spend an evening in the city of Kotor if possible. IN dark time 24 hours the Bay of Kotor looks simply magical, as the towns and villages on its coast create a necklace of lights around the bay.
Durmitor National Park
Although the drive from any seaside resort to this park is time consuming, it is worth it. Durmitor National Park amazes with the abundance of landscapes. The mountain peaks and lakes with crystal clear and cool water are especially beautiful here.
Any normal travel agency in Montenegro sells excursions to Durmitor National Park, but in order to fully enjoy this place, it is advisable to stay here for several days. Independent travelers usually stay in small guest houses, which are occasionally found in and around this national park.
Tara River Canyon
The most beautiful places in Montenegro simply cannot fail to include the second deepest canyon in the world. The Tara River Canyon amazes not only with its depth (up to 1300 meters), but with its unusual beautiful view.
