The port of Qingdao welcomes the Diamond Princess liner. Qingdao Port is the largest international trade center Accommodation in Qingdao

There are many different sights in China, but the port of Qingdao represents its beauty and power. The port is located on the shores of the Yellow Sea, in the south of the Shandong Peninsula. It is a famous ice-free deep-sea port and is considered a center for shipping and international trade. During its existence, it has established cooperation in 130 countries with more than 450 ports.

It should be noted that containers with iron ore, oil, coal and grain regularly pass through the port of Qingdao. This is very convenient, since the port is equipped with the largest grain and oil storage facilities in the country, and there are also first-class coal terminals on the port territory.

The port's infrastructure is at the highest level, and all facilities are made with the latest technology, which is why it is on the list of the five main ports in China. It is the connecting component between the continental part of the country and the whole world.

Components of Qingdao Port and their features

The Port of Qingdao consists of three major divisions, namely:

  • oil port;
  • new port;
  • old port.

Surface ships and submarines are also based on the port territory. From the sea, Qingdao port is surrounded by three dams with a total length of more than 1 km. The width of the entrance to the port is 260 m, the depth is 12 m, which makes it possible for ships with a carrying capacity of up to 30 thousand tons to enter the port.

Features and advantages of Qingdao Port

The presence of a port of this level has an excellent effect on the development of the city itself from a financing point of view; the thing is that the multi-million dollar turnover of profits has an incredibly positive effect on many aspects. Import and export of goods makes it possible to cooperate with many global companies; suppliers are always interested in the availability and mobility of receiving and sending goods. Let's not forget that thanks to this, many people get permanent jobs and good wages.

Customers always choose reliability, so qualified Qingdao Port employees provide them with the necessary assistance, and the level of service is facilitated by a complex consisting of highly qualified services and equipment. It is not for nothing that the port administration invests money in warehouses and storage facilities for many types of cargo, carrying out container transportation that is protected from damage and the negative influence of the environment.

The well-established operation of the port of Qingdao (China) brings benefit and development to the entire city; financial investments of this level are welcomed both among the local population and among tourists who visit the city throughout the year, admiring its sights and the port itself with its majestic buildings.

Being a logistics center connecting many countries and providing high-quality exchange of goods at any level, enhances the status of the port of Qingdao, strengthening its prestige.

It should be noted that the port systematically takes part in competitions at various levels; naturally, only the fact of participation in them adds prestige to the port. But its leaders do not cease to improve the activities of their field, and in 2001, Qingdao port became the winner of the National Quality Award among all state-level enterprises operating in the service sector. To this day, the port of Qingdao is considered the fastest growing logistics center in northern China.

A robotic port has appeared in China.
The large Chinese port of Qingdao is completely deserted. No, it works, receives and unloads huge ocean-going container ships. But there is almost no chance of finding a human being on the territory of the terminals. Continuously operating cranes do not have crane operators. And there is not even a place for them. Strange trucks with no cabs at all scurry around the area. There is also nowhere for a person to sit in them. This is how the world’s largest deep-sea cargo port operates, operating without human intervention. Loading and unloading of containers takes place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without weekends, smoke breaks or other breaks. All processes are controlled not by evil spirits, but by artificial intelligence.

Giant cranes haul standard twenty-foot containers from ocean-going ships onto strange flat platforms on wheels. A powerful battery and electric motors are hidden inside this “truck”. Therefore, you will not hear the noise of the engines, only the hum, as if a trolleybus is moving. 100% of the surface of the cargo platform is occupied by the “body”, a flat surface on which the sea container is placed. The cabin, steering wheel, and gear shift lever are not visible; in principle, there is no space for the driver.

Of the familiar signs of a vehicle, this electric truck has only headlights, side lights, and turn signals. And only because people occasionally move around the port and ordinary cars drive, they somehow need to be warned where the four-wheeled robot is heading. And the moving cargo platforms have complete mutual understanding among themselves. After all, they are controlled by a single “brain of the port” and even without it they automatically obey the general rules of movement.

NEG.BY information: Qingdao is a city in the Chinese province of Shandong on the shores of the Yellow Sea. By Chinese standards, this is a large regional center. About the same as Baranovichi or Borisov for Belarus, Klaipeda for Lithuania, Ventspils for Latvia. Population - 6.2 million people, with suburbs - 9 million. Qingdao is the largest center for the production of household appliances and electronics (here are the headquarters and factories of Haier and Hisense), helicopters and cars, ships and power equipment. There are also large breweries and shoe factories, a special economic zone with a focus on biotechnology and other advanced industries. The economic output of Qingdao and its suburbs is 150.7 billion USD. For comparison, the GDP of Belarus is 47.4 billion USD.

Why were crane operators, drivers, their foremen, dispatchers, timekeepers and other personnel laid off in overpopulated China? Save on wages. Salaries in the coastal cities of China often exceed 800-1000 USD per month and continue to grow. Myths about cheap Chinese labor here have long become a thing of the past.

However, not everyone has been fired yet and only 70% of the wage fund has been saved. It was the highly paid staff that remained. If previously the unloading team of one ocean-going container ship consisted of 60 people, now only 9 are engaged in this task, and these are not ordinary hard workers, but qualified engineering personnel.

All of them are concentrated in a separate room with a sign “Office of Exceptional Situations” on the door. This name contains the essence of their work: a person intervenes only in the event of an emergency or breakdown. Under normal circumstances, people only monitor the movement of containers on dozens of monitors with video footage or the interface of special port programs. In fact, this is reinsurance - everything works great without a person. Electric trucks even monitor themselves when their battery charge is dangerously low and go to recharge.

Smart equipment creates emergencies much less frequently than human crane operators and drivers. Electric trucks never rush, never get tired, and unquestioningly follow traffic rules. They navigate in space using electromagnetic sensors hidden underground, but they also see other road users. And 4 laser rangefinders (1 for each corner of the container) are much more accurate and faster than the most experienced crane operator.

The second reason to build automated ports is that they handle more cargo and prevent ships from being idle. With the same number of berths and cranes, terminal operating time and the number of accepted and shipped containers increase by at least 30%. Container ships cost less at berths, pay less for parking, and manage to transport more cargo in the same time. Logistics companies are delighted!

The standard construction period for such a port is 10 years. But in Qingdao they managed it in 3 years. The next robot port will soon be put into operation in Shanghai. And Qingdao’s deserted cargo terminals are also planned to be greatly expanded. If now there are 2 berths and a terminal for 1.5 million containers, then in the near future there will be 6 berths, and they will accept 5.2 million containers. Even the current capacity of Qingdao is many times greater than our country’s entire need for container transportation. And after expansion, it will become more powerful than the container terminals of all the Baltic ports of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland combined.

The liner DIAMOND PRINCESS had been in the port for a long time; most likely, we sailed to Qingdao in the morning, when everyone was still asleep. There were already a bunch of buses waiting at the pier, all in a hurry to take tourists to the city center.

It was warm outside, but just in case, my husband took a windbreaker for a walk.

We left the port and moved to the center. The city is quite large, there are a lot of high-rise buildings, and we also passed several areas that were facing demolition, construction was underway on a road interchange, and on several levels, it looked very unusual.

We got to the center quickly, and all the passengers quickly moved towards the exit. When all the passengers disembarked, we were already met by several Chinese volunteers who explained where everything was and how to get there, and also handed us maps of the city with the route to the port already indicated, just in case someone got lost.

We walked to the embankment, stopping at various shops along the way. What makes China different from other countries is that each city is decorated with various sculptures, monuments, and unusual architectural structures.

It seemed like a long walk to the embankment, and we stopped at a Chinese McDonald's. We decided to compare it with the Busan hamburger shop. Since no one here spoke either Russian or English, we also had to choose a dish by pointing our finger. We ordered the same thing as in Korea, at least that’s what it looked like, but when we tried what we ordered, our eyes nearly popped out of our heads. The burger turned out to be so spicy that we simply couldn’t eat it. Rather, having washed down all the spice with a milkshake and gorged on ice cream, we didn’t risk ordering anything else and moved on.

We walked and admired the beauty of the city, because all Chinese cities are slightly different from each other. Qingdao has its own peculiarity. Qingdao consists of two parts: western and eastern. The western district of the city is an old district, it is located on the seashore, and the scenery here is wonderful: a white beach, a dazzling blue sea, green trees, red roofs of ancient houses. There is a park named after Lu Xun, Zhanshansi Temple, a Catholic Church, a Christian Church, a Maritime Museum, an aquarium, and a Naval Museum. Tourists can not only visit these ancient cultural monuments, but after interesting excursions go swimming and sunbathing. The eastern district of the city is a new area where the buildings are already modern.

Before visiting the city, we compiled a map of Qingdao with descriptions of attractions in Russian and Chinese. Names in English and especially Russian do not help in China, because, for example, it is easier for a taxi driver to show the name in Chinese and he will immediately understand where to go. So, our map of Qingdao attractions:

The symbol of the city is (Zhan Bridge) - which is located at its southern tip in Qingdao Bay. Its length is 440 m and its width is 10 m. On the bridge there is an octagonal gazebo with curved cornices, from which the sea with huge waves and flying seagulls can be seen far around.

North of the bridge, on the seashore, there is a park Zhanqiao(Zhanqiao Park), where you can relax among picturesque flowers and cypress trees.

Zhanshan Temple(Zhanshan Temple) the oldest Buddhist temple in Qingdao (temple on the map). It is an impressive complex of structures including a stupa and a bell tower. In the main hall of the temple sits a large statue of Shakyamuni Buddha surrounded by four smaller statues. Nowadays, the Zhanshan Temple is active.

Qingdao Beer Factory, which was built by the Germans at the beginning of the last century and located in the industrial part of the city. Beer produced in Qingdao is valued both in China and abroad, and we really liked it too.

Qingdao International Beer Festival is a world festival that attracts beer lovers from all over the world. At the festival, in addition to beer of all sorts and brands, there is a lot of food and snacks. Many musical groups fly to the festival. The beer festival begins in the city of beer with a ceremony and runs for two weeks starting from the second weekend in August.

On the seashore, between two beaches, is located Lu Xun Park(Luxun Park), modeled after the more famous Lu Xun Park in Shanghai. On its territory there is a Maritime Museum with an aquarium.

In addition, private houses from the colonial era and Lutheran churches have been preserved in different parts of the city, which give Qingdao a unique flavor.

40 km from Qingdao rises Mount Laoshan, which is considered sacred among followers of Taoism. On the slopes of Laoshan there are ancient temples of this religion, which are a unique monument of classical Chinese culture.

And, of course, one cannot fail to name it among the attractions of Qingdao magnificent beaches with fine sand, which are washed by the gentle waves of the Yellow Sea.

On the embankment, whoever can entertains the people and thereby earns money. Here you can ride on boats or catamarans, right there a person jumps into the water from the bridge itself, doing several somersaults in the air, and then dives into the water. Since we were there at the beginning of October, no one was swimming anymore, since the season had long been closed and the water was already cold, despite the fact that the air was still warm.

Having frozen a little near the sea, we gradually moved in the opposite direction. We walked through an underground passage, where, as we understood, there was some kind of snack bar. When we passed by it, a terrifying smell of something unknown hit our noses, the smell of food mixed with the smell of waste, it was terrible, and the waste was immediately poured into the sewer. And this spoiled the impression of the city. It seemed to us that the city was a bit dirty. There is something to compare with, so from everything we came to this conclusion. For such a large tourist port city, everything could have been cultivated, but here in the center there is such horror.

We walked through Laoshan Park. We walked a completely different road, not the one we had come, but parallel to it and did not regret it at all. There were very beautiful buildings here, and in the park itself there were intricately shaped trees.

We approached the Catholic Church, where many wedding couples and just people were taking pictures. What struck me about the brides was that some of them were dressed in a gorgeous wedding dress with a train, with hair on their heads and makeup, but wearing ordinary white sneakers.

We boarded the ship and first of all went to dinner. When we went to the restaurant, a jazz band was playing on one of the decks, entertaining the remaining passengers or those who had already returned from a walk.

After dinner, we took more photographs of the sailing from Qingdao and the city itself, walked along the decks, and explored where everything was. As we found out, the sauna, which is located in the Lotus spa, is free, and additional services such as massage, etc. They do it for a reasonable fee, and there is also a beauty salon with reasonable prices.

We decided to while away the evening in the theater, where a concert program was being given. As always, the program was rich in musical numbers and the effect of spotlights, it looked spectacular.

Qingdao Port located on the southern coast of the Shandong Peninsula, occupies a central place among the ports of China between the Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Bay, washed by the waters of the Yellow Sea.

The bulk of Qingdao's port facilities are concentrated in the southern and southeastern parts of Jiaozhou Bay, which is connected to the Yellow Sea through a small strait. A little more than 3 km wide.

From the strait, Jiaozhou Bay increases sharply, having a length of more than 20 km at its maximum boundaries.

Jiaozhou Bay is fed by over 13 rivers flowing into it, the largest of which is Dagu, 179 km long.

The strait connecting Jiaozhou Bay with the Yellow Sea conventionally distinguishes two harbors in the port of Qingdao: the internal one, where the main infrastructure is concentrated, and the external one.

The conventional line separating the inner and outer harbor runs from Cape Tuandao Zui (36°02"39"" latitude, 120°16"55" longitude) to Cape Kuiong Shan (36°00"58" "latitude, 120°17"11” longitude). The Inner Harbor is located west of this line.

The port of Qingdao has three port complexes: Da Gang Port, Qianwan New Port and Huangdao (Oil) Terminal.

Approximately 46 miles from the port of Qingdao, the port of Dongjiakou is administratively subordinate to the port of Qingdao.

Port Dagan

Port Dagan is an old port located in the southeastern part of Jiaozhou Bay (western part of Qingdao).

The territory of the Dagan port complex includes the waters of three adjacent bays known as Da Gang, i.e. Big Bay, Zhong Gang, i.e. Middle Bay and Xiao Gang, i.e. Small Bay.

Zhong Gang and Xiao Gang bays are used only by coastal and local vessels. Zhong Gang Bay is also protected by a floating jetty on one side and the jetty that forms Terminal No. 6 at Dagang Port on the other side. The Chinese Navy is located in the northwestern part of the Dagang port complex.

The port of Dagan mainly handles the transshipment of steel, aluminum oxide, bauxite, fertilizers, metal ore, coal, and grain.

From the port of Dagang there is a railway to Jinan. Expressways connect Dagang Port with Jiqing, Yanqing, and Jiaozhou.

The port equipment includes container gantry cranes, cranes that ensure the movement of cargo in the port, forklifts, cargo packaging equipment, and tow trucks. There is a floating crane with a lifting capacity of 320 tons.

Dagan Port has one of the best grain reception and processing technologies in the world, which includes a modern ventilation system, the use of computer technology, the use of steel grain silos, as well as the provision of fumigation services, grain packaging in bags and loading onto vehicles.

Control over the unloading of grain from the vessel is carried out using a computer system, which can take into account the transshipment of up to 1200 tons of grain per hour.

The steel grain silo holds 100,000 tons of cargo.

The port of Qingdao has 16 automatic grain packaging machines, each processing 50 tons per hour.

Grain ranks fifth in Qingdao port's cargo handling after containers, coal, oil and mineral ores.

The Canwan Container Terminal operates 37 Super Post Panamax (maximum crane reach 24 rows of containers), over 100 RTG container gantry cranes (RTGs), and 44 forklifts of various lifting capacities.

In addition, the Canwan Container Terminal is equipped with the latest technology, two double 40-foot container cranes, which simultaneously lift two 40-foot containers or four 20-foot containers.

The lifting height of such cranes is 43 meters, and the maximum reach of the crane is 65 meters.

Canwan Container Terminal has connections with 450 ports around the world. A network of feeder vessels connects the port of Qingdao with the coast of Bohai Bay and the north of Jiangsu province.

The infrastructure of the port of Qingdao is organically included in the developed land transport network of China

The Qingdao-Jinan and Qingdao-Yantai highways provide connections to the Canwan container terminal within Shandong Province.

Through National Highway No. 308 Qingdao (Shandong Province) - Shijiazhuang (Hebei Province), 637 kilometers long, and China National Highway 010 Tongjiang (Heilongjiang Province) - Sanya (Hainan Province), the longest highway in China (5700 km), the Qianwan Container Terminal is connected with the interior of China.

The Jiaozhou - Huangdao Railway connects the Canwan Container Terminal with China's railway network.

Container trains depart from the port of Qingdao along five routes, moving at maximum speed, since there is no need to sort containers at intermediate stations.

In 2008, a bridge was built across the Jiaozhou Strait to connect the Canwan Container Terminal with the city of Qingdao, significantly reducing the distance.

Qingdao

Sights of the port city

Qingdao (English: Qingdao – ‘green island’) is a Chinese city on the shores of the Yellow Sea, 500 km from Beijing. The port city of Qingdao is one of the five main foreign trade ports of China, a large industrial, economic, resort and tourism center with a population of about 2.8 million, with skyscrapers of 54 floors.

"German trace" in Qingdao

History largely determines the features of modern Qingdao: China transferred it at the end of the 19th century as part of the colonial part of the country under the authority of Germany. The fishing village of Qingdao became a seaport of strategic importance. The presence of the Germans for more than 20 years influenced the appearance of the city. The construction of the streets with mansions with red tiled roofs, Gothic churches, and their mixing with Buddhist pagodas created an unusual look for the eastern part of the city.

The brewery, built by the Germans in 1903, made this town the beer capital of China, preserving German brewing traditions: Chinese-made beer is known under the Tsingtao brand.
