Where are the clean beaches in Batumi. Sea in Georgia. Shopping in Batumi: where to buy food, clothes, souvenirs

And where every day of vacation turns into a bright holiday.

The infrastructure of these beaches is quite well developed, which allows young couples, families with children, and more mature people to fully enjoy their holiday. Despite the fact that the beaches of the resort villages neighboring Batumi are quieter, and sometimes the water next to them is cleaner, we recommend choosing the city ones. This is explained by three points: convenient location (there is no road nearby), neatness (every day early in the morning they are cleaned, unlike some villages) and accessible beach amenities (you can rent an umbrella and a sun lounger, there are changing cabins, toilets, fresh water) shower).

Batumi beaches and sea

Judging by Google maps, there are 9 beaches in Batumi: Hookah, Children's, Iveria, Mandarin, the beach to the right of the pier, My Black Sea, Cocoa, Water Park and Boom Boom Beach. All of them pebble, as in general, throughout (sandy beaches can be found only in the villages of Ureki, Grigoleti and partly in Kobuleti). In fact, the city coastline is best divided into four groups, which really differ from each other: suburban, central, in the area of the new part of Batumi and wild. The listed beaches are popular among tourists to varying degrees due to their characteristics.

IN suburban part, located next to the Center for Music and Art (Opera House), the beach, although long, is quite narrow (the width does not exceed 20 meters); There is a highway nearby. Mostly locals and tourists who live in this part of Batumi swim here. There is no infrastructure as such on the beach, and if you get hungry, you can only eat in a local restaurant. You can get here by public transport or bicycle. Suitable minibus numbers: 21, 28, 29, 31 and buses: 2, 10, 13 and 17.

central part is the purest and most popular. It includes the beaches: Iveria, Mandarin, the beach to the right of the pier and My Black Sea. The seaside park, located nearby, harmoniously fits into the surrounding landscape. The beaches of the central part are well equipped - here you can rent a sun lounger and an umbrella from 2 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:

Along the shore there are good cafes, restaurants, small kiosks, nightclubs, shops, and an amusement park with attractions. It is in this part that you will be offered a lot: from parachute flights to “riding” on a flyboard.

In the first half of the day, before the mass arrival of tourists, the embankment looks clean and well-groomed. It is thoroughly cleaned every morning. Later you can see a different picture - pieces of paper and cigarette butts lying between the stones. And even despite this, Batumi beaches look much better than the beaches of Ureki or Chakvi.

A little about the sea

The Black Sea, which washes the coastal part, including the resort of Batumi, is quite clean and relatively warm. At least during the time that we were vacationing in Georgia, it did not seem to us as warm as, for example, the Adriatic Sea in Montenegro or the Black Sea in Bulgaria. The water was quite comfortable, but nothing more.

There is a fairly clean and uncrowded beach under the Batumi Botanical Garden.

The sea, especially pleasant in temperature and cleanliness, splashes off the coast of Batumi, where you can combine a visit to the kingdom of flora with pleasant water treatments on the shore a little lower than the park. Then returning to it will not be a problem, the main thing is to keep the ticket until you leave the garden.

The seabed off the coast of the resort is rocky. Like beaches, it consists of pebbles of different sizes and shapes. Depending on the selected section of the coast, the descent to the sea can be either smooth or abrupt, with a rapid increase in depth.

Reviews about beach holidays in Batumi

To be honest, we don’t like to relax on the beach during our entire vacation, so we try to visit many interesting places during this time. However, we remember splashing in the sea off the coast of Georgia for its unusual features:

  1. Not all people like to walk into the water over pebbles. Sometimes it is not only unpleasant, but also painful. Many locals noticed this minor tourist problem and found a solution: often along the shore you can find merchants selling special silicone slippers (similar to moccasins). They are especially relevant for children.
  2. The beaches of Batumi, as already mentioned in the article more than once, are pebbly. Therefore, lying on a thin sheet on them is not always a pleasure. Although, many people like this free relaxing massage. By the way, the sea pebbles on the shore quickly cool down, which means that on cloudy days lying on them is completely uncomfortable.
  3. Due to the pebble beaches, people rarely travel to Georgia with their own umbrellas. It is much easier to rent one on the spot, rather than bother with “burying” the umbrella in the stones yourself.
  4. The sea water off the coast is clean. Very rarely (most often during a storm) debris in the form of twigs and leaves is deposited into it. But no algae or any large waste (papers, plastic bags) are observed in the water.
  5. Even during the peak season, in August, Batumi beaches are more or less free. You can find a place on them and sit comfortably on the shore not next to a noisy neighbor.
  6. Prices for products that sellers carry along the shore are often the same as in shops, bakeries or kiosks in the city.

And frankly, it’s great to relax in Batumi. We really enjoyed the relaxed beach holiday on the city coast with moderate traffic of vendors between tourists. Although, in addition to the beaches, we recommend taking a closer look at Batumi. Believe me, among them there are many worthy of your attention and visit.

Photos from the beaches and embankment of Batumi

Although Batumi beaches cannot be called perfectly clean, they are often much nicer and more comfortable than many village beaches scattered nearby. To confirm what has been said, we are posting some photos from our beach holiday:

Children's Beach in Batumi is usually crowded. This is explained by its close location to many hotels and attractions of the city, including its proximity to the moving statue of love between Ali and Nino.

In the central part of the city embankment, vacationers are evenly “smeared” along the beach. Therefore, choosing a comfortable place for yourself will not be difficult.

An excellent alternative to a beach holiday on the Black Sea instead of the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea can be the coast of Georgia. A visa is not needed and often a holiday abroad turns out to be cheaper than in your home country. Now the authorities are investing huge amounts of money in the development of beach tourism in the country. It can be seen. The beaches are kept clean. All beaches are absolutely free. And most of them have very good infrastructure.

The only thing is that all the beaches are pebbly. Except for one, which is located some distance from the city. Below I will talk about the beaches of Batumi and its surroundings and how to get to them.

Batumi city beaches

The coastline in Batumi, where you can swim, stretches for 7 kilometers. Like the city’s attractions, the beach can also be divided into areas of Old and New Batumi.

The best city beach is considered to be the beach in the “Park of Miracles” area in Old Batumi. There is very clean water, a wide coastline, many cafes, restaurants, changing cabins, toilets, showers and even a first-aid post. You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas. There is also the largest selection of all kinds of entertainment: banana boat rides, boat rentals, etc. In the evening there are all sorts of parties on the beach.

The beaches in the New Batumi area also have developed infrastructure. But there are fewer people, fewer cafes, less entertainment. But there is a water park and a dolphinarium.

A bicycle path was made along the entire beach line on Primorsky Boulevard. Therefore, no matter where you live in Batumi, it is always convenient to move to a nearby beach. The road is located far from the sea, so cars do not disturb vacationers. The entrance to the sea is quite flat.

They often write about the Wild Beach near the airport. That this beach is good for lovers of solitude and tranquility. Now this information is not relevant.

Beaches, near Batumi

It would seem that the beach, as they say, is a beach in Africa: everywhere there is sea, pebbles, people, umbrellas, etc. But still, each beach has its own nuances. Often, tourists who come to relax in Batumi as a seaside resort entertain themselves by changing the beaches every day. Fortunately, they are all close to the city.

Sarpi

This is the most popular suburban beach. Popular because it is considered the purest. It is located on the border with Turkey. From here you can clearly see and hear the Turkish mosque. It has the most developed infrastructure of all suburban beaches. And also a local “trick” - a rock sticking out of the sea, from which everyone dives.

The village of Sarpi is 18 kilometers away. The most convenient way to get here is by minibus coming from the old bus station. There will be a sign on the windshield that says SARPI. The fare is 1.5 GEL. Or you can choose bus number 16. It's cheaper. A taxi will cost 25-30 GEL. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes.

Kobuleti

Now it is a rapidly developing resort, a huge amount of money is being invested in it. The beaches are distinguished by small pebbles.

Kobuleti is located 28 kilometers from Batumi. You can get there by minibus from the old bus station. The fare is 2 GEL. Travel time is approximately 40 minutes. The local train also goes here.

Gonio

Gonio beach is a quiet and pleasant place. There are significantly fewer people here, but also less infrastructure. Large pebbles. A plus is the opportunity to combine a beach holiday with a visit to the fortress.

Gonio is located 15 kilometers from Batumi. You can get there by minibus from the old bus station or from Tbilisi Square. You can also take a minibus that goes to Sarpi. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes. The fare is 1-1.5 GEL. City bus number 16 goes here.

Kvariati

The peculiarity of Kvariati beach is that the pebbles turn into sand. Excellent infrastructure, diving center and all this is cheaper than in Batumi. And Kvariati beach is surrounded by mountains. Sea and mountains... You can admire this view endlessly.

Kvariati is located 20 kilometers from Batumi. You can get here in the same way as you get to Gonio beach. Take bus 16 or minibuses from the old bus station towards Sarpi.

Tsikhisdziri

Tsikhisdziri beach is little known. You can't just approach him like that. In any case, you will have to walk 2 kilometers through the forest. The beach is small and surrounded by rocks. Above it, on the cliff, is a hotel. In general, a very picturesque place. A trip to this beach can be combined with a visit to the Petra Fortress.

Tsikhisdziri is located 26 kilometers from Batumi. You can get here by any minibus going towards Poti, Kobuleti, Ureki or. The journey will take about 25 minutes. The fare is 2 GEL.

There are two beaches in this area. You can go to one without entering the territory of the Botanical Garden. The second one is actually located on the territory of the Botanical Garden.

Local residents prefer to relax on the beaches of Cape Verde. The infrastructure is poorly developed. It's better to take everything you need with you. There is an old bridge on the beach, from which it is good to dive into the water. The beaches are surrounded by the Botanical Garden, which creates a special atmosphere and enhances the surrounding views.

Cape Verde Beach is located 13 kilometers from Batumi. You can get to it by minibus 31 or bus 15. The journey will take about 20 minutes. The fare is 0.6-1 GEL.

Makhinjauri

Quite an ambiguous beach. The advantages are cheap service, proximity to Batumi, and a lot of passing transport. The downside is that there is a railway nearby.

Makhinjauri beach is located 9 kilometers from Batumi. You can get to it by city buses 8, 10, 15, 17 or minibuses 21 and 31.

Beaches of the Guria region: Shekvitili, Magnetiti, Ureki

Although this is a different region, these beaches cannot be ignored. They are truly unique. Firstly, these are the only sandy beaches. Secondly, not just sand, but with black magnetic sand. These sands have healing properties, so people still come here to improve their health. All villages have well-developed infrastructure, including for children. The beaches are surrounded by pine groves.

The nearest village of Shekvitili is 48 kilometers from Batumi. Behind him is Magnetity. The last one, Ureki, is located 55 kilometers from Batumi. You can get to these beaches by minibus heading towards Poti, or. The drive is about an hour.

Last year, like many others, I went to Georgia, thoroughly enjoyed its hospitality and spent a couple of days relaxing at the main Georgian resort - the city of Batumi. Many Russians chose Batumi as their summer holiday destination last year, as an alternative to closed Turkey and the crowded and overpriced resorts of the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea. But is it good enough to go there on vacation?

Yes, Batumi is good, but, again, it depends on what you compare it with. Compared to our resorts, Batumi is an excellent and inexpensive alternative, but of course it is still a long way from Mediterranean resorts... So should you go to Batumi? Is it worth vacationing there, say, this summer of 2017? I cannot give a definite answer, because everyone has their own criteria. I can only voice my “FOR” and “AGAINST”, and let everyone decide for themselves!

I'll start with the good. Georgia itself is good, but Batumi as a resort was built quite recently and is made of very high quality. Saakashvili wanted to make it a European candy and spared no expense, so in some places it turned out very beautiful! Plus, this is our native “USSR”. Russians are loved here and welcomed with open arms and open wallets!

10 - FOR:

1. Batumi is close. The flight is short, there are many flights, prices are reasonable.
2. Prices. Batumi is quite affordable. Yes, the center here is of course very expensive, but a little further away you can find budget accommodation and inexpensive restaurants. At least it’s several times cheaper here than in Sochi) And at the same time, it’s no less civilized and beautiful.

3. Everything is original. 99% of people from the countries of the former USSR vacation here. Almost everyone speaks Russian. In general, it’s like being at home!
4. No visa needed!
5. Nature. Adjara is beautifully located - mountains on one side, sea on the other. Lots of greenery, beautiful places. Overall great!

6. Safety! Georgia is now one of the safest countries in terms of crime! Misha at one time brought order here, for which he must be given credit. Here you can safely walk day and night, no one will attack you, rob you or rape you. Of course, no one has canceled petty scammers, but in terms of global security, everything is great here!

7. Georgian hospitality! You will especially feel this if you stay in someone’s house or in a private mini-hotel!
8. Batumi is a beautiful city. It's still a little unfinished, of course, but the center looks great. It is pleasant to walk here both during the day and in the evening.

9. Embankment. Very cool embankment in Batumi. One of the best! Here you can just walk, run or ride a bike, there are plenty of cafes and all sorts of entertainment. In the evening, the whole party happens on the embankment. Overall, a great place!

10. This is Georgia! Batumi is a great way to relax by the sea and see the country!!! Georgia is a small country, and the distances here are quite short. There is nothing stopping you from going to Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Borjomi or to the mountains in my beloved Svaneti for a week, and then returning and relaxing at sea. Georgia is cool, there is a lot to see, but... in Batumi itself, all the sights can be seen in 1-2 days)

Now I’ll add a little tar to the Georgian jug of honey. The saddest thing about Batumi for me is the beach and the sea. And since this is a beach resort, this minus is quite significant. Plus, Batumi seemed a little boring to me, although... maybe I was just tired after a two-week trip around Georgia.

10 - AGAINST:

1. Dirty sea. After all, the Black Sea... Plus there is a port nearby. There may be garbage, oil products, and stinking foam... But then, depending on your luck, the right wind and current will blow - and everything will be clean)
2. Jellyfish!!! That's why I haven't loved the Black Sea since childhood - it's because of the jellyfish!!! They are always here in huge quantities. Yes, they are safe and not as biting and dangerous as the jellyfish of the Indian Ocean, but it’s still somehow unpleasant for me to swim, raking up these slippery waterfowl.
3. Beach. More precisely, pebbles. The entire coast of Batumi is a continuous pebble beach. Small and very painful pebbles. It is impossible to walk without shoes. Getting in and out of the sea is very painful! And there are practically no piers for comfortable entry anywhere. And this is annoying...

4. Deep. Quickly and immediately. This is great, of course, because it’s painful to walk on the prickly pebbles, but it still greatly narrows the circle of vacationers.
5. Not for children! Alas. Firstly, it’s deep, secondly, it’s pebbles, and thirdly... somehow the children’s infrastructure is not developed here. The casino is full, but there are almost no playgrounds anywhere. So the children have to play in the central square near the fountain.

6. Few hotels. In the center there are good and expensive ones, but small and inexpensive ones are a problem) Misha was counting on millionaires who come here to play in the casino, and not on ordinary people who need the sea and the beach... He has to rent housing, and this is not always convenient . Hotels seem to be starting to be built, but there are still very, very few of them.
7. Infrastructure recreation and entertainment is frankly rather weak. Especially when compared with the “Turkey” to which we are so accustomed))) But I think it’s a matter of time. Although, Georgians are so lazy... But there are a lot of Turks in Batumi, they will definitely do everything here if there is demand.

8. Short season. In May it is still cool here, in June the sea is invigorating, and by the end of September it’s all over... July-August - 2 months of the high swimming season. In principle, it’s normal, but I like to relax in spring and autumn, so Batumi “flies by” for me.
9. A bit boring. There are few excursions, there is not much to see around, at least within 1 day for a round trip. Active recreation is also rather weak, although the places are beautiful and everything can be done... I can’t imagine how bored I would be here if, say, I came for 2 weeks. Hotel-beach-sea-embankment-hotel is not my option, I need to go somewhere all the time and see something!
10. Feeling of completion.“We built, but... somehow we didn’t finish it.” Saakashvishili left, funding ran out, construction was frozen. Many objects are unfinished, houses in the city also require renovation and repair, the streets a little further from the center are in terrible condition. In general, we still need to work and work here... Will today's Georgians do this? I don’t know, but if they want to develop Batumi as a resort city, then they should!

In general, for me Batumi is a great place to end my trip to Georgia and relax on the coast for 2-3 days before flying home. I wouldn’t go here to purposefully relax here for 1-2 weeks, especially with a child. But who said that if I don’t like something, others shouldn’t like it either? Therefore, decide for yourself - to go or not to go, to relax or not to vacation in Batumi!!!

The tourist season officially began in Batumi in June. The city is unrecognizable. One day, the shore was suddenly filled with plastic sun loungers, and rescuers appeared in the booths.

Vacationers came from Poland, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Sellers walk along the beach. They sell rubber slippers, cherries, khachapuri, and inflatable rings.

The only tension is the gypsies. Really intrusive. Yesterday, even in a restaurant, a girl crawled under our table. She groped my legs and asked for money. In spring and autumn, gypsies were only in the center near, but now they are found throughout the boulevard.

On the street +24+27 , it feels like +30 when there is no wind. The sea is somewhere +22+23С.

Batumi in June

Batumi Beach

Sun lounger - 3 GEL ( 1.2$ )
Umbrella - 3 GEL
Changing cabin - 0.5 GEL

We had two girls visiting us. They were in Batumi for the first time, so they could evaluate the resort with fresh eyes. So, pebbles are annoying for those who don’t feel very confident in the sea. Those who swim well are not particularly bothered by pebbles.

The solution is to buy yourself rubber slippers on the first day. In special shoes, life will immediately sparkle with bright colors.

The shore was forced with sun loungers

The best beaches in Batumi, my conclusions

The beaches of Batumi are no different in appearance. There are large pebbles everywhere.

There is often information on the Internet that the cleanest sea in Batumi is in the area of the Alphabet Tower and sculpture Ali and Nino. I used to think so myself, even. It is a myth.

Yesterday we walked along the beach from Ali and Nino to the San Remo cafe and swam in several places.

Near Ali and Nino There are comfortable sun loungers and beds. Music plays. That's where the most people hang out. However, the rocks in the sea are huge and slippery. The proximity of the port has an effect. The entrance to the sea is inconvenient. The water, although clear, is still somehow sticky.

Beach coordinates: 41.656785, 41.641824

Near Ali and Nino the sun loungers are more comfortable
You can rent a bed

There are also a lot of people between the pier with a cafe and the dolphinarium, but the sea leaves a mixed feeling. It seems clean, but something is wrong.

Beach coordinates: 41.655821, 41.632628

The sea here seems to be ok, but not 5 points

We came to the conclusion that the best sea and water entrance in the area cafe Sanremo. There are fewer people here, and it’s nice to swim.

There were just a lot of screaming children this morning. But after 15-16.00 there are mostly young people on the beach.

A sun lounger costs 3 GEL, an umbrella also 3 GEL.

It’s also good that there are no jet skis and boats here yet, like in other countries.

Sea in Batumi

I have already noticed more than once that until 13.00-14.00 the sea in Batumi is clear and turquoise, and after lunch on some days a dark spot swims in from the south.

You can clearly see how the color of the water changes. An unpleasant odor appears. Either the sewage system is being drained into the sea, or something else.

A strange spot appears some days

Is the beach clean?

The boulevard and benches are washed with water. The shore is cleaned daily. Purely. But during the day the assholes come to the beach again, leaving behind bags, bottles and loaves of sausage.

In Georgia, it is not customary to drink alcohol on the street. Georgians drink in a cafe or at a party, but not on the beach. But the vacationers have a blast as best they can, and then throw away the cans or leave broken bottles behind. But this is rather an exception. A-ta-ta!

Beaches of Cape Verde

Our guests swam on the beaches of Batumi, Tsikhisdziri and Ureki. Yesterday we went to the botanical garden and swam. They said that it ended up being the best beach for them.

If you rent a house in, it is better to go to Cape Verde than to go to Batumi. There are few people, green hills right next to the shore, cafes are open in the summer.

Beach coordinates: 41.691459, 41.704459

On the Cape Verde beach, sun loungers cost 3 GEL, umbrellas cost 2 GEL
Cafe on the shore
For those who thirst for life :) Prices are affordable

Ureki Beach

It's great now. We were there the other day. The sea there is warmer than in Batumi. The sand is hot, it is impossible to stand (but it is comfortable to lie down). There are few people, the beach has been cleaned for the season, the water is clean.

There is almost no one in Ureki in June

What fruits are sold?

In June they sell strawberries, cherries of 4 varieties, tkemali, mushluma, and mulberries.

Peaches, apricots, and watermelons are not as juicy as in July-August, you need to wait.

is a republic located in southwest Georgia. The coastal strip of Adjara is a little more than 54 km, of which about 2 km are rocks and hard-to-reach places. The remaining 52 km are at your disposal. The beaches are all pebbly, which is actually good. And the massage is good, and you come out of the water clean. And the best news is that they are all owned by the municipality and are free!

Beaches of Batumi. Photo and description

The city has an almost endless beach. It stretches along from the port to the airport. And this is no less - more than 10 km. The width ranges from 30 to 50 meters. In some places there are showers and changing rooms, and you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Almost along its entire length it adjoins a forest belt. So, if you wish, you can always escape into the shade. There are very popular parts, and there are more modest ones, but quiet and almost deserted, where you can take a break from the bustle of the city, for which tourists call them Wild. The division of the city beach into districts is symbolic, but it will still be easier for you to navigate.

The most popular and well-appointed part is, of course, Central or Old Boulevard (41.656022, 41.633536).

There is a “hub” of all kinds of bars, bungalows, clubs, shops, children's attractions and playgrounds. It is located to the right and left of the modern central entrance to the boulevard (K. Gamsakhurdia Street (formerly Lenin), leading here from. The central entrance is adjacent to. There is also an information center for tourists, where you can find out any information you are interested in about Batumi and the surrounding area). The width of the beach here is from 30 to 40 m. You can rent sunbeds for 3-5 GEL each.

Tsikhisdziri beach

Tsikhisdziri (41.754975, 41.740707) tiny village.

It is located 22 km from Batumi, and it takes 30-40 minutes to get to the place. The village is located on the Tsikhisdiri Pass, at an altitude of 70-80 meters above sea level. Therefore the beach is very secluded. In recent years, it has become a favorite among those who like to live outdoors with the sound of the surf and in a tent. At the height of the season, a small tent city appears here. Rocks covered with vines approach from the side. Tsikhisdziri is a very picturesque place. You need to go down from the pass. Visible from below, standing on a ledge Castello Mare Hotel and Wellness Resort . It was in this place that the house of Ichthyander stood. Yes Yes! The same one from the 1961 film “Amphibian Man”. A small problem arises here, too, as with Chakvi. You will have to get there by regular minibuses going from Batumi to Kobuleti, Poti, Ozurgeti, Kutaisi and Tbilisi. They all drive past Tsikhisdziri, but don’t stop by. Therefore, you will get off at the highway and from there move towards the beach. Ask drivers to stop the minibus at the most convenient road. There are several paths and an old road leading down, which you will have to go down. You will have to walk about 1.5-2 km. Minibuses depart from the bus station in Boni and from Tbilisi Square. The fare per person is 1.00-1.5 GEL, and a taxi costs approximately 25 liters.
