Switzerland has a big advantage over other European countries - at the end of December and January there is almost always snow there (at least in the mountains). Real, shaggy, lying in large snowdrifts along the streets and houses.

If you want to catch the holiday itself, it is better to go to Switzerland for Christmas, since the New Year is practically not celebrated in this country. For noisy celebrations and festive fun worth choosing one of major cities – Christmas markets are held there, sweets and souvenirs are sold.

If it’s not critical for you to celebrate the New Year abroad, but you want to plunge into European Christmas culture or go to the sea and the beach, look for options with a return BEFORE or departure AFTER New Year’s Eve. Such options can cost several times less than a trip that includes New Year's Eve.
  3. Sales in Europe begin in January - if shopping is important to you, plan your New Year's holiday so as not to return to Russia at the very beginning of January.

Saint Petersburg

Why you should go: New Year in St. Petersburg is celebrated on a grand scale. You won't find such lights, fireworks and laser shows in the provinces. Nevsky Prospekt becomes pedestrian, New Year's fairs are open, and Palace Square lights up so brightly, as if another revolution has begun there.

How is the weather: on winter holidays There may be a light frost down to -10 ° C, or it may be near zero. In any case, it is better to insulate yourself to protect yourself from the winds from the Gulf of Finland.

Things to do: watch daily light shows on Dvortsovaya, relax on Nevsky and be amazed at the variety of lights, visit museums that offer discounts for children and walk around other iconic places St. Petersburg.

Moscow

Why you need to go: the country's main Christmas tree on Red Square, Christmas markets, colorful fireworks, large-scale celebrations - in Moscow you can have a great New Year with your family. Both adults and small children will be happy with the capital.

What's up with the weather: at the end of December - beginning of January in the capital it is quite comfortable: a little minus during the day, and a little colder at night. Sometimes there are thaws with rain.

How to have fun: First of all, go to Red Square and feel like you are in the center of national celebrations, while going skating at the skating rink and shopping at the fair. Folk festivities also take place in other places: Gorky Park, VDNKh, Poklonnaya Gora. Performances are staged for children Pushkin Square and Tsvetnoy Boulevard. What's up with the weather: Winters here are frosty, reaching −20 °C, but is this really an obstacle for those who want to get into a New Year's fairy tale?

Things to do: The country residence of the grandfather with a real, not glued-on, beard is located about 30 minutes from the city, on Sovetsky Prospekt. The house was built in a beautiful forest, there are also attractions here, and excursions through the world of Russian fairy tales are organized for children. The trails here are varied and suitable for skiers of different levels.
