General information and history

Yeysk is located in the north Krasnodar region, on the coast Sea of Azov, between the Yeisk Estuary and the Taganrog Bay, at the base of the Yeisk Spit. It is a seaport, a resort, the fifth most populous city in the region and the capital of the Yeisk region. The area of the city is 143 km².

In 1777-78, on the site of the future Yeisk there was a Khan’s town, for which the role of the residence and reserve capital of the Russian protege of the Crimean Khan Shagin-Girey was envisaged. Five years later, a manifesto on the annexation of Taman, Crimea and the Right Bank Kuban to the Russian Empire was recorded at its walls. In 1848, at the proposal of the ataman of the Black Sea Cossack army, Grigory Rasp, to build a port at the base of the Yeisk Spit, Yeisk was founded. During the Crimean War, the city was repeatedly shelled by the British stationed in the Azov Sea.

After its completion, every tenth building in Yeisk burned down. At the turn of the 20th century the city gained great importance in terms of international trade and cultural life of the South of Russia. In 1904, the port was reconstructed, and seven years later a military operation was carried out in Yeisk. Railway. In 1912, the city began to function as a resort, not only based on the sea, but also on therapeutic mud and hydrogen sulfide water. During the First World War the city lost its importance as an international port. The army was mainly supplied through it.

During the Civil War, the power of the Red and White armies changed six times in the city. Soviet power was finally established in Yeisk in the spring of 1920. In the 20-30s, in addition to the resort sector, industry also developed. A naval pilot school also began to function.

During the Second World War, Yeysk was occupied from August 1942 to February 1943. After the Victory, strategic buildings and infrastructure were restored. The number of holidaymakers began to increase from year to year. Enterprises focused on their recreation, as well as housing, were built. Due to the economic crisis caused by perestroika, Yeysk ceased to be a mass resort.

The revival of the city began in 1996, and it again began to be considered a promising recreational place.

Location and how to get there

The city is located in the northwestern part of the Krasnodar Territory on Yeisk Spit, which on one side is washed by the Sea of Azov (Taganrog Bay), and on the other by the Yeisk Estuary. The local estuary is the largest in the North Caucasus. The spit, together with the nearby island of the same name, resembles an atoll, which adds a kind of exoticism to the city.

You can get to the resort area in various ways. There is a direct railway connection, but there is only one train to the city - from Moscow. Therefore, it is easier to buy a ticket to Starominskaya station and from there move to Yeysk by train or shuttle bus. There is no air connection with the city. You'll have to fly to Rostov-on-Don or Krasnodar, and from there take a commuter route by land transport. By car you can get to Yeysk along the M4-Don federal highway.

Story

Yeysk was founded in 1864 by decree of Nicholas I. It became one of the main trading ports in Azov, contributing to the development of the region. The city today continues to be not only a resort area, but one of the significant municipalities of Kuban. In particular, it is here that one of the largest aviation units of the Russian Air Force is located. The population of Yeysk is about 90,000 people, and during the holiday season the number of vacationers increases it approximately three times.

Almost the entire western side of the city is reserved for the seaport and airfield, so it is closed to the public. The entire recreation infrastructure in Yeysk is concentrated on the spit and on the estuary side. There are seven districts in the city that are actively being developed. The main increase is achieved through the development coastline Yeisk estuary. The village of Shirochanka was recently included in the resort area, where there is also active development of the hotel sector.

Things to do

In addition to the beach and recreational activities, holidays in Yeysk can be diversified by windsurfing and sailing. Thanks to the constant winds of the Taganrog Bay, these sports have received significant development in the region. The city even hosts a festival of cruising yachts, which has no analogues in Russia. Even if you are not a professional, you can not only enjoy watching others skate, but also try your hand at it. There are many surfing centers on the city's beaches.

For those who prefer a more relaxing holiday, you can suggest wandering through the historical places of the Merchant City or visiting the local museum, which is considered one of the oldest in Kuban. It will also be interesting to visit various salt lakes, of which there are plenty in the vicinity of the city.

Climate

Yeysk is located in the temperate continental zone, which is characterized by hot summers and fairly mild winters. Swimming season opens already in mid-May, when the water warms up to 18 degrees, and lasts until the end of September. The average air temperature in the hottest months is 26-27 degrees, and the water temperature is about 22. Due to the low level of humidity, even at the peak of the heat, the air will be quite fresh. The western part of the spit is windier, and on the estuary side it is mostly calm. So your holiday in Yeysk will be accompanied by quite comfortable weather conditions.

Beaches

All beaches in Yeisk are sandy and shell-like. The bottom topography is mostly flat and the sea is shallow. The exception is Youth Beach, located at the very tip of the spit. Due to underwater currents from the estuary, the bottom is washed out, and the depth in this place is considered the greatest compared to other beaches in the city. During the season the beaches are quite full. Especially City and Children's, located on the spit. Kamenka Beach, located further south along the coast of Taganrog Bay, smoothly transitions from sandy to pebble. There are many sandbanks to be found there during low tide. There are also a number of beaches near residential areas, but they are much smaller than those on the spit and near the port.

Treatment

Holidays in Yeysk can be combined with health treatments. 40 km from the city center is Khanskoye Lake, where the largest sources of hydrogen sulfide and iodine-bromine mineral waters and medicinal mud in the region are concentrated. There is also a specialized sanatorium “Eysk” in the city, where treatment is carried out using all these microelements. Local mud and mineral water help remove radionuclides and heavy metal salts, have an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, and also help stabilize motor functions.

Latest reviews about holidays in Yeysk

We vacationed in 2018 with my husband and daughter. To say “liked it” is an understatement! I’m delighted - everything is clean, the hosts are nice, they fried pelengas on the grill - just a miracle! The child is outdoors all day! I didn't want to leave. My dream is to get to them in 2019!

Good afternoon, today I want to write a review about my vacation in Yeisk. I’ll say right away that we visit Yeysk every year and only stay at the “Point of Dawn”. What attracts me and my whole family there? I can list:
First of all, Yeysk is being renovated and becoming a resort with a developed entertainment infrastructure. Cozy city. When we enter it, we immediately feel a sense of the south, goodness and a positive attitude for the upcoming holiday. The city is buried in roses and other flowers. I always bring a lot of photographs with me, I want to capture all this beauty as a memory.
From Moscow we travel 17 hours to Yeysk by car, so the children do not have time to get very tired and exhausted, you will agree that this is not an unimportant factor. And we always go back loaded with various goodies.
Why “Point of Dawn” - because this place is charged with positive energy and comfort that the hotel owners create. Every year we celebrate improvements for the benefit of vacationers, the hotel develops and becomes even better. Over the several years that we have been visiting Point of Dawn, we have lived in both sea view rooms and economy rooms. I’ll say right away that I felt comfortable both there and there. Each room has air conditioning, a refrigerator and a TV. The furniture is new. The hotel is very clean. Each room has its own toilet and shower - this is very convenient. Two kitchens with kitchen utensils, no need to carry anything with you. But the most pleasant and comfortable thing is in the courtyard. A large recreation area, completely entwined with grapes and protecting vacationers from the sun. The presence of a barbecue, a sofa, tables and music allows you to spend time comfortably. It’s cool when you sit, day or evening, with a glass of wine, relax, and grapes hang in clusters from above, roses smell fragrant. There is a huge swimming pool in the yard, in which not only children but also adults love to splash. Just a delight! There is also a children's playground. Very comfortably. You know, when you’ve worked hard for a whole year, there are times when you don’t want to go anywhere, but you just want to sit down and put your head down, free your brain from thoughts. It's possible here. You are relaxing in the yard, the children are splashing in the pool and everyone is happy. The estuary is a 5-minute walk. Yes, it’s not as well equipped as on the central beach, but the fun is different, it’s shallow there, it’s generally great for people with children, you sit on the shore and just watch the children, there aren’t many people, and they tumble there like in a swimming pool. The estuary also warms up a lot, sometimes the water is even hot in the evening. In the estuary, all the healing properties of water are present just like in the sea. And also, for those who don’t know, it is at the bottom of the estuary that there is mud, for which many people come here. It treats diseases of the skin and joints. People smear themselves and parade along the beach, waiting for the healing effect. Dirt is quickly washed off and does not leave marks on the swimsuit. By the way, I saw the program “Revizorro” with Nastasya Samburskaya about Sochi, they compared Yeisk mud and mud with Dead Sea. It turned out that they are no different in composition. This is true, by the way.
The location of the "Point of Dawn" is in a place from which you can quickly reach everyone the right places cities. There is a huge Magnit hypermarket and a pharmacy within a 5-minute walk, which allows you to avoid dragging heavy bags of groceries from far away or buying the necessary medications. A little further is the city center.
Everyone wants to settle closer to the central beach, but believe me, there is nothing good there. I’ll tell you my impression: there are more people there than fur seals in the rookeries. Children always get lost there because they take a step to the side and no longer understand where you belong, there are half-naked people all around. Dirty. Horror! There is no such thing on the estuary.
A bus runs from Point of Dawn directly to the beach on the spit; this is a different beach, more comfortable. Minibuses run from the center to all parts of the city. The fare for them is 17 rubles. Taxi 70 rub. around the city, so our family of 4 took a taxi, we got the same money.
Poddubny Park, embankment, boat trips at sunset, dancing in cafes is evening entertainment. We also had a lot of fun in the hotel courtyard. Having become acquainted with our neighbors, we very often had get-togethers until the night. We drank wine, fried shish kebab and fish and chatted, chatted, chatted. Very unforgettable moments!
I would like to say that half of the impression of your holiday is made up of the hospitable owners of the Points of Dawn hotel. Valery and Oksana are always ready to answer questions, advise on the best course of action, where to go, how to make it cheaper, and will try to resolve any problems that arise. It is very convenient if you arrive by train or plane, the hosts can meet you and, on the contrary, take you to Starominskaya or to the airport in Rostov-on-Don.
I wrote a lot and in detail. It took me a long time to get ready, but I had a free day and finally I did it. Therefore, I recommend the “Point of Dawn” hotel in Yeysk to everyone. Personally, we will go to them again this summer.
