M4 highway which direction? Toll highway M4 “Don. Speeding scam

The road from Orel to Dzhubga.
On Tuesday evening we decided to leave on Wednesday afternoon. We collected our things, food for the road and went to bed.
Among the gadgets useful on the road, I had the following:
Car DVR, star X-61 radar detector (borrowed from a friend) and an Android with maps installed in it.
It’s better not to take a new radar detector on such a trip, in case it’s defective. I bought it from a friend who often and quickly travels to Moscow and back. He says no fines came. Of the maps I have Navitel and Yandex maps. I didn’t use Navitel because... I know the way, but Yandex maps came in handy near Voronezh.
We left at 13:30 and went straight to Rosneft. I filled up with 20 liters of AI-92. I didn't bother refueling anymore. It's enough to get to the M4, but gas stations there are a dime a dozen. We got to Liven quickly, the road was normal, there were a lot of “irons” this time, but we were in no hurry. The on-board computer showed me a consumption of 5.4 liters per 100 km, an average speed of 92 km/h. From Liven to the borders of the Oryol and Lipetsk regions, the road is under repair, you can drive, but be careful. There are potholes on the side of the road. The average speed on the Livny-border section is 72 km/h. In the Lipetsk region the road surface is ideal. I was already in Yelets at 17-10. I was pleasantly surprised that we crossed the Yeletsky Bridge without traffic jams or difficulties. The bypass in Yelets was almost empty, but at every traffic light and overpass the radar beeped like crazy. At the paid section, I already paid 60 rubles and now Voronezh is close. I drove onto the Voronezh bypass, drove across the bridge of the Voronezh River and got stuck in a traffic jam. Repair of the bridge to Borovoye. The length of the traffic jam according to Yandex maps is about 12 km. Locals and the Moscow region were all rushing to the dirt road. I didn't take any risks with my basin. Many tried to get around the traffic jam on the newly constructed road, but valiant traffic police inspectors were waiting for them at the exit. With a smile on their teeth and their staffs raised high, they rejoiced at their approach. I stood there for 2 hours, it turned out that 2 trucks collided under the newly built junction and blocked the entire road. If it weren’t for the accident, I would have passed this section without any traffic jams. There is also construction going on at the exit from the district road. The markings there were worn out, so by intuition I drove out correctly and without any congestion. In Rogachevka we stopped to eat. Dinner time is around 9 pm. The cafe was chosen based on the number of truck drivers. The more truckers, the tastier and larger portions. Dinner for 4 persons cost 550 rubles. There I stopped at a Lukoil gas station and filled up my car for 600 rubles. Bodyaga AI-92 ECTO+. The onboard mileage is 480 km, fuel consumption is 29 liters. My “TazikV” at first refused to eat this ecological fuel. According to the principle “Give me some meat, fuck the greens for me.” It’s good that the on-board computer has the “Fast and Furious” function, which resets something in the brain and they reconfigure to the fuel that is in the tank. After using this function, the machine came to life and even became faster. In Rogachevka I met the StrelkaV device, which I was familiar with. Be very careful there, my radar detector beeped once and that was it. It’s good that I looked at StrelkaV from afar. I slowed down before the radar detector beeped. The road to Pavlovsk has 4 lanes. From Yelets to Pavlovsk I moved in the right lane, there were rarely potholes, and even then it’s hard to call them potholes after the Oryol roads. Afterwards the road became two-lane. The quality of the coating is mediocre, you can drive. At night it began to rain, the markings were barely visible, and in the oncoming lane “masters of life” in jeeps and expensive cars were making crazy overtakes. The headlights caught sight of cars that had left the road; one jeep was lying with its wheels up. I caught the “Iron” and held on to it. The truck turned out to be fast and moved at a speed of 80-90 km/h. Even if dirt flew from under it, I was calm about the oncoming traffic. They will not trample against overtaking trucks. And I kept my distance and drove to Mllerovo. There the road again turned into 4 lanes. There was a slight traffic jam in Tarasovsky, it was stronger there during the day, but we got through it at night. In Kamensk-Shakhtensky I stopped to drink coffee and replace the gas in the tank. This time I filled it with 92 without any nanotechnology additives. At 4:30 I passed Aksai. There are a lot of radars, be careful there. The post on the Golden Bridge was closed, the lights were turned off. Probably the traffic police were asleep or the post was actually closed, and I also didn’t meet any traffic police at the Bataisky post. There, carefully, I drive past the turn to Krasnodar for the second time. There is a ring and the turn is not very clear. In short, I cut an extra circle and moved on. There is a weight control point in Samara. The post was working, but the inspectors were busy with a truck that tore down the fence of the post. Oil and diesel fuel spilled all over the road. There is a strict checkpoint at Tsukerovaya Balka (Border of Rostov - Krasnodar Territory), I passed it at 6 am without any problems and there was no slowdown. Seeing my Basin from afar, they turned towards the Polish driver in an expensive foreign car. Further the road to Krasnodar region Everything is under repair and there is no way to overtake along the entire route. At 8 am I drove up to Krasnodar. There, following the signs for Novorosiysk, I took the Dzhubga highway. There was another traffic jam on the Krasnodar-Adygea border for about 40 minutes. Road repair on platinum. I don’t recommend refueling in Adygea. There, in every garden there is a mini fuel production plant. Gas stations with the name Lukoil or Gazprime, RosTneft, are very doubtful. I got to Goryachiy Klyuch and at the very exit of the LUKOIL gas station, there is also a small hotel on 2 floors with parking. Usually here I sleep right in the car for about 40 minutes so that I can safely continue driving through the mountains. But I overcame sleep while approaching Krasnodar. Then my wife woke up and the road became more fun. I decided to carefully drive through the mountains without rest. Ahead lay only one dangerous section with a steep climb and a very steep descent of 3 km in length and turns of 120 degrees. 80 km to the sea. We arrived in Dzhubga at 10:30. There is a lot of tourist traffic in the village, so you have to be careful. Tourists break the rules and throw themselves under cars.
Mileage 1380 km, AI-92 fuel 68 liters, travel time (from home) 19 hours. We spent 3,000 rubles on the trip, including fuel, snacks and coffee. 85% of the road has 4 lanes, the rest is under repair or 2 lanes. Average speed is 80-90 km/hour. The last time I came to Dzhubga, the journey took 25 hours. The cost of AI-92 on the M4 highway is 28-29 rubles per liter.

The M4 Don highway is a strategic artery connecting the central part of the country with the southern region. The road is equipped with 7 toll sections. Before your trip, you need to find out ways to bypass areas with traffic jams, the price of travel on toll roads, as well as alternative ways to bypass them.

The road, excluding the section near Losevo, has at least 4 lanes. IN Krasnodar region There are several kilometers of 3-lane highway. 7 main sites for this period is not the final number. It is planned to open several toll collection points in the Rostov region, with the Krasnodar Territory next in line.

Overview of toll areas

If some sections are equipped and have good conditions for travel, then sections in Voronezh region, with incomprehensible payment points and poor quality of roads, cause confusion among motorists. As Avtodor says, each toll section has the ability to bypass on a toll road. Is this so, let's try to figure it out.

Moscow section from 21 to 93 km

This is the first section with a length of 72 km, starting immediately after the Moscow ring road and ending near the village of Sitne-Shchelkanovo.

One of the main routes to bypass this particular section is the Kashirskoye Highway and the exit to the highway is already at the end toll road. The disadvantage of this route is the heavy congestion of the route and traffic jams due to repair work.

Section of the route from 91 to 211 km

This period passes through 2 regions - Moscow and Tula. The end is near the village of Dedilovo.

The 119 km section of the highway also has several detour options. Having reached the village of Sitne - Shchelkanovo along Kashirka, at the fork in the road we turn towards the village of Stupino. Near the railway crossing we turn onto Pobeda Avenue and again go out onto Kashirka. We move on along it. At the village of Dedilovo you can again exit to the M4 and drive 14 km to the next toll booth.

Road section from 225 to 260 km

This road goes around the town of Bogoroditsk. Its length is 35 km. It starts from the village of Sukhanovka and ends at the village of Alekseevka. A detour is not a very good option, but when driving along Kashirskoye Highway it is one of the main options. Along Kashirka we get to Zendikovo. Here at the fork we go to the Voronezh highway, or we continue moving along the previous path. The second path is longer, it is better to go along it in dry weather.

This section also includes the bypass of the city of Efremov. The toll section starts from 287 and goes to 322, the length is more than 34 km. This period begins at the village of Dry Rafts and goes to the village. Pushkari. There are several alternative ways. You can continue driving along the Voronezh highway and Kashirskoye highway. But there is a route to bypass all of the listed areas, without winding along busy highways and streets. We present it below.

An alternative way to bypass the first 3 toll sections

On this route there are fewer resting places and motels with canteens. But on the expressway this route is even faster than the M4. This is Simferopol highway, M2 highway. The speed limit on the free highway is 110 km/h. Paradoxical but true. You can move along this route and bypass almost all toll sections, but it is better to get off on the M4 near the town of Yelets and then drive along the main highway.

Another plus is that there are no speed limits of 30–40 km/h as on alternative roads.

To get there, you need to exit the Moscow Ring Road at the M2 Highway Crimea sign or follow the sign for Simferopol. We pass Tula, turn onto Efremov, here we go onto the old highway and can go around Yelets, as well as a toll detour near Zadonsk. In front of Efremov there will be a traffic sign for a toll highway, an alternative. After the junction, turn right, cross the bridge and at the traffic police post, turn right onto an alternative section of the detour.

As a result, it turns out to pass, on a good road, at least 4 toll sections, increasing the length of the route to Yelets by 7 km.

A section of the bypass of Yelets, Lipetsk region.

The length of the route is more than 83 km, starts from 330, lasts up to 414 km. The beginning and end are located near two tracts. From Shumsky Verkh to Ozerki near Livenskaya. Here you can take a detour along the old M4 highway. But traffic jams often occur in Yelets on the bridge over the Don. But better way This detour, as well as the next piece, is not. This road can take you to Voronezh.

Detour from Zadonsk and the village of Khlevnoye

The 50 km long road starts from 414 and ends at 464 km. You can follow the old Moscow highway after Yelets, along the main road. We pass the city of Zadonsk, then there are several small villages one after another. There are terrible speed bumps here and a speed limit of 30 km/h almost along the entire route. Therefore, we recommend not to kill the suspension, but to pay and drive along the toll section with ease. Especially if you have a transponder.

Next, the payment points come almost one after another. If the Voronezh bypass is a new section with good coverage, then the road from 544 to 633 km, with a length of 89 km, is just a piece old highway with places with high ruts. In addition, further away there is a piece of road near the village of Losevo with constant traffic jams. Therefore, we advise you to bypass it immediately after Voronezh. In case of traffic jams, you can bypass the toll sections on Usman and Rogachevka by turning at the sign towards the urban settlement. Liski and, moving through Kamenka and the city of Rossosh. At the same time, the traffic jam is bypassed and the exit to the M4 occurs near the Rostov region.

Thus, you can bypass all toll sections of the DON highway, but the detour is not always the most the best option, especially on bad roads and with speed limits. It might be better to purchase a transponder for 1 thousand rubles, travel on a toll road, without queues, with a 20% discount.

Recently I traveled along the route Moscow - Rostov-on-Don and back along the M4 highway. One way mileage is about 1100 - 1200 km.
Moscow - Rostov
The road there took about 13 hours, back - 15. The road in the Moscow region is good, at least 2 lanes in each direction with a divider. In the Tula region the road is worse, but that’s okay. Closer to the Lipetsk region, the road becomes single-lane without a divider; two-lane sections are rare - just pockets for overtaking slow-moving vehicles. At the entrance to Voronezh there is a short section of the toll road, either 8 or 18 km. The fare is 10 rubles. The quality is normal, there were no cops. On the way there we stopped in Voronezh and had a snack at McDonald's. It is not far from the center on General Lizyukov Street. Nearby is a monument to the cat Vasily from the cartoon. During the entire trip you feel at home - 99% of the cars have license plates from Moscow, Moscow region and St. Petersburg. After Voronezh the road is so-so - there are many repair areas. There are cops, but not very many. Lots of dummies of traffic police vehicles. In the Lipetsk region, there were especially many traffic police ambushes, and the officers were hiding surprisingly deep in the forest, so they quickly ran out of there to stop cars. There are a lot of traffic jams in the Rostov region due to road repairs. Among the breakdowns on the road to Rostov, 1 low beam lamp and 1 fog lamp burned out.
Rostov
The next day the second low beam lamp died. Rostov turned out to be poor in car stores, and the ones that came across did not have H7 lamps. Since the trip was a vacation, I didn’t want to bother too much and decided to go to the officials. I reached the "Autoleague". H7 Motorkraft cost 306 rubles per piece, when asked to install they replied that
queue for several days! Installed at a roadside service station. They took 150 rubles, but then I had to do some digging myself - one of the light bulbs was installed crookedly. In Rostov, traffic is somewhat chaotic. Local drivers are Cossacks at heart, so they only drive off with a slip, constantly honk their horn, don’t use turn signals, and don’t even realize that they can give way. The traffic lights are not very convenient - they hang high and shine dimly. Roads are of satisfactory quality. I only refueled at TNK, no problems. During the entire stay, the traffic police was never stopped.
Rostov-Moscow
We left on Sunday morning, so there wasn’t a lot of road traffic. Rostov region we drove by pretty quickly. There were traffic jams in the Voronezh region, especially at the entrance to and around Voronezh. Due to the large number of slow-moving trucks, the drivers' nerves could not stand it and there were many overtakings; several of these overtakings ended in accidents right before our eyes. The temperature outside was over 30, we were traveling with air conditioning. Unfortunately, after a while the car began to overheat. The focus began to dull, the revolutions began to rest at first 4000, then 3000, and overtaking became impossible. When above 2500 the engine no longer turned, I had to stop and stand with the hood raised. After 20 minutes we drove on, the air conditioner was no longer turned on. There were also traffic jams at the entrance to Yelets. Somewhere in the middle of the Tula region, the road became 2-lane and it was possible to drive 120 - 140. There were no further adventures; we calmly drove to Moscow along the good road in the Moscow region.
The already crappy paintwork acquired new chips. There were no other breakdowns along the way.
Upon arrival in Moscow, I immediately ordered an air intake from the Focus ST. I hope after installation the overheating problem will not recur.

Traffic jams on the M4 Don highway in the summer of 2018, how to avoid traffic jams on the M4 Don highway, recommended cafes on the M4 federal highway:

Early on a fine summer morning, we left the Moscow Ring Road and found ourselves on the most “hellish” highway - M 4 Don. From Moscow and almost to the border of the Moscow region there is an excellent 6-lane highway, and from Moscow to Vidnoye there are generally 8 lanes. Speed limits are sometimes 110 and sometimes 130 kilometers. So far we have never seen anything like this anywhere in Russia.

Highway M 4 Don - major traffic jams

Slow driving on the M4 Don highway is guaranteed to you in the Voronezh region, at the fork near Ramon(this is just before the entrance to Voronezh) - the traffic jam here is due to repair roads. But this is not the worst thing that awaits you if you go on vacation to the south.

The hell on the M4 highway in terms of traffic jams has not been changed for many years. And he is in the village of Losevo. Traffic jams in this area of the M4 during the “hot season” sometimes stretch for 20-40 kilometers. Why, do you know?

Because four lanes here turn into two and the highway physically cannot cope with the capacity as usual. The normal mode for the M4 highway in the Losevo area is 14,000 cars per day. And during the holiday season there are at least 30,000 of them.

Cars pull off to the side of the road, passengers have lunch right next to the highway; some even put up tents. Those who want “movement” - move at a speed of 3.5 to 10 km/h. An excellent prospect on vacation, right?... I personally saw how owners of SUVs try to get around the traffic jam in the Losevo area right through the fields - and there, as a result of this, a traffic jam also forms))))

Local residents are not at a loss and offer to show you a detour for 300 rubles. But, since there are many people willing, there is not much room on the bypass roads either.

Another one a traffic jam on the M4 Don may await you in the Aksai area(suburb of Rostov-on-Don). It’s not necessary once at a time, but you can lose more than an hour here. But in Aksai, on the outskirts, there is an excellent cafe “Pompomchik”. We appreciated the donuts and other menu when we took a ride from.

A couple of years ago, we avoided the traffic jam on the M4 Don after Bataysk (long repairs), leaving the highway on the P269 and driving along it to Pyatigorsk.

How to avoid traffic jams on the M4 highway in the Losevo area?

You can go around this section through Buturlinovka. This is a detour of 45 kilometers. You won’t gain anything in terms of time if you decide to go around the traffic jam on the M4 Don, but at least you won’t stand still. At kilometer 595 you turn off M4 towards Bobrov, transiting through Pavlovsk.

*Life hack for those who don’t mind traffic jams. A year ago we didn’t avoid this traffic jam and at the same time had lunch at the Varenichnaya cafe - just beyond Losevo on Moscow. The dumplings are delicious (140 rubles, 15 pieces), the Wi-Fi is excellent. Only the toilet spoils the impression - a village toilet.

Another option to get around the traffic jam on the M4 Don in the Losevo area is along the Voronezh-Rossosh-Boguchar route. At the 588th kilometer of the highway, turn to Liski, then through Kamenka, Rossosh and Kantemirovka. Take the M4 Don highway outside the town of Boguchar.

There are a lot of cars on the M4 highway. In literally all the regions, we have never encountered such “internationality” anywhere. Some have already become so familiar (we’ve been driving together since the very morning) that you want to wave your hand.

Where to have lunch on the M4 highway?

I’ll tell you about those roadside cafes on the M4 Don highway that I visited myself.

In the Tula region, 271 kilometers in the direction from Moscowthere is some good stuff Cafe "Dobrynya". We stopped there for coffee. In addition to coffee, you can have quite a hearty lunch (or breakfast) there. Coffee - 45-50 rubles, juices - 40 rubles, set lunches - 200 rubles, all kinds of pies, cutlets, side dishes are present. “Dobrynya” is open 24 hours, excellent Wi-Fi, shower, toilet, and there is a Tatneft gas station nearby.

At the 325th kilometer of the M 4Don highway there is another good one Cafe "Hello", and next to it is a small hotel.

At the Kon-Kolodez fork (460 km highway M 4 Don) is located Hotel "Rus". There is a cafe nearby - one of the favorites of truckers. So you can safely stop for a snack. This is in case you are driven off the M4 and drive through this section. We returned to the M4 Don federal highway at the border of the Voronezh and Tula regions.

There are practically no rest areas on the M4 highway (keep this in mind if you are traveling with children). Cars stop wherever they want and drink coffee and do gymnastics right on the side of the road. “Yolochka” was noticed only at the 555th kilometer (from Moscow), but it was somehow too shabby.

At the 593rd kilometer of the M4 Don highway we passed by Cafe "Admiral" with declared Wi-Fi And big amount trucks and cars (a good indicator that speaks in favor of the cafe). Another motel on the M4 highway with a large concentration of cars - at kilometer 595. Immediately behind them is a traffic police post. Read our selection of hotels - the link was above.

Where are we going along the M4?

Read:

From the 700th kilometer of the M4 federal highway, 4 lanes begin again. There are more and more hotels and houses with the sign “Overnight”.

You can (and should) drink coffee in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. Coffee costs 80 rubles, the café’s ambience is one of the most original, and in general it’s time to warm up in any case.

What else should you keep in mind when planning a trip along the M4 Don highway? In the Krasnodar region there are quite a lot of traffic cops with cameras on the roadsides. There are not very many stationary cameras, and they are visible from afar. Not all cameras issue fines; many are needed simply to monitor the traffic situation.
