    If you decide to use the claim procedure, you will need to submit:

    • a statement from the person in whose name the ticket was purchased;
    • copy of passport;
    • original ticket (if it is not electronic);
    • supporting document in original;
    • a certificate confirming the reason for your lateness;
    • indication of the method of refund.

    Returns can now be made via postal item(you will be charged all necessary taxes and fees) or by transfer to a current account or bank card (for this you must provide all bank and account details)).

    The passenger has the right to file a claim for a refund of the ticket within 6 months from the date of departure of the train. The decision to return funds is usually made within 1 month, after which the citizen is notified of the decision.

    If the ticket was purchased for a trip to neighboring countries:

    1. Contact the box office in the country where you are located.     If there are errors in personal data on the ticket, then three situations are possible:

    1. If the ticket contains no more than one incorrect letter in the last name and one incorrect number in the passport number, you do not need to do anything.     You can return your ticket based on the rules of the Rules for the Transportation of Passengers. The reasons for cancellation, rescheduling the date, time of travel, or simply being late for the train may or may not be valid. The intermediary company or Russian Railways itself are usually not interested in the reasons for canceling the trip and the reasons for returning an unclaimed travel document, and there is no need to explain them.

    The passenger's right to a refund is stated in the Rules of Transportation and the passenger, by purchasing a travel document, agrees with these rules.

    If the reasons are valid, for example, the bus on which the passenger was traveling to the Russian Railways departure station was late, and accordingly missed the train and lost a certain amount of money. You should apply for reimbursement of funds to the culprit, and not try to prove the validity of the reason and not demand reimbursement of costs from Russian Railways.

    The procedure for returning train tickets in Russia

    To do this, in order to return a travel document, you need the passenger’s passport, the ticket itself (or a coupon, order number for electronic ones) and submit an application to the ticket office.

    If payment was made in cash, it is received at the cash desk, and the refund will be credited to the card within 30 days.

    It is not possible to return the full amount due to mandatory withholding of payments:

    • Russian Railways fee 192.70 rubles;
    • service fees (if purchased online);
    • commission of payment systems (if any were paid).

    When can I return a train ticket?

    The time frame within which the procedure can be completed depends on the route of the train. The travel document will be accepted even after the train has departed, but the amount received will be less than the purchase price.

    For local trains:

    • 8 hours before departure - full refund;
    • 8 - 2 hours - 50% of the price of a reserved seat (money for reserving a seat in the carriage) and the fare;
    • less than two hours before and 12 hours after departure from the boarding station - non-refundable for reserved seat.

    For trains traveling to neighboring countries:

    • Passengers depositing 24 hours or earlier are entitled to the full amount;
    • from 24 to 6 hours after - the entire fare and 50% of the reserved seat;
    • less than 6 hours before and 1 hour after departure - the price for travel without a reserved seat.

    For international trains:

    • The price of the ticket is refunded when it is returned 6 hours before the travel time;
    • Less than 6 hours the cost is not refundable.

    The Russian Railways tax is not refundable, commission of payment systems, service fee, regardless of the time of delivery.

    Deadline for returning money to the card when returning a ticket

    After submitting all documents and writing the application, cash will be credited to the passenger’s card within a month and to the exact card from which the payment was made. On account of another bank card or it is not possible to receive funds in cash. This condition is mandatory in order to prevent fraudulent activities.

    Refund deadlines:

    • 7-30 days from filing an application for a refund of the value to the card;
    • 10-60 days for one of the electronic wallets.

    Return procedure for Russian Railways tickets purchased online

    Refunds of Russian Railways tickets purchased online but not issued on the form can be made in your personal account on the website where the purchase was made, using the “make a return” button (the name may differ). If you need to exchange, rather than return, an electronic Russian Railways ticket purchased for a train on the organization’s website, then it is recommended to read the following.

    Passengers registered on the website can complete the procedure one hour before the departure time, but not authorized at any time before the departure of the train.

    If there are several coupons in the order, the passenger has the right to return all at once or a certain number.
