The Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai is one of the main attractions of the city. It is the fifth tallest television tower in the world. Its height is four hundred sixty-eight meters.

The main ball of the tower is forty-five meters in diameter and is located at a height of two hundred and sixty-three meters above the ground. It houses a restaurant that rotates in a circle. On the second level of the ball there is a dance floor, a bar and twenty rooms with karaoke.

A small ball, which is located even higher, at an altitude of three hundred and fifty meters, includes a penthouse with an excellent observation deck, offering a magnificent view of the city. There is also a conference room and a coffee shop.

At night, the tower is completely transformed - thousands of lights play on it. The impressive lighting attracts a large number of tourists.

Fahua Tower

Fahua Tower is a seven-story brick tower with a height of 40.83 meters located in Shanghai's Jiading district. It was built between 1205 and 1207. Translated from Chinese, Fahua means “wisdom of the Buddha.” According to legend, students came to the tower en masse before exams to become wise.

During the Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties, the appearance of the structure deteriorated significantly. Only in 1608, with the support of the district authorities, a colossal restoration of the tower was carried out. Each level is equipped with railings and cornices on which bells hang. In windy weather, the gentle ringing of bells can be heard from afar. You can climb the stairs to the very top and admire the panoramic view of Shanghai.

During 1994 - 1996, the tower and basements were repaired, as a result of which ancient coins, jade figurines, stone sculptures, bronze and ceramic items, and ancient books were found.

Shanghai Tower

Shanghai Tower is a super-tall building under construction in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China.

Shanghai will soon have one more skyscraper. The new giant will grow in the Pudong region, namely, in the famous financial center of Luqyazui. Next to the Shanghai Tower, as the developers of the project have nicknamed it, there are already two high-rise buildings: the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Jin Mao, which the Chinese call the Golden Building of Success.

According to the project, the height of the building will be 632 meters, the total area will be 380,000 square meters.

The developers said that upon completion in 2014, the Shanghai Tower will become the most majestic building in China and the third tallest structure in the world, behind the Tokyo Sky Tree (634 meters) and the Burj Khalifa (828 meters) in Dubai.

In 2015, it will give up the first Chinese and third world position to the Pinan International Financial Center under construction in the city of Shenzhen, and after 2016 it will become 5th in the world, also taking into account the India Tower in Mumbai. The Shanghai Tower is one of the most notable architectural projects of modern times.

Nanxiang Tower

Nanxiang Tower is a historical brick building in Jiading District. The pagoda has a history of more than a thousand years. It was built during the Song Dynasty at the gate of the Nanxiang White Temple, which was damaged by fire in 1731.

In 1985, a large-scale restoration of the tower was carried out, and the pagoda was restored to its original appearance. The height of the brick pagoda is 11 meters. The shape of the tower is a regular octagon. Gray brick and wood are used as building materials.

Excerpt characterizing the Oriental Pearl

- Count! Your Excellency, how are you here? - asked the doctor.
- Yes, I wanted to see...
- Yes, yes, there will be something to see...
Pierre got down and stopped talking with the doctor, explaining to him his intention to participate in the battle.
The doctor advised Bezukhov to contact His Serene Highness directly.
“Why, God knows where you are during a battle, in obscurity,” he said, exchanging glances with his young comrade, “but His Serene Highness still knows you and will receive you graciously.” “So, father, do it,” said the doctor.
The doctor seemed tired and in a hurry.
- So you think... And I also wanted to ask you, where is the position? - said Pierre.
- Position? - said the doctor. - This is not my thing. You will pass Tatarinova, there is a lot of digging going on there. There you will enter the mound: you can see from there,” said the doctor.
- And you can see from there?.. If you...
But the doctor interrupted him and moved towards the chaise.
“I would see you off, yes, by God,” here (the doctor pointed to his throat) I gallop to the corps commander. After all, how is it with us?.. You know, Count, tomorrow there is a battle: for a hundred thousand troops, a small number of twenty thousand wounded must be counted; but we have neither stretchers, nor beds, nor paramedics, nor doctors for six thousand. There are ten thousand carts, but other things are needed; do as you wish.
That strange thought that from among those thousands of people alive, healthy, young and old, who looked at his hat with cheerful surprise, there were probably twenty thousand doomed to wounds and death (perhaps the same ones he saw), – Pierre was amazed.
They might die tomorrow, why do they think about anything other than death? And suddenly, through some secret connection of thoughts, he vividly imagined the descent from Mozhaisk Mountain, carts with the wounded, the ringing of bells, the slanting rays of the sun and the song of the cavalrymen.
“Cavalrymen go to battle and meet the wounded, and do not think for a minute about what awaits them, but walk past and wink at the wounded. And out of all these, twenty thousand are doomed to death, and they are surprised at my hat! Strange!" - thought Pierre, heading further to Tatarinova.
At the landowner's house, on the left side of the road, there were carriages, vans, crowds of orderlies and sentries. The brightest one stood here. But at the time Pierre arrived, he was not there, and almost no one from the staff was there. Everyone was at the prayer service. Pierre drove forward to Gorki.
Having driven up the mountain and into a small street in the village, Pierre saw for the first time militia men with crosses on their hats and in white shirts, who were loudly talking and laughing, animated and sweaty, working something to the right of the road, on a huge mound overgrown with grass. .
Some of them were digging a mountain with shovels, others were transporting earth on planks in wheelbarrows, and others stood doing nothing.
Two officers stood on the mound, ordering them. Seeing these men, obviously still amused by their new, military situation, Pierre again remembered the wounded soldiers in Mozhaisk, and it became clear to him what the soldier wanted to express when he said that they wanted to attack the whole people. The sight of these bearded men working on the battlefield with their strange clumsy boots, with their sweaty necks and some of their shirts unbuttoned at the slanting collar, from under which the tanned bones of the collarbones were visible, affected Pierre more than anything else he had seen and heard so far. about the solemnity and significance of the present moment. Oriental Pearl TV Tower Shanghai, China

Shanghai TV Tower with the romantic name “Oriental Pearl” is one of the most famous modern attractions in China. It is incredibly recognizable and has become one of the symbols of today's Shanghai.

Built in 1994, the Shanghai TV Tower is now the second tallest in Asia and the fifth in the world, its height is 468 meters, only the towers in Toronto and Moscow are taller than it. Like many TV towers, the “Oriental Pearl” is not limited to its direct purpose: there are observation decks, restaurants, a teahouse, souvenir shops and a museum, so visiting it is one of the must-sees when traveling to Shanghai. By the way, the journey itself up to the observation decks will also be memorable - after all, the TV tower has the only two-story elevator in all of China, in which up to fifty people can simultaneously rush upward at a speed of 4 meters per second.

Externally, the TV tower is very beautiful: several spheres of different diameters seem to be strung on its base, the three largest of which contain observation platforms, from which you should definitely take a look at Shanghai spread out under your feet. The highest observation deck allows you to look at the city from a height of 360 meters, and in the ball located just below there is a revolving restaurant, where admiring the city you can combine with an equally wonderful meal. And in the Shanghai TV Tower you can sing karaoke - where would you be without it? There are as many as twenty special rooms for this activity.

By the way, despite the modernity of the TV tower, its image, according to the Chinese, is consistent with the ancient lines: “Large and small pearls fall into a jasper dish,” so here, too, there is some antiquity, China is China. The Shanghai History Museum, located on the ground floor, will also help you remember the past. Here you can get acquainted with the life of the people who inhabited these places earlier: the museum presents scenes from their life (wax figures and decorations were used).

The “Eastern Pearl” also looks beautiful at night, when the backlight lights come on, giving the tower even more charm. The tower fits well into the landscape of modern Shanghai, while retaining the subtle flavor of the East and striving for the future without renouncing the past.

The Oriental Pearl Tower is one of the many attractions in Shanghai. Her original appearance always attracts the eye. And several observation platforms of the tower will not leave you indifferent.

Where is

The Oriental Pearl Tower is located on the small Lujiazui river peninsula in the Pudong business district on the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai.

Geographic coordinates 31.239605, 121.499854

General information

The main purpose of the Eastern Pearl Tower is a television and radio transmission tower. But besides this, it has restaurants, shops, excellent observation decks and a small hotel.

Inside the Oriental Pearl

Construction began in 1991. Already on November 18, 1994, its grand opening took place. The total cost of the project is estimated at 830 million yuan.

Jiang Huang Chen, Lin Benling and Zhang Xiulin worked on the design.

The Eastern Pearl is comparable in height to a 153-story building. Its height including the spire is 468 meters (to be absolutely precise, 467.9 meters). The height of the spire alone is 118 meters.

Sad fact - Despite all the security systems, on April 13, 2010, a fire was recorded in the tower. At 2 a.m. the top of the spire caught fire. Perhaps this happened due to a lightning strike.

Until 2007, the Oriental Pearl was the tallest building in all of China. Then it lost first place to the Shanghai World Financial Center. It must be said that it is only 24 meters higher (its height is 492 meters).

Design Features

The tower contains 11 spheres of different sizes. Two of them are mainly noticeable: the lower one, with a diameter of 50 meters, and the upper one, with a diameter of 45 meters. They are connected by three columns, each 9 meters in diameter.

There is another sphere on the spire - 14 meters in diameter.

The entire Eastern Pearl Tower is supported by three giant columns that go deep into the ground. Each column also has a decorative sphere.

Base of the Oriental Pearl Tower

The remaining 5 balls are in the space between the three columns, connecting the two largest spheres. They house 20 hotel rooms at the Space Hotel.

At night, the entire structure is illuminated with LEDs.

Evening illumination of the tower

For quick travel, there are 6 elevators inside. They move at speeds of up to 7 meters per second.
It is noteworthy that these elevators are two-story and can accommodate up to 50 people at a time.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. It is the sixth tallest TV tower in the world and the second tallest in China.

Main tower levels

It is worth highlighting its most interesting levels separately.

Here you will see wax figures and scenes from the history of Shanghai.
This hall is located on the first level of the tower.

Height 78 meters

There is a cinema with a 240-degree ring screen. It shows Shanghai's development plans for the next 70 years.
The platform is located at the bottom of the lower large sphere.

Virtual roller coaster

At an altitude of 95 meters there is a hall with a virtual roller coaster. This is the first virtual roller coaster hall in China and the highest in Shanghai.
It is located at the top of the lower large sphere.

At an altitude of 259 meters, this unique floating gallery is the only 360-degree transparent viewing gallery in the world. Its circumference is 150 meters, width 2.15 meters and height 1.9 meters. Each square meter of floor can support a weight of more than 2 tons.

The floor (about 4 cm thick) here is also transparent, which gives the impression of walking on the clouds.
The platform is located at the bottom of the second large sphere.

Transparent floor of the observation deck

It is located at an altitude of 263 meters. From here you have an excellent 360 degree view of Shanghai.

Revolving restaurant

The Sky Rotating restaurant is located 267 meters above the ground. This is the largest revolving restaurant in all of Asia. It is designed for 360 seats (perhaps this number corresponds to 360 degrees of full rotation of the restaurant). Spacious spherical glass windows offer stunning views of the river and city.

The restaurant makes a full turn in 2 hours, allowing you to fully explore the city.

Here you will be offered dishes from Southeast Asia, Japanese, Chinese, European and American cuisine.
You will find the restaurant at the top of the second large sphere.

Space module

This is the highest level of the Eastern Pearl. It is located 351 meters above the ground in the third and highest sphere. It is usually called the Space Module.
There are 2 levels: 339 meters and 351 meters, respectively.

Eastern Pearl in tourism

The tower is available for visiting from 8-30 to 21-30
Paid entrance. Cost from 35 to 260 yuan depending on the levels visited. Children under 1 meter are admitted free of charge. Children from 1 to 1.4 meters with a 50% discount.

You can find out more detailed information about the time and cost of visiting at official website of the tower.

Located in Shanghai, the Pearl of the Orient is the third tallest television tower in Asia and the fifth tallest in the world. It seems to me that she is not only the pride of the Chinese, but also the favorite of directors who sometimes make films against her background. It is visible from almost anywhere in the city and attracts attention, so I wanted to visit it.

The futuristic building consists of pearls “strung” on a vertical axis, which house cafes, restaurants and observation decks. I couldn't pass by such beauty!

How to get there

To get to the TV Tower, simply take the subway to 陆家嘴站 (Lujiazui) Station, located on the Green Line (Line 2). The fare costs $0.45–1.3 (3–9 yuan). When you go out into the city, you will not miss the “Pearl of the East”.

You can get there by bus 81, 797 or 961, but I advise you to walk. The walk will take no more than 10 minutes, but will allow you to enjoy the architecture of the city and the sea air.

How to get inside

It will be difficult to get to the TV tower. You will have to stand in a huge queue to enter (and inside for the elevator it will be no less). What to do?

To avoid the queue I recommend:

  • Come with a tourist group. They are always skipped in line. If you book a tour, you will spend no more than 10 minutes entering. In addition, you can choose a guide who knows Russian. However, this excludes the purchase of the most expensive ticket to enter the restaurant, and your free time will be limited. By the way, prices in the restaurant start from $45 (300 yuan) per meal.
  • Arrive in the evening. The Chinese mentality is such that even in a modern and noisy city, evenings are spent in a quiet family circle. Therefore, at late hours the queue at the TV tower will be mostly foreigners. You will not see local residents who culturally educate their children, and they make up the majority of visitors. In addition, in the evening, in any weather, you can enjoy the panorama of the city ablaze with lights. “Pearl of the East” hospitably welcomes visitors from 8.00 to 22.00.

Having visited the TV tower both during the day and in the evening, I can say that the evening one makes a much greater impression.

Which ticket to choose

There are different tickets. It all depends on what you want to visit and how high you want to go. If you don't plan on eating at the revolving restaurant inside, the €27 (RMB 200) ticket is fine.

I advise you to check on the spot about other ticket options.

What to see

At the entrance you should pay attention to the photographs of city panoramas. You will see how the city grew and changed, and therefore the TV tower.

Museum

Once inside, visit the Shanghai History Museum on the ground floor. It will really be interesting for everyone there. I was struck by the fact that the exhibition halls were full of moving exhibits, illuminated in various ways and making sounds, which suits the Shanghai style so much. It was no less surprising to observe the elements of the performance.

The museum may seem small at first, but it is actually huge. From ancient times to development prospects - everything about Shanghai is there. If you want to learn more about the history of the city, it is worth visiting the Shanghai History Museum, which is located near the Pearl of the Orient.

Observation room

And, of course, be sure to visit the observation decks. You can climb them using super-fast elevators, which are the pride of the Chinese. China's only double-deck elevator is also located on the TV tower. During the climb, which will be quite long, you will listen to a short story about this place in English.

It is at such sites that an amazing panorama of the city opens up. There are 3 observation rooms at the “Pearl of the East”. I advise you to visit only the top one, because... If you are not afraid of heights, then the other 2 will not impress you.

At an altitude of 360 meters, you can step on the glass floor, walk along the perimeter of the “pearl”, and take unusual photographs. However, if you are afraid of heights, it is worth visiting the areas on the floors below.

Souvenirs

Souvenirs can be purchased everywhere. On the ground floor there are many shops with toys and sweets. They reminded me of duty free. The best souvenirs from the “Pearl of the Orient” are sold at the observation decks, but be prepared that their prices are quite inflated.

Finally

If you find yourself in Shanghai, I advise you to visit the observation decks of the “Pearl of the Orient”, but postpone souvenirs and meals to cheaper places. I wish you a pleasant trip!
