All of the following is relevant for the high season, from early November to mid-April. During the low season, the number of ships heading to Lipa Island is sharply reduced, and on some routes, such as Phuket - Lipa and Langkawi - Lipa, flights are canceled altogether.

Most tourists come to Lipa Island either from Bangkok, or from the islands closest to Lipa and tourist centers in the southern part of the Andaman Sea. It is these routes that will be described below.

From Bangkok to Lipa Island

The nearest airport to Lipa, receiving flights from Bangkok, is located near the city of Hat Yai.

Several airlines operate from Bangkok to Hat Yai Airport, including the low-cost airlines AirAsia and Nok Air.

The cost of tickets for this route is very wide, and starts from 1200 baht. You can get this price if you pay for a ticket several months before departure. If you buy a ticket a few days before departure, the price can significantly exceed 2,000 baht.

At Hat Yai Airport, you can buy a transfer (joint ticket) to Lipé Island, which includes a minibus ride to Pakbara pier and then, by speedboat, to Lipé Island.

Similarly, from Bangkok to Lipe Island can be reached via. Such a trip takes about the same time as a trip through Hat Yai airport, but it usually costs a little more.

If you prefer to travel by taxi, the trip from Hat Yai airport to Pakbara pier will cost you 1800 - 2000 baht, from Trang airport - 2200 baht. All prices for taxis, minibuses and speed boats are indicated as of the beginning of 2020. Over the past 10 years, they have changed insignificantly, all that has happened over the years - the transfer by minibus has risen in price by 100 baht.

Note. The last ship from Pakbara pier usually departs at 15-30. Accordingly, if you do not want to spend the night on the pier, it makes sense to arrive at Hat Yai airport no later than 12 noon.

Cheap from Bangkok to Lipa Island

If the cost of air tickets seems excessive to you, or there simply won't be tickets, because planes to Hat Yai fly to capacity, from Bangkok to Hat Yai can be reached either by train or by bus.

The cost of train tickets, as of March 2018, started at 149 baht per seat in an unconditioned 3rd class carriage. The more comfortable 2nd and 1st class carriages cost 345 baht and 734 baht, respectively. Travel time from Bangkok to Hat Yai was 16 - 17 hours, trains departed during the day from central station Bangkok (Hua Lamphong Railway Station) and came to Hat Yai city in the morning. The current train schedule and prices can be viewed on the official website of Thai Railways, tickets can be bought directly at the station.

The cost of bus tickets from Bangkok to Hat Yai, as of March 2018, started at 643 baht for a second class bus seat. During high season, the route - - - - - - is operated by ships and speedboats of several carriers, including Tigerline Travel, Bundhaya Speedboat, Satun Pakbara Speedboat and Andaman Inter Line (no website).

Ticket prices for all carriers are approximately the same, and, as of early 2020, the prices for transfers from neighboring islands were as follows:

... Phuket - Lipa = 3400 baht;
... Phi - Phi - Lipa = 2600 baht;
... Lanta - Lipe = 1900 baht;

If you go from the islands of Phuket and Lanta to Lipa not by a short road (by sea), but by land, along the coast of the Andaman Sea to Pakbara pier and only from there by sea to the island of Lipa, then you can save more than 2 thousand baht and 800 baht, respectively.

From Langkawi to Lipa Island

The island of Lipa is located on the border with Malaysia, and about 30 km from the nearest Malaysian resort, Lipa. There are no difficulties in crossing the Thai-Malaysian border, Russian citizens are not required to apply for visas, and if you have the time, it would be a good idea to visit both Lipa Island and Langkawi Island. Such a trip between the islands is worth 1200 baht, and it takes about an hour in time, not counting the time for passport control and passing other formalities.

If you are planning a trip along this route, do not forget that the boats between Lippe and Langkawi run only during the high season, from early November to mid-April. In the low season, you can also get from the island of Langkawi to Lipa, but not directly, but by a roundabout road across land (Langkawi - mainland Malaysia - crossing the border on the mainland - a trip to Pakbara pier - and only from there by sea to the island of Lipa). According to Malaysian travel agents, this road can be completed in 5 hours. This thesis, however, need not be taken quite literally.

Ko Lipe Island is located in the Andaman Sea in Satun province in southern Thailand, very close to the Malaysian island of Langkawi. In this article, I talk in detail about how to get to Ko Lipe from Bangkok, Phuket, other resorts in Thailand and Malaysia, as well as from Russia.

But on Koh Lipe there is no pier, in the low season or when the sea is rough, the boats arrive at the shore on, and in the high season - on. Some speed boats (including ours) park near the coast, and some boats are farther from the coast, and they are transported to the beach on longtails for 50 baht per person.

Landing on Koh Lipe Island

Loading and unloading luggage is still a circus: things are thrown right over the water and it seems that the suitcase is about to fall into the sea, so don't give valuable things for loading into the boat, but keep them with you! Luggage is packed at the stern, and in some places even on the roof of the boat, so that the suitcase can sail wet and dirty ...

It is better to buy such a ticket in advance on this website, firstly it will be cheaper (~ 750 baht), and secondly, you will not have to wait long at the airport while tourists from other flights are recruited.

We got to Koh Lipe just with. I thought for a very long time how to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket. I decided to choose sea route🙂 I immediately swept the high-speed boats away (I wouldn’t stand 4-5 hours in such a high-speed boat, even an hour and a half was enough for me 🙂), I wanted to sail on the Tiger Line Ferry, for some reason I imagined such a big ferry, the same as or how we 🙂

But, after reading the reviews, I realized that it is better to choose another option how to get to Ko Lipe from Phuket 🙂 In the reviews, people complained about the old boat and frequent long delays, wrote that the boat does not take 4 hours, as stated, but almost twice longer! After reading the reviews, I decided to choose another way of how to get to Ko Lipe from Phuket, namely the more standard way through Hat Yai and Pakbara.

Option 2: via Hat Yai and Pakbaru

By bus

You can get from Phuket to Hat Yat by bus. Buses run from 6 am to 9:45 pm, travel time is about 8 hours, the cost is from 300 to 600 baht, depending on the class of the bus. Tickets can be bought at the bus station in Phuket Town or online.

It is best to take the VIP 24 night bus, which departs at 21:45 and arrives in Hat Yai around 6 in the morning. Then transfer to the pier and the first boat at 9:30 to Koh Lipe. Then you will be on the island around 11:00 - 11:30 and still the whole day ahead!

By plane

Bangkok Air direct flight from Phuket to Hat Yai. Departure at 7:25, arrival at 8:30. More recently, there was another evening flight at 19:25, but at the moment I do not see it on the schedule. The cost is about 1700 baht, luggage is included and even breakfast on board 🙂 Check the price and buy tickets Phuket - Hat Yai >>

We have chosen this option of how to get to Ko Lipe from Phuket. Everything went smoothly: at 5:30 in the morning we ordered a taxi to our condo, at 6:15 we were already at Phuket airport, checked in luggage, drank coffee in a coffee shop, loaded into a small airplane, had breakfast 🙂 We arrived in Hat Yai even before the time indicated in timetable.

Small propeller aircraft Bangkok Air on the route Phuket - Hat Yai
Breakfast on the plane

I wanted to buy tickets for the airport - pier - Ko Lipe transfer online in advance on the website (it turned out cheaper), but while I was thinking if we would have time for the minibus, which departs at 9 am (we would have had time and even with a large supply), ticket sales stopped (tickets can be purchased online no later than three days in advance). Therefore, at the airport we found a travel agency, where we bought a complex mini bass + speedboat ticket. But I had to wait more than an hour for passengers from other flights.

We were at Pakbara pier at 11:15 am, where the purchased tickets must be exchanged for numbers used to board the boat (numbers are very convenient - no queue is created). They sailed instead of the promised 11:30 at 12:00, and sailed to Ko Lipe at 14:00 - because of the storm and rain that began along the way, the boat sailed slower and arrived at Sunrise Beach, and not on the opposite beach. It was even more convenient for us: our hotel was literally a few steps from the place of arrival of the boat 🙂

Hooray, it's our turn to load the boat 🙂
We are waiting in the boat to sail to Koh Lipe

Lipa island how to get from Krabi

From Krabi, you can get to Ko Lipe through Hat Yai. There are no direct flights from Krabi to Hat Yai, and, in my opinion, it is not advisable to fly through Bangkok, so you can get there by bus, minibus or taxi. The distance to the pier is only about 300 km.

Minibus tickets to Hat Yai from will cost 350 - 400 baht, a complex ticket Ao Nang (Krabi) - Ko Lipe - 1000 - 1200 baht. You can buy at any travel agency or hotel.

Lipa island how to get from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan

To get to Ko Lipe with / / you need to follow the path described above: first you need to get to Hat Yai, then to Pakbaru, and then by boat on Lipa 🙂 The path is not short ... About how to get to Hat Yai from Samui, read

Direct route Langkawi - Lipa

In high season, boats run on the Langkawi - Lipa and Lipa - Langkawi route. On the island of Ko Lipe, there are even immigration offices equipped with passport control.

Immigration office on Koh Lipe in the center of Pattaya Beach

Boats / boats from Langkawi arrive at Pattaya Beach on Lipe (read about all the beaches of Ko Lipe). They leave from two piers to Langkawi:

  • from Kuah Jetty pier (in the capital of Kuah island, near the symbol of the city of the eagle)
  • from Telaga Harbor pier, which is next to Oriental Village Park

We sailed in the opposite direction (i.e. from Lipa to Langkawi) and I specially chose a carrier whose boats arrive at Telaga pier, because first of all in Langkawi planned to check in at the Geopark Hotel, visit and, which are a short drive from this pier.

As elsewhere in Tae, Ko Lipe does not have a single circular beach along which it would be possible to bypass the entire island. There are only three major beaches on Lipa - Sunrise, Sunset and Pattaya. And a few small ones, which can only be reached by boat. The beaches are somewhat similar - the sand is clean and white everywhere, the entrance to the water is shallow. However, there are differences, which are what experienced tourists use. So, we look at the map of Ko-Lipe.

On the map, Lipa looks like a horseshoe

Pattaya Beach is primarily a transshipment base. Brigades of tourists come here and leave from here, there is also a Thai immigration office and several large hotels. The beach is long and clean and quite suitable for swimming, however this is not a Bounty, if you know what I mean :)

Sunset is the most picturesque and “wild” beach in Ko Lipe. There are steep slopes, along the coast there are more stones and, accordingly, fewer boats.

Sunrise Beach is perhaps the most balanced. There is enough space for everyone - both beach goers and boats.

Sunrise has some of the best beach bars for spending evenings with friends, listening to music and drinking Chang.

Diving and snorkeling in Lipa

Photo: beginners on Lipa quickly master diving

Lipa Island is located in the Ko Tarutao National Park, so the surrounding water area is just ideal for good diving... The nearby coral reefs are teeming with many species of tropical fish, and turtles, barracudas and dolphins can also be admired. Beginner divers should take educational tours on neighboring islands Sawang and Chabang. The most advanced diving companies are Adang Sea Divers and Ko Lipe Castaway Divers.

If you are looking for budget accommodation, chances are you will be staying in the center of the island, in one of the guesthouses around the local Walking Street. Noisy, but close to the entire tourist get-together: cafes, bars, shopping. One of the freshest and most inexpensive hotels is “A Plus Deluxe Hotel”. You can view prices and book

Hotels on the western coast of Lipa Island (especially on the hills) are quieter and with gorgeous views from the rooms, but they have their own problem - every night transport - either constantly calling the local "taxi", or walking, which is inconvenient in the dark.

If the main purpose of your holiday is diving, it is best to settle in one of the authentic resorts of Sunrise Beach, like "Adang Sea Divers & Eco Lodge"- simple, but very cheap. Here you can spend more time among fellow submariners, practice with equipment, and loading onto boats will be more optimal for you.

Comfort hotels in Ko Lipe

The most luxurious hotels on the island are definitely Serendipity Resort, Mali Resort and the modern Idyllic Concept Resort. If your budget allows, be sure to live in one of them!

Budget Accommodation in Ko Lipe

Yesterday at 8 am we left the house and by lunchtime we were in Krabi. We settled in a guest house in the town and, without wasting time for a shower and changing clothes, immediately went to Ao-Nang. We walked along familiar streets, looked into the condo where we used to live, and met the readers in the evening. Closer to the night in the town we met with friends from Hua Hin. And this morning everyone started together on Koh Lipe.

How to get from Phuket to Koh Lipe

Rassada pier in Phuket is located near Phuket Town. One of the pink city buses goes there. But since the departure time is at 8 am, the easiest way is to take a taxi from your hotel in Phuket or from the bus station in the town. You can order a taxi to Rassada pier via the Internet by this link.

From Phuket to Ko Lipe by plane

Another convenient option. From Phuket, you can take a direct Bangkok Airways flight to Hat Yai, and from there take a minibus to Pak Bara pier, then a speed boat to Ko Lipe. Here is a link to Phuket-Hat Yai flights.

How to get further? I don't know for sure, but at the airport, you may be immediately offered a complex ticket for a minibus and a boat to Ko Lipe. We ourselves took a different route, so I'm not sure if there will be an opportunity to buy such a ticket.

If there are no offers, go to Hat Yai Bus Station, from which you will take a bus to Pakbara Pier. Next take a speedboat to the island of Lipa. You can order bus + boat tickets at 12goAsia website.

Bus Phuket - Trang, minibus to Pak Bara pier, boat to Ko Lipe

Go to Phuket Bus Terminal 2 and buy tickets for the Phuket-Trang bus. It is not possible to buy such tickets over the Internet anywhere, only at the ticket office of the station. Tickets will cost around 300 baht, give or take. Once you arrive in Trang, you can buy a ticket for a minibus to Pak Bara pier right at the station. Here is a website where you can buy a complex ticket for minibus and boat Trang - Ko Lipe.

If you need to stay overnight in Trang, book a hotel on Booking by this link.

How we got to Koh Lipe from Phuket

We drove along the ground. In Krabi, friends were waiting for us by car. We stopped for the night in Krabi town, and the sutra left by car in the direction of Pakbar pier. By car, drive from Krabi for about 3-4 hours. Next, I will tell you how we spent the evening in Krabi, visited the Ao Nang beach, as well as our first impressions of Ko Lipe.

Evening in Krabi

We got to Krabi by minibus in 3 hours from the central bus station, 140 baht per person. She drove, apparently, a former motorcycle biker - she was throwing herself with an energy drink all the way and drove quite aggressively. We noted for ourselves that in the future it is better to avoid trips by minibuses.

Ao Nang is not the best beach in Thailand

What's new to tell you about Krabi? We walked along Ao Nang. We felt a little nostalgic. Wanted to give the beach a second chance, but ... Ao Nang Beach is really disappointing! This is how we wrote the article 2 years ago, everything is still true! Dirty, muddy brown water, sand, which is painful to walk on, muddy bottom ... The noise from motor boats is such as if it were not a seaside, but a construction site with bulldozers ... Only the unique mountains of Krabi save the day. There would be no mountains, there would be nothing to do there at all. Who would have thought that at such an advertised resort with nice name, Krabi, one of the worst beaches in Thailand

We are in Krabi!

The guys are quite drunk, someone will think ... I don’t know, maybe it is, especially after. I hope the lovers of Ao-Nang will forgive me, but the bottom in the Moscow River looks exactly the same.

Dirty Ao Nang Beach

By the way, in the far left corner, a full-flowing stinking river flows into the sea. Very very smelly

Krabi is the most expensive mainland resort in Thailand

Prices in Krabi are another story. There is a myth among travelers that Phuket is the most expensive island ... Nonsense! Ao Nang is much more expensive than Phuket! Is there expensive transport in Phuket? The most expensive route in Phuket costs 40 baht, and the songteo from Ao Nang to town costs 50 baht.

Nepalese

Nepalese are everywhere! All the stalls in Nepalese. They are very easy to identify by their disgruntled facial expressions and Indian appearance. Katya forgot her glasses on the bus, she needed to buy new ones. In Phuket, in any tent, sunglasses for 100 baht. These impudent Nepalese muzzles tell us 350. One has only to be indignant at what such a triple cheat is, as they wave their hand at you and defiantly leave. I’m not even saying that their etiquette does not have an elementary "Hello" and a smile to the buyer. They sit with disgruntled mugs, buried in the phone.

Sunset

We met the guys living in Krabi, who, as it turned out, have been reading our blog for a long time. They are not even offended that in due time we wrote about Krabi not the most best reviews(the truth). We admired the wonderful sunset together.

Krabi town

Here in the town everything is Thai. We ate hearty soup for 80 baht and for dessert pancakes with banana. We met with friends from Hua Hin and drove to Makro. For the coming sleep they issued a beer and sleep.

The next morning we had to get up early. We had sandwiches and coffee from 7-11 and drove further by car towards Pakbar pier.

Koh Lipe island - first impressions

We will definitely describe the island of Ko Lipe in more detail. While I am sharing my first impressions. The water is clean and clear. But not turquoise, like on Similans.

Sunset Beach

First impressions of Ko Lipe

  • You have to pay for each step - for a speedboat ticket, for getting to the pier, for a boat from the speedboat to the beach, for entering the island
  • There are no "bounty" beaches here
  • The beaches are lined with boats
  • A lot of rubbish and devastation, you just have to get off the central Walking Street
  • Groceries are more expensive in stores. Prices in tourist cafes are about the same as everywhere else - dishes for 100-150 baht
  • Many Russian tourists
  • Many tourists of other nationalities
  • In the evening on the beach, music, fire shows and cozy bars, just like in Goa
  • The island is a large market with restaurants, bars and hotels among the shopping arcade.

By the way, main beach on Koh Lipe called Pattaya Beach

We didn’t want to spend the night in cheap thatched bungalows, it’s romantic only for those who have never been to the tropics. We checked into a decent hotel -. Day as much as 2000 baht ($ 55). Well, this is Ko Lipe, that's ok !! Everything is great, the hotel is new, the bed is clean, but ... No hot water! Well, how can you, eh ?? Rooms are rented for 2 thousand baht per day and cannot buy at least some cheap water heaters!

Swim at Sunset Beach. Without much pleasure. It was low tide, very shallow, literally knee-deep, and there are a lot of stones at the bottom, and we did not take our swimming shoes. Tomorrow we will swim in Pattaya or go to the third beach for exploration. For a beach holiday on this island, see the new article.

Ko Lipe is considered a national park. We paid 200 baht ($ 6) for the entrance. And on the island itself there are a lot of such filthy places, where rubbish, building materials, something dug up and then abandoned. I understand what Thais themselves put on nature. But is it really so difficult to somehow ennoble everything, since they take money for the entrance? Thousands of tourists from all over the world come here, but they are not ashamed to breed a srach and not clean anything afterwards.

Ko-Lipe is not the same (c)

Our friends are not happy either. In the evening we ate in a cafe, took along Chang and went to the beach. The mood improved, we liked Pattaya Beach in the evening. So, while the impressions of Ko Lipe are mixed.

Have any of you been to this island? Write how he is to you? What did you like and what did not? Where to eat deliciously, what excursions did you take?

PS: I am already looking forward to the comments of the clever people, such as - "with what attitude we drove, then we got it" or "what kind of inside, you see outside" and similar philosophical nonsense. So, I answer right away, we drove with an excellent mood and expected to see the Similan level :)

Added the next day: today all morning swam in Pattaya Beach and a nearby beach. Wonderful blue water, from which you don't want to crawl out! The mood and experience of the island is improving!
