- comfortable minibus from the airport to Pak Bara pier - met at the airport with a sign at 9:00 (from the airport to the pier approximately 2 hours on the way - 119 km),
- speed boat from Pak Bara pier to Lipe island with a stop for 10 minutes - take a walk along the reserved Tarutao island (at 13:30 the boat arrives to Ko Lipe island, to Pattaya beach).

All of the following is relevant for the high season, from early November to mid-April. During the low season, the number of ships heading to Lipa Island is sharply reduced, and on some routes, such as Phuket - Lipa and Langkawi - Lipa, flights are canceled altogether.
Most tourists come to Lipa Island either from Bangkok, or from the islands closest to Lipa and tourist centers in the southern part of the Andaman Sea. It is these routes that will be described below.
From Bangkok to Lipa Island
The nearest airport to Lipa, receiving flights from Bangkok, is located near the city of Hat Yai.
Several airlines operate from Bangkok to Hat Yai Airport, including the low-cost airlines AirAsia and Nok Air.
The cost of tickets for this route is very wide, and starts from 1200 baht. You can get this price if you pay for a ticket several months before departure. If you buy a ticket a few days before departure, the price can significantly exceed 2,000 baht.
At Hat Yai Airport, you can buy a transfer (joint ticket) to Lipé Island, which includes a minibus ride to Pakbara pier and then, by speedboat, to Lipé Island.
Similarly, from Bangkok to Lipe Island can be reached via. Such a trip takes about the same time as a trip through Hat Yai airport, but it usually costs a little more.
If you prefer to travel by taxi, the trip from Hat Yai airport to Pakbara pier will cost you 1800 - 2000 baht, from Trang airport - 2200 baht. All prices for taxis, minibuses and speed boats are indicated as of the beginning of 2020. Note. The last ship from Pakbara pier usually departs at 15-30. Accordingly, if you do not want to spend the night on the pier, it makes sense to arrive at Hat Yai airport no later than 12 noon.
Cheap from Bangkok to Lipa Island
If the cost of air tickets seems excessive to you, or there simply won't be tickets, because planes to Hat Yai fly to capacity, from Bangkok to Hat Yai can be reached either by train or by bus.
The cost of train tickets, as of March 2018, started at 149 baht per seat in an unconditioned 3rd class carriage. The more comfortable 2nd and 1st class carriages cost 345 baht and 734 baht, respectively. From Langkawi to Lipa Island

We got to Koh Lipe just with. I thought for a very long time how to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket. I decided to choose sea route🙂 I immediately swept the high-speed boats away (I wouldn’t stand 4-5 hours in such a high-speed boat, even an hour and a half was enough for me 🙂), I wanted to sail on the Tiger Line Ferry, for some reason I imagined such a big ferry, the same as or how we 🙂

By bus
You can get from Phuket to Hat Yat by bus. Buses run from 6 am to 9:45 pm, travel time is about 8 hours, the cost is from 300 to 600 baht, depending on the class of the bus. Tickets can be bought at the bus station in Phuket Town or online.
It is best to take the VIP 24 night bus, which departs at 21:45 and arrives in Hat Yai around 6 in the morning. Then transfer to the pier and the first boat at 9:30 to Koh Lipe. Then you will be on the island around 11:00 - 11:30 and still the whole day ahead!
By plane

We have chosen this option of how to get to Ko Lipe from Phuket. Everything went smoothly: at 5:30 in the morning we ordered a taxi to our condo, at 6:15 we were already at Phuket airport, checked in luggage, drank coffee in a coffee shop, loaded into a small airplane, had breakfast 🙂 We arrived in Hat Yai even before the time indicated in timetable.

Breakfast on the plane I wanted to buy tickets for the airport - pier - Ko Lipe transfer online in advance on the website (it turned out cheaper), but while I was thinking if we would have time for the minibus, which departs at 9 am (we would have had time and even with a large supply), ticket sales stopped (tickets can be purchased online no later than three days in advance). Therefore, at the airport we found a travel agency, where we bought a complex mini bass + speedboat ticket. But I had to wait more than an hour for passengers from other flights.
We were at Pakbara pier at 11:15 am, where the purchased tickets must be exchanged for numbers used to board the boat (numbers are very convenient - no queue is created). They sailed instead of the promised 11:30 at 12:00, and sailed to Ko Lipe at 14:00 - because of the storm and rain that began along the way, the boat sailed slower and arrived at Sunrise Beach, and not on the opposite beach. It was even more convenient for us: our hotel was literally a few steps from the place of arrival of the boat 🙂

When is the best time to go to Koh Lipe

It should be borne in mind that the island is small and there is little housing, so hotels for December and January must be booked in advance (6 or more months in advance).
How to get to Ko Lipe on your own
You can get to Lipa Island from Phuket, the islands of Phi Phi, Lanta, Langkawi, etc. - depending on where you are coming from. From Bangkok, you first need to get to the nearest pier, and then sail by sea to Lipa.
There are no airports on Lipa, you can only get there by sea, moreover, not every month. Navigation in this area starts from October 19 and ends on May 16.

If you are flying from Europe, the route will be something like this: flight to Bangkok - flight to Hat Yai - bus to the pier - ferry or boat on Lipa. In fact, everything is much simpler than it seems.
The easiest option is to buy a single ticket on the website from Bangkok immediately with a transfer to Ko Lipe. Then you just get on a plane in Bangkok, and then you will be accompanied everywhere, up to the island itself.
Important! Please note that in Bangkok, AirAsia planes fly from Don Muang Airport (this is NOT the airport you will fly to from Russia, Ukraine or Europe). We still need to get to this airport. Therefore, it will be too tiring to get from Europe to Ko Lipe in 1 day. Better to at least spend the night in Bangkok.
It looks like buying a ticket to Koh Lipe like this: in the “where” field, look for “Thailand (Island Transfer)” and select “Lipe”.
You will first fly to Hat Yai, then you will be taken to the port and put on a ferry to Ko Lipe. The whole journey will take 6 to 9 hours. On the way, you will be accompanied by company employees. Everything is simple, clear and understandable.
How to get to Lipa on your own, without a transfer

Koh Lipe beaches
As elsewhere in Tae, Ko Lipe does not have a single circular beach along which it would be possible to bypass the entire island. There are only three major beaches on Lipa - Sunrise, Sunset and Pattaya. And a few small ones, which can only be reached by boat. The beaches are somewhat similar - the sand is clean and white everywhere, the entrance to the water is shallow. However, there are differences, which are what experienced tourists use. On the map, Lipa looks like a horseshoe Pattaya Beach is primarily a transshipment base. Brigades of tourists come here and leave from here, there is also a Thai immigration office and several large hotels. The beach is long and clean and quite suitable for swimming, however this is not a Bounty, if you know what I mean :)

Yesterday at 8 am we left the house and by lunchtime we were in Krabi. We settled in a guest house in the town and, without wasting time for a shower and changing clothes, immediately went to Ao-Nang. We walked along familiar streets, looked into the condo where we used to live, and met the readers in the evening. Closer to the night in the town we met with friends from Hua Hin. And this morning everyone started together on Koh Lipe.
How to get from Phuket to Koh Lipe

From Phuket to Ko Lipe by plane

How to get further? I don't know for sure, but at the airport, you may be immediately offered a complex ticket for a minibus and a boat to Ko Lipe. We ourselves took a different route, so I'm not sure if there will be an opportunity to buy such a ticket.
If there are no offers, go to Hat Yai Bus Station, from which you will take a bus to Pakbara Pier. Next take a speedboat to the island of Lipa. You can order bus + boat tickets at 12goAsia website.
Bus Phuket - Trang, minibus to Pak Bara pier, boat to Ko Lipe
Go to Phuket Bus Terminal 2 and buy tickets for the Phuket-Trang bus. It is not possible to buy such tickets over the Internet anywhere, only at the ticket office of the station. Tickets will cost around 300 baht, give or take. Once you arrive in Trang, you can buy a ticket for a minibus to Pak Bara pier right at the station. How we got to Koh Lipe from Phuket
We drove along the ground. In Krabi, friends were waiting for us by car. We stopped for the night in Krabi town, and the sutra left by car in the direction of Pakbar pier. She drove, apparently, a former motorcycle biker - she was throwing herself with an energy drink all the way and drove quite aggressively. We noted for ourselves that in the future it is better to avoid trips by minibuses.
Ao Nang is not the best beach in Thailand
What's new to tell you about Krabi? We walked along Ao Nang. We felt a little nostalgic. Wanted to give the beach a second chance, but ... Ao Nang Beach is really disappointing! This is how we wrote the article 2 years ago, everything is still true! Dirty, muddy brown water, sand, which is painful to walk on, muddy bottom ... The noise from motor boats is such as if it were not a seaside, but a construction site with bulldozers ... Only the unique mountains of Krabi save the day. There would be no mountains, there would be nothing to do there at all. Who would have thought that at such an advertised resort with nice name, Krabi, one of the worst beaches in Thailand

Krabi is the most expensive mainland resort in Thailand
Prices in Krabi are another story. There is a myth among travelers that Phuket is the most expensive island ... Nonsense! Ao Nang is much more expensive than Phuket! Is there expensive transport in Phuket? The most expensive route in Phuket costs 40 baht, and the songteo from Ao Nang to town costs 50 baht.
Nepalese
Nepalese are everywhere! All the stalls in Nepalese. They are very easy to identify by their disgruntled facial expressions and Indian appearance. Katya forgot her glasses on the bus, she needed to buy new ones. In Phuket, in any tent, sunglasses for 100 baht. These impudent Nepalese muzzles tell us 350. I’m not even saying that their etiquette does not have an elementary "Hello" and a smile to the buyer. They sit with disgruntled mugs, buried in the phone.

We met the guys living in Krabi, who, as it turned out, have been reading our blog for a long time. They are not even offended that in due time we wrote about Krabi not the most best reviews(the truth). We admired the wonderful sunset together.

Here in the town everything is Thai. We ate hearty soup for 80 baht and for dessert pancakes with banana. We met with friends from Hua Hin and drove to Makro. For the coming sleep they issued a beer and sleep.
The next morning we had to get up early. We had sandwiches and coffee from 7-11 and drove further by car towards Pakbar pier.
Koh Lipe island - first impressions
We will definitely describe the island of Ko Lipe in more detail. While I am sharing my first impressions. The water is clean and clear. But not turquoise, like on Similans.

First impressions of Ko Lipe
- You have to pay for each step - for a speedboat ticket, for getting to the pier, for a boat from the speedboat to the beach, for entering the island
- There are no "bounty" beaches here
- The beaches are lined with boats
- A lot of rubbish and devastation, you just have to get off the central Walking Street
- Groceries are more expensive in stores. Prices in tourist cafes are about the same as everywhere else - dishes for 100-150 baht

- Many tourists of other nationalities
- In the evening on the beach, music, fire shows and cozy bars, just like in Goa
- The island is a large market with restaurants, bars and hotels among the shopping arcade.

We didn’t want to spend the night in cheap thatched bungalows, it’s romantic only for those who have never been to the tropics. We checked into a decent hotel -. Day as much as 2000 baht ($ 55). Well, this is Ko Lipe, that's ok !! Everything is great, the hotel is new, the bed is clean, but ... No hot water! Well, how can you, eh ?? Rooms are rented for 2 thousand baht per day and cannot buy at least some cheap water heaters!

Ko Lipe is considered a national park. We paid 200 baht ($ 6) for the entrance. And on the island itself there are a lot of such filthy places, where rubbish, building materials, something dug up and then abandoned. I understand what Thais themselves put on nature. But is it really so difficult to somehow ennoble everything, since they take money for the entrance? Thousands of tourists from all over the world come here, but they are not ashamed to breed a srach and not clean anything afterwards.

Our friends are not happy either. In the evening we ate in a cafe, took along Chang and went to the beach. The mood improved, we liked Pattaya Beach in the evening. So, while the impressions of Ko Lipe are mixed.
