Freedom Beach, Phuket. Paid beaches in Phuket - are they worth it? Freedom Beach - paid freedom Freedom Beach Phuket reviews

Exotic countries like A attract tourists with their originality, tropical vegetation, interesting local cuisine, and a lot of original entertainment. But the main thing why travelers go there on vacation is, of course, . Long, smooth, strewn with soft white sand, they attract people who are tired of dusty cities and thirsty for relaxation. can offer tourists beaches for every taste, and one of the most beautiful among them is Freedom Beach. This is what we will talk about next.

How to get there

Freedom Beach, or Freedom Beach, is interesting because it is not so easy to get there. It is located in a private bay not far from the island, and the most convenient way to it is by water.

There are no special boats that would take tourists to this beach. Therefore, to get there, you need to negotiate with the locals to rent a long boat. For about 1,500 baht, the captain will take everyone to Freedom Beach, wait for them there and take them back. You can try to reduce the price a little, but Thais rarely agree to sail for less than 1200-1300 baht. It is best to negotiate to rent a boat in Patong or on - then the trip will take only 15 minutes.

You must understand that the boat will not be able to sail to the very shore - vacationers will have to walk through the water for the last couple of meters. So it’s worth taking a bag or backpack with you in which you can put cameras and phones so as not to get them wet.

How to get to the beach for those who want to save money? Such travelers will need to overcome a much more difficult path.

Those who have a scooter must first find the Avista Hide Away Hotel and drive a little further than it. There, on the right side, there will be a gate where you can park your bike. You must walk the rest of the way, having previously paid 200 baht per person for moving through private territory.

Those who go by tuk-tuk do not need to look for the road - the driver will take you where they need to go - but it will cost 300-400 baht, and you also need to walk from the gate yourself. And be patient, because you will have to walk for about half an hour, and if the path to Freedom Beach goes down, then you will have to climb back up the mountain.

How to get to the beach is up to you, but many tourists find the second method very tiring and suitable only for athletic people.

General information

Almost all travelers arriving on the island strive to visit Freedom Beach at least once, and for good reason. This is the least crowded beach on the island, and it is here that you can feel truly cut off from civilization.

Freedom is an amazingly picturesque beach, surrounded by hills with dense jungle and decorated with large boulders scattered in artistic chaos by nature itself. The water here is clean, the sand is fine and warm - not a beach, but a magazine picture!

However, every year Phuket becomes more and more popular, and gradually progress is reaching Freedom Beach. A hotel has already been built here and restaurants have opened. Perhaps one day it will be as crowded with tourists as any other Thai beach. But for now, everyone can enjoy solitude, take gorgeous photos, snorkel to their heart's content, exploring the coral reef and the rich underwater world.

Phuket has more than 15 free and beautiful beaches. Is it worth paying money for paid beaches? Freedom Beach is one of these paid beaches. We visited Freedom and formed our opinion about it. Let's find out what the beach is really like and whether it's worth going to it.

Photo of Freedom Beach, Phuket

Having lived in Phuket for half a year, we have never gone to a single paid beach in Phuket. With the exception of the now closed one, the entrance fee to which used to be only 20 baht per person, and not 200, as on other paid beaches. This year my friends and I decided to go to the paid Freedom Beach. Entrance 200 baht per person in 2018.

Description of Freedom Beach in Phuket

Freedom Beach is small, about 300 meters long. There is nowhere to go for a walk, but it is longer than other paid and hard-to-reach beaches in Phuket, such as Paradise, Nui, Banana, Ao Sen and. There is plenty of space for relaxing and swimming.

Wide shore, soft fine sand, mountains covered with jungle on all sides.

Freedom is located in a closed bay, where you feel like you are still on an island, albeit a very large one.

Even in high season, you can find a small area where there will be no one else in the water except you (until noon)

Sunbeds and shade

There is shade on the beach only in the morning. At noon there is no shadow. It is strictly prohibited to bring your own umbrellas. You can rent sun loungers with umbrellas under the palm trees. Sun loungers are not included in the entrance price and must be paid separately - 100 baht per sun lounger. Apply sun cream more actively and do not neglect hats.

Freedom from the water

Sea and sand

The sand on the beach is soft, light and pleasant on the feet, as on most beaches. There is no garbage either in the sand or in the water near the coastline. Cleanliness is up to par.

The sea is a beautiful and unusual color, periodically changing, sometimes blue, sometimes greenish. Freedom Beach in Phuket reminded me of the beach on the Railay Peninsula. The color of the water in sunny weather is identical. And Slava.

For some reason, in the photos the sea is blue, and not with tints of green, as in reality

Waves

Small waves are present even in high season. We went to the rocks on the far left side of the beach and swam there in calmer water. In addition, there are fewer people in the southern part of the beach.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience in this article.

Water clarity

The water is simply phenomenally clear. Friends laugh that I probably have some kind of transparency level sensor. I am inclined to believe it myself. So, rely on a man who has visited 20 islands in Thailand. The sea is no worse than on the islands or. Freedom has the clearest water in all of Phuket. The sea here is one of the best, both for swimming and for watching fish. To experience such clear water, it is important to arrive on a sunny day and during high season (December to March).

Snorkeling and fish

Nothing swims in the sea except various fish. The fish are so accustomed to people that they swim very close and wait for food. It is prohibited to feed fish in Thailand! Don't break the rules, just admire the underwater world. We regretted not taking a mask and an underwater camera. But even without a mask, all the fish are clearly visible. Watch this short video. We assure you, there is nothing like this anywhere else in Phuket!

Mini observation deck on Freedom Beach

If you walk a little along the rocks on the far left side of the beach, you will see a beautiful view of the entire Freedom Beach. Great place for photos.

The edges of Freedom Beach are framed by rocks and stones, which is an additional incentive for girls to get here and take a lot of successful shots. Or just lie in the water in the clearings between the stones.

Reviews of Freedom Beach in Phuket

We didn't like Freedom in the first 10 minutes. We greatly regretted that we had come such a difficult way, and even paid money. The reason was due to cloudiness. When everything is gray, the beach doesn't look good at all. But we were lucky, the weather began to clear up. Within 10 minutes the sun began to shine in full force. The beach has changed. We gasped with delight and immediately changed our minds. In unclear weather, Freedom Beach looks mediocre and unremarkable. Therefore, it is important to arrive on a sunny day.

Freedom beach Phuket: photos in cloudy and sunny weather

Our opinion. Freedom Beach is one of the most beautiful in Phuket. We will be happy to visit it again. I don't mind the time and money spent on it.

While we were swimming, we unwittingly overheard reviews from tourists. It’s funny that people who recently went snorkeling on Phi Phi shared their emotions that there are even more fish on Freedom and it’s more interesting to snorkel.

How to get to Freedom Beach

How to get to Freedom Beach on your own? There are 3 options:

  • by boat from Patong (about 2000 baht per boat round trip, share with other tourists)
  • on your own transport
  • by taxi (300-500 baht one way)

Getting there on foot is not an option. Although, we read reviews about how people went to Freedom Beach on foot from Patong. Walking uphill for 3 km is not a good idea. Getting to Freedom Beach on a bike can be problematic. The road is dirt and very bad in places. If you ride a moped, be as careful as possible so as not to fall off. By car it is also possible to drive down to the beach along this road. There is free parking.

Road to Freedom and parking for cars

Road to Freedom Beach

Let's tell you more about the descent to the beach. After paying for the entrance, you will need to walk down to the sea for about 15 minutes. It is not very difficult and the road is concrete most of the way. But learn that you have to climb the mountain back. And it won't be so easy anymore. This ascent will take 20-30 minutes with rest stops.

Half of the route is paved. And the other half looks something like this

  • Bring water, snacks, hats, a snorkel mask and sunscreen.
  • The beach will always be crowded because everyone wants to visit here. Therefore, we advise you to come to Freedom Beach as early as possible.
  • If you want to find the beach without people, then around 7-8 am. We arrived around 9.30 and there were still a few people there. The bulk of tourists arrive by noon.
  • The most beautiful sea is from about 10 to 12 am.

So, come in the morning so that by lunchtime you can go on with your business. Well, if you don’t care about people, then calmly hang out on the beach until sunset, after all, the path is not the easiest and the beach is not free. Enjoy. If anyone has been to this beach, write your reviews in the comments. Tell us what you liked, what you didn’t, and how you got there. We read reviews that you can go to Freedom for free. If anyone has such experience, write.

The other part is reserved for a hotel, there are a lot of stones - suitable for those who want to relax in solitude in the lap of nature and stay for a long time. The third is also covered in stones, but there are also a lot of tourists, but despite this, almost all visitors consider Freedom Beach one of the best on the island of Phuket.

As for entertainment, there is plenty of it in this piece of paradise. Phuket, not so much. For those who want to enjoy beautiful views, a stone staircase leads up the hill directly to the observation deck.

If you get bored of sunbathing and swimming, you can sit in a cafe with pleasant music in the southern part of Freedom, or go snorkeling: admire the coral reefs and colorful schools of fish. You can engage in active recreation - playing volleyball or football.

This is Freedom Beach and is definitely worth a visit!

Freedom Beach (sometimes called “Freedom Beach”) is located in a small bay in the southwestern part of the island of Phuket in Thailand.

Despite some inaccessibility, in recent years Freedom Beach, thanks to its picturesqueness and beautiful views, is confidently gaining popularity among tourists, so in the high season it cannot be called quiet and secluded. Although compared to the neighboring very famous, crowded and noisy Patong Beach, the atmosphere at Freedom Beach is still much calmer.

Until recently, there was an entrance fee to Freedom Beach, but this has now been waived and entry is free. Now, next to the descent to the beach, there is only a tent where you can buy water or a coconut, which will not hurt, since there is no commercial infrastructure below, and there is only one cafe among catering establishments.

Characteristics of Freedom Beach

Freedom Beach is covered with fine white sand, comfortable for walking on it and placing directly on a towel or blanket. The water of the Andaman Sea here is transparent and has a beautiful bluish-green hue. Lush tropical greenery comes close to the sandy strip of the beach, adding exoticism and picturesqueness to Freedom Beach along with the cliffs framing the ends of the beach.

The length of Freedom Beach is about 300 meters, the width is up to 30 meters.

In the northern part of the beach there is a small secluded sandy area, about 20 meters in length, separated by boulders, which can be reached by water or through stones.

The entrance to the water on the beach is gentle, the depth increases gradually, after 10 meters you can already swim and dive. The ebb and flow of the tides on the beach are not very pronounced, so they practically do not affect the convenience of relaxation. Due to the fact that the central part of Freedom Beach is usually occupied by boats, vacationers swim mainly closer to the edges of the beach. Due to its location in the bay, Freedom Beach is protected from strong winds and waves, so during the high season (from November to April-May) swimming here is comfortable and safe.

If you want to find the beach deserted, then you need to arrive before 9-11 am, as after that boats from neighboring beaches arrive ashore, and the number of vacationers increases noticeably.

In the evening, Freedom Beach offers magnificent views of the sunset over the sea, which deserve special attention.

Infrastructure

Freedom Beach is equipped with a small number of sun loungers with umbrellas (price for renting a set from 200 baht), installed not on the sandy strip itself, but on an area under palm trees, the rest of the area is provided for free accommodation of visitors (it is worth noting that installing your own umbrellas is prohibited).

In the southern part of the beach there is a cafe where you can order a refreshing drink, have a snack or have a full lunch (the menu mainly includes Asian dishes). It is officially prohibited to bring your own food and drinks to Freedom Beach, however, according to reviews from tourists who have been here, no one really enforces this rule. There are also toilets and showers next to the cafe.

The entertainment infrastructure on the beach is not developed, so the only possible leisure options are snorkeling and diving (by the way, near the shore you can see a large number of bright tropical fish), as well as beach games.

As for places to stay, the beach is a little isolated from the tourist sector, and there are no hotels on its shore (on the first line). However, within a kilometer radius from the coast you can find a sufficient number of options, among which there are hotels (from 3 to 5 stars), spacious villas, and more budget guesthouse rooms.

How to get to Freedom Beach in Phuket

There are several ways to get to Freedom Beach, including options by water and land.

By boat

One of the most convenient options is to get to Freedom Beach by boat from the popular Patong Beach. You can rent a boat at the pier near the Sea View Patong hotel, the round trip fare will be about 1300-2000 baht for the whole boat (accommodating up to 8-10 people). You can also go by boat from the beaches of Karon, Kata and Tri Trang, but this will most likely cost a little more (about 2000-2500 baht).

By rented transport

Another popular method of transportation among tourists in Thailand is renting a motorbike or car. You won’t be able to drive directly to Freedom Beach itself, since the road for transport is located higher (the last section of which, by the way, is not very good - with a gravel surface), and walking paths through the jungle with fairly steep slopes and stairs lead to the coast itself. There are two descents to the beach: one from Patong Beach, the other from Karon Beach.

By taxi

In addition, you can get to the descent to Freedom Beach by taking a taxi (Grab Taxi app) or tuk-tuk. The fare from Patong Beach will be about 250-400 baht.

Video: Freedom Beach in Phuket from different angles

Freedom Beach is located in one of the least accessible areas of Phuket, but, according to tourists, this is the best beach on the island. If you don't want to trek several kilometers through dense jungle, the beach can only be reached by boat. Freedom Beach is a good choice for beach lovers!

The beach is covered with beautiful white sand, which is pleasant to walk on. This place is secluded in a private cove. Freedom Beach looks almost like a picture from a Hollywood movie. It is surrounded by hills covered with dense jungle, and the entire beach looks like an exotic refuge. Unlike many popular beaches, Freedom Beach is constantly taken care of by local residents, which guarantees its preservation in its original form. There are several small restaurants located near the southern end of the beach. Sun loungers located in the shade of coconut trees are also available for rent here.

There are no jet skis or banana boats on Freedom Beach: nothing here will spoil the tranquil atmosphere. The water is divided into northern and southern sectors, reserved for swimming - long ropes stretch from the center of the beach.

Whether you're staying at Patong Beach and want to get away from the crowds, or simply want to enjoy the natural beauty of Phuket, Freedom Beach is a great day out. Enjoy a relaxing holiday lying on a sun lounger in the shade of a palm tree, sipping a cold drink and forget all your problems.

Beach activities

The southern part of Freedom Beach is the best snorkeling spot on the entire island. Dive deeper and you will see a lot of corals and colorful tropical fish. There is also a volleyball court and a pair of football goals - if you want, you can play sports. But the best activity you can indulge in on this beach is to simply lie on your back and sunbathe.

How to get to Freedom Beach

Since the beach is surrounded by private land, the only way to get there is by boat. The easiest way to hire a long-sided boat is from the pier in the area at the southern end of Patong Beach, but this is also the most expensive way - a round trip will cost about 1,500 baht. You can also try to hire a boat at the northern tip of the island - at Karon or Tri Trang beaches, but this will be more difficult. Either way, the boat ride lasts about 15 minutes and you'll pass incredibly beautiful scenery along the way.
