Excursions in Phuket, where you should and should not go. Where to buy excursions in Phuket? What are the best excursions to take in Phuket?

If you are reading this article, then you are probably wondering what to choose and how to navigate the wide variety of excursions offered by travel agencies and operators. Our experience shows that your vacation lasts no more than two weeks, so proper time management is very important.

Map of excursions Thailand->Phuket

What do you need to know? First, look at the map, which shows places to visit. Let's divide the map into four conventional directions (clockwise): server (green), east (orange), south (blue) and west (purple). Remember the main rule: choose no more than two excursions in one direction. If you choose more, you may get bored, since excursions often take place in the same places or places with similar landscapes.

Note that of the four directions, three are sea and one is land. In practice, this means that most excursions are carried out on boats.

Excursions to the islands from Phuket? Where to go?

You can swim and sunbathe wherever you go - both in the south, and in the west or east. How can you decide where to go?

Answer: no way.

Each direction is unique in its own way and does not exclude the others. The question is different, it is important to choose the right sequence so that every subsequent visit will impress you.

If this is your first time in Phuket:

  1. Start from the east direction. You can take separate excursions to James Bond Island, Krabi or Phi Phi, or purchase a two-day tour and visit these islands in one trip - the choice is yours.
  2. After you've taken one or two excursions from the eastern direction, take excursions from the land direction or an excursion that takes place in Phuket itself.
  3. Having rested from the sea and healed your burns, you can again set off to conquer the Andaman Sea. This time - in the other direction. And there are only two such directions left: either to the south or to the west. It all depends on whether you are ready to sail west to the distant islands for beautiful photographs and crystal clear turquoise water. If you are not afraid of the long road and shaking on the boat, then feel free to choose this side. If you prefer a calm and comfortable holiday to beautiful photographs of Western excursions, sail south.

So, an ideal holiday in Phuket looks like this: one or two excursions in the east, one or two in the north, one either in the west or in the south. After each stay there is one day of rest at the hotel. This is the most convenient plan and the so-called backbone, onto which you can add other excursions conducted directly in Phuket - evening shows, spas, sightseeing tours and others.

Very important!

Most sea excursions are prohibited for pregnant women. Be sure to tell us about your situation and do not mislead or hide. Believe me, this is for your own good.

What to see from Phuket?

Let's talk in more detail about excursions in each direction.

Eastern direction. If you sort the excursions in order of intensity of impressions, then the sequence will be like this: , . You can learn more about the islands by following the links.

If you manage to follow the sequence, then each subsequent trip will bring more and more pleasure.

Our advice is to be sure to take one of the excursions from this direction, because it is thanks to them that Phuket is so popular.

South direction. The following islands are located here: , and .

Coral Island has crowds of Chinese and poor service, Maiton Island has good snorkeling and food, and the Racha Islands include snorkeling, good restaurants and good service.

Western Islands. This includes the archipelago, the island of Bon and.

Bon Island is only accessible on liveaboards. It is not visited on regular excursions.

Tachai Island has been closed to the public since 2016, which is a shame, since the whitest sand lies right here.

Only the Similan Islands and the Surin Islands remain accessible for visits. Both destinations can be visited during one vacation. These places are very similar to paradise islands and are very impressive. Decide for yourself what to visit, or consult with our operators at the telephone numbers listed on the website.

Northern direction. This includes everything on the mainland up to 200 km from Phuket, this includes,.

Keep in mind that the Khao Lak and Cheow Lan Lake excursions focus on nature, they partially follow the same roads, and are therefore very similar. Many vacationers make a mistake: first they go to Khao Lak, and on another day to Lake Cheow Lan. And since the beginning of the excursions is the same, many people manage to get bored. We recommend doing this - if you are without children or your children can handle the road well, then definitely go to Cheow Lan Lake, as this is a truly unique and beautiful place in the world. If not, then go to Khao Lak.

Phang Nga is a very beautiful province, the excursion differs from Khao Lak and Khao Sok, so you can always take it.

Excursions to Krabi province are overland and unique in that they emphasis is placed on the culture, temples and customs of the Thai people. As a rule, the most professional guides work here, who know a lot about Thailand and its features.

Rafting is also carried out on the mainland; this is a fairly active excursion in which the landscape is secondary, so it can be combined with any excursion.

How to choose an excursion in Phuket?

Excursions conducted in Phuket itself are very diverse; they can be divided into the following categories:

  • Sightseeing tours
  • Rope parks
  • Quad biking
  • Elephant ride
  • Horseback riding
  • Attractions
  • Cooking courses
  • Shopping tours

Where to go in the evening?

On free evenings you can enjoy a variety of evening shows. How to choose them? There are not so many evening shows that you can get confused.

It's simple - Show Aphrodite and Simon Cabaret are essentially the same, except that in Simon Cabaret the program of performances is a little better and the numbers are fresher.

Fantasia and Siam Niramit are a higher level show. They are quite beautiful and good each in their own way. We recommend: if you are with small children, then choose Fantasy, for adults Siam Niramit.

The XXX show is a show you can attend for a change. There will be something to remember, because there are few places where you can find something like this. Our clients have conflicting impressions. We definitely won’t recommend it; rather, this is a show for those who like “spice.”

Thai boxing. An amateur performance. There is chaos and blood in the ring quite often, the fights are not fake. Here you can also see fighters from the CIS countries who fight for money and represent their clubs.

Coming on vacation to Thailand, any tourist first of all thinks about what to do in his free time from lying on the beach and what excursions to visit in Phuket. In order to somewhat orient you in the diversity of the island’s excursion program, we have prepared prices and descriptions of the main excursion offers. So, Phuket island, excursions, year 2018-2019 - prices and reviews, are you ready? Let's dive...

Before talking about Thailand, the island of Phuket and the excursions that are presented there, you need to understand the issue of purchasing tickets for a trip to a particular attraction, and this can be done in three ways:

  • with a guide at the hotel (suitable for package tourists);
  • in specialized excursion bureaus;
  • via the Internet.

If you purchase a tour through a guide, be prepared to overpay for imaginary safety. Despite the fact that all travel companies insist that purchasing tickets for excursions at local bureaus is dangerous, and only they will create conditions for a safe trip, in fact, you only pay more for the services of a Russian-speaking guide. And so, he will either purchase an excursion in the same way at a local office, or organize it himself.

Prices for online bookings are not much higher; naturally, a commission is charged, but not the same if you book through a tour operator. Excursions to Phuket 2018 and 2019, prices and descriptions will be discussed in this article.

Excursions to the islands

Phuket is, first of all, nature and landscapes, aesthetic pleasure from beautiful views, which means that excursions to the islands will open our short selection.

In the vicinity of Phuket there are a huge number of remote and not so remote islands. Some are the pearl of the area, others simply add to the landscape with their beauty. It’s better to go somewhere during the season (November, December, January, February, March), and somewhere you can go in the summer (June, July, August).

James Bond Island, the Phi Phi Island chain, and, of course, Bounty Island, where the notorious advertisement for the chocolate of the same name was filmed. Truly a heavenly experience.

The excursion program is different and may include several additional options, for each of which you will have to pay extra.

In general terms, the Phi Phi island chain includes six islands, each of which can be visited. The tour includes visits to the islands of Don, Bambuu and Ley (the famous Mayan beach is located here, where the film The Beach was filmed), Mosquito and two rocks Bida Nai and Bida Nok. Description of the excursion

Additionally, you can include in the tour a visit to a cave with sea gypsies (here you can see how swallow’s nests are grown - a gastronomic delicacy), a beach with wild monkeys, a bamboo island (here vacationers are shown a rare plant from the bamboo genus, growing only in this place).

We recommend taking photo and video equipment with you for shooting. And of course, the filming will be carried out by travel agency operators in order to subsequently sell you photographs or a video film.

The price of such a tour starts from 1100 baht per adult and 900 baht per child and ends at 1900/1600, depending on additional options.

If you want to see these islands cheaply, you can simply order a transfer in both directions, without additional excursions, then the price will be 740/680 baht.

James Bond Island

James Bond is a famous movie character, and one of the Bond films was filmed in Thailand. It is to this island that enterprising Thais organize excursions. There are two options for a one-day excursion:

  1. On a boat.
  2. On a speedboat (high-speed boat).

Excursion price: 1300/990 baht - boat and 1600/1400 baht speedboat. Departure at 8 am, return at 18 pm. Budget for the cost of various small transfers to small islands, from 50 to 100 baht per trip (an additional 300-500 baht may be required on average).

There is no cheap option, only as part of an excursion group or a more expensive option - an individual tour.

This excursion operates all year round.

Boat trip to Krabi

The sea voyage towards Krabi province is exciting, as part of it passes through Phang Nga Bay. The excursion is also a one-day excursion and may consist of visiting the five islands of Krabi, as well as Krabi plus James Bond Island.

The Bond program will be shortened, as there will be less time to visit all the places. We recommend taking several excursions on different days.

As for the Krabi Islands, the excursion includes visiting, walking and swimming on the islands of Kai, Talay Waek, Railay Po Da, as well as the famous Phang Nga Cave. In addition, tourists will see the Bay of a Thousand Fishes (the snow-white sand and crystal clear water will not leave anyone indifferent) and the Fertility Cave (which will be of interest to girls).

Current cost of the excursion Excursion starts at 7.00 and ends at 18.30

Island of Racha (or Paradise)

A typical day trip includes visits to two to four islands (Bag Nu, Payu, Miang and Similan).
The tour program includes snorkeling and diving, and diving is taken out separately, since for Similan this is a special type of entertainment. The rich underwater world is amazing and you want to come here again and again.

Excursions are conducted from October to May (out of season from June to September it is problematic to get there).

Tourists will visit during the day:

  1. Naka Yai.
  2. Naka Noi.
  3. Ko Kai.
  4. Kai Nui.
  5. Kai Nok.

A kind of classic excursion.

  • rafting + riding both elephants and ATVs.

There is also a fourth option, but it only involves riding elephants and quad bikes, without rafting down a mountain river. In any case, during this excursion tourists will visit the monkey temple in Phuket.

Cost: with elephants - 1400/1100, with ATVs - 1750/1500, with everything together - 2100/1850, without rafting - 1750/1500.

This pleasure costs 1300/900 baht + additional fee for one-way transfer 250 baht, round trip - 400 baht.

Underwater motorcycles

For those tourists who have never dived to the bottom of the sea with scuba diving, but desperately want to try it in Phuket, there is an excursion - an underwater motorcycle. This is a kind of preparatory exercise before the real dive. It is usually carried out near a coral island.

After riding a motorcycle, you can try a real dive, respectively, for a fee.

Cost: 3 thousand baht.

Horseback riding

In addition to elephant riding, which is standard for Asia, horseback riding along the beach is organized here. As a rule, all routes are laid out near the sea, so if you like romance, we recommend taking this excursion in Phuket in the late afternoon, fortunately there are many options (walks last from an hour to two).

In addition to the stretched track, there are many cables, labyrinths, and rope ladders. In general, you won't be bored.

Cost: 2500/2300 baht

Quest game “Chamber of Secrets”

An inexpensive and interesting option for spending time, which is gradually taking over the entire planet. The essence of the game is simple - you are locked in a room from which you need to get out in one hour or its doors will never open again. There are several plots on which the game is built. In the quest, players will have to solve puzzles and learn the limits of their own fear (if you dare to take on a horror quest).

Overall a pretty good way to relax.

The program includes lunch and cooking from freshly caught fish. All gear is provided to the fishermen on the spot; there is no need to bring anything with you from Russia.

There are group and individual fishing, but the second option is 10–15 times more expensive, since the same equipment is used as in the group option.

Cost: 120-29,000 baht.

Fishing with sea gypsies

Any traveler who has ever been on an excursion to Phuket or the islands has seen the indigenous people of Thailand, who are called sea gypsies. This nation is engaged in catching fish and then selling it at fish markets.

The opportunity to participate in fishing with sea gypsies is not something exclusive, as travel agents try to make it out to be. The excursion involves fishing by trawling. At the end of fishing, you will be fed with dishes made from this fish and taken to hotels.

Cost: 3 thousand baht.

Lake fishing

In Khao Lak, everywhere you look you can see rare birds and enjoy their singing. If desired, you can expand the standard program to include a visit to a turtle farm, a tsunami monument and a visit to a tropical village with a mini zoo.

Cost: 1100/900 baht - standard package, 2500/1800 - extended version.

The tour programs are practically the same, with the exception of some additional options. So, in Khao Sok there is no opportunity to visit a tropical village, but there is a monkey temple, a visit to which is the first on the program.

Next, tourists will be taken on an elephant ride, fed in a restaurant and taken on a raft or canoe along the river.

Advice - do not stand upright on the canoe, as this can be dangerous for other passengers.

Cost: 1800/1400 baht.

If you take not a one-day, but a two-day excursion, then the program will include Lake Cheow Lan, which is the largest lake in Thailand. Tourists will be able to ride along it on homemade rafts and boats. The magnificent nature around the lake will not leave any traveler indifferent.

The cost of such a trip will be much more expensive, from 5,500 baht per person.

Krabi (land)

The map of attractions in Thailand is huge. There is something to see both on water and on land. Krabi province is one of these places. If you have seen its sights on the water, it will be interesting to see what is so mysterious and mysterious about Krabi on land.

In one day, tourists will visit the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Suvankhua Cave and the mangrove forest. A Russian-speaking guide will tell you the history of these places and show you where the big-headed spirit lives.

Travel is worth the money, but don't forget about small expenses on the road and on site; a few small bills won't hurt.

Cost: 2500/2150 baht

Tiger Kingdom

Exclusive, from the point of view of the excursion program, is the Tiger Kingdom park. This is a place where you can interact with real tigers, from small cubs to adults. You are allowed to stay in the enclosure for no more than 15 minutes, during which time you can take pictures with the animals, pet them, and even play a little with the smallest ones.

Finding a common language with older animals will be more difficult, but there is no reason to worry, since a trainer is always with you in the enclosure.

A portion of ticket proceeds goes towards supporting the tiger population in Thailand, so you'll be helping out in addition to satisfying your curiosity.

Phang Nga Bay, Krabi Islands, Lanta and Phi Phi Islands

Another variation of island travel. In fact, this excursion is a reproduction in a different order of the islands that can be visited during a trip to the province of Krabi or to the 11 islands. It also has its own subtleties, this is undoubtedly, for example, a diamond cave, a Viking cave, a fire show, etc.

Cost: 6500 baht.

  • royal palace;
  • several temples (Emerald Buddha, Reclining Buddha, );

  1. Cambodia.
  2. Singapore.
  3. Malaysia.
  4. Vietnam (Nha Trang).
  5. Madagascar.

Each country has certain requirements for crossing the border. For example, Cambodian law, unlike Singaporean law, is more loyal to tourists. It is better to further clarify with your guide all the details of the trip.

It is also worth remembering that a telephone in another country is an increased source of danger for your budget; it is better to arrange for roaming in advance.

The cost starts from $300 and can reach $1 thousand.

Individual tours

For certain categories of tourists, excursions can be organized that are not popular because they are expensive. For example, a trip to Thung Yai or Huay Khac nature reserves, which are famous for their magnificent landscapes and the habitat of some rare animals.

So, excursions in Phuket are a whole book that you can write about for quite a long time, it’s better to come yourself and try to read it... Don’t forget to share your impressions in the comments.

Phuket has long established itself among travelers from all over the world as an excellent summer vacation destination. In addition to relaxing on the beach, while relaxing at the resort, you can see many interesting places - there will always be something to do, no matter what kind of holiday you prefer. What excursions are worth visiting in Phuket? Here are the best of them.

Six picturesque islands are located between Phuket and the mainland. Only one of them is inhabited, the main one is Phi Phi Don, the island of Phi Phi Ley is also considered large, and the other four pieces of land are very small. Excursion programs to these paradises are variable even in the choice of vehicle: for example, you can choose a refreshing trip on a speedboat, while others will prefer a leisurely canoe.

What does a standard excursion to the Phi Phi Islands include? Lots of unforgettable entertainment:

  1. Stop for swimming in the clearest waters and a photo shoot against the backdrop of snow-white sand.
  2. Water sports: snorkeling is suitable even for beginners, diving will allow you to explore the world of coral reefs and underwater caves, and someone might want to go fishing. Even those who have extensive experience in this type of recreation will enjoy scuba diving: the islands have a large diving center, the underwater landscape and abundance of marine life will make an underwater walk interesting, and in the waters you can dive to a sunken ferry and ship.
  3. Visit Monkey Beach on Phi Phi Don Island. It is worth knowing that this place is popular among tourists, so meeting the monkeys will probably take place in a crowd. But for those vacationing with children, they will definitely remember it.
  4. Walk along Maya Bay on Phi Phi Ley island. The place is famous for the fact that scenes from the movie “The Beach” were filmed here.
  5. Lunch at a beach restaurant - the excursion, as a rule, lasts the whole day, and therefore tourists have time to get hungry.

The approximate price of such an excursion is 3,100 baht per adult and 2,000 baht per child.

Khao Sok National Park

The area is one of the best nature reserves in the country. Rain forests, steep limestone cliffs and unusual karst caves will delight anyone who likes the exotic. There are also “living attractions”: rafflesia flowers, gibbons, hornbills. A visit to Khao Sok means taking a break from the hustle and bustle of resort entertainment for a day or two and plunging into the world of pristine nature.

The highlight of this trip will be a stop at Cheow Lan Lake. It was formed as a result of human activity, but looks wild, surrounded by mountains and jungle. Some excursions include an overnight stay in a hut on the shore of a reservoir - an opportunity to merge with the world in harmony, and in the morning, after resting, ride a kayak and plunge into a hot spring.

Optionally, such an offer may also include:

  • elephant riding;
  • visiting a fruit market;
  • fishing or rafting;
  • walk to Buddhist sanctuaries.

As a rule, the offer includes quite decent food (1st day: lunch, 2nd day: breakfast + lunch + tea). The two-day offer costs approximately 5,200 baht per adult and 4,200 baht per child.

Up to 30 platforms, air bridges, nets stretched over the jungle - and the most exciting thing is flying from tree to tree, as monkeys do (which is why the program got its name).

Warning: For your own safety, you should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. It is strictly forbidden to visit the rope park in such an outfit that could cause injury.

It should be noted that this attraction is completely safe when used correctly. Instructors carefully monitor the “safety” of the guests of the rope park; all equipment is regularly checked.

The cost of such an excursion varies depending on the number of locations: from 2000 to 2900 baht.

Siam Niramit Park and Performance

One of the largest shows in the world is held in Bangkok and Phuket. Such an excursion includes, firstly, a visit to a Thai village, built with the aim of getting to know the local culture, cuisine and crafts.

Sightseeing tour of Phuket

You can go to a large number of places from the island, but there is also something to see on the island itself, and you should not neglect this if you have reached Phuket for the first time. The highlight of the program is usually a visit to Wat Chalong. This Buddhist sanctuary was built approximately 150 years ago. It is located in the south of the resort area. Tourists are only allowed to view the main temple from the outside, but you can look into other buildings of the complex.

Another grandiose structure that can be viewed up close is the Big Buddha statue. Pilgrims and ordinary travelers flock here equally.

In addition to getting acquainted with Thai architecture, there will be an opportunity to climb to several observation platforms, among which Kata Karon stands out. From above you can see three picturesque beaches and take photographs for memory.

The cost of a sightseeing tour will be approximately 1,600 baht per adult and 1,000 baht per child for a full day, the price for half a day depends on the chosen program.

  • visiting a temple where monkeys live;
  • inspection of the floating village;
  • walks along beaches and caves.

This excursion traditionally includes lunch - an introduction to local cuisine. Another option to see the beauty of Phang Nga is a romantic sailing boat ride enjoying the view of the sunset.

The cost of the excursion is approximately 2100 baht.

Flight to Singapore

You don’t have to limit yourself to Thailand – you can also go to a neighboring country. Singapore is a prosperous Asian country where national flavor and modern rhythm are intertwined. A tour from Phuket usually lasts two days. The program includes:

Phuket has many options to spend your time. Active recreation, solitude in nature, exploring architecture and even visiting other countries - the more impressions, the richer the trip!

British scientists say that a couple of days spent on active travel gives better quality rest than a week of doing nothing on the most heavenly beach. The good thing about the theory is that everyone can test it for themselves. And excursions in Phuket are definitely worth trying!

But we still need to figure out which of the more than 50 tours offered at the resort should be booked first. We present to your attention the 10 best ways to spend time in Phuket!

Travel to the islands by speedboat

Traveling gives you the opportunity to feel like a movie character like those who ended up in the Blue Lagoon or on the island in the movie “Sex for Survival.” The difference is that the guides will not let you get lost.

And you will see more - the boat takes you to several islands of the Phi Phi archipelago at once.

The main advantage of a high-speed ship is that you quickly and with pleasure get to the attraction. And along the way you can swim in the crystal clear waters between the islands, looking at the colorful corals.

Sea kayaking in Phang Nga Bay

Kayaking in Phang Nga will show you what you can't see from land. The ship is like a motorcycle in the city, able to overcome traffic that a passenger car cannot. The kayak goes into the narrowest channels that are inaccessible to a speedboat or ordinary boat. And this guarantees fantastic views of untouched nature - amazing limestone islands and caves. You will visit the best places: Hong and Panak Islands, as well as the famous James Bond Island.

Express Ferry to Phi Phi Le

An express ferry is the optimal transport to reach the beautiful island paradise between Phuket and Krabi.

The trip itself is - fortunately or vice versa - short. But you will have time to enjoy the views of the Andaman Sea and try food and soft drinks (by the way, included in the tour price).

Phi Phi Le is a real movie island! The filming location for the thriller “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio was its bays and the beach of Maya Bay. This is where the ferry drops off guests.

On the islands you can enjoy white sandy beaches, swimming and diving. The underwater world here is beautiful!

Speedboat ride to Coral and Racha islands

Coral Island and Koh Racha are another destination for tourists who want to view the azure waters and other beauties of the Andaman Sea.

These two islands are not inhabited by people, but they are replete with opportunities for entertainment - you will be offered diving, banana boat rides or parasailing, and simply enjoying the sun while lying on the warm shore. The boat departs from the pier in Phuket to Ko Racha, and then takes you to Coral Island.

Travel experts assure you that you won't want to get on a boat again to return to Phuket from these blessed patches of land!

Bike tour along the coast of Yao Noi island

Koh Yao Noi is an island near Phuket. If, upon arriving here, you go on a two-wheeled ride, you will see fishing villages, green rice fields, unique mosques, and tropical jungles.

You will be provided with a bike and helmet, and then you will travel 30 km safely. You can’t see these places from a boat, it’s inconvenient to watch them from a car, but on a bike it’s just right. Moreover, along the way there will be an opportunity to stop for lunch and talk with local residents.

A day in Phang Nga Bay

Going to the islands of the province for the whole day will repeat the James Bond experience. It was here that episodes of “The Man with the Golden Gun” and “Tomorrow Never Dies” were filmed.

There are plenty of little stops along the way to take in views worthy of Hollywood. The trip includes a visit to the Suwankuha Temple, home to monkeys and a huge golden Buddha statue. You will also visit the spectacular floating village of Koh Panyee, where you will be treated to a delicious lunch. And of course, explore some beautiful beaches and mysterious caves.

Rafting in Phang Nga Province

You will find yourself among the steep rapids of the Nga River in the Ton Pariwat Wildlife Sanctuary. The trip is not easy and requires some stamina.

But thanks to the adrenaline, you will be alert enough to also see the local rubber plantation!

There are no strict age restrictions for rafting in Phang Nga: children from 6 to 15 years old go rafting accompanied by adults, and everyone older goes on their own. The tour ends with a swim in a local waterfall.

Excursion around Phuket

It starts in the southern part of the island - the focus of the best views and structures of its capital.

You can experience the history and culture of the country by visiting one of Phuket's most majestic sanctuaries - Wat Chalong - as well as Promthep Cape and Kata Viewpoint.

The excursion lasts half a day. This is a must see for those who like to learn as much as possible about new places!

Walk around Phuket Old Town

A walk through old Phuket Town gives a lot of emotions, and after it there is a lot of free time! Historical markets, stately mansions, ancient buildings that are still inhabited by locals will allow you to experience the city's way of life. And the floating market, which you will also visit, is called by many tourists “a guide to understanding the spirit of Thailand.”

In addition, you will visit the first hotel of the Old Town, stroll through the charming streets with Chinese-Portuguese architecture, see the famous Baan Chinpracha House, the Tai Hua Chinese Museum, and the Phuket Museum in a building built back in 1929.

For complete immersion, order local tea and traditional Thai dishes at one of the city's restaurants.

No souvenir will give you as great emotions as a trip to sunny Thailand! Get on the road!

Excursions in Phuket can take up the entire time of your vacation on this wonderful island; their diversity will surprise even an experienced tourist, and new ones appear every year. Once again, arriving in Phuket, I am surprised how much the list of excursions in street shops has expanded. We must pay tribute to Thai marketers; they manage to “sell” the same place several times. For example, Phi Phi Island (which you can get to on your own) is sold in several excursion programs at once, they have different names and the program is slightly different, but the highlight is Phi Phi Island.

What excursion programs are there in Phuket?

Excursions in Phuket can be divided into several groups: by duration (several hours, for the whole day, for 2 days), by type of entertainment (nature, show, extreme, culture, etc.). The main excursions in Phuket are natural attractions, of which there are a lot on the island and around.

  • natural - islands, beaches, caves, national parks, zoo, lakes, waterfalls, etc.;
  • gastronomic - many cafes and restaurants, markets and street make-up shops, lessons and master classes on preparing Thai food, etc.;
  • theatrical - there are several quite decent show programs on the island (which you can attend with children), there are also many shows for adults;
  • extreme - bungee jumping, zipline in the jungle (flying on a cable), diving, wakeboarding and other extreme entertainment;
  • cultural - there are several temples in the nearest provinces; such trips provide an opportunity to glimpse the life of local peasants;
  • from local residents - these are very exciting author's tours, but unfortunately the choice is not very large, all the details on author's tours in Phuket.

Where can I buy excursions?

Excursions in Phuket are always a lottery (in the good sense of the word), their quality largely depends on the guide, and not on the place where you bought it. All recommendations like “buy only from such and such a travel company” do not stand up to criticism, and even the most reliable companies make mistakes, and if a good guide worked for this company last season, then there is no guarantee that he continues to work there today.

There are several standard purchasing methods:

  • via the Internet - a very convenient and reliable way to save time and be sure that everything will be at the highest level, you are still at home (in a calm environment), choose excursions (plan your time on vacation), order for a certain time, pay and enjoy. The most interesting excursions in Phuket can be booked online using this link;
  • from your tour operator - most package tourists buy from their hotel guides, often making decisions about purchasing excursions within an hour (during your hotel guide's meeting with you). For many tourists, harsh pressure and all sorts of “scares” from the hotel guide can cause them to buy programs that are not the ones they originally wanted;
  • in a street tourist shop - those who have been vacationing in Phuket for several seasons tend to buy in street tourist shops. Buying tours in street shops is much cheaper, but there are several peculiarities: there may be an English-speaking guide, sometimes there are problems due to “difficulties in translation” (the most common is when a tourist does not correctly understand the pick-up time from the hotel), there is no insurance for the duration of the tour. I recommend that you read about why you need travel insurance in the post “Insurance for traveling abroad.”

Sights of Phuket and excursions around them

Beaches

A special pride and attraction of Phuket are its wonderful beaches; it is the beaches that bring tourists from all over the world to Phuket. All the beaches on the island are unique, some are crowded and touristy, others are deserted and almost wild, they are all different from each other.

The following beaches are a must visit:

  • Nai Yang;
  • Mai Khao;
  • Patong;
  • Kata Noi;
  • Nayharn;
  • Karon;
  • Surin;
  • Kata.

Observation platforms

Tourists are taken to some observation decks as part of an excursion, while some are accessible only to independent travelers and are also a landmark of the island. There are many viewing platforms in Phuket, everyone can choose their own and come here to watch the sunset. I really like to look at the sun sinking into the ocean on the observation deck at Big Buddha, but it’s noisy here, there are a lot of tourists, but they don’t really watch the sunset and sometimes you’re left almost alone (the local flock of monkeys doesn’t count).

The following observation decks are a must-see:

  • on Karon;
  • in the Phuket Town area;
  • in the southeast of Phuket;
  • next to Big Buddha.

Markets

Another attraction of Phuket is the markets. Despite the apparent spontaneity, all markets in Phuket obey simple and understandable rules. For example, if the market is evening, then you will never see that it is traded during the day.

Since I try to live near Patong, my favorite market is the Patong evening market, it is located opposite the boxing ring and begins its work after sunset. In general, markets in Thailand (and throughout Southeast Asia) are a mix of food, communication, entertainment and trading in everything that can be sold.

The following markets are a must visit:

  • in Patong, next to the boxing ring;
  • in Phuket Town - there are no tourists here, but there are good prices.

Sightseeing tour of Phuket

Most package tourists who come to Phuket already have (paid for) a free tour of the island, so if you want, go and see what they show you on it. For everyone else, if you have a lot of free time, and they offer you a sightseeing tour for free, then why not go.

The main objective of a sightseeing tour is the following: to take tourists to the maximum possible retail outlets, in the hope that tourists will buy as many goods as possible there.

Exploring Phuket on your own

Many excursions in Phuket can be organized independently, it all depends on time (sometimes independent trips around the island take a little more time), desire and perseverance.

The simplest and most accessible excursions for most tourists are to explore the island on a rented moped. Rent of bikes in Phuket is carried out at every step, you should remember that there are some mandatory rules: be sure to use a helmet - this is in your interests, ideally you should have an international driving license, do not drink and drive, and in which.

If you don’t want to ride around the island on a bike, you can get around Phuket by public buses - songthaews. The fare is 20 - 30 baht, the buses are very slow and their traffic pattern is not very convenient. However, from Patong you can independently and quite quickly (30 - 40 minutes) get to the famous market in Phuket Town. About the Thai baht exchange rate, read the link.

I can’t imagine why a guide is needed on the night street “Bangla Road” or why take a tour to visit the magnificent beaches, and what kind of excursion could there be to watch the sunset on Big Buddha Hill? All these attractions can be explored on your own.

Elephant excursion

An elephant excursion is the same as going to the sea and not taking a swim. You can find elephants on the island either independently or as part of a tourist group. If we talk about excursions, the brightest one that includes elephants is a tour to Khao Lak National Park

If you want to ride elephants on your own, then you should go to Big Buddha and halfway you will find elephants in huge numbers.

Excursions in Phuket for tourists with children

For tourists with children, you can choose one of the many excursion programs presented; almost all of them will be interesting for children, with the exception of shows for adults (however, not all adults like these shows).

You should take into account the age of your child and know approximately what he might like; here is an approximate list of excursions on which children will be interested:

  • elephant riding;
  • ATV riding (with parents);
  • visit to the zoo;
  • communication with wild monkeys;
  • a trip to the bird park;
  • a trip to the butterfly park;
  • a trip to the aquarium.

The best excursions in Phuket

It’s difficult to say which excursions in Phuket can be called bad, but you can single out several at once and say “Everyone should see this.” I will not talk about excursions for which you need to specially prepare (diving, bungee jumping, etc.), but I will try to give information about the best (according to the tourists themselves) for the average tourist.

Excursion to Phi Phi from Phuket

An excursion to Phi Phi includes visits to several islands that are part of the Phi Phi archipelago. The largest and most inhabited island of Phi Phi Don is located forty kilometers from Phuket, where you can spend the night and eat. The island of Phi Phi Le, famous from the film “The Beach,” on whose delightfully beautiful beach (Maya Bay) scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio were filmed, is a delightfully beautiful place.

The program of a two-day excursion to Phi Phi includes several stops for snorkeling, a visit to the islands of Phi Phi Le, Phi Phi Don (overnight and evening fire show), a visit to the island of wild monkeys, a visit to the village of sea gypsies, snorkeling.

The price of an excursion to the Phi Phi Islands starts from 3,000 baht.

The Similan Islands are the pride of Phuket; I recommend visiting them to every tourist who travels to Thailand for natural beauty. The Similan Islands are a protected national park, they are located one hundred kilometers from Phuket, so the journey by speed boat can be very tiring and for this reason, I recommend taking two-day tours (you will get very tired from the road in one day).

The Similan Islands are a chain of nine tropical islands, some of which are uninhabited, the underwater world around the Similan Islands is rich in life in all its forms. The Similan Islands are a favorite destination for divers from all over the world; their diving boats can be seen in the roadstead near the islands. For accommodation on the islands there is a tent camp (the most budget option), there are several very simple bungalows and that’s all.

The price of an excursion to the Similan Islands starts from 5,000 baht.

Excursion 11 islands of Phuket

The 11 Islands Tour is a "unique selling proposition" (in a good way) from the Thai tourism industry, sometimes the name of this tour may be changed (11 Islands, or 3 IN 1, or 3 Andaman Pearls, etc.), but the program they have about the same. The 11 islands excursion program is designed in such a way that you can save time, money, and the quality will not suffer (this happens rarely, but this is exactly the case).

11 Islands includes visiting several famous places near Phuket: James Bond Island, islands in Krabi province, Phi Phi Islands with an overnight stay on Phi Phi Don Island and an evening fire show, and the next day you will find the beauty of Phi Phi Le Island, monkeys and a magnificent beach on Bamboo Island with the opportunity to snorkel.

The price of the 11 Islands excursion starts from 3,500 baht.

Boat excursions from Phuket

Most Phuket excursions are related to the sea; boat trips and other water activities are very popular here. It is almost impossible to describe all possible variations of sea excursions, but I simply have to tell you about the most interesting ones (those that were not included in the “Best excursions in Phuket” section). Most of them involve stops for snorkeling; you will be given everything you need, but it is advisable to have your own diving mask (the free one did not work for me).

Racha Island

Racha Island is ideal for beginner divers; there are excellent dive sites for this. Local dive schools often conduct diver training in the waters of Racha Island. A little away from the divers, tourists can engage in sea fishing.

The island of Racha has several calm beaches, the coastal waters of which are pleasant for snorkeling. From Phuket to Racha Island it is a little more than 10 kilometers, which is about twenty minutes by speedboat.

The price of an excursion to Racha Island starts from 1,000 baht.

Surin Islands

The Surin archipelago consists of five islands, which are united into one reserve. A special pride of the Surin Islands is the world famous dive site - Richelieu Rock. The coastal waters of the Surin archipelago boast a variety of living corals and other marine reptiles, which, having learned about the state’s protection of this place, emigrate here in entire colonies.

The price of an excursion to the Surin Islands starts from 2,500 baht.

Tachai Island

I recommend to all lovers of underwater and surface beauty to see Tachai Island in person. This is where you can dive next to turtles and harmless leopard sharks (the shark species may be different, but they are quite friendly). The program includes snorkeling and relaxation on the island.

Not many tourists have visited this island, so the beach on the eastern side looks pristine, hurry up - soon there will be crowds of Chinese tourists here.

The price of an excursion to Tachai Island starts from 2,500 baht.

Khai Islands

The Khai Islands are ideal for those who are fans of beach holidays; the beaches here are simply ideal (what other beaches could there be in Thailand?). The chain of three islands is very close to Phuket, so the journey is very short.

The price of an excursion to the Khai Islands starts from 1,000 baht.

Coral island

Coral Island is located 10 kilometers from Phuket, where you can spend a whole day doing nothing. Meals and drinks during the tour are included in the price of the trip.

The price of an excursion to Coral Island starts from 900 baht.

Maiton Private Island

The island is located 20 minutes by speedboat from Phuket. A special feature of Maithon Island is its privacy. In 1993, by royal decree, Maiton Island was transferred to the ownership of a Korean entrepreneur, at the same time the island was closed to tourists. Today, the permitted number of tourists who can visit the island is 150 people per day.

On an excursion from Phuket to Cambodia, you can go on an excursion program (check prices on site), which includes a visit to the most interesting Cambodian temples in the Angkor temple complex. You will see Tonle Sap Lake, the largest lake in Southeast Asia, which is located near the city of Siem Reap. Lake Tonle Sap has a unique feature: several times a year the current in this lake changes its direction.

The price of an excursion to Cambodia starts from 300 US dollars .

Excursion to Malaysia from Phuket

An excursion to Malaysia can be organized either independently or as part of an excursion group. Phuket Kuala Lumpur excursion includes a visit to the Petronas Towers, a walk around Kuala Lumpur, the Sultan's Istana Negara Palace and free time.

An excursion to Malaysia is considered one of the popular excursions from Phuket, here are some facts:

  • by plane to Malaysia just over an hour;
  • the world's largest outdoor bird park;
  • the tallest twin towers;
  • the local TV tower is among the top 5 tallest buildings in the world;
  • the world's tallest national flag, installed in Merdeka Square;
  • the only monarchy in the world where the monarch is elected;
  • The world's tallest statue of the Hindu god Muruga.

The price of an excursion to Malaysia from Phuket starts from 300 US dollars.
