Loo why is it called that? Holidays by the sea in Loo: description, features, how to get there. What to see in Loo on vacation by the sea. Holidays in Loo by the sea: what to see

This picturesque village is well known to many vacationers who came to the Krasnodar region from different parts of the former USSR. For those who like to relax on the Russian Black Sea coast, there is no need to explain where the Loo resort is located. And for those who don’t know yet, let’s clarify: the village is located in the Lazarevsky district of Greater Sochi, in the Krasnodar Territory. It stretches for almost six kilometers along the Black Sea coast and has long become a favorite vacation spot for people who prefer peace, not too crowded beaches and comfortable living conditions.

History of the resort

Today, Russian Black Sea resorts are actively developing. Loo is one of the most visited of them. Local residents pronounce the name of the village with an emphasis on the last letter, and in connection with this they tell a legend. It says that “loo” is a derivative of the name of the largest clan of Abazas, which owned these territories in the 13th-14th centuries. It sounded like “Low”, “Lau”, and possibly “Loovy”. Accordingly, the village began to be called Loo - the land of Loova.

Ethnographers claim that the first settlements on these lands appeared about five thousand years ago. This is confirmed by the man-made ancient dolmen, which is located on the territory of the Lazarevsky district. At different times, ancient Romans, Arabs, Hellenes, Turks, Genoese and Byzantines lived here. In the 6th century, these territories became part of Byzantium, which brought Christianity to the local pagans. The history of Loo can be traced through the sights, of which there are many in the village.

At the beginning of the last century, the village gradually began to expand its borders towards Adyghe villages. But at that time, malaria was rampant here and Europeans were in no hurry to settle in these amazing places. The Adygs and Ubykhs, the aborigines of these lands, have been famous since ancient times for their longevity, provided that they did not die from malaria in childhood. This disease was finally defeated only after the 1917 revolution.

In the early sixties of the 20th century, Lazarevskoye, as well as the Loo resort and all surrounding areas, became Soviet resorts. Active construction of hotels, health resorts, holiday homes and sanatoriums began in the village. It should be noted that the development and improvement of Loo in the Krasnodar Territory continues today.

What is attractive about the village?

The basis of Loo's economy is the resort industry. Therefore, almost the entire coast is built up with boarding houses, mini-hotels and sanatoriums. On the territory of the resort there are about two hundred guest houses, boarding houses and recreation centers. Couples with small children and older people like to relax in Loo. In other words, those who avoid noise and busy leisure activities.

At the same time, the infrastructure of the Loo resort will not let young people get bored. They can visit cozy cafe-bars, have fun in nightclubs and discos. Loo is a year-round resort. The swimming season here lasts from April to October; during the rest of the year, medical, health and excursion tourism is popular. Loo in the Krasnodar Territory opens the high season in early June. And it continues until the end of September.

The Loo water area seems to have been created by nature itself for various water procedures, entertainment and diving. Local silt mud and mineral waters are used in the village's sanatoriums.

Resort Features

The village of Loo is distinguished by a variety of recreational activities. Every tourist can choose exactly what he likes. A beach holiday is perfectly combined with serious, and most importantly, high-quality treatment and educational and excursion tourism. It is this opportunity that attracts many vacationers here.

The healing air of the Loo resort (reviews from tourists confirm this) is saturated with oxygen, sodium chloride, calcium, bromine and magnesium salts. There are also hydrogen sulfide mineral springs here. Highly qualified medical personnel work in boarding houses and sanatoriums equipped with modern equipment. People suffering from diseases of the nervous and circulatory systems, musculoskeletal system, gastrointestinal tract and respiratory organs come to Loo.

Loo beaches

Naturally, the description of the Loo resort will be incomplete if we do not tell you about the beaches of the village. They are record holders for width (up to 90 meters) and quality of relaxation. Since the resort is stretched along the coast, its western part is a continuous area of beaches with small pebbles, which in some places alternates with belts of sand.

The main beach of the village is Central. It is equipped with showers, lifeguard stations, and rental stations. Here you can choose from a variety of water activities: parachute and banana flights, catamarans and others.

The pride of local residents is the two-tier pier located on this beach, extending 150 meters into the sea. From here boats depart for boat trips, and lovers of “quiet hunting” go fishing. At night, the beach is illuminated with colored spotlights. Let's not hide that in the summer season (during the daytime) it is very crowded. But this does not at all bother those vacationers who are alien to vanity and noise. There are many other beaches in the village - paid, wild and even its own nudist one.

Their division in the village is conditional - there are no fences, only natural obstacles, for example, a rock or a natural bend in the coast. The half-kilometer pebble strip near the Magadan sanatorium is very comfortable, and the beaches and “Mountain Air” and “Dolphin” are cozy and attract a small number of vacationers. The section of coast adjacent to the mountain range is called wild. Here, on the bank protection dam, tourists love to leave autographs. Despite the name, relaxing here is quite comfortable: there are much fewer people here than on Central Beach.

Sights of the Loo resort: Church of the Apostle Simon the Canaanite

The temple was built quite recently. In 2017, he turned only eighteen years old since the formation of the religious community. Despite this, in 2009 it already underwent reconstruction according to the project of F. I. Afuksenidi. The combination of Baroque and Art Nouveau architectural styles, colorful frescoes - all this attracts resort guests.

Open air museum

A small museum that displays exhibits telling about the life of Armenians more than a hundred years ago. The complex is located in a picturesque location near the Loo River. Tourists can see a water mill in working order, a reconstructed wooden house (saklya), as well as household items. There are trout in the river that you can feed.

Waterfall "Paradise Delight"

A small waterfall surrounded by perennial trees and hanging bridges will enchant tourists. Not far from this place there is a cozy restaurant where tired travelers can have a tasty snack after a walk. And just downstream there is a small lake with crystal clear cool water, where it is so pleasant to cool off in the hot season.

"Tea houses"

They are located towards the village of Uch-Dere and were built on mountain slopes in the seventies of the last century. Previously, only foreign guests were received here. Today, several cafes operate in cozy houses.

On its territory there are eight slides of varying lengths, two children's areas, playgrounds, and five freshwater swimming pools. There is also a closed area, so the water park operates in winter. A nice bonus for guests will be a free food station. On the second floor of the complex there are several saunas and a huge swimming pool with geysers.

Holidays in Loo.
The village of Loo (Adyghe. Leup, Abaz. Loo) is located on the Black Sea coast, at the mouth of the Loo river of the same name, in the Lazarevsky district of the “resort city of Sochi” in the Krasnodar Territory. Loo is located in a narrow coastal valley and is surrounded on three sides by mountains and ridges. The terrain in the village is predominantly hilly. Average altitudes are about 30 meters above sea level. The absolute height in the vicinity of the village reaches 308 meters above sea level. All this is the territory of the Sochi National Park and the Caucasus Nature Reserve.

Loo's main advantage is its location and natural resources. The village stretches along the sea and magnificent wide pebble beaches, while most other villages on the coast move away from the sea along river valleys towards the mountains. Loo borders with the settlements: Nizhnyaya Khobza in the north-west, Gornoe Loo in the north-east and Kuchuk-Dere in the south-east. The main economic sectors in the village are tourism. Loo is one of the largest resort areas on the Black Sea coast of Russia.

History of Loo. The name of the village of Loo comes from the name of the largest Abaza feudal family Lau or Low (Loovy), who, during the period of greatest prosperity of the Abkhaz principality, owned these territories.
In the mountains near Loo, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, the ruins of a medieval Byzantine temple of the 8th-9th centuries have been preserved. The northern wall of the building, made of limestone blocks, is better preserved in it. The width of the temple is 11 meters, length - 20 meters, the thickness of the walls exceeds one meter. By the nature of the masonry, the temple is close to the Pitsunda and Lykhny temples in Abkhazia (see Loo temple).
Until 1864, Ubykhs from the Vardane community lived in the Loo River valley. Before the start of the Muhajir era, at the mouth of the river on the seashore there was the village of Ismail Barakay Dzepsha, one of the Ubykh leaders during the Caucasian War. After the end of the Caucasian War, the entire local population was deported to the Ottoman Empire for their unwillingness to obey the heterodox Russian Tsar. As a result, the Loo River valley was deserted for several years.
Since 1872, Russian, Armenian and Greek settlers began to populate the Loo River basin. The territory itself was included by the Russian emperor in the Vardane estate, which belonged to Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich.
Until the 1920s, the village of Loo was part of the Sochi district of the Black Sea province.
In 1923, the village was included in the Adler district. Then in 1945 it was transferred to the Lazarevsky district.
On February 10, 1961, the village of Loo was included in the resort city of Sochi, with the status of an intracity microdistrict assigned to the settlement.
On August 7, 2008, a terrorist attack occurred on Loo Beach, as a result of which two people were killed and 15 were injured, eight more people were hospitalized. The explosion of an unidentified explosive device occurred on the city beach at 10:10 Moscow time.

The climate in Loo is humid subtropical. The average annual air temperature is around +14°C, with average July temperatures around +24.5°C, and average January temperatures around +6.5°C. The average annual precipitation is about 1500 mm. The bulk of precipitation falls in winter. The main tourist season lasts from May to October.

The rather narrow beach strip does not diminish its advantages. It is harmoniously located between the wild and central beaches. Buoys are installed along the entire length, the beach is cleaned daily, and trash cans are installed. There are various rental points: sun loungers, umbrellas, as well as scooters and catamarans. Parachute flights and amateur diving are offered. In two places the beach has wooden decking for more convenient access to the water. There are special places with thatched roofs that provide protection from the scorching daytime sun.
The wild Loo beach is located away from the center and the pier at a distance of just over a kilometer. The noise, hum, bustle, music of cafes, bars and restaurants only rarely echoes to such a wonderful vacation spot. The beach is landscaped, buoys are installed along its entire length at a distance of 50 m from the seashore. Garbage bins are also installed, and the entire area is cleaned daily. The width of the beach varies from 10, in some places up to 6 m, and the length is about 600 m. The entrance to the water is gentle, without sharp changes. Medium-sized pebbles sometimes alternate with sandy islands; places with large stones are less common.
The nudist beach follows immediately after Dikiy, has a narrow coastal strip of just over 5-7 meters, and it stretches about 1000 meters in length. From above, the beach is protected from prying eyes by a bank protection dam entwined with wild plants. And immediately above it, 10-15 meters from the edge, there is a railway road, from which the beach is also not visible. There are mountains behind it. Thus, no matter how we look at it, the beach is ideal for nudists. The beach consists of pebbles, sometimes there are islands with large stones, giving this place veiled beauty and pristineness. There are no cafes or bars on the beach, no shops or anything else. Thus, the beach is very popular among resort guests.

For the convenience of tourists, there are changing cabins on the shore. One of the advantages of this beach is that there are few people, even during peak season. In the evening, a nightclub opens its doors with an interactive show program. Entrance to the beach is free.
Beach of the hotel "Russian Marvelous House" belongs to the hotel of the same name. A transfer to the shore and back is organized for guests of the boarding house. There are not many houses in the immediate vicinity and therefore the sea is always spacious. Beach equipment can be rented on the shore. In the evening, the coastal bar begins its work. Free admission.
Beach of the boarding house "Luchezarny" starts at the exit from the buildings. The most important advantage can be considered the distance from the large villages of Loo and Dagomys, which makes the beach uncrowded and clean. On the territory adjacent to the shore there is an aerarium and a summer exercise therapy room. If desired, you can rent sports and beach equipment.
Beach of the sanatorium "White Nights" is closed to outsiders; a guest ticket can be issued for access to the shore. The length of the beach is approximately 150 meters. Uch-Dere Beach (Semashko) is the most extreme in the Loo area. Despite its narrow size, it is loved by locals and resort guests. It's all about the forest line that runs along the shore. If you map Armenian settlements, churches, various Armenian societies and cultural centers, enterprises and lands privatized by Armenians, firms owned by Armenians, government organizations headed by Armenians, etc., on a map of the South of Russia, you will get an impressive map of Armenian expansion into the South of Russia .

When settling the southern territories of Russia, the Armenians used, among other things, “amazing” techniques. As O. Vandysheva from “KP” writes, “immigrants from Armenia bought a house in Russia with an area of 90 square meters and divided it among 120 people (?! - Author). Everyone got a registration."
sultanov.azeriland.com/nashestvie/nashestvie_1/page_25.html

The bulk of the Hamshen Armenians settled in the territory of what is now the Krasnodar Territory and Abkhazia (about 150 thousand people in 1989), Adjara (16 thousand people in 1985), Armenia (about 10 thousand people in the early 1990s. ).

Currently, the majority of Hamshen Armenians traditionally live in rural areas: compactly in the villages of the Adler and Lazarevsky districts of Sochi. Although the general ethnic self-name of Armenians (hai) began to prevail, a local division into Dzhaniks, Orduians and Trapizonians remains. It is difficult to determine the number of Hamshen Armenians without special research, since Armenians from various regions live in Sochi. According to the 1989 census, the entire Armenian population of Sochi amounted to 52,628 people. Its numbers increased significantly in the 90s. in connection with migration - mainly from Transcaucasia.
