What is a san trope? Sights of Saint-Tropez - what to see. A complete guide to iconic places. Beaches in Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez is a port town on the French Cote d'Azur, located in the southeast of France, 70 kilometers from Nice (112 km along the highway) and 102 kilometers from Marseille (143 km along the highway). My acquaintance with this city began in childhood with films about the gendarme from Saint-Tropez with the inimitable Louis de Funes. During my first visit, I certainly noticed that a lot has changed, but the special atmosphere still gives an exceptional charm to this place. I simply adore its cozy streets in the spirit of Provence, the vibrant energy of the tourist season and the calm, regularity of winter everyday life.

The local currency is the euro and the language is French, but restaurants, shops and hotels always have English-speaking staff. It is worth noting that most French people have a very interesting “soft” accent, and they simply love not to pronounce the English letter H. As for the time difference, in summer it is 1 hour (from Moscow), and in winter – 2 hours.

Much has been written about how a fishing village turned into a “star” resort. Cinema, actors, artists and musicians undoubtedly played a vital role in this. Be that as it may, the label of a “star” resort has firmly attached itself to Saint-Tropez and attracts tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world every season. However, besides the “stars”, luxury villas and yachts, there are many other interesting places, attractions, and entertainment. Beach lovers will appreciate the Mediterranean Sea, stormy night life the summer months will delight clubbers, but if you want to retire surrounded by impressive scenery, then this is also possible.

More details about everything below.

How to get there

You can get to Saint-Tropez by almost all types of transport, the choice depends on where you are entering from.

From Russia it is more logical to give preference to a plane or a train. If you are already in France or Europe, then the choice is quite large. The determining factor will be the duration of the trip. For example, when going here for a weekend, it is preferable to choose a plane or train, but for a longer stay a car is also suitable (convenient for getting around in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez).

By plane

There is, of course, no airport in Saint-Tropez itself; the town is too small for that. However, the traveler who wants to fly here has three airports nearby:

  • La Mole (private flights and flights to Nice);
  • Toulon-Hyères (domestic flights and flights to the UK);
  • international Airport Nice.

Nice International Airport

It is located more than a hundred kilometers from Saint-Tropez, but it is the most convenient option. Direct flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as from Minsk and Kyiv are served here.

The ticket price depends on the time of year. The highest prices are in July, August (from 500 €), as well as during New Year's holidays. The rest of the year you can find tickets from 300€.

Duration direct flight- about 3 hours 50 minutes, planes depart from Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo. A direct flight will take on average 3 hours 40 minutes.

You can choose a convenient flight option on aggregator sites, for example.

How to get from the airport to the city

Transfer to Saint-Tropez by taxi costs, on average, 200 euros. The fastest way will be by helicopter (320 euros per person). Although you can get there by public transport(see details below, in the section “By Bus”, “By Boat”).

Another option is renting a car. There are representative offices of many companies at the airport. Renting for the entire duration of your stay will cost much less than a one-way trip with the car returned to Saint-Tropez. You can book a car in advance and pick it up at the airport. It is convenient to compare prices and conditions on search engine sites, for example.

By car you will get there in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, it can be faster: it all depends on traffic jams. When leaving the airport, follow the direction A8 (blue sign), Sophia-Antipolis, Antibes, Cannes. Follow the blue signs, in France they show directions along the Autobahn. Leave the piste at exit 36 Le Muy and then follow the green signs for Saint Tropez.

Toulon-Hyères Airport

If you are already in France and decide to head to the Mediterranean Sea, I recommend Toulon-Hyères airport (about 50 km from Saint-Tropez). I like that it is quite small in size, and, accordingly, registration and security control are quick. Getting to Saint-Tropez from here is much easier, as there is a direct bus line 7803 (see section "By Bus"). Regular flights serve the following destinations:

  • Southampton,
  • Bordeaux,
  • Bastia,
  • Azhaxio.
How to get from Toulon-Hyères airport to the city

Leaving this airport by car, you will get to Saint-Tropez in 50 minutes. Follow directions La Londe les Maures, then Bormes Les Mimosas (without entering this village), then La Môle.

The road through La Môle, of course, does not allow you to enjoy the coastal scenery, as it passes through the forest, but there are fewer traffic jams. From La Môle follow the signs for Saint Tropez.

La Mole Airport

You can't ignore La Mole airport, 15 km from Saint-Tropez. It serves direct lines to Geneva, Nice (helicopter), Sillon. Working with private jets and helicopters represents the main direction of his activity.

How to get from La Mole airport to the city

The map shows the route of travel by car.

As with the previous options, simply follow the signs.

By train

Of course, you can’t get to Saint-Tropez by train, but you can get to Nice without any problems.

Moscow-Nice

The Moscow-Nice train departs from the Belorussky station on Thursdays (journey time is 10 hours 18 minutes), Nice - on Saturdays (21 hours 45 minutes) from the station.

Lux costs €809.80, first class €345.50 and second class €228.66. Details on tariffs and the discount system (discounts for pensioners and children) can be found on the Internet, for example, on the Russian Railways website.

As for the comfort in the carriages, one of my relatives was satisfied after traveling in second class and even decided to repeat the trip if necessary. However, I note that given the length of the trip, it is very important to travel with good travel companions.

From Nice to Saint-Tropez

At the Nice train station, you can buy a train ticket to Saint-Raphael, from where you can get to Saint-Tropez by boat or bus (see section By Bus, Boat). A ticket for a regular train costs about 12.30 € (price may vary depending on the period) and 18.00 € for a high-speed train (TGV). The average route duration is 1 hour 15 minutes.

If you are traveling to Saint-Tropez by train, for example, from Paris, then take a ticket to Toulon. In Toulon, the train station is located next to the bus, where bus lines 7801 and 7802 will take you there (see section By Bus).

By bus

The local bus system is quite well developed and allows you to get to Saint-Tropez from almost anywhere.

The Gare Routière bus station is located in close proximity with the city center, close to the Hôtel de Paris.

Nice airport

There is line number 3003, the ticket costs 20 €. The bus departs from platform 5 in Terminal 1 and from platform 1 in Terminal 2. It will take you to Saint Raphael, where you can change to line 7601, which goes to Saint-Tropez. Since this is an internal route of the Var department, the ticket will cost you 3 €. However, given the constant traffic jams during the peak season, in July and August it is better to give preference to a boat - you will be there much faster.

Toulon-Hyères Airport

As I noted above, there is a direct line 7803. During the tourist season, five regular flights, and the ticket costs, as on all internal lines of the department, 3 euros.

Toulon (bus station)

Both lines 7801 and 7802 go to Saint-Tropez (internal lines of the department). The difference between them is that the route of the first runs along the coastal road, while the second passes through La Môle, moving away from the sea and, accordingly, from traffic jams. Personally, I prefer 7802 as there are fewer stops on this route and the bus gets to Saint-Tropez much faster. The only drawback is the sharp turns. If you get motion sickness in transport, then just in case, prepare everything you need (in some places the roads are narrow and there are no shoulders, so the bus may not stop everywhere).

The schedule of all flights can be found on the Warlib website.

Local lines

Saint-Tropez also has bus lines that take you to local beaches. They depart from Place des Lice, in the city center. Detailed information can be found on the website.

From the bus station there is route 7703, with which you can visit villages such as Gassan and Ramatuelle. Line 7705 serves the beaches of Ramatuelle (schedule also on the Warlib website).

Route from Russia

Several years ago I also had the opportunity to come to France from the Russian Federation by bus. The route “Moscow - Nice” is long and tiring (night customs control, fellow travelers). However, this is a fairly economical form of transport (a round trip ticket costs about 300€), and it also allows you to enjoy the scenery.

Unfortunately, you cannot get to Saint-Tropez by bus from Russia, only to Nice. There you will have to change trains and get to Saint-Raphael, where you can choose a bus line or a boat to Saint-Tropez.

By car

The car is, without a doubt, the most comfortable view transport, especially in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. However, it also has its drawbacks: gasoline prices in the EU, traffic jams.

From cities in France

If you decide to get to Saint-Tropez by car, for example from Paris or another French city, it is necessary to take into account the financial factor. Gasoline and especially the autobahn are expensive, for example the route Nice - Saint-Tropez is estimated at 7.80 €.

You can calculate the approximate cost of your trip using GPS (some GPS models will automatically calculate this data for you when you enter the route) or. For example, the route “Paris - Saint-Tropez” will take 8 hours 48 minutes and is estimated at 157.32 €. However, it is worth noting that the duration and cost of the trip may vary significantly (the price of gasoline depends on gas stations, traffic jams are possible). The maximum speed on the French autobahn is 130 km/h.

From Russia

I never had to get to Saint-Tropez by car from Russia. With well-chosen stops, such a trip will allow you to visit more than one country in Europe, since Saint-Tropez is located 3,279 km from Moscow.

When traveling by car, take folding bicycles with you, if possible. During stops, you can move around without spending on gasoline, which is expensive in the EU.

By boat

Boats can be reached from Saint-Raphael, Sainte-Maxime, Port Grimaud, Marine de Cogolan and Les Issambres.
From Saint-Raphael the ticket costs 15€ for adults and 10€ for children, timetable for

The boat from Saint-Raphael arrives at the pier located near the Parking du Port parking lot, not far from the bus station (see the plan, the pier is marked with a red circle).

As for everyone else settlements, then they are serviced by the company “Les bateaux verts”.

A return ticket from Sainte-Maxime costs €13.50 for adults and €7.50 for children aged 4 to 12 years. The boat docks in the city center (see the plan, I marked the pier with a red circle).

Numerous excursions are also offered, which you can find on the company’s website

When is the season? When is the best time to go

The season in Saint-Tropez begins in April, reaches its peak in July, August and gradually ends in October. It is worth considering that in April, and often also in early May weather quite unstable, the holiday can be overshadowed by precipitation or strong winds (for example, the Mistral).

My favorite periods are from mid-May to the end of June and September. In the first case, the sunny weather has already firmly established itself, and the flow of tourists is moderate, because the French students are still at school. Also during this period, restaurants, bars and boutiques are reopened and operating at full capacity.

I like September primarily because of the weather - the sun is not as scorching as in July and August - and the fewer number of tourists in the city and on the beaches.

Another important element worth noting is prices. They are much lower at the beginning and end of summer and go through the roof (as do the temperatures) during the peak season. You can check prices for tours on the dates you are interested in.
Also during the tourist season there are numerous cultural and sporting events. Among the most famous and attractive great amount tourists should note:

  • Harley-Davidson Euro Festival in early May,
  • the Rolex Cup sailing regatta in early June,
  • as well as Fight Night in August and the sailing regatta Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez at the end of September.

No matter what time you come, you will have something to see. I will tell you more about the events below.

Saint Tropez in summer

In summer, the port town bustles with life, both day and night. Thousands of tourists fill the streets, port, shops and restaurants. This is the busiest period, when the beaches and villas of Saint Tropez emerge from their winter hibernation, filling with guests from all over the world. And the reason for this is the sunny weather.

The average temperature in summer fluctuates around +26–28 °C.

Saint Tropez in autumn

In autumn, the pace of life slows down, tourists and seasonal workers gradually leave the town. The beginning of September is an excellent time for a vacation, since the thermometer still shows quite attractive temperatures (on average +25–26 °C), and most of tourists have already left the city.

In October, the air temperature drops to +19 °C. October, November - not the best best time for a trip, as there may be a lot of rainfall during these months.

However, in the fall there are two events that simply cannot be missed and, in my opinion, should be seen at least once: the regatta “Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez” from September 24 to October 2 and the sale (Braderie de Saint-Tropez) from 28 to 31 October (dates may vary from year to year).

Saint Tropez in spring

Spring is a time of awakening. Along with the sun, tourists gradually return (like migratory birds), filling the café terraces and heralding the inevitable start of the season.

The weather during this period is unstable, but if you still decide to come in the spring, I advise you to focus on May: with more stable weather, you will be able to watch events such as the Eurofestival Harley-Davidson or the Bravado Saint-Petersburg festival. Tropez (Bravade). Average temperatures range from +19 °C to +23 °C.

Saint Tropez in winter

In winter, Saint-Tropez lives in a special slow rhythm. It's time for local residents to relax and they go on vacation. And boutiques and restaurants use the winter months to renovate. The town comes alive during the Christmas holidays, but most of the establishments remain closed. Average temperatures in the winter months are not very attractive: from +13 °C to +15 °C.

Districts. Where is the best place to live?

Saint-Tropez itself is a small town, and the historical center is even smaller. Restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops are concentrated in the city center, which is why you should not rent an apartment here for your holiday. The lively nightlife of the summer months (especially July and August) can put a damper on your holiday. Areas such as Le Port, La Citadelle, Old city(La Vielle Ville), Garonne (La Garonne) are of course very picturesque and prestigious, but not ideal for living (I separated them with a red line on the map).

If you still want to stay in close proximity to the city, give preference to apartments with windows onto the garden, courtyard, or apartments located in residences.

In my opinion, the optimal areas for living are:

  • Pilon (Le Pilon),
  • Bourgade and Les Conquètes,
  • Foxes (Les Lices).

They are located in close proximity to the center (you can even walk there) and are much quieter in terms of noise (I separated them on the map with a green line). As for prices, they do not particularly depend on the areas, since the town is small. On average, at the beginning of the season, a one-room apartment will cost you from 1000 € per week. In July, August from 1200 €. Naturally, in the center it will be more expensive by an average of 100–150 euros.

It is also worth paying attention to areas such as Saint Antoine, Saint Claude, and La Pinède. They are, of course, more distant from the center, but here you will not be disturbed by city noise, and if you wish, you can also reach the center of Saint-Tropez by bicycle (they are marked on the map with a blue line).

Of course, the most picturesque and interesting for walking is the historical center.

What are the prices for holidays?

Even by European standards, Saint-Tropez is expensive place for relax. The biggest part of your budget will be accommodation, but food isn't cheap either. If you're on a budget, aim for June or September as prices peak in July and August, especially between 14 July and 15 August.

If you decide to save money on restaurants, I recommend renting an apartment or staying at a campsite not far from Saint-Tropez. For example, camping Toison d’or, here 6 nights in a two-bedroom bungalow will cost more than 1800 € in July. This campsite is located 5.4 km from Saint-Tropez. You can find your way around the prices for renting apartments and apartments.

As for hotels, at the beginning and end of the season you can find rooms from 150 €, in July August from 300 €. It all depends on the location of the hotel and the number of stars. I advise you to compare prices from different sites, as it is possible to get discounts and find rooms at more attractive rates. You can book a hotel on Booking –.

It is better to buy food products not in Saint-Tropez, but in supermarkets in nearby Cogolan. Dinner or lunch in a restaurant will cost, according to experience, from 30 € per person. Choose your restaurant carefully, compare not only prices, but also the menu offered. The greater the number of dishes, the less hope for quality.

Visiting museums and various excursions are not expensive and are often free for children under 12 years old. I will tell you more about museums below.

Main attractions. What to see

As for local attractions, the picturesque streets are business card cities. It is they, along with the beaches, that attract numerous tourists from all over the world. However, here you will also find museums, churches and interesting places to visit. Now I will tell you more about interesting places cities.

Top 5

  • Citadel. This place, in my opinion, provides an opportunity to plunge into the history of the city, understand its strategic importance, and get rid of the cliché of an ordinary fishing village.

  • Excursion on the boat “Villas of Celebrities”. Where would we be without celebrities?
  • Walk in the port, along the streets of the old city. How else? I think you should definitely look at the yachts, the cozy and charming streets imbued with the spirit of the South of France, as well as the parish church and its world-famous tower.

  • Well, on Rue Clemenceau, I advise you to definitely look into the atelier and store of the famous Les Tropéziennes sandals.

  • Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema. This is a new museum and I encourage you to check it out because, along with the naval industry, cinema played an important role in the development of Saint-Tropez.

Beaches. Which ones are better

Saint-Tropez and its surroundings are simply an ideal place, in my opinion, for a beach holiday.

La Ponche (sand)

This is a fairly small (392m²) city beach.

In July and August, according to my observations, there are a lot of vacationers here.

Le Graniers (sand, pebbles, 392m²)

Located in close proximity to the city, close to the Citadel and cemetery. Therefore, you can get here on foot (about 20 minutes). There are usually far fewer holidaymakers here compared to La Ponche.

La Bouillabaisse (sand, 12043 m², length 503 m)

The beach is located at the entrance to Saint-Tropez. Many locals vacation here with their families. From the infrastructure, I noticed free parking, public toilets and showers.

Les Canoubiers (sand, 3350 m², length 194m)

Hidden behind a wall of bamboo, this beach is one of the most popular among locals. There is parking, public toilets and showers.

Les Salans/Les Salins (sand, 8924 m², length 600m)

Beautiful beach with a great view. Parking, public toilets and showers.

Pampelonne

You also can’t ignore Pampelonne Pampelonne. Of course, with administrative point In terms of view, it belongs to Ramatuelle, but vacationers in Saint-Tropez often prefer this huge (more than 4 km) strip of sand.

Numerous restaurants and cafes are available for vacationers here. Although in my opinion the plush is quite different high prices. Parking costs 4€ per day, mattress rental from 24€, towels from 5€.

Churches and temples. Which ones are worth visiting?

Parish Church of Saint-Tropez (Notre-Dame de l’Assomption)

The construction of the church was completed back in 1784, and today it has become a real symbol of the city. Its tower, a beautiful combination of yellow and ocher colors, is known throughout the world. The central nave has 4 bays. The façade is decorated with a niche with a life-size statue of St. Trophimus.

I believe that everyone who comes to the city should at least admire the church from the outside.

Chapel of St. Anne (La chapelle Saint-Anne)

Chapel of St. Anna was erected in 1618 on the Mont Pécoulet mountain; it was here that sailors came before and after long voyages. The simple forms of the Provençal style give the chapel a special charm, which is perfectly complemented by cypress trees and breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Currently, the chapel is open on May 18 (last day of Bravado), July 26 (St. Anne), August 15 (Assumption).

Address: 21 Chemin des Bastidettes.

Chapel of Mercy

It was built by the Order of Penitents and is remarkable, it seems to me, for its domed tower and picturesque gates.

Address: rue Gambetta.

Monastery chapel La Chapelle du Couvent

The chapel was erected on the possible burial site of the remains of St. Trophimus, the patron saint of the city. Orthodox services are also held here in the summer.

Address: Avenue Augustin Grangeon.

Museums. Which ones are worth visiting?

As for museums, there are only four of them in the port town. However, I would recommend visiting them:

Tourist streets

Saint-Tropez comparatively Small town, and its center is even smaller. So, when walking in the heart of Saint-Tropez, you will quickly notice that all the streets can be called tourist. Of course, among them there are places that are more touristy than all the others.

For example, small pedestrianized street Clemenceau (rue Clemenceau). I’ll even tell you that there are pedestrian traffic jams here in July and August. In addition to the world-famous Rondini store-atelier (Les Sandales Tropéziennes), the street is simply filled with boutiques of local merchants and is the shortest road from Place des Lices to the port.

I would also recommend taking a walk along streets such as st. Citadelle (rue de la Citadelle), st. Portail Neuf (rue du Portail Neuf) and the adjacent streets. Here you will find picturesque views with typical local architecture. There will be something to capture in the photo.

What to see in 1 day

If you only have one day to visit Saint-Tropez, I can help you plan your itinerary. It's better to come on market day (Tuesday, Saturday). So:

I will make an important note for those with a car: try to leave Saint-Tropez before 18:00 (traffic starts) or stay in town for dinner, after which you can leave without traffic jams.

What to see in the area

I will tell you here only about the most picturesque places that caught my eye.

Port Grimaud - Little Venice

In close proximity to Saint-Tropez there is the port of Grimaud, a local small port. Be sure to take your camera with you and take a boat ride to experience the local atmosphere. However, in August it is better not to show your nose there (there are a very large number of tourists).

Ramatuelle and Gassin

When talking about the surroundings of Saint-Tropez, one cannot ignore the picturesque villages of Gassan and Ramatuelle.

Small streets will immerse you in the atmosphere of Provence, and impressive views of the surrounding area will delight photographers.

Food. What to try

Speaking of food, one cannot ignore Tarte Tropezin - one of the symbols of the city. The origins of this dessert lie with a Polish pastry chef who opened a pastry shop in Saint-Tropez in 1955. Brigitte Bardot tried this dessert during the filming of “And God Created Woman” and, according to legend, it was she who suggested the name “La Tarte Tropézienne”!

Nowadays, tender Brioche dough with a layer of butter cream is one of the favorite delicacies of tourists visiting the city.

Saint-Tropez has a very wide selection of restaurants: from simple pizzerias to expensive chic establishments. When choosing a location for your lunch or dinner, I suggest considering two factors. Firstly, the menu: the more dishes, the less chance of quality. Secondly, the location. In the port and surrounding streets, prices are quite high.

Budget

  • L"Adresse Marocaine. Address: 4 Quai de l"Épi, 83990 Saint-Tropez, France.
  • Marcellino. Address: 19 Quai Jean Jaurès, 83990 Saint-Tropez, France.
  • Basil Burger. Address: Place des Remparts.
  • Bistro Pastis.Address: 18, rue Seillon.

Mid-level

  • Le G. 67, rue du Portail Neuf.
  • La Part Des Anges. 6, rue de L'Eglise.
  • Le Dit Vin. 7, rue de la Citadelle.

Expensive

  • Casa Di Stefano. 13, rue des Freniers.
  • Caprice Des Deux. 40, rue du Portail Neuf.
  • Bar Du Port. Quai Suffren.
  • La Vague d'Or. Plage de la bouillabaisse, La résidence de la Pinède.

Holidays

For more than 450 years, an annual festival has been held in Saint-Tropez in mid-May. La Bravade. During festive processions, city residents wear red and white clothes (the colors of the flag of Saint-Tropez), and participants in the processions dress in costumes of sailors, military men, and participants in the costumes of townswomen or peasant women of the era.

This festival is dedicated to Saint Trophim, the patron saint of the city. The boat with the body of the martyr beheaded by order of Nero washed up on the local shores. So the image of a boat appeared on the city’s coat of arms, and believers began to venerate the saint.

During Bravado, a bust of Saint Trophim is solemnly carried through the streets. From time to time the priest stops the procession and the soldiers fire a volley from ancient muskets. If you have the opportunity, don't miss La Bravade, I find it a very interesting experience to mingle with the crowd of spectators dressed in red and white.

Safety. What to watch out for

There are no particular problems with regard to security in Saint-Tropez. It is enough to follow the basic rules. For example, when walking through the market, hide your money away and systematically close your bag. Do not leave your bag or wallet unattended, even for a few seconds. At night, avoid noisy companies on the street.

In general, it is enough to exercise reasonable vigilance and caution, as with any trip. Here, it seems to me, are all the recommendations in this regard.

Things to do

Shopping and shops

A trip to Saint Tropez is a great reason to replenish your wardrobe! Here you will find the latest collections of high fashion houses, as well as cozy boutiques of local merchants. Saint Tropez is, in a way, a lullaby for brands.
High fashion houses are concentrated mainly in the Place de La Garonne, here, for example, you will find Dior, Armani, Bottega Veneta, Valentino...

It is also worth taking a walk along streets such as Allard, Clemenceau, Gambetta, where most of the shops are concentrated. Among the local brands I would highlight:

  • Les Tropéziennes (Rondini) - handmade sandals (average price for adult models 130 €).
  • Be-store - shorts, espadrilles, belts. There are four stores of this brand in Saint-Tropez, each of which is dedicated to a specific product line.
  • Espadrilles Tropéziennes are lightweight summer shoes made of fabric and leather. In the store you can also personalize your espadrilles with the artist's drawings.
  • Les Senteurs Tropézienne - perfumes for the home. Perfume, scented candles and diffusers, aromatic compositions inspired by the smells of local plants and the sea. The collection of eleven perfumes “A Walk in Saint-Tropez” will remind you of your vacation and will be an excellent gift.

  • Titamàlà - original costume jewelry, locally handmade.

In my opinion, prices in Saint Tropez are, of course, high, but at the end of the tourist season, in October, during three days La Braderie de Saint Tropez has a big sale. The city is again filled with crowds of tourists and the reason for this is very interesting prices

Bars. Where to go

Bars are open until 3 am and most of them are only open during the tourist season. Prices are quite high, for example, Coca Cola costs an average of 7 €, there are places where a glass of simple white wine costs 20 €.
Some bars have themed parties, but there are no establishments dedicated to a specific theme. I liked the bar of the Sube Hotel: very beautiful decor from the era of sailors.

Also, don’t miss Kelly’s Pub in the spirit of Irish pubs. Here is another list of my recommendations:

  • Bar Chez Maggy (themed parties).
  • Bar du Port (for an evening aperitif).
  • L'Atrium Bar.
  • Bar du Sube.

Clubs and nightlife

Nightlife is in full swing during the tourist season. In June, July and August all clubs are open every day until 5 am. In September the clubs are only open on weekends.

Entry, as far as I know, is free, but prices for drinks start at 20 €. Regarding dress code: For men, shorts, T-shirts and short sleeve shirts should be avoided. Women should prefer dresses. Here's a short list from me:

  • Les Caves du Roy.
  • Hotel Byblos.
  • Le VIP Room.

Also common in Saint-Tropez is the concept of restaurants that gradually turn into real clubs as night falls:

  • Brasserie des Arts. 5 place des Lices.
  • L'Opera. Residence du Port.
  • Le Quai. 22 Quai Jean Jaurès.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

The easiest way to get to Saint-Tropez is by car, although mountain roads, popularly nicknamed “mother-in-law’s tongues,” await you.

Where is the best place to stay in Saint-Tropez?

Sights of Saint-Tropez: what is worth seeing?

In addition to the magnificent promenade, port and various beaches (including “top-less”), there are several that are definitely worth a visit.

Those who come to Saint-Tropez in the middle will be able to see the luxurious Porsche parade (Paradis Posrches), in which more than 300 cars of this brand come from all over Europe.

What and where to eat in Saint-Tropez

After spiritual food, it doesn’t hurt to refresh yourself and look into the many cafes. Provençal cuisine and seafood prepared in Saint-Tropez are very popular different ways. For example, tapenade (latapenade) - a thick mixture of crushed anchovies, olives and capers, which is spread on toast or served as an accompaniment to soup, or the many variations of foie gras, as well as various ones made from sheep's and goat's milk. For dessert, you can try the Tarte Tropezienne cake or the Calen de Saint Tropez cake made with honey, mint and almonds.

Restaurants and cafes in Saint-Tropez that we can recommend:

· L'Auberge des Maures. Address: 8, rue Boutin. The approximate cost of lunch is €65.

· L'Oliver/Le Bristo. Address: La Bastide de Saint-Tropez, Route des Carles. The approximate cost of lunch is €30-90.

Shopping in Saint-Tropez: what to bring?

Well, for lovers there are many boutiques and shops with products from famous designers. Prices here are not the cheapest in Europe, but only in Saint-Tropez can you buy the famous Tropeziennes sandals, which, in particular, are sold in the specialty store Les Tropeziennes.

And also, not a single fashionista will pass by the worldwide popular Brigitte Bardot boutique (Le Brigitte Bardot), where you can buy things with the initials V.V. To remember the city, of course, you can buy traditional ones, but a much more interesting reminder of Saint-Tropez will be bracelets from Valerie, with the name of the city originally written on them. A good gift for men would be smoking pipes, cigars, and Dupont lighters produced by a local factory. And, of course, don’t forget to bring French, cheeses and chocolate from your trip.

… Many have heard about this noisy, interesting and controversial place on the coast Mediterranean Sea in the French department of Var.

Someone imagines a quiet town for family vacation, some a noisy resort for billionaires, others the delightful nature of Provence...

Sea

The sea in St. Tropez is at least no worse than, and in some respects even better.

Water temperature and swimming season here they are just as long: May-September, and in some seasons you can swim until the end of October.

The coastline here is quite rugged and therefore diverse in terms of landscapes for about 15 kilometers from Port Grimaud to Ramatuelle. This creates a picturesque change of sea views (from bays to the open sea) and the opportunity to choose a place on the shore that best suits your wishes.

Beaches

A detailed article will be published about the beaches of St. Tropez, and therefore I will allow myself only a few sensible comments.

The beaches in the city itself and at the entrance to it are not very clean, but at the same time they are gentle and are well suited for families with children.

For small groups and lovers of romance or solitude for swimming, the coastal strip on the cape is suitable when walking out of the city in the direction of the beaches of Pamplona. There you can find quiet places on a rocky shore, hidden from the curious, ubiquitous tourists.

For young people, lovers of sports entertainment and parties, the best beaches are those located in the commune of Ramatuelle and called “Pamplona beaches”. There's a total length coastline is more than 7 kilometers, and you can settle down for every taste - simply on a towel on the municipal beach, or with pomp and champagne on a paid one.

Atmosphere of celebration and fun

The atmosphere of a holiday, summer carefree idleness and idleness, luxury and chic, exclusivity and carefreeness in St. Tropez is felt already upon entering the city. And it seems that even the air of St. Tropez is permeated with fun everywhere.

Wherever you go and whatever you do, it attracts, beckons, makes you forget about everything and stay in St. Tropez as long as possible. And numerous bars, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, beaches and parties in villas help maintain such an atmosphere.

Try the tarte tropezien

This famous dish throughout France was invented and presented in Saint-Tropez in the early fifties of the last century by Polish pastry chef Alexander Mika.

It consists of a large airy bun, sprinkled with coarse sugar and filled with cream, which in turn consists of three other types of pastry creams. This dessert was so loved by the team of director Roger Vadim, who filmed his films here in the fifties, that thanks to them it became famous throughout France. And the best tarte tropezien is prepared, naturally, in the bakery of the same name!

Visit the famous port

The port is at the same time the center of restaurant and terrace life, the final destination of shopping routes, a place of pleasant bliss and relaxation, as well as a vanity fair and a yacht exhibition.

Here you can admire the expensive luxury yachts from an arm's length distance, and even climb onto some of them to take photographs (with due courtesy to the crew). Tens of thousands of tourists visit the port of St. Tropez every year to admire the fashionable masterpieces of shipbuilding art up close.

Shopping

Many people come to shopping in Saint-Tropez, because here, per unit area in the center of the town, bounded by the port - Vasro Boulevard, there are a lot of boutiques of the highest brands and the same number of costume jewelry, jewelry stores and other shops. There are also bars and restaurants for a light break and lunch.

At the same time, pay attention to typical Tropezien sandals - you won’t buy these anywhere else. But T-shirts, polos and other paraphernalia with the inscription “Saint Tropez” are already kitsch and have not been in fashion for a long time, so we warn you against buying them so as not to be confused with Romanian tourists.

Play petanque at Place de Lys

On Sundays this square turns into a huge market in the morning, but in the afternoons and on weekdays it is the kingdom and temple of petanque. A lot of locals gather here to play this typically Provençal game, and if you are also an adept of this game, then no one will stop you from joining them. (More about the favorite games of the French -)

If you get tired, along the perimeter of the square you will see many cafes and bars where you can invigorate yourself with pastis, or, on the contrary, relax with rose.

Look at the elite and the stars

Seeing how the world's elite, stars from all continents, billionaires and others like them, are relaxing is a common thing in St. Tropez.

Here you can easily sit in the same restaurant at the next table with world-famous politicians, find yourself at the same party with Hollywood celebrities, or bump into media personalities at the entrance to a boutique.

The main concentration of the elite in the evenings is the port. Here you need to sit at a table with a cocktail or rose wine on one of the terraces and admire the people passing by. Believe me, this activity will not get boring, because you will not find so many beautiful, fashionable and rich personalities gathered in one place anywhere else in the world (except for the Oscars, of course).

Attend the fishermen's festival

Yes, yes, despite all the luxury and splendor, 60-70 years ago St. Tropez was provincial fishing village. And even now, hereditary fishermen here go out to sea every morning and return to sell their catch not only in expensive hotels and restaurants, but also in the local market, in the old fashioned way, from stalls.

And every year there is a fishing festival organized by the city hall with beautiful processions in traditional costumes with torches, fires and bonfires, round dances in the port and fireworks. The holiday takes place in two stages – June 29 and July 6. I highly recommend you visit it to experience the real life of this old fishing port.

See the famous Gendarmerie

Yes, this building has still been preserved, despite the fact that it has already become quite dilapidated and has not been used for its intended purpose for a long time. At one time it was proposed to be demolished several times, but thanks to the tenacity of the mayor of St. Tropez, it survived and is one of the most photographed objects in the city.

The Gendarmerie is located on Rue Generale Leclerc - directly opposite the Monoprix supermarket.

In addition to this building, tourists are reminded of the glory of this city as the gendarme seaside capital of France by an actor dressed up in the uniform of gendarmes of the 50s of the last century, who periodically gives his performances on the central streets of the city, and most often in the area of Place de Lys. He entertains the public by “regulating” traffic and encouraging billionaires in convertibles stuck in traffic jams, in the style of “What are you doing here, pass quickly” and “Come in large numbers, St. Tropez is not made of rubber!”

Saint-Tropez is a popular resort located in the south of France, the mention of which evokes the image of a beautiful harbor full of light sailing ships, exquisite yachts, luxury boats, and the visible mansions of movie stars and celebrities. Saint-Tropez, like many other port towns, was originally an inconspicuous fishing village, located near Nice, but this ancient town became more popular when some families from Genoa moved here, and the city began to slowly fill with great poets, famous writers and artists who drew inspiration from here.

The city, named after Saint Thorpes, gained worldwide fame when the film “And God Created Woman” was filmed here in 1956 with the famous actress Brigitte Bardot in the title role, after which very wealthy people, famous actors, couturiers, in fact, they turned this city into a fashionable resort.

Cote d'Azur Saint-Tropez, with its favorable climate, attracts a huge number of tourists, but besides this, the city is famous for its attractions, the main of which are: the Museum of the Annunciation, which presents the Grammont collection and outstanding French artists Matisse, Picabius, Cross, Bonnard, various church relics - Chapel St. Anne, Church of the Assumption Holy Mother of God, maritime museum with an exhibition of the maritime history of St. Tropez, the Butterfly House, Cogolin - a real center of craftsmanship self made, as well as the magnificent Port Grimaud with thousands of yachts docked there. The city has preserved an incredible number of ancient chapels and churches, each of which has its own unique characteristics. The Monastery Chapel is of great interest to pilgrims; according to historical data, it was built on the burial site of the Holy Apostle Trophimus. Local residents still consider him the main patron of the city, so every year they organize beautiful holidays in honor of the saint near the chapel.

The ancient chapel of Saint-Eloy has a very interesting fate; over the hundreds of years of its existence, it has practically not changed its appearance. Initially, this chapel belonged to the local guild of blacksmiths and shepherds; every year on December 1, they organized a beautiful holiday in the chapel in honor of their patron, Saint Eloi. Today, in the building of the ancient chapel there is a Protestant church, in which you can see a lot of ancient design elements.

In the Middle Ages, the local guild of carpenters and joiners also had their own religious monument - the Chapel of St. Joseph. It was built in the mid-17th century and, unlike many other ancient churches of Saint-Tropez, has retained its interesting traditions over the centuries. Every year on March 19, local joiners and carpenters honor their saint, in whose honor they make a solemn procession through the city streets. On this one day of the year, the ancient statue of the saint is taken out of the chapel and carried through the city streets, after which it is returned to the church with honors.

Saint-Tropez has preserved many ancient defensive structures, while walking along the historic street rue des Argentiers you can see preserved fragments of the ramparts and several old towers. In those places where houses are built on the street today, back in the 19th century there was a fortress wall. The city authorities decided to demolish it and allowed local residents build their houses on the site of the walls; many buildings of the 19th century were erected from stones that remained from the fortress wall.
