Lamai beach.

Due to the large number of ships, garbage often accumulates on the shore, which makes this beach unsuitable for beach holidays.

Lamai

The sea is perfect in summer. The water temperature is +28C, judging by the forecasts of Gismeteo and Yandex, and many beaches in Thailand can envy the transparency. The waves are sometimes small and do not interfere with swimming. I saw a completely calm sea on Lamai beach several times. If in the high season Lamai Beach is dirty, muddy and waves, there is no desire to swim, then in the summer it is beautiful, clean and in general in the summer it is one of the best beaches in Samui.

Chaweng

In summer the water is blue and clear. We never saw any garbage in the water. They wrote to us in the comments about the muddy bottom, but we didn’t notice this; there was pleasant sand everywhere at the bottom.

Maenam

Deserted in summer. Just the dream of someone who is tired of people and wants to relax alone when there is no one within a radius of at least 100 meters. Only rare traders can ruin your relaxation.

Bophut

In the summer, he lives a busy life. Perhaps the most tourists come to Bophut in the summer. We walked around Fisherman Village, sat in a cafe, and you couldn’t tell that it was low season. Living on Koh Samui, we of course visited almost everything beaches of Koh Samui🙂 I am often asked which beach on Koh Samui is the best, which beach on Koh Samui is best for families with children, which Koh Samui beach to choose for youth holidays, which beach is best to settle down for the winter?

I can say that we are all different and what one likes may not necessarily please another. This article contains a short overview of the beaches of Koh Samui. Please note that this is my subjective opinion :)

Let's start in order with the most popular beach 😎

We move along the island's ring road to the south. The next beach is the beach or South Chaweng. You can only get to the beach through hotels or through the coastal restaurant Bistro Samui. The beach is long, wide coastline, fine white sand, pleasant waves in winter and completely calm in summer. Good for families with children. On the left, near the rocks, you can snorkel. This beach is my favorite, and indeed the best beach on Koh Samui! If I come to Samui on vacation, I will choose Chaweng Noi beach, and I recommend it to all my friends! Further south is the beach - this very romantic, secluded beach, only 130 meters long, is located in a small bay and is surrounded on both sides by rocky cliffs and oddly shaped boulders. There are only three hotels on the beach. The sand on the beach is yellow and coarse, the sea is almost immediately deep. Waves in winter. Suitable for lovers of romance. This beach is also one of our favorites. But also not for life, but for relaxing on the beach and swimming in the sea.

Beach or Thongtakian or Silver Beach - that's how many names one beach has - a beautiful beach in a cozy bay about 300 meters long. There are several hotels on the beach, soft sand, lush vegetation. Minus - the entrance to the sea is not very good; there are stones and algae in the sea. Beach for a quiet, relaxing holiday. Read about all the hotels on Kritsal Bay beach.

Beach - the length of the coastline is about 4 km, just like Chaweng Beach is divided into three parts: northern, central and southern. In the northern part there is a pronounced low tide. The central part is ideal for swimming. The sand is yellowish and coarse; in winter there are often waves. Lamai Beach is not as party and noisy as Chaweng, but all the infrastructure is present here, there is a market, shops, Tesco Lotus, Macro, many restaurants and cafes. Prices are generally not high. Lamai Beach is an ideal choice for both holidays and long-term stays. It was Lamai that I chose to live on Koh Samui. About our house in Lamai.

To the south along the ring road there is a beach, which I call the beach for myself, because... it is located near the hotel of the same name. On the map this is Natien Beach, eastern part. The beach is very beautiful, but not suitable for swimming. Very shallow and rocks in the water. But what soft sand and magnificent views! There is a kai station on the beach. Nearby is an aquarium and a tiger zoo. An ideal place for kitesurfing. And in general, I really like this beach 😎

The islands - Laem Set, Bang Kao, Thong Krut - are sparsely populated, have a lot of natural debris and are not suitable for swimming: shallow, with a lot of stones in the water. Beautiful nature and desertedness are the main advantage of this place.

We move further to the west of Koh Samui and find ourselves on the beach - a magnificent beach for a quiet, relaxing and romantic holiday. There are almost no people, hotels are located far from each other. There is no entertainment or shops either. Incomparable nature, palm trees, but there is a minus - shallow sea. To buy, you have to walk quite a bit. Since this beach is located in the west of Koh Samui, you can watch amazing sunsets here. I would live on this beach in retirement, in a nice expensive hotel 😎

The next beach in the west, right after the cape with the naval base, is Tong Yang Beach. A long beach with white, fine sand, magnificent scenery, palm trees and a few hotels. Quiet, calm, but there is also a problem - the sea is shallow... I would choose this beach for living with children. Nearby, a 10-15 minute drive, is Nathon, where there are many shops and other necessary infrastructure. Lipa Noi Beach has magnificent sunsets.

Beach - this beach is located in the north of Koh Samui and is very popular among Russian winterers with children. I don’t argue – the beach itself is very beautiful. You can find a place in the shade under a palm tree or in the sun. Swimming is comfortable - there are no stones in the sea and it is almost immediately deep. The sand is coarse and yellow. In winter, waves are rare. It often happened like this: there is a storm in Chaweng and Lamai - you can’t swim, but there are no waves on Maenam beach. There are many long-term rental houses in the beach area. But I don’t know why, I didn’t really like the area itself. In the evening there is silence, emptiness. There is nowhere to go, there is no walking street with shops or restaurants. Prices are higher than in Lamai. A big plus is that there are two markets: morning and evening. Prices at the morning market are very low. The beach is ideal for families with children who go to bed at 9-10 o'clock. In this area, several rivers flow into the sea, so there are a lot of mosquitoes.

The beach is a continuation of Maenam beach. The beach is located on a cape and belongs to an expensive hotel, but anyone can come and swim on it. The beach is ideal for photo shoots in Koh Samui. Beach W is very clean, the sand here is coarse and yellow, the right bay is deep and suitable for comfortable swimming, there are few people.

Beach – I liked it much more than Maenam beach. The coastline itself is very similar to Maenam: large yellow sand, palm trees near the water, deep sea. But the area is much nicer - there are many restaurants, bars, places to take a walk in the evening - there is even something like a promenade along the sea, which is very rare for Samui 😎 On Fridays - famous. Lots of expensive hotels. Prices for everything in the Bophut beach area are quite high. We were amazed by the prices at the market - very expensive fruits, so we went to the market on Maenam beach. Very close to the Big C supermarket.

The beach, or as it is also called Big Buddha Beach (due to the location of the Big Buddha statue near it), is located in the northeast of the island in the same bay as Bophut Beach. There are several piers on the beach from which you can get to Koh Phangan. It is better to swim and relax in the middle part of the beach, the sea here is immediately deep, the sand is quite fine. Bang Rak has many nice cafes, the famous fish market, Tesco Express. Bang Rak is a good place to live or winter on Koh Samui.

Beach – a small beach in the northeast is located in the bay of the same name, in which there are only two hotels and several villas. There are no shops, you can eat in the hotel restaurant. The sand on this beach is fine, the water is clean, and there are not many people. The downside of the beach is that there is almost no shade and therefore it is very hot. You can stop by for a swim several times if you live somewhere nearby 😎

The beach is located in the northeast of the island, not far from Chaweng Beach. Choeng Mon Beach is very popular with families with children. Fine white sand on the beach, shallow sea, and a small picturesque island nearby. There is all the necessary infrastructure - shops, restaurants and Chaweng beach is not far away. The only negative is that in January there were a lot of people on the beach. Like in Crimea in the summer! And in the summer the entire beach was filled with yachts.

So, let’s summarize the beaches of Koh Samui: there are no ideal beaches, everywhere has its pros and cons 😎 What the beach looks like depends very much on the season, the presence of storms and the sun. In sunny weather, all the beaches of Samui are beautiful, but in rain they look dull. From November to February, Chaweng, Chaweng Noi, Coral Cove and Lamai have quite strong waves. In summer, all beaches are calm.

For a long stay I would choose the beach Lamai, if I hadn’t found a house in Lamai, then the beach Bophut or as a last resort Bang Rak. If you live for more than a year, you can rent a house quite cheaply in Natone, and go swimming Linden Noah.

Three beaches are ideal for swimming and relaxing: Chaweng Noi, Ban Tai,Coral Cove.

For contemplation - the beach near the hotel and Taling Ngam.

If I were going to Koh Samui on vacation for a couple of weeks, I would either stay at the beach Chaweng Noi or on the beach Lamai.
