Alpine lakes in Austria. Swimming and relaxing on the lakes of Austria. Traveling through Austrian national parks

Carinthia is actually a border region of Austria, located near Italy and Slovenia. This area is known throughout the world for its picturesque landscapes. This is where Großglockner is located - highest mountain on the territory of Austria, as well as many wonderful natural lakes.

In general, Carinthia is largely a lake region; tourists come here from many parts of the world. In this southern Austrian province, tourists encounter a large number of clean and warm lakes, reflecting Mountain peaks, with a mild climate, with springs with healing water. Here you can relax, play sports or fish. Everyone who comes here will find something to their liking.

The Ice Age gave such a beautiful tourist picture to these regions. Thanks to him, there are now 1,270 lakes in these places, hidden among the mountain ranges. The largest lake in Carinthia is Wörthersee, located at an altitude of 485 meters from sea level. It must be said that despite its high position in the mountains, the water temperature in the lake in the summer months sometimes warms up to +27 degrees. There are excellent opportunities here for beach holiday, since the warm days here literally last until autumn.

Near the lake itself is the city of Klagenfurt, founded in 1252, which today is considered the capital of Carinthia. So, if you wish, you can go on the “World in Miniature” excursion in Minimundus Park. There you will meet the world's most famous architectural masterpieces, reduced by 25 times.

All the towns adjacent to the lake - Maria Werth, Pertsch and Velden - have all the necessary conditions for recreation - beaches, sport equipment and entertainment opportunities. And from here, if you wish, you can easily go to Venice, since this famous Italian town is literally a 3-hour drive from Lake Wörthersee.

Another bathing lake is Klopeiner See. There are diving and surfing schools, a large number of tennis courts, and opportunities for cycling and other sports activities.

Many tourists are attracted to Lake Faakersee, famous throughout Europe. There are stunningly warm waters and stunning cliffs of the Karawanken Mountains. Here you won’t even hear the noise of motor boats, since the Lake Faakersee area has the status of “the cleanest alpine region.” From May to almost October, over three hundred different cultural events take place here.

Another attractive lake, known for its pristine beauty and no less picturesque landscapes, is Lake Millstattersee. While relaxing on it, tourists can visit the doll museum in Treffen and the Porsche Museum in Gmünd. For good fishing you should go to Lake Ossiacher See, famous for its fish stocks. Near the lake there is an excellent network of trails equipped for walking, and at a wide variety of mountain heights.

Near the lakes there is a very pleasant mild climate - it is very fresh and not at all hot during the daytime, but not at all cold at night. Tourists usually stay in nice and cozy coastal hotels. In Carinthia itself there are many oldest historical buildings- fortresses and monasteries. Of course, from many of them only ruins remain, but some, such as the Cathedral of St. Gurk, are not only excellently preserved, but still receive visitors within their walls to this day.

Tourists who come to Carinthia for own car, can go to the lakes on a special train designed to transport cars. To transport one car you will need to pay 14 euros, and for independent travel on Carinthian roads you will need to pay a special toll. This applies not only to car owners, but also to motorcyclists. There is a significant fine for evading this tax.

You can also get here by train; Austria has well-developed railway connections. And the airport in Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, receives flights from many cities, including Vienna, Frankfurt and Zurich.

This review is about our first holiday on the lakes in Austria. Before moving to Austria, we lived for a long time on the ocean coast, or rather, the Gulf of Mexico. So the lakes were a novelty for us: we wanted to take a break from the ocean and tropical summer and enjoy the beauty of the Austrian lakes.

Our goal was to visit picturesque places in the northern and southern parts of Austria. At the same time, relax and enjoy the trip, and without stress. Another goal was to stay in a children's hotel and finally find out what it is!

We traveled with our 6-year-old daughter. You understand that sitting in a car all the time is not particularly interesting for a child. so we tried to combine Austrian beauty with children's entertainment.

Travel time: July 2013, duration: 11 days. We traveled by car.

When drawing up the route, in addition to advice from friends and information from the Internet, a regular map and a hint map “romantic road” helped. You can send a request and they will send you a brochure on this road.

I want to say right away that we didn’t have much choice with hotels, since it was the height of the Austrian holidays.

We, as “newbies” to holidays in Austria, had no idea about this and had no idea how difficult it would be to find a hotel at a reasonable price. And our booking happened at the last minute. We found the best option on booking.com; all our hotels were 4 stars.

The hotel in Salzburg is not worth mentioning as we only stayed there for 1 night.

For some reason, my daughter said that Salzburg reminded her of France. The child especially remembered the castle on the mountain and the old working bakery with a water mill and delicious bread.

Oh yes, and trolleybuses! It turns out they still exist! Unfortunately, we were unable to ride.

Nice staff, neat and clean. The food is so-so, but in the morning the buffet is good and very fresh.

Gasthaus has its own beach: not very close - you need to walk a little, min. 10-15. This is not a beach with sand, but a secluded, wonderful green area with sun loungers and a wooden pier.

There is no special entertainment for children on the beach; this place is more for adults: relax under the shade of trees, take a nap or read a book. Very quiet place. We came a couple of times and were alone on the beach.

My daughter loved running around naked (very Austrian!).

Gasthaus also issues a pass to the public beach - with a slide, swimming pools and a children's playground. Of course, it was great for a child, but for me it was torture because of the crowd of people. Literally, “there’s nowhere for the apple to fall.”

Note: parents with children should not expect any entertainment in the guesthouse. It is more designed for everyone to entertain themselves as they wish. There weren't even children's bicycles for rent.

Although there were families with children there, the majority were older. This didn't bother us. We were so exhausted during the day: either exploring the surrounding area or on the beach, that we slept “without our hind legs.”

The audience in Fuschl is varied - Austrians, Germans, English speakers and Russians. We walked through the forested mountains, went on a summer toboggan run, and looked for gnomes from the forest (a special route for children). Water in about zere Fuschl is crystal clear, almost drinking quality. The locals are very proud of this and no motorized boats are allowed on the lake, only those with oars or electric motors.

The water itself is incredibly cold! I could only go up to my knees. The husband and daughter splashed around - he because of his father's duty, and she had a carefree childhood.

One day we went to Lake Mondsee - Moon Lake (Mondsee), Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgan g see) and Lake Ischl. Very very beautiful!

We regret that we spent little time on this region: incomparable places, very peaceful and relaxing.

We also stopped in Hallstatt. I've been wanting to see this place for a long time. It reminded me of a city frozen in time.

I don’t know why, but it’s as if there’s a different flow of life there. The city itself seemed to be extinct: the shutters of the houses were closed and only tourists disturbed the peace and quiet.

Our hotel is on the right in the picture below. We had a corner room on the 4th floor. The room was very nice and cozy, with a small balcony and a view of the lake: a good charge of positive energy. In Sonnelino itself everything was busy, but to be honest, from the description (and then in fact) we liked Sonne more.

Since our daughter is 6 years old, Sonne suited me. Maybe if she were younger, 1-3 years old, then perhaps Sonnelino. For me personally, Sonnelino was too hectic to relax. Although, everything is wonderfully thought out and arranged for parents with small children.

Sonne is located right by the water. The territory has its own neat beach and restaurant. Guests from Sonnelino can come to the Sonne site to use the beach and eat.

Sonnelino has a children's club and an indoor pool. We didn't use the pool because the weather was wonderful and we enjoyed the summer days and evenings outside.

Note: Sonne and Sonnelino are located across a busy local road from each other, so the child had to be dropped off and collected, but this was not a problem for us.

The children's club has pleasant staff and cheerful animators; very good program: clowns, pony rides, making a fire and baking bread on it; a nice area with an outdoor playground; there are a few animals (goats, sheep, rabbits).

My daughter couldn't wait to go to the club.

Both hotels offer free bicycle rentals, which we took advantage of.

You can rent boats and pedalos.

There is also a separate “children’s beach” for kids with a slide and sandbox.

The food at the hotel is “B”, but fresh and varied. Children have a simple but good children's buffet for lunch.

There were no complaints about the service.

The guests were mostly Austrians, but there were some Russians too.

Lake Klopeiner was chosen as one of the warmest lakes in Austria. Which I officially confirm is true! I was swimming!

nesta_eber @ Flickr (under CC)

We found it by accident when we rode bicycles around the lake. We went to the hotels we liked and asked if they had a room for the weekend. We decided to stay at Ameri k a Holzer am See and were not disappointed.

Level higher than Sonne – the hotel itself, the guests, as well as the food. The audience was more presentable or something (although this word doesn’t seem to fit here very well), but not prim.

There were Austrians, a German-American family and Russian families, mostly with children.

The hotel is not part of the “children’s hotel” chain, but it has all the conditions for a holiday with a child. The staff themselves are very pleasant and responsive (this is confirmed by the guests who lived there for 1-2 months).

Almost everyone loves to spend the summer on the seaside. But, unfortunately, such a vacation is not suitable for every child. Many parents are afraid to take their children to the sea. Radical climate change and long journeys can negatively affect a child’s well-being. There are also cases when holidays in hot climates are contraindicated for health. But what to do, where to go on vacation in the summer with a child?

An alternative to the sea coast will be the lakes of Austria. There are more than a thousand reservoirs in the country. Find out everything about holidays in Austria on the lakes with children in 2019 and plan a great trip!

A trip to the picturesque lakes of this country will not be cheap in any case. Offers from guides and travel agencies are quite expensive. Thus, a week-long tour to the lakes of Carinthia (transport, accommodation, breakfasts and excursions) can cost one person about 900 euros. It is quite possible to plan a trip to Austria on your own - you will have to put in more effort, but you will create your holiday yourself down to the smallest detail.

When choosing a resort, you need to consider the cost of your vacation. Travel costs will cost about 150 euros. It all depends on the chosen mode of transport and the distance of the route. As for accommodation, on average you will have to pay 50 euros per night for a double room. Meals per person per day will cost about 20 euros. However, the high cost of such a trip will more than pay off, because Austria can offer both a relaxing, active and educational holiday.

Austria on the map:

Some popular resorts on the lakes of Austria

Lakes in Carinthia

Particularly popular for family vacation enjoys the south of Carinthia. This region has a mild climate. There are a large number of lakes with perfectly clean water, some even insist that it is safe to drink. All lakes are suitable for swimming children, since in the summer the water can warm up to 28 degrees. The region is also ideal for those who like to sunbathe, but at the same time avoid a hot climate - the average air temperature in summer is about 25 degrees Celsius, but even 30-degree heat is well tolerated.

How to get to Carinthia and what is good about it?

You can get to the lakes of Carinthia by either personal car, and on the other ground transport. This way, you can easily go on a trip with the whole family. If you wish, you can use air transport services: for this you should take tickets to the city of Klagenfurt (the administrative center of Carinthia), most likely you will need a transfer in Vienna. The cost of one ticket to Klagenfurt in the summer of 2019 is approximately 17 thousand rubles. In this city you can rent a car or go to the lakes by public transport.

The infrastructure of the Carinthia region is well suited for a good holiday. There are resort towns and hotels on the shores of the lakes. At the same time, the service in hotel establishments is almost always excellent: tourists are provided with comfort, excellent communications, good breakfasts, friendly and always ready to help staff. In addition to lakes, Carinthia has many interesting places. So, you can go on an excursion to the castle, host knightly tournaments, ride bicycles or walk along mountain trails.

Wörthersee

The crown jewel of the region, Wörthersee, is Austria's largest lake. It is located just 4 kilometers from Klagenfurt, so the lake can be easily reached by taxi.

The water in the lake is warm; on sunny summer days it can warm up to 27 degrees.

Near the lake there are such resorts as Velden, Krumpendorf, Pertschach.

Where to stay on the banks of the Wörthersee? In the listed populated areas there are hotels, guest houses, boarding houses, apartments. I must say that the resort is quite respectable and the most popular in the country, and therefore the cost of living is very high. Thus, a three-star hotel located a couple of kilometers from the lake will cost a family of three about 7 thousand rubles per day. Accommodation in guest house right on the shore of the lake will take about 11 thousand rubles a day from the family budget.

There are beaches and various sports grounds on the banks of the Wörthersee. Swimming areas, as a rule, are piers or lawns, where sun loungers and umbrellas are located, and there is an entrance to the water. Volleyball courts, jogging tracks and much more create all the conditions for a good rest for all family members. You can also enjoy water activities: skiing or banana boating, taking a leisurely boat trip or windsurfing, as well as fishing.

If you are tired of sunbathing, swimming and playing sports, you should go to Klagenfurt. The Old Town area is considered one of the most beautiful in Austria: go to the town hall building, visit central square and enjoy the spray from the fountain, admire the ancient Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. Those who love fairy tales (both adults and children) should definitely visit Zygguln Castle, whose history dates back to the 16th century.

From simpler, but interesting places for children:

  • Minimundus Miniature Park, which houses more than 150 miniature copies of world landmarks.
  • Teenagers will definitely enjoy the planetarium of the Astronomical Union of Carinthia.
  • If you have time and opportunity, take your family and children to the Gurktal Gnome Park, located a few tens of kilometers from the lake. A children's railway, figurines of representatives of the little people and the opportunity to make a souvenir for yourself - all this awaits visitors to the park.

Klopeinersee

The lake is the warmest among all in the region: the water heats up to 28 degrees. It is located 30 kilometers from Klagenfurt and can be easily reached by train.

The main local resorts - Klopein, Seelach, Unterburg - have a large number of hotel establishments. A three-star hotel, built a 6-minute walk from the beach, will cost a family of three about 7 thousand rubles per day. Do you have the funds? You can stay in a luxury golf hotel with two swimming pools, a spa area, many courts and a golf course for about 12 thousand rubles per night.

The beaches at the resort are similar to Wörthersee, but in the north of the lake, near the town of Klopein, there are special coves for swimming for the youngest tourists. The lake is suitable for those who love leisure: in the surrounding area there are many routes for walking and cycling, surfing and diving schools, and fishing equipment rentals. Children will appreciate horseback riding, a popular activity at the resort.

If you want to appreciate the natural beauty of Austria, but the lake is not enough, book an excursion to Wildenstein Falls. This 54-meter giant is located at the top of a steep serpentine, so only prepared tourists can get there, but those who get there will definitely enjoy the beauty of the seething stream.

The resort itself is family-oriented, so it has many children's playgrounds and experienced animators.

However, from the Klopeinersee resorts you can easily reach the children's amusement parks listed in the previous section.

Kitchen and shopping

In catering establishments you can taste mainly Austrian cuisine, but due to the proximity of reservoirs, the emphasis is on dishes from river and lake fish. Farmer's cheeses and krapfen dumplings are also popular in the region. For desserts, you should enjoy strudel, and for drinks, try cider and schnapps.

In the towns of Carinthia there are both large shopping centers, and many souvenir shops. If everything is clear with high-quality clothing and equipment in Europe, then what should you bring as a reminder of your vacation in Austria? This could be things like:

  • wood crafts;
  • National costumes;
  • souvenir related to Mozart;
  • alcoholic drinks.

Lakes of Salzkammergut

Another resort region of Austria is Salzkammergut. This mountainous area is rich in lakes - there are about 75 of them - and is also popular among tourists. The mild climate makes vacation comfortable, and the abundance of attractions in the towns makes it also interesting.

How to get to Salzkammergut and what is interesting in the region?

The closest airport to this region is Salzburg Air Gate. If you cannot travel to Austria by car, it would be optimal to take a ticket to this city - traveling by plane in the summer of 2019 will cost about 10 thousand rubles. Then you can go to the resort by car, train, or regular bus.

The resort's infrastructure is adapted to the needs of a wide range of tourists: there are many camping sites, but also standard hotel establishments. In addition, a wide variety of entertainment is possible - from relaxing in the spa complex to renting sports equipment, from visiting natural beauty to walking through small villages.

Wolfgangsee

The lake with crystal clear water of glacial origin is very popular among vacationers. Picturesque mountains surround it on all sides, which allows you to enjoy peace and find harmony. The reservoir is located 30 kilometers from Salzburg, and the water in it warms up to about 23 degrees.

The main resorts of the beautiful land are St. Wolfgang, Strobl, St. Gilgen. You can stay at the resort, for example, in a simple guest house - such accommodation will cost a family of three people in the amount of approximately 2 thousand rubles per day. There are also luxurious options: accommodation on the lake shore in a luxury hotel with a spa center, swimming pool, and restaurants will take about 19 thousand rubles a day from the family budget.

The beaches on the lake are mostly grassy areas with wooden piers. Many hotels have small pools, because the lake is not as warm as the lakes of Carinthia, and on cold days you can still not deprive yourself of the joys of swimming.

Activities such as playing tennis, fishing, horseback riding are very popular; operetta, jazz, and folk music festivals are often held in the region.

While relaxing on the lake, you should go to the town of St. Wolfgang. Be sure to visit main cathedral, where, which is very unusual for Catholic churches, there are two ancient altars, go to the Pilgrim Fountain, stroll through the small charming streets.

Fearless teenagers will surely enjoy a trip through the ancient railway Schafbergbahn. This steep path leads from the town to the top of the Schafberg mountain, from where you can take in the surrounding area. Well, kids will appreciate a trip to the local Doll Museum, where they can admire three hundred cute exhibits. In addition, the resort has many playgrounds for children.

Mondsee

The lake is located 25 kilometers from Salzburg and is suitable for families with children due to the fact that the water in it warms up to as much as 26 degrees during the high season. The region is very popular among the Austrians themselves, but there is no influx of noisy compatriots here.

The main resorts are Mondsee and St. Lorenz. A family of three can stay a 12-minute walk from the beach in a guest house, which will have all the infrastructure necessary for children, for about 9 thousand rubles a day. A luxurious hotel, located in an ancient monastery and at the same time perfectly restored, with a spa area, a swimming pool and a restaurant, will cost a family about 17 thousand rubles per day.

Mondsee is different in that there is even one sand beach. You can ride a boat on the lake water skiing, go sailing, go fishing. In addition, such understandable entertainment as tennis and golf, but also such unique ones as archery, are available.

Visit not only the beaches, but also the main resort towns themselves. In them you will find a traditional market square, small churches, National Museum. In about an hour's drive you can reach the interesting community of Hallstatt, Europe's oldest listed village. world heritage UNESCO. Be sure to visit the salt mines - a landmark of the entire region.

If the children suddenly get bored, you can go to the Faistenau rope park, which is located just a few tens of kilometers from the lake. In addition, there is a water complex equipped not only with convenient descents into the water, but also with water slides and a playground - everything that little tourists need.

Kitchen and shopping

The resort also offers Austrian cuisine: schnitzels, potato salad, desserts. However, you should definitely try at least the local trout.

The best shopping in Salzkammergut is shopping in St. Wolfgang. This city is distinguished by an abundance of original, unique souvenirs:

  • soap products;
  • healing salts and clay;
  • national costumes and accessories;
  • ceramics;
  • antique souvenirs.

In addition to those listed above, there are many other lakes in Austria that are suitable for a complete family holiday. Some of them have a low water temperature, so they are not suitable for children, while others, on the contrary, will allow you to spend at least the whole day in the water.

More details about Austrian lakes in the video: All Austrian lakes are located in picturesque areas with healing air, surrounded by mountains or forests, which makes the holiday so pleasant. And small towns, where ancient architecture and European comfort are combined, will allow you to spend your time even better. If your family budget allows it, be sure to go to the lakes of Austria in 2019!

Lakes of Austria

Between Lake Constance in the west of Austria and Lake Neusiedler See in the east of the country there are about a hundred large and almost a thousand small mountain lakes and ponds.

You have the opportunity to choose between an outdoor swimming pool, a quiet pond or a lake where active sports life is in full swing. The country cares about the cleanliness of the waters in its lakes. Drainage systems and methods for improving the water in lakes have led to the fact that the waters of most lakes in Austria are comparable in quality to drinking water.

Listed below are Austrian regions famous for their lakes, which are suitable for swimming and are centers where you can practice a variety of water sports.

The most famous Austrian lakes by region

VORARLBERG
