Do I need a visa to Shenzhen China? How to get from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. Bus from Hong Kong to Macau

As you know, there are now problems with obtaining visas to China, but there is a loophole, even two.
One obtaining a visa for 5 days in Shenzhen and the second one month in China in Hong Kong from the famous Mr. Shao
Below is about the 5 day visa:

If you urgently need to get from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, but do not have a visa... then you can get a 5-day visa at the Lo Wu/Luohu border crossing (Hong Kong-Shenzhen). Visa to Lo Wu/Luohu is issued from 6.00-23.30 hours.

So you are in Hong Kong. At the border in Hong Kong you may be asked: “Where is the visa to China?” Feel free to answer that you will receive a 5-day visa to Shenzhen at the Chinese border.

After crossing the Hong Kong border, without getting in line with the Chinese customs officers, turn left and go up the escalator to the 2nd floor, to the visa office. Fill out a short form in the simplest form, which indicates your full name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, passport expiration date, residential address in Shenzhen and signature. I didn’t indicate the address, but the official said that it didn’t really matter.

To the right of the entrance to the office there is an automatic registration desk for visitors; click on the icon and a receipt with a number will come out. Submit this receipt along with your passport and application form. If you are not a young girl, then problems, as a rule, do not arise. The official checks the documents, says OK and hands the documents to the neighbor.

There is an electronic display above each window; when your number appears, you will need to come up. The second approach to an official is based on payment. The cost of a 5-day visa for Russians is 393 yuan. You can pay in cash or using a Chinese card. There is a sign that they accept credit cards, possibly Russian ones, but there is only the Unionpay logo.

The total time from starting to fill out the application form to receiving my passport with a visa took me 9 minutes. The visa takes up the entire page of the passport; the type of visa is not indicated, only the number.

The visa is only valid within Shenzhen. In principle, people can travel outside of Shenzhen on these visas, but then there will be problems when checking into hotels. Visas are not checked on domestic trains and planes.
Unfortunately, travel is also only possible to Hong Kong. You cannot, for example, fly to Beijing and fly there to a foreign country.

The same 5-day visa is issued 24 hours a day at the Huangan border crossing (Shenzhen-Hong Kong) and, according to as yet unconfirmed data, at the ferry terminal in Shekou.

Most often, foreigners living in China travel to Hong Kong for the purpose of affixing a customs stamp, since the maximum period of residence for business and tourist visas in China is about 1-3 months. This is the so-called “visa wound”, that is, a departure to update the visa corridor. Usually, to renew a visa, people travel to the following destinations: Macau, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam. But the most popular and convenient route is still traveling to Hong Kong via Shenzhen.

Shenzhen is a city bordering Hong Kong with several checkpoints, both land and sea. The bulk of all tourists enter Hong Kong through this city.
Let's consider the main checkpoints and transitions from China to Hong Kong, their pros and cons.

Border crossings Shenzhen - Hong Kong

There are 6 border control points between Shenzhen and Hong Kong:

ShenzhenWan / 深圳湾口岸

At the port of Shenzhen, you can purchase a bus ticket and go directly to Hong Kong via the road bridge. Bus services connect the port to all areas of Hong Kong, including the Airport and Disneyland.
Nearest metro: Dengliang
Opening hours are from 6:30 to 0:00.

Huanggang port /皇岗口岸

The only 24-hour checkpoint from Shenzhen to Hong Kong.
The disadvantage of this port is that the port does not have a metro station, and you will have to get to the city by bus or taxi. Bus service to the port is also 24 hours (including Hong Kong Airport.)
Opening hours: 24 hours.

Luohu / 罗湖口岸

The most popular crossing through which the main passenger flow to and from Hong Kong passes. Located in close proximity to Shenzhen Railway Station. Long queues are possible during rush hours and on holidays.
Subway station: Luohu station, In Hong Kong, transfer from – LoWu station.
Opening hours: 6:30 to 0:00

Shatou jiao port/ 沙头角口岸

Located in the eastern part of Shenzhen, 25 km from the city center.
In Hong Kong, the crossing is in the Sha Tau Kok area.
The crossing's opening hours are from 7:00 to 22:00.

Wenjindu Port / 文锦渡口岸

The quietest of all the crossings, even on holidays it is not quite crowded. There are practically no queues as such. Located in the Luohu area.
The subway station in ShZh is Wenjin station, in Hong Kong the transition in the area is Man Kam To.
Opening hours from 7:00 to 22:00.

Futian port / 福田口岸

The second most popular passenger crossing. It is located relatively close to the city center.
Subway station in Shenzhen: Futian port. In Hong Kong, exit to the station is Lok Ma Chau.
Opening hours: from 7:00 to 22:00.

Other checkpoints

  1. Shenzhen BaoAn airport - flights and buses
  2. Fuyong port - ferry.
  3. Shekou port is a luxury speed boat.
  4. Shenzhen North station and Futian railway station - high-speed train.
It should be noted that the operating hours of border crossings may change on holidays. Some of them do not work during national holidays, and some, on the contrary, work on extended hours.

The border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong can be crossed in 15 minutes if there are no crowds of Chinese there. There are several border crossings between the special economic zone in southern China and its special administrative region, and on one side or the other, the city center can be reached by different routes.

Shenzhen metro map.

You can get there by car, by ferry, or by bus, but we will only tell you about our short experience of crossing the border at the land border crossing, and most importantly, we got to the border by metro. You can walk, for example, along the Luohu - Lo Wu crossing; there is also a train station on the mainland side, but according to our host, this crossing is very busy.

Therefore, we decided to go to the Futian Checkpoint station, where there is a bridge across the small Shenzhen River with checkpoints on both sides. This crossing is less crowded, the terminal is modern and quite spacious. When we rise from the metro, passport control counters are waiting for us on the third floor.

There you need to fill out a departure card; the Chinese looked at our photos and work residence permit stickers for a long time and stamped our departure next to them. With these residence permits, we can freely cross the border, but unlike residents of Shenzhen living in the border area, we do not need to obtain a visa to Hong Kong, which is quite difficult for them.

Next we walked across the bridge (cover photo). Convenient passenger conveyors speed up the journey, we fill out the arrival card and the special region stamp is already in our passport, and we arrived at the Lok Ma Chau metro station, the eastern line of the Hong Kong metro. The exchange office is on the ground floor, where we changed a small amount so that it would be enough for travel to our hostel.

How to get from the Chinese border to central Hong Kong

For those who do not want to waste time, we advise you to immediately go up to the second floor and jump on the MTR metro, which will take you directly to the Kowloon area, the fare is 38 Hong Kong dollars and in an hour you can already get to the surface in the hostel area. And for those who have time and want to save a couple of tens of dollars, we advise you to go to the center by bus.

We had time and we chose this path, it will take more time, about two hours. The first thing that had to be done was to find a way out of the border zone. Everything is done so that passengers would move without hesitation to the entrance of the metro line, which is on the second floor. The exit from the terminal to the street is inconspicuously hidden on the left, immediately after the exit beyond the border control line.

Bus terminal. Bus stop B1

At the bus stop, we first jump on the double-decker bus B1 for HKD 12$, which will take us to Yuen Long (it’s better to immediately change the money into coins so that you have something to throw on the bus).

We are immediately surprised, we see that we are in a special place - left-hand traffic, crowds of expats, and many Chinese who speak English, free access to all sites blocked in mainland China.

In the Yuen Long area, you need to change to the next bus - 268B, it goes directly to Kowloon, for example, Tsim Sha Tsui East metro station.

The main secret is that it goes to the center not from the same stop where the B1 bus brings us, but from the opposite side (approximately from McDonald's).

Bus stop 268B

The fare costs HKD 17$. In the evening we arrived at the metro station, exchanged yuan for local dollars (if you change amounts from 1000 yuan, the rate will be close to the official bank rate) and checked into the New China Guesthouse, which is located in the Chungking Mansion building. We can only hope that crossing the border from Hong Kong to Shenzhen on the way back will be just as easy.

If you are going to Guangzhou, Shenzhen or another city in southern China, then it makes sense to go to Hong Kong, since you do not need a visa (for up to 14 days). There you can walk among the skyscrapers, breathe the sea air and go to the Big Buddha. This trip will add variety to your business travel, and tickets to Hong Kong may be cheaper than to Guangzhou or Shenzhen. If you follow this advice and fly to Hong Kong, it will be helpful to know how to get from Hong Kong to mainland China.

Hong Kong borders the Chinese city of Shenzhen. You can get there from Hong Kong by subway, minivan or ferry. We chose the metro. I'll tell you how it was.

You need to go to Lo Wu station or Lok Ma Chau (the last stations on the blue line). The border at Lo Wu is busier as the line goes to Shenzhen Central Station. Therefore, we decided to cross the border at Lok Ma Chau station.

We boarded the East Tsim Sha Tsui MRT at 5:25 pm. The fare was 39.5 HKD. At 18:05 we were at the border. First there was Hong Kong customs. There was a monstrous crowd of people and several queues. We stood in one of the long queues. To our surprise, the line moved smoothly, and we got through quite quickly. We thought it was Chinese passport control and were surprised that we were not stamped to enter the country. The guard we met explained that Chinese passport control was ahead. An even more impressive number of people gathered there. But the line moved so quickly that we barely had time to fill up the Arrival Card. It took us about an hour to get through both checkpoints.

So, we ended up in China. It's time to switch to a new currency. There are Bank of China ATMs right behind passport control, so we had no trouble withdrawing money using a bank card. It makes sense to withdraw, say, not 500 yuan, but 490. The fact is that you can continue your journey by subway, and large bills are not accepted in the machines for buying tokens. A metro ride for three people cost us 12 yuan (the cost depends on the distance, we traveled 8 stations without transfers). The metro is clean, comfortable and modern. There are elevators and toilets inside. One of the inconveniences is that luggage is scanned at every entrance to the metro. This is acceptable at regular stations, but creates long queues at this crowded station.

How else can you get from Hong Kong to Shenzhen?

If you arrive at Hong Kong airport and immediately travel to Shenzhen, it is convenient to take the ferry. There is no need to collect luggage or go through passport control at the airport. You can read more about how to find a ferry and how much it costs . There you can also find information about buses that go from Hong Kong airport to Shenzhen.

We will tell you how to easily get from Shenzhen to Hong Kong.

We will highlight for you the most important things you should know when traveling to Hong Kong.

  • During the border crossing, you do not need to go anywhere or move to other terminals, the entire process takes place along the exit route and the last station.
  • If you plan to travel from China to Hong Kong and then re-enter China, you should ensure that your visa allows re-entry. If you have a tourist visa for one entry and exit, then you will not be able to get back to China, since you will be marked “exit” at customs.
  • You can exchange money for Hong Kong dollars before and after the border without leaving the metro.

Instructions on how to get to the Hong Kong border by Shenzhen metro:

To get to Hong Kong Customs, you need to take the subway to the last station in Shenzhen. The name of the station in Shenzhen is Luohu, Hong Kong name: Lo Wu. Afterwards, you must go to the customs entrance, there will be signs that will prevent you from getting lost. 2nd floor for foreigners , 3rd floor for the Chinese. Before customs you need to fill out a migration card, only after that you can go through customs control. You then enter the area between Hong Kong and China. When you find yourself in this zone, you go through a second customs control, according to the same scheme, foreigners on the 2nd floor , the Chinese are in 3rd. Once you've crossed the border, you'll be on the Hong Kong MRT, which costs approximately HK$42 to get to the center. Tickets can be purchased through an electronic terminal or through the box office. You receive a ticket in the form of a card, which under no circumstances should you lose , since you will use the same card to exit the metro.
