"Tours without Russians." Europeans are willing to pay extra for a vacation without tourists from Russia. Where in Thailand are there no Russian tourists? Resorts where there are few Russians

If during your upcoming vacation you want to take a break not only from work and worries, but also from your fellow countrymen, then we offer you a choice of several resorts where it will be almost impossible to meet Russian tourists.

“My endless love for travel was born in the vastness of Africa,” is how those few tourists who were lucky enough to visit Djibouti describe their unforgettable vacation. A small and by no means rich country, located between Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia, has almost lost the light touch of European civilization brought by French colonists. But neither poverty nor the underdeveloped tourism industry can deprive Djibouti of its attractiveness. In complete solitude and in unity with wild, desert nature, guests greet enchanting sunrises that illuminate one of the saltiest lakes in the world, Assal, with a light and magical light. As soon as the celestial body rises higher, they will take a trip on a high-speed yacht to the islands in the Gulf of Tadjoura - to one of the most picturesque coral reefs on the planet, where you can swim surrounded by whale sharks. And in the evening, when the sun drops below the horizon, the endless fields of black lava become indescribably beautiful, reminiscent of the landscapes of distant Mars. There are no direct flights between Russia and Djibouti, and the only major European airline flying to Djibouti operates twice-weekly flights from Paris.

The remote Pacific nation, part of the Commonwealth of Nations and comprising 83 islands in an archipelago called the New Hybrids, is ideal for a relaxing beach holiday. The capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila, and the two most tourist islands, Efate and Espiritu Santo, offer excellent diving conditions. Deep canyons cutting through the ocean floor are strewn with the remains of sunken ships, and thousands of unprecedented underwater monsters scurry in the labyrinths of coral reefs. Adrenaline maniacs and lovers of extreme recreation will enjoy a trip to the crater of the active Yasur volcano, located on the island of Tanna, and ecotourists will enjoy birdwatching and trekking along forest paths. The beaches of the island of Espiritu Santo attract with endless expanses of pink sand, and the museums of Port Vila with the largest collection of artifacts collected from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. And although Russians do not need visas to get to Vanuatu, here, unlike neighboring Fiji, you practically won’t find “Russian tourists”. After all, few people decide to spend a day on the road, making several transfers, and finding a tour operator offering a vacation in Vanuatu is not so easy.

Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, this remote island has everything you need for a great holiday: friendly natives, panoramic views and stunning beaches. And Madagascar itself is a continent in miniature. Here are high mountain peaks scratching the sky, and once-violent volcanoes, plunged into sleep, and green blankets of valleys, cut through the beds of blue rivers, and impenetrable tropical forests, and bare, almost lifeless semi-deserts. Here the melodic Malagasy language was born and an amazing civilization arose, incorporating the culture of the Indonesians, Bushmen and Pygmies. As soon as you set foot on the soil of Madagascar, you will probably find yourself in the territory of one of the national parks - the intricate limestone labyrinths of Tsingy de Bemaraha, the evergreen forests of Perine, inhabited by lemurs, or the picturesque expanses of Montagne d'Ambre, full of chameleons and rare birds. There is only one thing missing on the miracle island - luxury hotels, and, accordingly, crowds of guests from Russia. In order to get to the wonderful island, you will have to use the services of Air France flights - there are no direct flights between Madagascar and Russia.

For those who are attracted by mysterious lands, there is no better place than Laos. Life in the sleepy kingdom, lost in the depths of Indochina and once friends with the Soviet Union, flows slowly. Here everyone lives by the rule “The lotus is not broken, the water is not disturbed, and the fish are caught”: buses are delayed for several hours, and even revolutions take place surprisingly calmly. There are almost no tourists or crime in Laos, and peace-loving Buddhist monks living on donations easily get along with drug dealers. Laotian lands are full of wonderful places that are rarely seen even in photographs. At the exotic market on the “island” of Don Sao (the territory of Laos, where there is a visa-free regime), you can buy real curiosities, for example, a snake preserved in a bottle. The strange Buddha Park near Wentian, built by the local enlightened Bunlya Sulilat, hides hordes of stone monsters and a thousand faces of the Great Sage. The Mekong River, which separates the country from Myanmar and Thailand, is surrounded by photogenic rice fields, and the UNESCO-listed city of Luang Prabang is adorned by a temple complex. You can only get to Laos from other countries in Southeast Asia: Cambodia, China, Thailand and Vietnam.

Television programs telling about Northern Cyprus scare potential tourists with scary stories. They say that in the Turkish Republic, unrecognized by the world, you can perish in broad daylight, without hoping for help. In fact, this “black hole” has a relaxed Mediterranean spirit. Any guests are welcome here, and complete isolation from civilization exists only on screens. Prices for services in completely European hotels are much lower than in Southern Cyprus, popular among tourists, and the coasts are so clean that they are worthy of the Blue Flag. Sea turtles lay their eggs on Alagadi Beach, and Escape Beach is popular with clubbers. On the territory of Northern Cyprus there are also many architectural monuments: the castle of St. Hilarion, which served as a medieval military base, the Abbey of Bellapais, founded by the first ruler of Cyprus, and the old city of Salamis, where the Apostle Mark preached. Shops abound with airy lace from Lefkara, striped mats from Famagusta, local raki vodka and the freshest sheep's hellim cheese. Although there are no direct flights from Russia to Northern Cyprus, you can get here by plane from Istanbul if you have a Turkish visa.

Last winter, when the dollar was at 80, and prices for trips from tour operators skyrocketed, we quite by accident found cheap tickets from Moscow to Bangkok. At that time, all we knew about Thailand was that tourists from Russia relax in the city of bars and brothels Pattaya or on the beach holiday island of Phuket, but we wanted history, culture, architecture and... fewer compatriots. Having scoured the Internet, we built a route for our a two-week trip to the most interesting places in Thailand, where there are no Russian tourists.

Where in Thailand are there no Russian tourists?

Our the route included visits to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Sukhothai and Sam Roi Yot Beach- a wild place in the south of the country. We booked hotels, found them on the map and set off to conquer that , which is located away from popular tourist routes. We traveled between cities on comfortable night buses, ate in street cafes, talked with local residents and admired the stunning monuments of Siamese architecture. There really weren’t any Russian tourists on our route., except for a few people in Bangkok.

Sights of Bangkok

To see all the sights of Bangkok, it takes a lot of time. For those who are as limited in time as we are, worth to visit:

  • Royal Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha;
  • Wat Pho;
  • Wat Arun;

and also take a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River, to feel the atmosphere of this city of contrasts. You can get around the city by taxi, metro or bus.

Northern capital of Thailand

Chiang Mai, the second most populous city, is called the northern cultural capital of Thailand. In the Middle Ages, the Lanna kingdom was located here, which is why the architecture differs from Siamese. You can walk around the old city in a couple of days or go around by songthaew, and There are about 40 ancient Buddhist temple complexes here! Here the most interesting of them:

  • Wat Chedi Luang Wora Wiharn;
  • Wat Lok Molee;
  • Wat Chiang Mun;
  • Wat Pa PaoDoiSuthep, which is located outside the city. We also went to zoo and looked at the wonderful pandas.

How to get to Sukhothai

The Thai kingdom of Sukhothai was founded in the 13th century and lasted only 150 years. Now it's the ruins are located in the historical park, which can be walked around in a day or by bike or tuk-tuk. This place lies away from popular tourist routes, so travelers often don't know how to get to Sukhothai, and refuse to visit him. In fact, it's simple. We arrived in Sukhothai from Chiang Mai by regular bus, but you can also get there from Bangkok Mochit bus station.

Sam Roy Yot Beach

We decided to spend the last days of our vacation in Sam Roi Yot Beach, about which tourists from Russia know nothing. Desertion, turquoise sea and cave Praya Nakhon- that's why we came here. Getting here is not so easy: from the Mochit bus station you need to get to the village of Sam Roi Yot, and from there to Sam Roi Yot Beach by taxi.

This trip was the brightest and most eventful in recent years. The memories still take my breath away! But in order to travel to places in Thailand where there are no Russian tourists, You need to speak English at a good conversational level.

When there is freedom, it is good. But when there is too much of it, that’s when serious problems begin. When a person is on his territory, he somehow restrains himself and tries to behave somehow reasonably.

But once you find yourself, for example, abroad, there are no barriers, no restrictions. People believe that whatever they do in another country will remain in it.

But in practice this leads to much more global consequences. This forms an opinion, and it is not always quite positive. Therefore, a rather biased attitude has developed towards a number of nationalities abroad.

And the Russians are among them. Moreover, alas, this is one of the most unloved nations abroad - after, perhaps, the Germans. And in most cases it’s not about the general attitude towards the nation, but about the attitude towards those tourists who are not aware of anything, who allow themselves too many freedoms abroad.

Let's look at 10 countries where they don't like Russian tourists - and when visiting them, it is advisable to take this fact into account - and, who knows, maybe this negative opinion will be completely changed.

10. Ukraine

Location: Western part of Ukraine

Of course, many will object to this statement, because Russians and Ukrainians have always considered themselves almost brothers. But the fact remains that sometimes you can stumble upon a real misunderstanding.

If you speak Russian, then you risk that you will be treated somewhat biasedly, and also that you will not, for example, be served in restaurants and other places with public service as well as if you spoke Ukrainian. It's a shame, but true. Although not everywhere, fortunately.

9. Türkiye

Location: all regions

Although you can hear a lot of unpleasant words from Russians about the behavior of Turks in the tourist area, you can hear even more of the opposite. Russian women are often criticized by Turkish women who consider them too promiscuous.

Men are criticized for other vices: love for excessive drinking, inability to behave competently when the action takes place at a buffet table, and so on. And there are more than enough myths about Russians, each more incredible than the other.

8. France

Location: Courchevel

Of all the places in France, this wonderful ski resort has the reputation of being the most loved by Russians. This has been going on since the collapse of the USSR, and although the majority of modern visitors to the resort are educated people, everyone still avoids Russians - they sometimes behave very shockingly. Although most of the service is still aimed specifically at Russians - you cannot find a restaurant that does not have a menu compiled in the appropriate language.

7. India

Location: Goa

Goa has long been considered one of the favorite Russian resorts. But many Russians who come there, to put it mildly, do not contribute to improving the image of their own country. Many crimes, oddly enough, are committed in Goa by Russians.

Moreover, often we are not even talking about tourists, but rather those people who have registered in Goa, started some small, not very legal business, and so on. Although India has tourism benefits from this nation, its losses are also high.

6. Egypt

Location: all regions

It is possible, in fact, to duplicate the situation with Turkey. On the one hand, they love Russian tourists here. They bring very big profits - but there are also a lot of problems from them.

Although Egyptians are also not known for their overly modest behavior, Russians often go beyond all reasonable boundaries with their parties, get-togethers and alcohol consumption. That’s why their reputation cannot be called overly positive; they are not liked here very much.

5. Latvia

Location: Riga

For many, the attitude of the Baltic residents towards the Russians will be inexplicable - some consider them almost blood brothers, while others, on the contrary, cannot stand them. Sometimes you can hear Latvians sarcastically discussing Russians, hoping that they do not understand their language. The following recommendation is usually given - when visiting Latvia, speak English to each other. Then you will be served more quickly in various establishments.

4. Germany

Location: all regions

It’s a paradox – the Germans are considered one of those nations from which tourists are usually disliked abroad. But they also show open antipathy towards tourists from Russia. Is it nothing other than competition?

However, in a number of situations they can be understood. For example, people here don’t really understand such a passionate attitude towards “freebies”. After all, if you provide a Russian with a buffet, which is a common thing in Germany, then he can get carried away to such an extent that he will have to hint that it’s time to finish.

3. Italy

Location: all regions

Italy has always been famous for its wine. It is considered one of the best in the world, and therefore the residents of this country are well versed in alcohol. But they cannot consume it in such quantities as the Russians. In the country, it is customary to savor drinks, and not take them for fun. This trait greatly irritates the locals. But, we must admit, Italians are also very noisy people, especially when it comes to watching sports broadcasts.

2. Greece

Location: all regions

And the situation with Turkey and Egypt is repeated again. Russians visit this country very often - the reason for this is the low, especially by European standards, prices.

And for some reason, the low price liberates people and allows them to believe that everything is now possible, and therefore reckless behavior creeps in here and there. And the Greeks are beginning to be very skeptical about Russian tourists, although they provide them with a wide range of services.

1. USA

Location: all regions

Perhaps the best example of how Russian tourists can be prejudiced. Alas, the consequences of information wars are still fresh in memory, and therefore both Americans are biased towards Russians, and vice versa. And this is expressed not only in visa problems, which also occur. This is also expressed in the fact that, walking down the street, if you speak your native language, you will probably feel sideways glances at you.

Are you familiar with the situation? You are tired of work, the daily routine, people and chatter, you have finally waited for your cherished vacation, you decided to restore your physical strength and mental balance at one of the resorts in hospitable Turkey, but... everything did not go according to plan! You are in a sunny, overseas country, sunbathing on a sun lounger near the pool, disconnected from all your worries and problems, and suddenly you hear: “Can you find a cigarette?” You open your eyes, and in front of you is a typical representative of the Russian people. And then discussions begin on the political situation in Ukraine, the features of a “refined” vacation in Russian... Or you are woken up by drunken conversations about the popular Tagil at three in the morning... If you prefer not just spending time in Turkey, but a vacation without Russian neighbors, then a selection of hotels from the site is especially for you.

Such a trend as tours without Russians has been gaining momentum for a long time, but if previously it was relevant only for residents of developed countries in Europe, the USA and the like, now even their Ukrainian neighbors do not want to deal with Russians.

In my opinion, tours without Russians as a sales area in travel agencies (as opposed to independently organized tours) is still a certain discrimination. But there is demand, which means there will be supply. Logically, the popularity of such tours can be explained very simply: the mentality of some Russian residents is so different from the mentality of Western citizens that they simply feel uncomfortable relaxing next to each other. Needless to say, sometimes Russians themselves ask travel agencies to send them on tours without Russians. If we talk about an organized trip through a travel agent, then this is impossible for Russians (otherwise it will no longer be a tour without Russians), and for Ukrainians it is very difficult (you will understand why later), but organizing such a vacation on your own is quite possible.

A short excursion

When we went on our last trip to Tanzania and the UAE, the task of not meeting “friendly” neighbors on vacation was very urgent, since we really didn’t want to get into political debates with them, which they love to start if they hear that you are from Ukraine .

I can explain to them why in my country everything is this way and not otherwise, but, as experience shows, this does not give results. For example, on one of our trips to Thailand we had a very close conversation with a Russian. Then Euromaidan was on the agenda. Our interlocutor himself began to take an interest in what was happening in our country. But when we started explaining to him simple things about the violation of human rights, about Yanukovych the dictator, about total corruption, about the infringement of small and medium-sized businesses, about the seizure of property, it turned out that he already knew about it. “This is all understandable, but I can’t understand anything else: why do you want to remove Yanukovych? Just think, corruption, violations of rights, this is how we live too, but it’s still normal. Is there something that doesn’t suit you?” - he asked sincerely several times. At this point it became clear: it was simply pointless to explain anything further.

And when the situation worsened not only within Ukraine itself, but also between Ukraine and Russia, it became obvious that in the next couple of years it would be better to secure a vacation during which you would not have to talk about politics with your opponents.

As a result, we managed to put together a tour where we only heard Russian spoken by chance on the street a couple of times, and never met Russians on excursions or in the hotel. I'll tell you how we did it.

How we chose a tour without Russians

The first and main rule is do not buy a tour through a travel agency. Unless you purchase a bus tour, for example, from Ukraine, where everyone is their own. The problem is that travel agencies often direct clients to Russian-language hotels. In addition, our travel agencies most often purchase tours from tour operators from Russia. This is especially true for such destinations as Egypt (currently tours from Russia are prohibited, but at the time of reading the article they may already be allowed), Turkey (similarly), Thailand (there are so-called travel agencies for Russians), Vietnam, Dominican Republic and the like. Well, where there is a Russian tour operator, there are tours with Russians.

Choosing a hotel without Russians

Also, those who want to avoid meeting Russians abroad should abandon the soviet psychology when choosing a hotel. For example, there is a very high probability of ending up in the same hotel with a large number of Russians if you choose something like this:

A city resort hotel that allows you to relax to the fullest and is convenient for going on excursions;

All inclusive hotel;

A hotel about which there are many Russian-language reviews on the Internet;

Hotel, rooms in which are booked by Russian tour operators;

Hotel with Russian-speaking staff (almost 100% guarantee of getting to the point);

Hotel with a Russian-language version of the site

Experience shows that Europeans and Americans love hotels in wild, uninhabited places (where you can get away from the big city as much as possible), often with bungalows, they choose a meal plan with breakfast, and pay extra for other meals. This is exactly the hotel we chose in Zanzibar and we were not disappointed. If anyone is interested, this is a hotel. By the way, later the hotel confirmed to us that there are almost never Russians there. Their main clientele are Germans.

In addition, there are not many Russians in hostels and in the cheapest city hotels, where there is no entertainment or infrastructure, but only rooms and a dining room. Such hotels are often chosen by travelers who plan to go on endless excursions. Russians love to lie down somewhere near a hotel pool and often do not even leave its territory. We tested the theory of cheap hotels on ourselves in Thailand, and it works.

Excursions without Russians

The second challenge for those who want to go on a tour without Russians will be the choice of excursions. It so happened historically that Ukrainians abroad have to choose Russian-language excursions, because they do not exist in Ukrainian. As a result, of course, you find yourself on a bus full of Russian citizens. This is exactly how, during the Euromaidan, we met the man we talked about above. As soon as these people see your Ukrainian passport or hear your accent, they immediately start pestering you with conversations. At best, they look askance; at worst, a scandal may break out.

This leads to a logical conclusion: the best excursion for a Ukrainian in the coming years is an excursion without Russians, and an excursion without Russians is an excursion in English. It so happened historically that Russian citizens do not like to study foreign languages, and therefore they have to be served in Russian abroad. Still, other nations communicate in English without problems. Therefore, learn English! Moreover, most often during excursions it will be so primitive that you will not need any deep knowledge.

Another option, if you don't know English at all, in big cities you can choose bus tours with an audio guide. There you just click on the Russian language icon (alas, Ukrainian is also, as a rule, nowhere to be found, too few of us travel abroad) and you will fully understand everything that is said.

And the cheapest way out of the situation is to do everything completely yourself. Choose a route, get on a regular bus, come to an excursion site, do not book an excursion, but simply buy a ticket and walk around on your own. Fortunately, now there are a lot of Internet services that allow you to find out the necessary information about the attraction online.

Travel to countries prohibited for Russians

Another great opportunity to avoid encountering Russian citizens on vacation is a trip to a prohibited country. For example, in the Russian Federation, travel to Turkey and Egypt is periodically prohibited, allegedly due to the terrorist threat. If you are not afraid of this threat, you can go to these countries - we guarantee that there will indeed be few Russians. But they will still be there.

Oddly enough, but tours abroad for Russian-speaking Ukrainians can be an excellent opportunity to brush up… on the Ukrainian language. Are you surprised? Do not be surprised. Everything is very simple.

One of the situations in which you can meet Russians abroad is a situation when you are on an excursion, at a dinner table in a hotel, at the reception, or even just on the street, speaking Russian to each other, and one of the residents of the Russian Federation is hears. Russians are sociable people; they can immediately start trying to get to know each other. So, in order to avoid such a situation, you can speak Ukrainian among yourself. This, by the way, will give an additional bonus in the form that residents of Europe, the USA, Canada and other Western countries will not look at you askance, thinking that you are from Russia. Having heard Ukrainian speech, they most likely identify it as Polish. Well, if they find out that you are from Ukraine, they will certainly try to talk to you, but with them, unlike Russians, there will be no conflict, and if you know enough English, it can turn out to be a very interesting conversation.
