Phangan party schedule. Full Moon Party and schedule of parties on Koh Phangan. Every morning at dawn we will practice pranayama, energy practices and meditation

Koh Phangan is a small and fairly calm island in the Gulf of Thailand. However, once a month a grand full moon party is held here, which attracts thousands of young people from all over the world. If you want to have a blast, feel the intoxicating freedom and make new acquaintances, then welcome to the Full moon party. In this article I will tell you when the party is held, how the event works and how to get to Koh Phangan.

2017: January 12, February 12, March 12, April 11, May 11, June 9, July 10, August 7, September 5, October 6, November 3, December 3

2018: January 1, January 31, March 2, March 31, April 29, May 30, June 27, July 29, August 26, September 24, October 25, November 22

Description and photo of the party

Full Moon Party is held in the southern part of Koh Phangan on Haad Rin Beach. Before the party, young people gather here from the very morning in anticipation of the action. Some swim in the sea and sunbathe, others play football, and still others just drink beer on the shore. But they are all looking forward to the brightest event of this island.

With the onset of darkness and the first rays of the moon, incendiary music begins to play, and people begin to dance. There are several dozen dance floors on the beach, where various DJs perform, including world celebrities. Everyone can choose a dance floor with their favorite musical genre: pop, trance, techno, hip-hop, house, reggae, etc. Thousands of tourists flock to the dance floors in bright, acid-colored branded T-shirts and buckets filled with alcohol. And it doesn’t matter whether you know how to dance, it’s important to enjoy your dance and throw out your emotions.

A striking feature of the Full Moon Party is the fire show. The Thais masterfully handle burning objects, which is simply breathtaking. And the bravest ones can climb through a burning circle or jump over a rope blazing with fire. And there are plenty of daredevils at the party.

The event continues until the morning.

After the party, tourists leave for their hotels, and Thais begin to clean up trash on the beach. Although there are those who simply sleep on the sand by the sea. However, the full moon party does not end there; it will continue for two more days. But only the most die-hard party fans will endure the continuation. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people.

Prices

The entrance ticket to the Full moon party on Koh Phangan for tourists costs 100 baht, for Thais admission is free. At the entrance you will be given a bright branded bracelet, which you can then keep as a souvenir. Just don't lose it during the party, otherwise you'll have to pay for admission again.

On the beach where the full moon party is held, items with the symbols of the event are sold. Here you can buy a bright T-shirt, cap, sunglasses, hat for 200-350 baht, and also apply luminous paint on your skin.

Alcohol at the party is sold in plastic buckets, which include a bottle of whiskey, water, a can of soda or juice and ice, as well as several straws included. Then all the drinks and ice are mixed to create a signature cocktail. The cost of such a plastic bucket is from 150 baht and above.

At the party you can not only buy alcohol, but also food in the shops. The prices are quite reasonable.

The Thais at the party are very friendly, hugging all the tourists, and sometimes even kissing them.

Hotels on Koh Phangan

If you plan to be on Koh Phangan for several days before or after the party, it is best to book a hotel in advance. Since during the full moon party, the hotel rooms are almost all occupied, and the prices for the remaining ones soar several times.

I recommend booking a hotel on the Hotelluk service, where you will find rooms at the best prices and can save 20-60% on accommodation.

How to get to the party?

At the moment, you can book a ticket on the website to Koh Phangan from Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and any other point in Thailand. This is very convenient, since you don’t have to go to the station or pier to buy a ticket or stand in line. On the website you will immediately see all the available options and can choose the most suitable ticket for yourself. Prices on the website are the same as at the box office.

The easiest way to get to Koh Phangan is from Koh Samui and Surat Thani province. Just buy a ferry or boat ticket and you will be immediately taken to Koh Phangan.

From Koh Samui, from the pier near Big Buddha, boats sail that take tourists directly to Haad Rin beach on Koh Phangan. They also run during the night and take tourists back to Koh Samui. The cost of this service is 200 baht one way. This method is the most convenient for those who are vacationing on Koh Samui and want to attend a full moon party.

Ferries run from Surat Thani province and Koh Samui to Koh Phangan, but they arrive at the port of Thong Sala, from where you will have to get to Haad Rin beach on your own. And this is approximately 10 kilometers. You can get from the pier to Haad Rin Beach by taxi or songthaew.

See the map for the exact location of Haad Rin Beach.

To ensure that the party brings you only positive emotions and no unpleasant situations arise, follow these recommendations:

  1. Hide money and valuables in your inner pockets, as they can easily be lost in a crowd of people and when drunk, and large parties also attract thieves who can clean out your pockets. It is best to leave valuables at the hotel and do not take large sums of money with you.
  2. Wear sneakers to the party, as during the event there are broken bottles lying on the sand and dancing in flip-flops or barefoot can injure your foot.
  3. Don't bring children to the party.
  4. Do not swim in the sea while drunk, there is a risk of drowning or being carried out to sea by the current.
  5. Never buy drugs from local dealers at a party, the event is monitored by the police and you can easily get caught. And for this case they are big, or even worse, you can go to jail.
  6. Do not take food or alcohol from strangers; make sure that the bottle of alcoholic drink is opened in front of you, otherwise you may be poisoned by low-quality alcohol or drugs may be slipped into your mouth.
  7. Bring a camera to capture the fun of the party, but keep it with you at all times to prevent thieves from stealing it.

If you follow all safety rules, the Full moon party will give you a lot of bright and positive impressions. Its scale and grandeur amazes even avid party-goers. This is also a great way to diversify your holiday on Koh Phangan or Koh Samui.

Full Moon Party (Full Moon Party) on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand: schedule for 2017, photos, reviews, scooter rental on Koh Phangan, how to get there, ferries from Samui and other useful tips.

The beautiful island of Koh Phangan (by the way, my favorite in the country) is located 20 km from Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand.

In general, Koh Phangan is very calm and relaxing, but once a month during the full moon, about 10,000 international tanned bodies flock to a small piece of land from all over Asia to dance on the sand to fiery music and drink alcohol from colorful buckets.

Hotels and bungalows on Koh Phangan

A full moon party takes place every month on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand. The beach where the Full Moon Party is held is located in the south of the island and is called Haad Rin.

If you plan to spend the night on Koh Phangan during the party or +-2 days before or after the party, book your accommodation in advance. On party days on Koh Phangan, almost all the bungalows are occupied, and prices for those that are not occupied jump by 2 times.

You can live on other beaches of the island, and come to the party by bike or songthaew. If you plan to drink alcohol, it is better to leave the bike at home.

50% of travelers walk around the island in bandages and plasters the next morning due to driving while drunk. The road to Haad Rin beach is quite dangerous even during the day (ascents and descents at an angle of 30 degrees).

4. Helmets are completely out of fashion on Koh Phangan, so they are not even offered when renting a scooter. In my opinion, you shouldn’t forget about safety; it’s better to ask for a helmet and put it on your head. It will not be worse.

5. The roads in some areas in the south and north of Koh Phangan are very winding, in some places the angle of inclination reaches 22 degrees. Driving at night is quite dangerous, especially during a party, when tipsy, dashing guys get behind the wheel of scooters and go for a ride. On the night of the Full Moon Party, police officers are on the roads, stopping cars and scooters, checking drivers for sobriety.

How is the Full Moon Party going?

Tanned bodies, flocking to Thailand for a party, first travel by ferry:

Mooring to Koh Phangan:

Already during the day, Haad Rin beach is full of people. Some play the guitar, some play football, but mostly young people drink beer and wait for the action.

Alcohol in buckets is always sold on the island, not just during parties. Thais offer free hugs and sometimes kisses, and also shout funny slogans to attract customers.

Buckets are sold everywhere. Inside is a bottle of cheap whiskey, water and a can of Coke or Sprite with a straw.

The guys dress up in flashy T-shirts with the words Full Moon Party and paint their bodies with paint (it feels like gouache)

You can make yourself a glowing tattoo:

The music thunders until the morning. People are having a blast, dancing on tables, pouring alcohol from buckets on each other and drawing flowers on their bodies:

At the party you can not only drink, but also try Thai fast food:

There is no dress code at the Full Moon Party:

Not only Thai, but also famous foreign DJs often come to Koh Phangan

Thais show fire shows:

I’m not a fan of such events, I hardly drink alcohol, and my stomach hurt that day, so I left at about 12 o’clock. The party lasted until the morning. The next day the beach was unrecognizable.

The water came out about 10 meters, flooding the entire shore and washing away the garbage left behind by the crazy youth. Here and there you could see traces of yesterday's fun: single slates, disposable tableware and beer bottles.

A couple of facts about the party

1. Crowds of young people flock to Koh Phangan. The party is absolutely international. Many Australians, English, Portuguese, Dutch. If on Samui Russian speech is heard everywhere, then on Koh Phangan it is lost, mixed with the sounds of English, Spanish, Italian and German.

2. The price of Full Moon Party T-shirts on the day before the party is 200-350 baht, the next morning the same clothes are sold for 99 baht.

3. There are several toilets at the party, but people still go into the sea

4. It is better to put sneakers on your feet. Firstly, it’s convenient to dance on the sand in them, and secondly, it’s safer, because during the celebration the beach is filled with empty bottles, glass and other garbage. It’s uncomfortable to dance in flip-flops, and it’s risky to dance barefoot.

5. In the morning following the party, people walk along the streets very sluggish and extinct (because they are still drunk). Most people leave Koh Phangan immediately and the island becomes a quiet and peaceful paradise again.

my news

I'm great. Yesterday I chatted on Skype with Vikusik for about an hour, shared what was gnawing at me, discussed the current situation with my beloved friend, received a huge dose of the right words and moral support, now I feel on top again.

After the previous post, they sent me a huge number of messages asking me not to be sour and with wishes of love, but in reality, the experiences and instability of the last days have nothing to do with men. The point is completely different.

From this evening I will be left alone for three, or maybe five days, I will work a lot and try to communicate with people as little as possible, otherwise this accumulated mountain of things will not fit into any gate.

I’m sitting in the yard now, picking at the passion fruit with a spoon and looking thoughtfully at the brown door, the box with plastic bottles and the chopped off palm tree trunk. I listen to the grinding of the jungle waking up at night, enjoying this long-awaited freedom and the opportunity to be alone with myself.

Have a great party and full moon! Sincerely,

Full Moon Party– this is perhaps the best reason for insomnia. Thais are convinced that the full moon is a great reason to have fun. That’s why every year they organize a noisy celebration in honor of the earth’s satellite and invite thousands of Thai guests to it. The meeting point is , a place imbued with intoxicating freedom and special energy that fills and persists until the next Full Moon Party (for more detailed information we recommend visiting official site). This event is attended by about 20 thousand tourists, among whom you can meet our compatriots.

History of the Full Moon Festival

Oddly enough, the first to dance under the full moon until dawn on Koh Phangan were not the locals, but the guests. Legend has it that in 1985, a group of tourists accidentally ended up on the island of Koh Phangan close to midnight. The guests were amazed at how brightly the full moon illuminated the coast and sea surface. They decided to stay here until dawn and have fun in the light of the heavenly beauty.

Since that night Full Moon Party in Thailand began to be held every month. and visitors flock to the coast even before sunset and leave only in the morning, and for some after lunch. Those who are already drunk or just tired sleep with happy faces right on the beach sand.

How much does it cost during the Full Moon Party?

Enterprising Thais made the event free only for their compatriots; foreigners will have to fork out 100 baht for admission to the Full Moon Party. At the entrance, paying guests receive a branded bracelet, which can be left after the party as a souvenir of the magical night.

The event starts at 22.00, and until then you can enjoy the views from the coast and meet other participants in the action. As an option, spend from 100 to 600 baht for a “breezy” walk around the island; this is the same amount you will have to pay to ride a songthaew - a pickup truck with benches installed in the back.

Along the coast to the mega party Full Moon Party Trays are open in which guests are offered, for 200 baht, to apply a simple luminous pattern to the skin. There, for 100-200 baht you can buy bright glasses, a massive hat or a branded T-shirt in an acid shade.

Light snacks and quick meals are sold right there from mobile carts (). The prices are quite affordable. And for those who are especially thrifty, there is a 7-11 supermarket not far from the party venue.

Advice: The Thais do not conduct searches at the entrance to the Full Moon Party. Therefore, it is quite possible to carry a pre-purchased bottle of any strong alcoholic drink with you. All you have to do is buy a bucket of ice, pour cognac or rum into it and plunge headlong into the holiday atmosphere. This method allows you to reduce party costs by a couple of thousand baht.

Prepare in advance for the fact that Thais simply love to hug and even kiss guests Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan. Cheerful sellers sign the bodies of visitors with glowing markers completely free of charge and will not refuse for you to write your name on the mobile counter with the same marker in return.

How to get to the Full Moon Party

The easiest way to get to Koh Phangan is from (read more about that by plane, then) or from Donsak Pier in Surat Thani province. A boat with a high-speed motor rushes to the coast of the island in only 25 minutes, a ferry takes a little more time. The transfer cost () ranges from 350-500 baht. Ferries and boats depart from the pier and Big Buddha pier (you can do this in advance through the 12 Go Asia website).

Party checkpoint

Whatever type of transport you prefer, they all arrive at one point on the island - Haad Rin Nok beach (one of). The length of the sandy crescent is only 800 meters, but on the night of the full moon this place manages to accommodate tens of thousands of people who want to dance under the light of the Earth’s celestial satellite. This is where the Full Moon Party takes place.

Where to stay?

Coming to Pangna Island to celebrate the Full Moon Party is half the battle; it is important to decide in advance where exactly you will be staying. It is best to remotely book a room in any hotel on the island in advance on the websites and , of which there are plenty here. The fact is that on the day of the parties, as a rule, there are no free rooms left.

Full Moon Party scenario

Up to 30 thousand tourists are eagerly waiting for the sun to give way to the moon to shine. With the first rays of the moon, energetic music starts, and most of the guests on the coast start dancing. It doesn’t matter here whether you know how to catch the rhythm and move to the beat of the DJ sets, the only important thing is the desire to give free rein to your emotions and have a blast.

After the Full Moon Party begins, several dozen dance floors operate simultaneously on the island of Koh Phangan. Each one has DJs playing excellent musical genres: techno, house, trance, drum and bass, hip-hop or reggae. The venues are full of bright images of dancers dressed in acid T-shirts and decorated with luminous patterns.

One of the special features of the party is the fire show. Extreme sports enthusiasts, having drunk plenty of alcoholic cocktails, jump over a burning rope or rings. Dangerous entertainment is extremely popular.

At dawn there is a temporary calm. Taxi boat drivers take tired guests to hotels, and the Thais begin cleaning the coastline from the trash left by party-goers. Someone is sleeping quietly and peacefully on the beach. But the party doesn’t end there, because at 11 am the afterparty starts for the most die-hard moon worshipers. The Full Moon Party lasts for three whole days!

For those who want to leave only the best memories after the Full Moon Party on the island of Koh Phangan, keep or remember the following 12 unspoken rules drawn up by the regulars of the lunar party.

  1. There is no place for children at the Full Moon Party.
  2. You should not take documents, valuables, jewelry, accessories with you; leave them at the hotel (but what if you do?).
  3. Keep cameras and phones close to your body to prevent them from being stolen or damaged (read more).
  4. Bags and backpacks can easily be lost in the general commotion; they should also be left in the room.
  5. It is advisable to take enough money for food, drinks and transport, and it is important to store it so that it is not stolen by dishonest coastal guests.
  6. Take some small change; you can only get it by putting 10 baht in the automatic coin acceptor.
  7. Try to stick to “your people” and agree on a meeting place with them in advance in case you do get lost in the noisy crowd of dancers.
  8. Do not go into the water while heavily intoxicated; rescuers may not be there in time. There is a high chance of drowning or being washed out to sea.
  9. Drink less alcohol and more water, this will help you last much longer during the holiday.
  10. Be careful about what you eat and drink. Bottles of alcohol should be opened in front of you and poured within your field of vision, otherwise you can become a victim of deception and be poisoned by low-quality alcohol.
  11. For a trip to the idle coast, choose comfortable shoes and clothes that you won’t mind throwing away later. Traces of the holiday may not be washed off, especially for temporary luminous patterns on the body.
  12. Don't take treats from strangers. Under the guise of safe food and cocktails, you may be offered drugs (read more about the punishment for use), which obviously will not make your full moon night more enjoyable and fun.

Oh my God, how I love to remember this place) I would love to return to a piece of paradise called Koh Phangan again... And today I’ll tell you about how we were struck by the idea of coming to this island in Thailand for the first time, which for the most part known for its wild beach parties.

When we crossed from the Andaman Sea to the Gulf of Thailand, we identified three islands that we would like to visit. My husband is a lover of all sorts of “actions”, so when he learned that full moon parties were held on Koh Phangan, he decided that we definitely had to be there.

Our travel schedule was designed in such a way that we hang out on Koh Samui for two weeks, and then go to Koh Phangan for a week. If we had known then that Koh Phangan would be much more interesting, we would not have spent so long on Koh Samui. If we compare these two islands in terms of recreation: on Koh Samui we were a respectable couple of retirees, and on Koh Phangan we were a couple of hippies in the midst of their honeymoon. It’s just that each island has its own energy and we felt it)

Anyway. And now about what lures ordinary travelers and tourists to this island: after all, in fact, there is no airport on Phangan and therefore there are no “package tourists” here. People mostly come here before the full moon party and stay for one to two days. And even a week wasn’t enough for us (you can read why I fell in love with this place so much).

How to get to the Full Moon Party

Thai tour agency flyers advertise the famous Full Moon Beach Party, and the easiest way to visit Koh Phangan is from the nearby islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao. You can do this by purchasing a ready-made tour, which includes transfer by boat or speedboat. You are dropped off at Haad Rin Beach, the boat waits for you until the morning to then take you back to Samui, the approximate cost of the tour is from 200 baht. And the time you spend on Koh Phangan is limited to just one night.

We were not happy with this option, we wanted to get to know the island better, so we bought a ferry ticket from the same travel agency and simply sailed to Phangan with an open date.

We settled on Ban Tai Beach (Ao Ban Tai Beach), having rented a wonderful bungalow ala country house by the sea at Blue Lotus Resort through hotellook for 400 baht/day. We were not at all bothered by the low tides that often occur on this beach - since we were constantly in different places on the island, exploring it on a motorbike. Then we found out that our friends rented housing much worse than ours, at a much higher price.

This is how we spent time on the terrace of the Blue Lotus Resort house

On the day of the beach party, we just stopped on the songthaew road (public bus - minibus) that took us from our Ban Tai beach to Haad Rin Beach. The fare cost 100 baht per person one way. This is a flat fare, regardless of which beach you are going from, where you are going and on what day. Minibuses run on the roads every 5 - 10 minutes, and on this day - around the clock.

What to expect from Full moon party on Asian Ibiza - Koh Phangan island in Thailand

If you are coming here for the first time, then you should know that it is not necessary to adjust your arrival to the full moon party schedule. So here such parties are held several times a month - these are various parties, such as Relax-party, India-party, After Party and the like.

The best thing to expect from a full moon party is that it is held on one of the best beaches on Koh Phangan. Snow-white fine sand, ideal entry into the sea without the fear of hurting your feet on corals and stones, clear sea water - I can’t even believe that every month this beauty is invaded by drunken youth from all over the world.

Dress code at Full moon party

Drawings on the body using fluorescent (luminous) paint can be considered a special dress code of the Full Moon Party. We painted ourselves, standing at a tray with paints, while rejoicing like little children (the price of such independent creativity is 20 baht). If you are not an artist or do not trust your companions, then enterprising Thais will decorate your face with washable tattoos of flowers and other symbols for 50 baht.

Ticket price (entrance) to Full moon party

Entrance to Full moon party – 100 baht per person. For this amount you will be immediately surrounded by hair, which will then remain with you for a long time. An important point: if you drink alcohol (otherwise you simply don’t belong here), then you don’t have to buy it on the territory where the beach party is being held. You can bring the same bucket of whiskey, brandy and drinks with you. Thais are very accepting of bringing alcohol with them to the Full moon party.

Bracelet - entry to Full moon party for 100 baht

Sleeping lounge - areas at Full Moon Party

Since alcohol is consumed in large quantities all around, at the Full Moon Party there are special lounge areas for those who have had too much to drink. This is an area fenced off with some kind of plastic fence, sleeping mattresses are thrown onto the sand, where already deranged young people are lying in positions like they fell and fell asleep. There is a security guard nearby who monitors the safety of tourists. From the outside it looks like a cattle pen, excuse me, but these are the only associations that come to my mind.

Our reviews about Full Moon Party

So, a friendly group of us walked through the corridor of shops and the paraphernalia presented in them in the form of T-shirts with inscriptions and wreaths for girls. And we entered the territory of the full moon party.

Before this, we had not been able to visit Haad Rin Beach - even though it was next door to ours. The road that leads to it is super mega steep (in some places the slope reaches 50 degrees), and after this mountain serpentine you will need time to come to your senses and realize with fear that you still need to go back.

Now, actually, to what the organizers of the Full Moon Party have prepared for young people flocking here from all over the world to have fun and hang out. This is music of various styles and directions, mainly techno, R&B, house, dance and reggae from DJs invited to the festival.

You can walk along the beach line, where stages for dancers are built, choose a platform with the music you like, stop and dance. We even heard that there was a stage where they performed Russian tracks, but we never found it.

You can also entertain yourself with active games in the form of a fire show, in which we have already participated in. If you are under the influence, you probably know that alcohol dulls the feeling of fear. Therefore, everyone from our friendly company wanted to jump over the fiery jump rope.

My husband and girlfriend went first. As a result, they got their share of adrenaline: they burned through their shorts and began to smell of burning. After examination, it turned out that half of my husband’s beard was burned off and there was a burn on the back of his head, but my friend’s hair was severely singed. The next party, consisting of me and my friend’s husband, changed her mind about going jumping.

Phangan tattoo in memory of the Full moon party

Speaking of which, if you don’t already know who has the most fun at such parties – these are young parents. People like us - moms and dads, taking a break from family life and seem to be not old people yet.

We didn't stay at this event until the final end (i.e. until the morning), because after a few hours all this fuss begins to get boring. We had a little snack - at the Full Moon Party you can eat a hearty meal: there are cafes, street vendors and 7/11 stores. Then we went to the bus stop, where the same couples who had had a good time were waiting for a minibus - a songthaew.

I won’t describe the way back home. Let me just say that he was in more unpleasant company - since there were a lot of drunk people in the cabin of the car. Which, on sharp turns, fell to the floor, or vomited right at their feet.

We jumped off the minibus with relief when we finally saw our Ao Ban Tai Beach. Thus ended our trip to the full moon party.

Tips for those who are going to visit Koh Phangan for the Full moon party

What conclusions have we drawn for ourselves? Many characterize the island of Koh Phangan with the Full moon party. Now I understand that this is not so. This party is just a way to lure tourists here; the island has much more impressive strengths and places that are really worth visiting. These are waterfalls, beaches and mountain peaks - views that blow your mind better than any alcoholic cocktails.

Yes, I would return to Koh Phangan more than once. But as you understand, not for the sake of noisy parties and full moon beach parties.

By the way, as you understand from the article, we have practically no photos from this event. This is because it is very easy to lose expensive equipment at a Full moon party. At the party there are many who take advantage of the drunken state of visitors and cleverly pick out the pockets of tourists. Therefore, do not take valuables or large sums of money with you to the beach on this day.

Full Moon Party gathers up to 30,000 tourists on one beach on Koh Phangan. What kind of full moon party is this? About the history of its origin, the current Full Moon schedule for 2017 and 2018, prices and the best way to get there - everything is in this article!

Sami Susanin’s project is with you. Today I will tell you about the full moon party on Koh Phangan, which is held every month. Let's start with the story of Full Moon - I liked it.

Story

The story of Full Moon is quite simple. I read in some Thai guidebooks that it begins in 1983, when a very small group of people threw a party on Koh Phangan on the night of the full moon. And the party went so well and the participants liked it so much that it began to be held every month on the full moon. The story of full moon, by the way, is very similar to the story - at first it was held by a small group, then everyone liked it, and the party grew;-) You can read more about the festival in the article.

I also heard some details that the first participants of the full moon party (of which there were only up to 50 people) were transported here from Samui. There was an English teacher who lived here, who started organizing such parties once a month, he himself transported people here on his boat and even came up with the name Full Moon Party. This is the name that was written down on the sign for visitors. But these are just rumors - although I think that there definitely must be some truth here.

Wild Haad Rin beach, which could only be reached by water, electricity from generators and, perhaps, the best moon on earth! Probably, the first party was formed from such a mix.

  • From a local full moon celebration for 50 people, the event has grown into a festival with up to 30,000 participants
  • Alcoholic drinks are sold in buckets at Full Moon. This is a children's sand bucket that contains a strong drink, cola and energy drink most often.
  • In addition to the Full Moon Party, there are also Half Moon Party, Quarter Moon Party and even Black Moon Party.
  • In 2016, there was a problem with fireworks, and some were even left with minor burns

Party Safety

Before going to Full Moon, we read quite a lot of recommendations about safety on it. Honestly, it seems to me that this particular event is no different from any mass gathering of people. I've heard a lot about the fact that most often inadequate people are robbed there - i.e. either heavily drunk or something else. So be sane or almost sane, and everything will be ok. But I will still write about some recommendations:

    • If possible, try not to bring anything unnecessary to the party.
    • It is better to take the money without a wallet and put it in a zippered pocket or belt bag
    • It’s simply inconvenient to dance with a phone, camera and other equipment. But if you do take it, try to find a secure place to store it, like a fanny pack, for example.
    • Come to the Full Moon party in shoes so as not to damage your feet from possible fragments
    • I came across such a recommendation that you should not swim - it is dangerous at night. To be honest, there is no particular desire, because on this night everyone goes to the sea to go to the toilet. They take it, turn away and walk away. Looks funny ;-)
    • Don't drink or eat anything offered to you by strangers
    • Drugs are illegal in Thailand and the laws are very strict. Right now (beginning of 2017), it was on the island of Koh Phangan that raids on Rastabars began. Also, some are stopped by police on the road and asked: “Pee-pee, mister.” Some have already been deported from Koh Phangan for using it. So be careful.

The Full Moon Festival takes place on Haad Rin Nok Beach. If you get there on a bike (moped), I think you shouldn’t have any problems finding it. If you go there by taxi, the trip will cost from 250 to 600 baht, depending on where you are coming from.

There is a ferry from Koh Samui and it takes less than an hour to reach Koh Phangan.

From Surat Thani, you can take a ferry to the island in about 3.5 hours.

And now the options - you can get to Suratani from Bangkok either by bus (which is cheaper) or by plane (which is faster). It is also possible to buy a combined train + bus + ferry ticket from the station in Bangkok. And, of course, if you are flying from another country, then the most convenient option would be to fly to Samui, and then take a ferry to Koh Phangan. We have described how to cheat a little when obtaining a Thai visa.

Cost - prices for Full Moon

So, let's start with the entrance:

  • Entrance - 100 baht.

In this case, you are given a rubber bracelet, which serves as a ticket to the full moon party. And then it remains with you as a souvenir.

  • Alcohol buckets - from 250 baht

There are a lot of articles on the Internet copied from each other about full moon, where it is written that you can bring an alcoholic drink with you to a party, thereby saving a couple of thousand baht. Now let's do the math. A bottle of whiskey used in a cocktail bucket for 250 baht costs about 160 in the store. Plus an energy drink is 10 and cola is about 20. The bucket itself still costs something (20 baht in the store of the same name). Those. It turns out that you save about 50 baht. Accordingly, to save a couple of thousand baht, you need to buy 20 of these buckets. Oh, this math! Summary: It looks like the game is not worth the candle.

    • Taxi - 250-600 baht one way.

What is Full Moon Party

The party begins at sunset. There is music playing all along the beach - many different directions, different dance floors. Trance, techno, house, reggae, etc. So, probably, everyone will find music to their taste. The party ends at 12 noon the next day. But they say the afterparty lasts for a couple of days after that. So some people sleep right on the sand on the beach!-)

At approximately 10:00 p.m., an inscription made of some kind of flammable material, FULL MOON, is set on fire. Looks impressive. But during the 2017 New Year's party, an accident occurred in the same place - the inscription flared up unsuccessfully and left burns on the hands of some guests. But it doesn't seem to be a big deal.

How we went

My institute friend Artyom came to visit us. He arrived exactly on the day of the full moon, when things got better. Well, we decided to go and find out what’s going on there.

There was a notice right on our beach that you could get to the party from there for 250 baht. We didn't have time to get a taxi - it took us a long time to get ready. We went on another, less filled one for 300 baht. We landed in the thick of things - a huge number of people, shops, shops, souvenirs, T-shirts and T-shirts in acid colors, tattooists with fluorescent paints. In this video we just got off the taxi and are about to go to the full moon:

We began to move along the general movement and so smoothly reached the entrance itself. There was a tray with black bracelets on the right, and pink ones on the left. They gave us black ones. We walked a little more, and now this legendary beach of the full moon, rumbling with different sounds, opened before us. Video from the very thick of the full moon party:
