The nuances of working as a passenger carriage conductor. Insider. The Train Conductor is about the romance of the road, total corruption and loneliness of Russian Railways employees. Romance or torment

Railroads are still the cheapest way to travel in Russia. Despite the length, some regions are still easier to reach by train than by plane.

Well, on long trips, comfort and safety come to the fore. These must be provided, among other things, by specially trained personnel of passenger cars - conductors.

The essence of the conductor’s work and his responsibilities

In official documents, including the directory of working professions, this position is called “Passenger Car Conductor.” Well, of course, the short name almost immediately stuck in everyday life.

One way or another, the conductor is an employee of the train who monitors the safety and comfort of passengers during the trip. Similar tasks are performed by stewards and stewardesses on passenger aircraft and on ships.

However, the railway has its own specifics, and therefore the profession of a conductor is somewhat on the sidelines. Firstly, the train makes many stops along the way, secondly, boarding and disembarking of passengers occurs regularly, thirdly, the railway is an object of increased danger and you need to carefully monitor the actions of passengers.

The duties and responsibilities of conductors include:

    checking tickets and seating passengers;

    regular wet and dry cleaning of the carriage areas;

    checking communications (lighting, fire alarm, heating, air conditioning systems) in the car;

    announcing stations at the request of passengers, issuing bed linen, hot tea and coffee, providing meals for disabled people and passengers with children;

    preparation of road records and issuance of customs declarations when working on international routes;

    trainee training;

    monitoring the safe boarding and disembarking of passengers.

The carriage conductor can work either alone or with a partner. Although, according to labor legislation, each carriage requires two workers. On the way, they report to the head of the train, who is usually located in the head car along the route.

It is characteristic that most of the vacancies of guides are filled by women, although in essence this profession does not have any gender restrictions. Rather, this is a tribute to traditions and social stereotypes, since the service sector, even during the USSR, consisted almost entirely of women.

Requirements for the skills and abilities of a conductor

The work of a conductor is not so difficult at first glance, but it only seems so. He has many responsibilities, and even more demands.

Moreover, the work of a guide seems romantic only at first glance. Considering that two-thirds of the days a year the guide is on the road, and at the same time many have a family and children, this does not add any romance. At the same time, he devotes all his working time to rather monotonous duties, and not to looking at the views from the window.

Also, the conductor is subject to rather strict appearance requirements. Especially when it comes to working in compartments and business class carriages. The conductor must always look neat and presentable, be punctual and unobtrusive. In addition, as in any service profession, conductors often face conflict. Knowing how to handle them is an important skill for a good employee.

Also the absolute minimum knowledge for a guide:

    Railway signaling systems;

    Construction of the brake system, fire alarm, automatic coupling of cars and other systems;

    Instructions on fire safety, labor protection and job description of the conductor;

    Ability to provide first aid if necessary;

    Knowledge of the geography of settlements along the route.

If the conductor works on international routes, this knowledge is also supplemented by a foreign language (mostly English), the geography of countries along the route of the train, and international tariffs.

Classes of the profession of passenger carriage conductor

Like any other working specialty, the profession of a conductor is divided into qualification categories, starting from the 2nd and ending with the 4th.

The only difference between them is the level of clearance for work. At the initial stage, the conductor can only work on commuter trains. With the highest qualifications - in branded carriages and on international trains.

Career prospects when working as a conductor

If we talk about the career growth of a conductor, it is not that great. Yes, you can improve your qualifications and gradually rise to the position of a Sapsan conductor or some branded carriage on the European route. The conditions there are much better, however, and the requirements are stricter.

To qualify for a job in a branded carriage, the conductor will have to work on long-distance trains for at least a year, and then submit his candidacy for consideration by the qualification commission.

The position of train chief is considered the top step in a conductor's career. However, for this it is necessary to study at a higher educational institution of railway specialization in the specialty “Organization of transportation and management of railway transport.”

Where to learn to be a passenger carriage conductor

Learning to be a carriage conductor is not that difficult. Any adult with a school certificate can receive such an education. Conductor courses in Russia are organized, as a rule, by the largest passenger transportation operator - JSC Russian Railways, or more precisely by its subsidiaries and regional branches. The duration of training in such courses takes 1.5 months, followed by the issuance of a certificate.

In a word, learning to be a guide is not particularly difficult. Students often work in this type of work during the summer holidays as a part-time job. Although, it should be said that recently employers have been increasingly less willing to offer this vacancy due to high staff turnover.

Vacancies for conductors on the labor market, average salary

One of the main advantages of working as a guide is that it is in demand. There are always enough vacancies for such specialists.

But salary is not the strong point of the profession. On average, a conductor can count on 30 thousand rubles. Considering the responsibility for the health of passengers and frequent travel, the salary is not that high.

Pros and cons of working as a conductor

The profession of a passenger carriage conductor has a number of advantages:

    ease of obtaining education;

    demand;

    no restrictions on age, gender and level of education;

    preferential railway travel, treatment and medical examination at the expense of Russian Railways.

The disadvantages of working as a conductor are also quite significant:

    low wages when it comes to regular trains;

    frequent and long trips;

    shift work without weekends and holidays;

    high stress due to a large number of responsibilities and communication with people;

    high level of responsibility;

    the likelihood of accidents and accidents on the railway.

"For those who love to travel, receive vivid impressions, watch a kaleidoscope of new faces and communicate with a variety of people! We invite you to visit us..." This is what an advertisement for recruiting those who are ready to surf for days looks like Russia, help passengers, serve tea in iron cup holders and change bed linen at each station, of course. For those who are ready to choose a profession as a passenger carriage conductor. People who have already worked in this difficult profile can add to the colorful descriptions permanent lack of sleep and a day without sleep, showdowns with rowdies, irregular work schedules, fines and low (relatively, however, in our country everything is relative) wages.

Nevertheless, the profession of a guide remains the most beloved for many who have chosen it. Example - Maria Ukolova and Pavel Skvortsov. In a long interview with the site Ezhmedia young people told why they chose this profession and never regret it.

Masha is an architect, and Pavel is a car mechanic. But they were united by the railway, the work of a conductor and the place of training - the Vladimir student brigade of conductors ( SOP) « Pulse».

To become a “car driver” and take courses, you must be at least 18 and not older than 24 years old. Go through a medical examination, fill out a form and, as it is written on the website: “pack your things, don’t forget a lot of positive things and a sea of energy, and set off for the whole summer to conquer the city on the Neva (training takes place in St. Petersburg)". The ex-head of SOP “Impulse” spoke about other features of the site Elena Mishkanova.

“Students, boys and girls, are coming. Judging by last year, the excitement has already subsided. About 3-4 years ago it came to the initial stage more than 100 people. Education means lectures, exams, and passing a diploma. Everything is standard.

In a week you can see both a polar day and a dolphin in the sea.

There is a desire to work on a branded train, there is already advanced training, other categories and additional training. Just a student right away no one will put work for a company train.

It was our detachment that was trained by technical school teachers from Malaya Vishera. And so, in general, there are many SOP institutions where there is such a specialty.

The beauty of the profession is that Russian Railways- this is an incredible accumulation of different people and emotions. When you are a guide, you are always outside your comfort zone, this greatly improves your own personal qualities. And no one has canceled the beauty of nature outside the window. You can see it in a week and a polar day, and a dolphin in the sea", explained Elena Mishkanova.

After completing special courses, no one will force you to go work as a guide. Every free to do what is more interesting, necessary and important to him. Maria and Pavel decided to continue not to study, but to learn in practice what the profession of a guide is. True, as the guys admitted, it is still more comfortable and peaceful for them to work, albeit on the same train, but in different cars.

The heroes of the interview work on the route St. Petersburg - Adler in a double-decker carriage. “The first fundamental difference is the capacity of the compartment car. Here 64 people, not 32, as in the usual composition. Secondly, everything works throughout the entire route. This is a great happiness for the conductor, as well as for the passengers. Each compartment has 4 sockets, no one stands near the toilets with a phone to charge it. By the way, the car is heated without coal; just press a button and the temperature will be ideal. No titanium with boiling water- passengers come directly to the conductor with a small electric kettle. Many carriages do not have a conductor's compartment; in its place is a coffee machine. And video cameras do not leave smokers a single chance to break the ban.”

Maria and Pavel work according to the following scheme: completed two flights, you take two flights to rest. But it’s already summer, the girl says, and now you can only dream about relaxation.

When working in the last carriage, you still have time to monitor the serviceability of the tail signal lights.

In fact, the most important thing for a conductor is to provide maximum comfort to all passengers without exception. In addition, his responsibilities include working with all technical equipment of the train: water supply, ventilation, electricity, as well as sanitary treatment. Conductor should be able to provide medical assistance, help with paperwork (if the train crosses the border). When working in the last car you need more have time to follow for the serviceability of the tail signal lights.

A conductor's salary depends on several factors: seasonality(in summer there are more flights and passengers), train type(new equipment is modern, it is more difficult to work with, and therefore the salary is higher). The wages on branded trains are higher than on regular trains. We will not talk about any specific amounts: they change too often. For example, this year salaries have already increased since March 1, and will be indexed again in October.

If you go through sites on the Internet, the following picture emerges. On average, a conductor receives about 23 thousand rubles. This is if we assume that it works according to the norm, that is 176 hours per month. But very often conductors, wanting to receive more, overwork this limit. If we consider the option when bonuses, overtime and other allowances are awarded for work, then a “car driver” can receive about 50 thousand rubles. But, as they clarify on the websites, fulfilling such a norm is extremely problematic.

In addition, for every five years of continuous work, the conductor receives a bonus in the amount of 3-4 salaries. Every year, vouchers to sanatoriums and summer camps are allocated - free or partially paid. Provodnikov serve free of charge in clinics at Russian Railways.

If you have the desire and strength, you can “rise” to the head of the train, shift and, ultimately, the station.

There is also a gradation. The first link is an employee of local trains, then up the career ladder - a conductor of long-distance trains and company trains. If you have the desire and strength, you can " rise to the rank» to the train manager, the shift manager and, ultimately, the station. And this is facilitated by the fact that there is no age limit in the profession. From 18 and... if you have the desire and health, you can work even after reaching retirement.

The guides also have an interesting additional service. After the flights they " go for a smile" This means a visit to a psychologist. There they are taught to recognize different types of people, identify the most conflicting ones, and learn how to behave correctly with such personnel.

The profession of a guide does not always mean monotonous trips between cities. Two thousand workers in this field have already completed additional training courses before the start of the June 14 in Russia World Cup. We're talking about this. And who wouldn’t be interested in chatting with fans from Panama, Australia or Costa Rica? And even over the course of not just one feast, but an entire multi-hour trip? Now you can’t guess how such an acquaintance could end.

P. S. We have contacted the main characters of the material and will try to write about them in more detail in the near future.

Working as a train conductor is a difficult but interesting profession. Many people have had this dream since childhood - to work as a conductor. The profession is steeped in romance and fantasy. Surely everyone has their own original story about the train conductor.

Any adult citizen, even those without higher education, can apply for this position. What kind of profession this is, why it is attractive and difficult, will be discussed further.

Qualities you need to have

To go to work as a guide, it is important to have certain personal qualities:

Advantages and disadvantages of the profession

A guide, like all professions, has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include:

  • the need for the profession in society;
  • high on branded trains;
  • no age restrictions;
  • a large number of different benefits.

The disadvantages of the profession are:

Where and how to study

To find out about the vacancy of a train conductor, you need to contact the nearest branch of the railway station.

The passenger depot trains personnel to service the wagons. For the device, you must contact the HR department with documents. Typically the list of required documents includes:

  • passport;
  • certificate or diploma;
  • employment history;
  • a statement that can be written on the spot.

After the documents are accepted, an interview is scheduled with an HR employee or manager. During the interview, it is important to show yourself as an open, sociable person without bad habits. If it was possible to make such an impression and the candidacy was approved, the applicant is sent for training.

Train conductor training lasts three months, training is carried out daily, a full 8-hour day, except weekends. Once the training is completed, examinations are conducted. First, they are accepted. Then the future train conductor is sent to practice - on the first flight, paired with a qualified employee. During the voyage, the student keeps a diary where he records all the events of the journey. It will need to be submitted to the training center. After the trip, a final exam with tickets is taken. When passing the exam with a score of more than three points, the student is considered enrolled in the state.

At the end of the training, the conductor is given a certificate of completion of the course. In addition, to get a job you will need to undergo a medical examination and obtain a health certificate, as well as certification for occupational safety. All documents are provided to the HR department.

Career stages

Immediately after completing training, a train conductor has the third qualification category. And there are four of them in total. The first two are for the cleaners of the passenger train. The third and fourth are for guides. The fourth can be obtained after advanced training. Such conductors usually operate in

A train conductor can rise through the ranks. To do this, you need a higher education or completing a course for foremen. Just below the foreman is the train mechanic, but this position is only for men.

There are also such career levels as shift manager and station manager.

Beginning of work

After training, the guide is ready to start working. He is given a special uniform, which must be kept clean and tidy. A photo of the train conductor demonstrates it.

At the beginning of the first work shift, the contractor forms a team. The guide may be asked which direction he prefers. Perhaps your wishes will be taken into account, but this is not at all necessary.

Flights are:

  • long-distance (more than 24 hours);
  • local (up to 12 hours).

The local train service schedule is 10 working days, then 10 days off. In long-distance carriages, the schedule is determined by the number of days on the trip.

Before the departure of the flight, a planning meeting is held, where the necessary documents are read out to the conductors and their readiness for the flight is checked. At the planning meeting, the teams are informed about the composition of the teams, given instructions, and asked to sign the necessary logs.

On flights crossing the border, the conductor needs a passport.

At the planning meeting, the conductor is assigned a carriage in which she will need to work. Once in his carriage, the conductor meets an employee there who has worked his shift and is about to go home. The carriage is being accepted. Every little detail is taken into account, because the conductor is personally responsible for the entire carriage.

At a certain hour, the conductor begins boarding. Here it is important for him to act strictly according to the instructions. If passengers express dissatisfaction, the conductor cannot meet them halfway, since he is limited by instructions.

You also need to be very careful when handling tickets. There are fines for any mistakes in the work, so it is in the interests of the conductor to comply with everything and be responsible.

Explorer functions

The work of a conductor includes two directions. The first is service work with passengers. This includes:

The second area of responsibilities is related to car maintenance. The conductor ensures the external and internal cleanliness of the carriage entrusted to him. The carriage is wet cleaned twice a day and the toilets four times. Garbage is removed. When the carriage arrives at the station, the conductor wipes the handrails and loads coal onto the train.
In winter, the conductors clear the carriage of ice and also defrost the toilet and washbasin using boiling water. Their responsibilities include maintaining the required temperature in the car.

The conductor has financial responsibility for all the property entrusted to him (dishes, bedding, all equipment for work), as well as for all breakdowns and damage in the carriage.

Wage

The level of a conductor depends on the number of hours worked. The standard for a month is 176 hours. In addition, odds, bonuses and other additions may be added. On average, a conductor earns from 10,000 to 25,000 rubles per month. In winter, the average salary is 15,000 rubles, in summer - 25,000 rubles.

There are also employees who manage to earn up to 55,000 rubles per month, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Privileges

Despite the low level of wages and high workload at work, many strive to go to work on the railway. This is primarily due to the benefits that each conductor of long-distance trains has, and the conductors, of course.

These include:

  • free delivery from the depot to the station closest to your place of residence;
  • annual discounted round-trip rail travel for yourself and two minor children;
  • one round trip on your own road.

The trade union can award referrals for treatment, as well as a camp voucher for children. Conductors receive free medical care in special railway hospitals. In difficult situations, the company can pay for the employee’s treatment.

Every five years, good bonuses are provided for loyalty to the chosen cause. They can be 3-4 monthly salaries.

After 20 years of service or more, a conductor retiring also has the right to preferential railway travel.

If you are still interested in working as a train conductor, positions are always open, you just have to want it.

Who among us has not encountered these women in gray uniforms, polite, smiling and agile, like flight attendants! They are as little similar to their predecessors as the new Russian Railways cars are to the old ones. But their work is still associated with the most serious responsibility – responsibility for people’s lives.

Average salary: 25,000 rubles per month

Prospects

A train conductor is an employee in the Russian railway system who serves passengers as cars move along the route. Conductors ensure the comfort of the trip, and therefore it falls to them to be the face of Russian Railways.

History of the profession

With the development of railway communication, the service for passengers also developed. At first, one train, which could have up to 10 cars, relied on one conductor, whose duties included announcing the names of stations, helping passengers carry luggage and find their seats.

Over time, the number of routes and trains on them has increased tenfold. To prevent people of different classes and incomes from intersecting, the carriages were divided into classes. Rich people traveled in comfortable compartments; such carriages could be served by 3 to 5 conductors, performing, in addition to direct duties, additional orders for passengers. For the rest, the carriages were simpler, and the number of service personnel did not exceed two people.

In the USSR and the Russian Federation, trips by rail are designed mainly for periods of more than a day, so the functions of a conductor differ significantly from the functions of a similar employee of European railway transport, intended for trips over short distances.

Description and characteristics of the profession

Most passengers believe that the carriage conductor performs normal maintenance functions and there is nothing complicated in this work. In fact, this is a very difficult and responsible profession. The conductor not only provides bed and prepares tea, he is also responsible for the technical and sanitary condition of the carriage, wakes up passengers before their destination station, boards and disembarks, and resolves conflicts.

Each carriage has a team of 2 conductors. However, improvements in technology have made it possible in recent years to serve a car alone and even to have one conductor working for two cars. At the same time, the number of passengers served may differ significantly depending on the type of car.

It is necessary to find a common language with all these people, fulfill their requirements in a timely and efficient manner, while on a long route still find the opportunity to rest at least a little and look cheerful and fresh.

Directions, specialties and educational institutions according to the profile of training

To become a conductor, it is enough to enroll in a technical school, college or college with a specialty in transport service. Sometimes it is enough to complete short-term (1.5-3 months) courses for passenger carriage conductors. If you are studying to become a railway service worker, then you gain part of the knowledge in the classroom, and the practical part is mastered directly on the job.

Those who see the profession of a conductor as the first step in their career can enroll in a university to major in “train traffic support systems” in order to acquire a higher education in one of the engineering specialties.

The profession "Passenger Car Conductor" is included in the educational programs of many technical schools and colleges in the transport field. This specialty is taught in the following secondary schools:

  1. The Rostov-on-Don Railway College provides an opportunity to get an education in the specialty “railway conductor”. Here they train specialists to escort passenger cars, special cars and cargo, as well as ticket cashiers.
  2. The Nizhny Novgorod Technical School of Transport Maintenance and Service offers training in the specialty “service in transport”. Here you can study in 2 years and 10 months, in addition, there are 1 and 3 month courses for students of other universities.
  3. The Volgograd College of Railway Transport and Communications trains personnel for the Volga Railway.
  4. Regional state budgetary educational institution No. 16 (Khabarovsk). Here, training to be a guide is available for graduates of 9th grade, the training period is 2 years and 10 months. Students are sent to practice at a passenger carriage depot, where most of them subsequently find employment.

As for courses, they can also be easily found on the Internet. For example, the Kvarta training center in St. Petersburg recruits students for training and advanced training in this area.

Professional Responsibilities

Working as a train conductor is not easy. An employee has a lot of responsibilities that can be roughly divided into two parts.

The first is preparation for the trip:

  • undergoing training, receiving instructions from management;
  • dry and wet cleaning of the carriage;
  • obtaining the necessary equipment (detergents, bed linen) and products (coffee, tea, sugar);
  • receiving goods for trade according to the Russian Railways catalogue.

The second is direct work on the route:

  • boarding and disembarking passengers at terminal and intermediate stations;
  • checking travel documents;
  • placement of passengers in the carriage in accordance with the purchased tickets;
  • providing passengers with bed linen and drinks upon request;
  • timely cleaning and control of titanium operation;
  • control over the functioning of all systems (air conditioning, heating, lighting);
  • maintaining the sanitary and hygienic condition of the carriage (collecting and removing garbage, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning handrails, etc.);
  • timely notification of passengers about approaching their destination station;
  • provision of first aid (if necessary);
  • resolving conflict situations, maintaining order;
  • registration of customs declarations and road statements on international routes;
  • control of the operation of tail signal lights (on the last car).

All actions of the conductor are regulated by numerous instructions that must be followed. Usually the team includes an experienced guide and a young employee who has only recently completed his studies.

In the process of work, the conductor reports to the head of the train, and also interacts with law enforcement agencies to suppress violations of public order.

Who is it suitable for?

This profession is widespread among both women and men. In order to serve passengers on the train, you must be at least 18 years old, in good health and have a certificate of completion of courses or a college diploma.

A good guide should have the following personal qualities:

  • discipline and organization;
  • prudence and strong nerves;
  • hard work and willingness to take on challenges;
  • punctuality and diligence;
  • politeness and friendliness, despite fatigue;
  • ability to work with different categories of people;
  • ability to correctly fill out travel documents;
  • ability to quickly find a way out of non-standard situations.

Positive aspects of the profession:

  • constant availability of vacancies at JSC Russian Railways;
  • the ability to perform this work for people of different ages (from youth to the elderly);
  • benefits for travel on railway transport;
  • stable wages and benefits package.

The carriages are now becoming more comfortable, which greatly facilitates the conductor’s work.

Disadvantages of work:

  • a large number of business trips and constant travel, which is why it is often impossible to fully relax;
  • working shifts, including on holidays and weekends;
  • high level of responsibility, both material and for the life and health of passengers;
  • the possibility of getting injured on the railway;
  • work in outdated carriages with insufficient comfort;
  • forced communication with unpleasant and conflicting people.

Wage

Wages primarily depend on the number of hours worked, and overtime is not allowed so as not to violate labor laws. Therefore, the maximum working days per month is fifteen. This allows you to get about 18-20 thousand rubles plus allowances for the direction, seasonality and length of service, as well as a bonus. On branded trains and long-distance trains, the hourly rate is higher, so experienced employees can earn up to 50 thousand rubles monthly.

How to build a career

Receiving a higher rank gives conductors the right to work on more prestigious and highly paid routes:

  • 2nd category assigned to graduates of technical schools and special courses, with it an employee will only be allowed to work on local and commuter trains;
  • 3rd category gives permission to work on long-distance passenger trains (more than a day on the road), here they pay more and are issued a uniform;
  • 4th category Available to distinguished and advanced employees with at least two years of experience. Having this rank, you can work on branded trains with good working conditions, high salaries and the opportunity to communicate with interesting people.

To obtain a higher position in the Russian Railways system (train manager, station manager, or another), you need to study at specialized universities in the specialty “organization of transportation and maintenance in railway transport” or “train traffic support systems.”

Prospects for the profession

Each person chooses for himself who to work with. The profession of a conductor is in demand in the Russian Railways system; moreover, it does not require long training; you can start working just a few months after graduating from school. Due to the specific nature of passenger rail transportation in Russia, the need for conductors will not disappear for a very long time.

Every time you travel on a passenger train, you involuntarily ask yourself: what is the responsibility of a Russian Railways conductor? After all, this is the person who meets passengers on the platform, accompanies them throughout the trip and sees them off upon arrival at the final station of the route. Therefore, it is so important to know what can be demanded from a guide and what is not at all within the scope of his activities.

Passenger service

Creating comfortable conditions for citizens to travel is the main prerogative of those whom we call conductors. Therefore, their main responsibilities are related to the provision of services to passengers. These include:

  • control of travel and personal documents of passengers at the beginning of the route;
  • physical assistance during boarding for those people who cannot take or find their seat on their own;
  • distribution of bedding and towels at the beginning of the trip, as well as their collection half an hour before the passenger leaves the train;
  • upon request, the conductor can also make the bed, primarily doing this for those traveling with children, elderly people or people with disabilities;
  • offer for the purchase of hot and cold drinks, as well as other assortment of food products; for this, conductors are required to walk around each compartment three times a day. At any other time, passengers can independently contact the conductor’s compartment for the necessary goods;
  • if someone in the carriage asks to bring him a brush for shoes or clothes, as well as board games, the conductor will be obliged to bring all this to the place of the request;
  • maintaining a high temperature of hot water in the boiler;
  • checking the constant availability of cold water;
  • ensuring silence in the carriage at night, which begins an hour before midnight and lasts until 6 am;
  • inviting service personnel from the dining car to accept orders from passengers;
  • citizens getting up after sleep approximately half an hour before they leave at their destination.

Car maintenance

In order to make the time spent on the train comfortable and enjoyable for every traveler, conductors also have a number of job responsibilities that are aimed at establishing order and cleanliness in the territory under their jurisdiction:

  • every 12 hours, carry out wet and dry hygienic cleaning in common areas and in compartments;
  • clean every vestibule and bathroom every 6 hours;
  • hourly replenish the supply of hygienic consumables in the bathrooms: soap, paper, disposable paper towels;
  • collect waste and garbage and dispose of it at special stations;
  • wipe the handles in the vestibules with a clean, damp cloth before each stop at stations along the train’s path;
  • control the visibility and readability of signs indicating the number of the train and carriage, as well as its route.

During the cold season, especially in winter, the responsibilities for servicing carriages and vestibules become a little greater. The following are added to them:

  • maintaining optimal temperature in the car;
  • cleaning vestibules from snow and ice build-up;
  • in order to prevent freezing of plumbing drains, pour boiling water over them as necessary;
  • Before filling water, remove snow and ice build-up from the filling pipe;
  • clearing snow from train running parts at each long-term stop of the train.

Other duties

Naturally, the conductor is simply obliged to look neat and be friendly with every passenger. This is not always easy, because they have a lot of work and sometimes lack sleep.

Those traveling with children or accompanying a citizen with limited mobility have the right to make a request to the conductor at any time. To the best of his ability, he is obliged to provide assistance.

In addition, the conductors are financially responsible for everything that is in the carriage. Stolen dishes or bed linen, damaged curtains, seats, toilets, walls, etc. are repaired and restored at the expense of the conductors’ salaries.

As you can see, guides have a lot of work to do, so try to treat their work with the utmost respect.
