Among these provinces are 8 regions that are especially popular with tourists: 2 of them are located off the coast of the Andaman Sea, 5 in the Gulf of Thailand and 1 in the north of the country.

Coast of the Andaman Sea

On its coast, next to each other, are two of the five most popular seaside resorts in the country: Phuket and Krabi.

Pattaya

Pattaya is. The reason for its huge attendance is that this city is located just 140 km from Bangkok. But the most unbridled and noisy parties in the whole country are held here, and the number of hotels and tourist service facilities exceeds all possible limits. It is positioned as a place for family holidays, quiet relaxation and eco-tourism, which is facilitated by magnificent nature and an abundance of beaches with coral sand.

Sights of Thailand

Since I’ve been to Thailand so many times that I’m even tired of counting, and in total I lived in Thailand for more than two years and independently visited almost all the sights of the land of smiles - temples, markets, historical and national parks, beaches and forests, mountains, caves and waterfalls - then I have something to tell you. Thailand is just a treasure trove of impressions and I hope you will love this country as much as I do.

In this article, I will first share my top 5 most interesting attractions in Thailand, and then briefly, with descriptions and photos, I will show all the best places in Thailand that are worth seeing during your vacation. And of course, I’ll show you a map of Thailand’s attractions to make it easier to understand where they are.

As is known, Thailand— the country is quite large and diverse. Unlike not very large, Thailand can be divided into several large regions, which more or less coincide with the location of tourist attractions that are interesting to a wide range of tourists from around the world (see the diagram).

I will list the main regions of Thailand:

  • Firstly, this Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and the city where most tourists first fly, starting their acquaintance with the country and its attractions there.
  • Secondly, sea resorts in thailand, where guests from Russia usually come for the first time. Therefore, for them, Thailand is primarily its beaches. It is important to understand that Thailand is not islands like, but part of the mainland in Southeast Asia. Therefore, Thailand has several coasts:
    • Western coast of the Gulf of Thailand where there are resorts like the island Samui, Phangan, Koh Tao, Hua Hin, Cha-Am, Chumpon and many others.
    • Eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand- this is a well-known resort Pattaya, islands of Koh Chang, Koh Samet and others.
    • Andaman coast in the Indian Ocean, where the famous island is located Phuket, resorts Krabi, including Phi Phi, Phang Nga, Khao Lak and the islands of Similan and Surin.
  • The next most popular region of the Kingdom is northern Thailand. It is usually customary to separate two northern directions: with a center in cities Chiang Mai And Chiang Rai, but I'll combine them into one.
  • Central Plains also traditionally divided into northern and southern. I will also tell you about their attractions, because they are united by the historical past of Thailand: this is where the historical parks are located Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kampaeng Pet. And also the region of the central plains traditionally includes one of the most interesting tourist provinces called Kanchanaburi- unique in its nature and participation in events not so long ago - the Second World War.
  • Northeast(or Isan) is a region on the border with Laos and Cambodia, which is considered the least visited region of Thailand. It is distinguished by the special mentality of the inhabitants of the Mekong River Valley and the fact that some of the Khmer temples, such as, are located there.
  • Far south- This is another region of Thailand where tourists rarely visit and where the country's Muslim population is concentrated. It is also interesting for its attractions, and there is also the curious historical city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and the largest lake.

I will now tell you in detail about all the regions of Thailand and their attractions. If you are just going on holiday to Thailand or are planning a trip by car around this country, then it will be extremely useful for you to use this guide to the sights of Thailand with the most complete practical information and a large number of photos, tips and recommendations. It will help you navigate the variety of popular tourist places and choose the most interesting ones for yourself. At the end of it, you can also see a map of all the attractions discussed in this article.

All links in my brief description of the attractions of Thailand are clickable. So if you want to study the attractions that interest you in more detail, then feel free to click on the title with the link and read the corresponding detailed article with useful information that we have collected during our numerous trips to Thailand and its attractions.

Recommendation: The best way to explore the city of Bangkok and its life is to take a boat ride along the main waterway - Chao Phraya River, as well as through numerous channels of the Thai capital (they are called Klongs), which will immediately give you an idea of why this city was nicknamed the Venice of the East.

Bangkok markets are also an important attraction in this bustling Asian metropolis.

  • All tourists are well aware of the famous Khao San Road, shown in many films, and its night market, which opens before sunset.
  • It is impossible to imagine a visit to Bangkok without visiting the main Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, which is 60 km from the city.
  • Also don't forget to go to the huge Chatuchak market, which is located in the northeast of Bangkok, and where you can buy almost everything.

Shopping in Bangkok will be of interest to literally all people who come to the capital of Thailand:

  • Most tourists are more interested in the modern look of Bangkok, so they choose large shopping centers with boutiques and shopping malls in the Siam region for shopping. So a trip to Bangkok can be a good reason to buy a new iPhone and update your other gadgets, or replenish your wardrobe with clothes from famous brands, as in.
  • And in order to plunge into the atmosphere of old Bangkok, go shopping in the Rattanakosin district, where you can visit some of Thailand's most famous temples, plunge into the nightlife of discos and bars, or visit the main backpacker street - Khao San Road.

It is also worth seeing Bangkok from a bird's eye view. To do this, go to the observation decks of the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia - Bayoke Sky. The tower of this hotel is an important landmark in Thailand.

What else to do and see in Phuket?

You can also visit Phuket pearl factory and the Khao Phra Teo forest, where it is located rehabilitation center for gibbons. And the best evening shows in Phuket take place in Phuket FantaSea. Some tourists even compare them with the best. And don't forget about the Big Buddha!

  • Beaches of Koh Samui
  • Waterfalls
  • Big Buddha
  • Developed infrastructure

Koh Samui(Koh Samui) is the largest island in the Gulf of Thailand (after Koh Chang), which is located 700 km from Bangkok. This is one of the most developed seaside resorts in Thailand, with many interesting attractions. There are many different hotels on Koh Samui to suit different tastes and budgets. There is also a ring road around the island of Koh Samui, connecting all its beaches and port.

As with any other beach resort in Thailand, the main attractions of Koh Samui are its beaches. And since beaches on Koh Samui quite a lot, and they are all very different in quality and location, I will briefly describe them:

Koh Samui is one of the attractions of a beach holiday in Thailand

What to see on Koh Samui:

  • Na Muang Waterfalls And Hin Lat. They can be found in the center of Koh Samui (entrance from the west coast).
  • The Big Buddha is a 12-meter tall statue of the Seated Buddha, which is located on the grounds of Wat Phra Yaai temple in the north of Koh Samui.
  • Stones " Grandmother and grandfather"(Hin Ta and Hin Yaai) are rocks that depict the reproductive organs and are an interesting attraction and place of pilgrimage for both locals and tourists.
  • Wat Plai Laem Temple famous for its beautiful statue of Buddha, and most importantly, for the lake in the middle of the temple. The reflection of temple buildings, palm trees and snow-white sand create a tropical and exotic atmosphere.
  • Samui Aquarium and Zoo. Here you can look at exotic tropical animals and fish, as well as attend a performance of sea animals and see trained tigers.
  • Buddha's Secret Garden is a rock garden among tropical greenery and waterfalls.
  • Lad Ko observation deck offers panoramic sea views. It is located on Chaweng Beach.
  • Mummified monk sits on a hill next to the highway from Nathon to Lamai.

  • Phi Phi Islands
  • Railay beaches
  • Emerald Lake
  • Pranang Beach
  • I don’t recommend skipping the atmospheric one if you are interested in history. It was the first capital of the medieval state of Lanna, which created this entire unique landscape of northern Thailand.
  • Its main temple, decorated with unique frescoes of the Tai Liu people, lies away from the main roads.

    • Ruins of Ayutthaya city
    • Monkey City Lopburi
    • Seven-cascade Erawan waterfall
    • Death Road in Kanchanaburi
    • Ancient temples of Sukhothai

The main attraction of the Central Plains of Thailand is, of course, the historical city, which was the capital of Thailand for 400 years. Not too far from Bangkok, Ayutthaya is located on an island surrounded by rivers. Personally, I was especially impressed by the temples of Wat Phra Si Sanpet and, of course, the majestic Wat Phra Mahatat. It is in Ayutthaya that you can see the head of Buddha among the roots of a large tree, which is so often published among photos of the sights of Thailand.

The ancient temples of Ayutthaya are a very popular attraction in Thailand.

A little north of Ayutthaya there is another remarkable historical city - Lopburi. In addition to the royal palaces (King Naraya's Palace, for example) and ancient ruins, they have gained fame as the “Monkey City”. The fact is that hundreds of wild monkeys actually roam around the city, and most of them are concentrated near historical monuments. So hurry up to take cool photos with monkeys near the ruins. But be careful: the monkeys in Lopburi are very spoiled and behave extremely arrogantly. They are also protected by law as a local landmark.

Not far from Bangkok, in the city of Nakhon Pathom, there is a gigantic stupa - the largest stupa in Thailand. The only thing comparable in scale to it is the one destroyed in Myanmar.

To the northwest of Bangkok, among the mountains lies, among the endless forests of which seven cascades with turquoise water are hidden and built during the Second World War under the leadership of the Japanese by captives from different countries (including Australia). With Erawan Falls, everything is simple: you can come to the entrance to the national park and trek to its top. I liked it there so much that I went to Erawan twice. But you can look at the railway in its different sections - on or next to it, which tells about the hard labor of captive Thais and Burmese.

In Erawan National Park, the main attraction is the 7-cascade waterfall (pictured)

Sukhothai Historical Park is another important attraction in Thailand that is worth seeing.

In the northern part of the Central Plains is another capital of the Thai state, the predecessor of Ayutthaya - and its satellite cities - and. These are completely restored cities with more than 40 temples, which I enjoyed exploring, because Thai art of the 13th-14th centuries was full of expression. Those who like to climb the ruins of ancient sights will definitely like it here!

    Good to know:

    Si Satchanalai Historical Park

I advise the most curious travelers to definitely go to the city hidden behind the mountains near the Burmese border with its unique charm and Umpang - the unofficial trekking capital of Thailand. One of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand, Ti Lo Su, is also located here. The scenic road leading to Uprang ends in this city, and further you can only go on foot (as in the USA)

    • Khmer temples of Pimai and Phnom Rung
    • Festivals of Elephants in Surin and Rocket Festivals in Yasoton
    • Pu Kradung Plateau
    • Lei Province
    • Wat Pratat Panom Temple

Among the attractions of Thailand in the Mekong Valley, it is worth highlighting the most iconic Wat Phra That Panom temple in Nakhon Panom city. A golden, slender stupa in Laotian style stands on the banks of the Mekong and looks out onto neighboring Laos and the city.

To better experience the similarities between Eastern Thais and Laotians and understand their differences from other residents of Thailand, I advise you to go to. The large river, which serves as the border between the two states, brings people together. Having traveled by car or bus to various attractions, you can see a beautiful sunset and spend the night in the town of Chiang Khan, as we did.

Tour along the Mekong. Of course, we didn’t ride bikes, although that would have been a cool route!

    • Wat Prathat Mahathat temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat
    • The historic city of Songkhla and the largest lake
    • Islands near Trang city
    • Deserted beaches of Tarutao Park

And if you want a typical vacation in Thailand by the sea, but without huge crowds of tourists, then you should think about islands near Trang- These are the islands of Koh Muk, Koh Kradan and others. Even further south, almost on the border with Malaysia, is Turatao National Marine Park, with the best Thai beaches and the best diving. There are hotels on Ko Lipe and Ko Adang, and other islands can only be visited during the day.

This concludes my review of the sights of Thailand. Have a nice holiday and pleasant impressions, dear readers!

This is where most of the tourist sites are concentrated.

    Main attractions of Thailand resorts:

Sukhawadi Palace, Temple of Truth, Walking Street, Million Year Stones Park

Wat Chalong Temple, Big Buddha, Bangla Road, Patong Beach

Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks, Wat Khunaram Temple, Wat Plai Laem Temple, Fishing Village, Paradise Park

Wat Tham Sua Temple, Tonsai and Railay beaches, Tab Kaek Hang Nak National Park, Maya Bay (Phi Phi Le Island)

Marukhatayawan Palace, Wat Huay Mongkol Temple, Night Market, Sam Roi Yot National Park

Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Saket and Wat Arun, Grand Royal Palace, Khao San Road

You can see all this and much more with your own eyes by purchasing a tour to the “land of smiles.” Photos of attractions will take their rightful place in your family archive. Choose according to your taste - there is always something to see in Thailand.

A visit to the million-year-old stones park, located not far from, will leave many vivid impressions. A collection of amazing creations of nature is collected on an area of 29 hectares. Here you can see stones of the most bizarre shapes, in which animals, birds and even people can be guessed, as well as fossilized tree trunks that are millions of years old.

    Samui

Perhaps the most famous natural attraction is the Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks. Spicy creations of nature, reminiscent of male and female reproductive organs, are located on the beach.

In your free time, you can visit Buddhist temples. The Wat Khunaram temple with the sitting mummy of a monk is noteworthy - in 1973 he died during meditation and has remained intact to this day.

Like other Thai islands, it has its own Big Buddha. The gilded statue, 12 meters high, is located on top of a small hill from which an excellent panorama opens. On the way to the Big Buddha, stop by the painted temple of Wat Plai Laem. Nearby you can see a 30-meter tall smiling Buddha (Happy Buddha) and the 18-armed goddess of mercy Guan Yin.

Gourmets are advised to visit the fishing village near the beach - there is a large selection of cafes and restaurants overlooking the sea. Children can be taken to Paradise Park, a petting zoo where they can hold rabbits, pigeons, turtles and other animals.
