Orlando to Miami

Towards evening, we packed our suitcases, which had increased to four, loaded into the car and said goodbye to our father. Orlando is a city of lakes and Disneyland, malls and outlets, the city where my father lives... We walked to our hearts, relaxed and shopped for 5 years ahead. Goodbye Orlando, off to Miami!

We arrived in about 3 hours. On the way we made a stop at the Plaza. There are quite a lot of such plazas along the road, where you can refuel and have a snack.

Fort Lauderdale Clubs

We stayed in the neighboring town of Fort Lauderdale with a friend, which is 30 minutes away.

Upon arrival, we immediately went to the center of Fort Lauderdale, where we visited the local clubs and bars, of which there are over a hundred. There is no particular pathos in the establishments; there are a lot of young people who drink absolutely everywhere.

Among the places we visited we remember:

America's Backyard (100 Nugent Ave, FL 33312)

Cyn (111 SW 2nd Ave, FL 33301)

Vibe (301 E Las Olas Blvd, FL 33301)

Miami: beach and clubs

Miami and Miami Beach are two different cities, and if the first is a business city with its own business centers and houses, then the latter is an island where there are beaches, hotels, a promenade with cafes, drinking establishments and numerous clubs. Our friend took us here the next morning, having previously given us a ride past the places where large parties were planned that evening.

Having bought a swimsuit and sunglasses, we went to sunbathe and swim. Just like last time, I was looking forward to the beaches of Miami, imagining how there would be girls with size 3 bikinis and flat stomachs all around, and with them there would definitely be men with a 50-centimeter bicep and all 8 cubes. And just like last time, I saw a lot of tourists, a lot of Russians, the same as on any other beach. Eh...these are the stereotypes that American cinema instills in the human brain.

What else can be said about Miami Beach. This is a wide beach with palm trees and several streets parallel to it. There is a bar on a bar, a club on a club, cafes, a lot of tourists and a lot of young people. Some are walking, some are drinking, some are driving back and forth along Ocean Drive, showing off their cool cars.

Airplanes are constantly hovering in the air, pulling behind them huge advertising banners telling where the party will be today.

Prices in cafes and restaurants are Moscow prices. I highly recommend the Nikki Beach Club (1 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139), which is recognized as an icon of the daytime party along the coast for its legendary Sunday brunch with dancing, shows and bubbles.

After spending the whole day at the beach, we headed back to pack up and get ready to check out Miami's nightclubs for crazy stuff.

Last time I was at the Mansion, I remember there was good music, a huge dance floor and great Long Islands.

Well, let's get to start a party! In the morning, a friend immediately showed us LIV, the same Mansion and Space. She singled out the latter with great caution, warning that he was in a very dangerous area. Well...she was damn right, but more on that later.

So, we arrived at the Fontainebleau hotel, because... it is in it that the promoted LIV is located. It is considered to be the best club in Miami. By the way, it seems there is the same one in Monaco. Face control and dress code, in my opinion, are serious, everything is as it should be. In front of the entrance there is a square fenced off with ribbon, around which party-goers stand and wait to be chosen to go inside. We were noticed almost immediately and, presenting our Russian license, we entered without difficulty. Entrance cost $80 per person! Perhaps it’s only more expensive in the Bahamas. It always seemed to me that in a normal establishment you don’t have to pay for admission, well, apparently American policy is a little different. Club LIV consists of two floors: on the second there are lounge areas and a bar, on the first there is a dance floor, tables, another bar and a stage. High ceilings, great sound system, large room. Everything is very bright and enchanting, the people around are beautiful and well dressed. The DJ plays very high-quality techno, and girls dance next to him on stage, performing various shows. From time to time, fireworks and huge balls fly out, which people throw above their heads among themselves throughout the hall. Everything here seems to be filled with pathos and glamor. You feel like you're at a good party. The DJ seems to be dancing along with the vacationers, as if he senses what they need and doesn’t let them rest for a minute. The prices are, of course, atas. Not just Moscow ones, but I don’t even know which ones. They drank the Jägermeister first. I didn’t remember the exact price, because it was different everywhere, that is, at first they poured it for us for $39, at another bar for $44, and somewhere else for $50. It felt like they were looking at you and setting a price. I saw a bottle of champagne on the menu, ATTENTION, for $150,000!!! Guard!

Around 3, we realized that we needed to change the picture, and decided to see what kind of hot Space this was. After the car was parked and parking was paid, we were immediately offered magic pills for $10 from an African American who was riding around there on a bicycle. Having sent him further, we headed towards the entrance. $40 per person and we're inside. There are only 2 floors: on the first there is an incomprehensible hip-hop party, on the second there is tin. When you get up, you immediately see a crowd of people in glasses who are incredibly sick. The music is damn cool. Let's go dance! After dancing for a while, you begin to realize what kind of place this is. You pay attention to what is happening to whom, and when you find out that the establishment is open 24 hours, then in the end you realize that the club is full of crap. Now it’s clear where we ended up. The music and atmosphere are really conducive to dancing. But everyone rests differently, so if you find yourself here, I’ll write what you need to pay attention to. 1) Don’t let your drink out of sight, that is, if you put it on the bar counter and turned away, then forget about it, better take another one, in such hot places there are people who can easily add something bad to it or mix it with something bad. 2) If you come with a young lady, then be next to her, and if she needs to go to the toilet, then escort her and wait; near the toilets I have more than once noticed girls in prostration, whom some guy skillfully picked up and led with him. 3) There are a lot of hucksters, at some point it seemed to me that there were more of them than just partygoers, so be careful too. We started talking with some guys and very soon, almost everyone around knew that we were tourists from Russia. There were many offers from different people to go to another place, hotel, home, etc., etc. At some point, we got the feeling that they wanted to slip us something, add something to us, take us somewhere, or go out with us. The most vivid memories from this place are the music and the moments when explosive techno plays, a ball of smoke is released onto the dance floor, and we dance together, it feels as if we have flown somewhere far away and there is no one nearby. Actually, once again after releasing such smoke, I grab my girlfriend by the hand and simply run out of this fiend of hell. We quickly approach the car, and what do you think? Next, 4 guys of Latin American appearance come out and quickly follow us. We jump into a taxi and leave. Just fucked up. If you ever go to a space club, be careful, wear glasses and keep your mouth shut.

To be honest, after the cosmic beauties of California and the amazing program that the wonderful guys from near San Francisco gave us, I was mentally preparing for the fact that Florida and Miami would be more boring. Yes, here in February, like in Rostov-on-Don in June, there are a lot of palm trees, a luxurious sea - almost the Caribbean, amazing service (the USA, after all, was the first to invent this concept)... But still, this is not California. The first day here, in principle, my expectations were justified. But as soon as we reached downtown on Tuesday evening, leaving behind the beaches and resorts, I immediately realized that there was something to come here for. Miami can surprise you to the core even after California.

In general, the main reason we went to Miami (rather than staying in California for two weeks) was the desire to meet my dad's sister. Our family's past, alas, was not at all as smooth and brilliant as we would like. When I was born, my father was in his third marriage, my mother was in her second. I don’t have any sisters or brothers from both my mom and dad, but on my mom’s side I have a brother and sister, who are much, much older, and on my dad’s side there are three brothers and a sister. We communicated and communicate with the former, but I only vaguely knew about the existence of the latter. With the advent of Facebook, all people became closer, and somehow Olya, my dad’s sister, found me quite by accident, we started corresponding a lot, and on this trip to the USA, I decided to drop by Miami to meet her in person.

Now it’s difficult to tell everything that I would like to tell about Olya, our acquaintance and what happened before - I will definitely touch on this topic later. When traveling, there is usually less than a minimum amount of time to post, so let me better focus on downtown Miami this time, tell you briefly about what impressed me, why I proudly called it the city of the future, and why it would be worth each of you to come and see see the capital of Florida.

1. Alas, most, if you ask what Miami looks like, imagine snow-white beaches, a turquoise ocean, sexy lifeguards from American films of the 80s and small coastal houses with endless pubs, clubs, and disco. An image that Hollywood began to build back in the 70s. And yes, it is quite real, but what was described above is the town of Miami Beach, located on an island ten miles from Miami. The downtown of Florida's main city itself looks completely different - modern, rapidly developing, large, with dozens of skyscrapers.

2. It took us 30, or even 40 minutes to get from Miami Beach to those parts. Crossing endless canals, on the banks of which real palaces and castles of celebrities and rich people from all over the world were built. Yes, there is also more than enough Russian property there :)

3. We arrived in downtown Miami after sunset, and it literally amazed us with millions of lights, huge buildings, spacious green parks and endless pedestrian areas.

4. This is exactly how I always imagined the city of the future - here at the head of everything is a person, a pedestrian, a resident. Everything has been done here for him. Luxurious embankments with glass skyscrapers immersed in greenery, without motor transport.

5. No fences, partitions, barriers - everything is as open and accessible as possible.

6. A city that looks more like a giant sanatorium or resort than what we are used to, and what Moscow or even New York is like. A million options for walking, bicycle rental, convenient and environmentally friendly public transport, which you subconsciously prefer to your own car. Because it's more convenient.

7. Modern Miami is generally a very interesting phenomenon, quite bright to be called worthy of the attention of the world community. Local authorities are doing their best to turn their home and city into the largest cultural and business center throughout the country and even the world. They abolished the state tax, which is collected on every purchase in almost every American region, they created a favorable climate to attract investors - as a result, the entire center is brand new, brand new, beautiful, beautiful, full of brand new skyscrapers. There are even more construction sites here. In a few more years, Miami will probably have twice as many interesting things to do. Natural conditions only once again stimulate the attention of global corporations - there is eternal summer here: all year round the temperature here ranges from +19 to +32. A world famous resort is a stone's throw away.

8. In the middle of all the modern newfangled buildings there is a cozy quarter of the old city with low houses, a huge number of cafes and restaurants. A gastronomic paradise - like almost everywhere else in America.

9. The entire downtown is surrounded by overpasses of the light metro system - this is a fully automated system. Small carriages roll along the tracks, sometimes moving singly, and sometimes double or even triple.

10. The carriages look like this, there is no driver inside, passengers can stand at the very beginning, at the windshield and admire the view “from the driver’s cabin”. Travel on the light metro is absolutely free, the cars can take you to any corner of downtown, they run very often - more than once every five minutes. The paths among the huge amount of greenery and skyscrapers seem something super futuristic. Sometimes I caught myself feeling that I was on the set of The Fifth Element.

11. I will tell you many, many more interesting things about Miami, and show you dozens of photographs - the best of the several hundred that I have taken here over the past few days. The city is amazingly curious, here you want to photograph every corner, every brick in the building and tile on the path - everything is so interesting, revealing and cool! But everything has its time.

We have very little time left in Miami - one tomorrow, Friday. Early on Saturday morning we board a plane to New York, where we will have a few hours to spare before a long flight to Sheremetyevo. It's already back to work on Monday.

It seems implausible. After such a long and eventful journey, Russia seems completely unreal. It was like we flew to New York in February and spent a whole month there, March and April were in California, and May and June were in Florida. Surely, it will be extremely difficult to end up in Moscow, where February has just ended...

But nothing. I hope that the impressions that this huge trip brought us will be able to warm our hearts until the next such voyage. I'm sure he won't keep you waiting for sure.

Night club "Space"

You've probably heard a lot about nightlife, club parties and dance music in Miami without us. Therefore, briefly and to the point - passwords and appearances of clubs and similar establishments in Miami. The order of the list is unbiased, draw your own conclusions.

Amnesia
136 Collins Ave., Miami Beach - www.amnesiamiami.com - $$$
A holy place is never empty. The club, which was closed in the early 90s, was revived, replacing the popular ones that lost in the confrontation with local residents Opium Garden and Privé. The new Amnesia now has a roof that keeps decibels inside and humidity percentages outside. Overall, one of the rare fairly democratic clubs in Miami.

Cameo
1445 Washington Ave., Miami Beach - www.cameomiami.com - $$
The tenth reincarnation of the former cinema is only getting prettier over the years. Atmospheric. House on Fridays, hip hop on Saturdays.

LIV
4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach - www.livnightclub.com - $$$$
Mega, super, the very best - the most common epithets that you will hear addressed to LIV. Celebrities - recognizable and not so recognizable, drinks - extremely strong, outfits leave little to the imagination. The queue for the toilet is of the “look at people and show off” kind of line.

Mansion
1235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach - www.mansionmiami.com - $$
Luxury, Venetian mirrors, chandeliers and fireplaces. An unexpectedly modest dance floor, ruled by very immodest names - Steve Aoki, Dirty South, David Guetta, Avicii, Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli, Joris Voorn.

Mokai
235 23rd St., Miami Beach - www.mokaimiami.com - $$
VIP lounge all over Miami. With passwords, single file and whispers.

Mynt Ultra Lounge
1921 Collins Ave., Miami Beach - www.myntlounge.com - $$$
Pathetic and pretentious. Wear everything fashionable at once. Don't forget to pull in your stomach.

Set
320 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach - www.setmiami.com - $$$
The club is run by the face from the cover of CQ and the son of Foreigner's Mick Jones. The audience matches. The interior recreates the glamor and luxury of Hollywood of the 30s. Leather, wood, glass, antiques and elevators with go-go girls.

Space
34 NE 11th St., Miami - www.clubspace.com - $$
An atypical place in the plastic monotony of the Miami club scene. Located in downtown, three floors with an open roof terrace, music - industrial/progressive, 24-hour liquor license. You shouldn’t arrive before 3 a.m.; don’t plan anything for the whole next day either. A break from the “survival of the fittest” category.

WALL
2201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach - www.wallmiami.com - $$$
Boutique-lounge mix, pardon my Russian.

Nikki Beach
1 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach - www.nikkibeachmiami.com - $$$
Sunday afternoon. Exhausted from club weekends, bodies get hungover and work on their tan. Sofas, hammocks, sand, cocktails and house music. The quintessential South Beach lifestyle.

And finally, a couple of tips. VIP bracelets with passes to the club, which a nimble boy or a curvy girl gave you with a conspiratorial look on the street or on the beach, do not work! Passes or coupons received as a gift or as a bonus at the hotel do not work! At best, you will stand out in style in the company of the same poor fellows at the tail of a long queue. The rules are the same everywhere - “I wore everything fashionable at once”, “flying gait”, guestlist, etc. Mixed groups and early birds are easier. If you don’t like the first, and the second didn’t work out, no one has canceled the good old bottle service. Calculation: one bottle for two or three people.
