What are the sizes of balls? Dimensions of latex balloons Basic dimensions of balloons and their applications

Diversity balloons admires. When you have decided to decorate your celebration with their help, you need to decide on the required size of the products. In this article we will tell you some of the nuances of this issue.

Around the world, the diameter of a helium balloon is measured in inches. This is a generally accepted value. Remind: 1 inch = 2.54cm. Measurements are taken along the height of the product (from top to tail), since the width of the balls may differ. Main dimensions: 5.9-10.12 inches. More rarely, balls with a height of 14 and 36 inches are used.

Small balls for us are 12 cm high. These are five-inch products. Arches and garlands are made from them, and they are also convenient for forming frame structures. They create large hearts, numbers or letters.

Next come 9-inch products (22 cm). They are well suited as components of garlands or weaving. For a mass launch, such balloons are filled with helium. They can also be placed under the ceiling in small rooms.

Balls of 12 inches are equal to our 30cm. This is the standard size. Such products are inflated with air or helium. Application – creating shapes.

14-inch balls are used to apply text or images. They are usually thematic. Mostly inflated with helium.

For a surprise ball (when there is content inside), 36-inch balls are most often used. To launch upwards, they are filled with helium.

Most often, aerodesigners use foreign-made balloons in their work (Italy, Colombia, Mexico). Foreign companies indicate the size of balls in inches, not centimeters, which causes many difficulties for Russian customers. To calculate the diameter of the ball, you should know that an inch is equal to 2.5 centimeters.

Main sizes of balls and their applications

1. Giant balls with a diameter of 1 and 2 meters, large balls with a diameter of 90 and 60 cm. These big ones are used for effectively decorating a room, organizing photo sessions, and also making a surprise ball, which is a large ball filled with confetti, toys and small balls . These are great decorative items for a spacious room. Giant balls are often decorated with tassel garlands, which are tassels made of thin paper in bright colors.

2. 14 inches (35 cm). Balls are standard size. They are used for holiday decorations and filled with helium. Not the most popular size of balloons among aero designers, since their final cost with processing and helium is much higher than that of 12-inch balloons, which practically do not differ in volume.

3. 12 inches (30 cm) is the most used balloon size. They are inflated with helium and used as an element of large figures or flowers, graceful arches. The flight time of such a balloon with Hi-float and helium treatment can reach a month under favorable conditions.

4. 10 inches (25 cm). Balls of this size are used for special effects - dropping and launching a large number of balls. They also decorate the halls, hand them out on a stick during events, decorated with the desired logo in advance. These balloons can be inflated with helium and air.

5. 9 inches (23 cm). Small balloons are best inflated with air. Helium-filled balloons of this size look more than modest and have a short flight life. They make luxurious large flowers for decorating any events, arches on a frame, garlands.

6. 5 inches (13 cm). Balls of this size resemble a large apple or orange. Without them, it will not be possible to create figures of different characters, bright numbers for a birthday, or romantic hearts for decorating a podium. They are filled with air, since “fives” filled with helium do not fly. However, helium is simply necessary to fill them when creating an explosion ball, because it is helium that allows them to slowly and beautifully fall, creating a unique effect.

The industry produces balls of various sizes. The manufacturer indicates the size of the balloons on the packaging. For example, they write that these balls are 5" (five inches) in size, or they write that the balls are 30 cm or 12". Let's figure out what this means and how the size of the balls is determined.

The size of inflated balloons refers to the diameter of the inflated balloon at its widest part, across the balloon, i.e. along the equator. The manufacturer indicates the maximum possible size of an inflated balloon. Of course, no one inflates balloons to this size. In practice, balloons are inflated to a size that is less than the maximum. The size of the balloons to be inflated is related to the characteristics of balloons from different manufacturers, and it also depends on the purpose of the balloons to be inflated.

For balloons from each manufacturer, and for each purpose, you can determine the optimal size of inflated balloons. Based on our experience with balls, we will allow ourselves to determine the optimal sizes for different balls

Optimal sizes of inflated balloons

Italian balls GEMAR (Dzhemar):

  • 5" balloons are inflated to a size of 10 cm.
  • 10" balloons are inflated to a size of 20 - 21 cm.
  • 12" balloons are inflated to a size of 22 - 23 cm.

Colombian balls Sempertex (Sempertex)

  • 5" balloons are inflated to a size of 11 cm.
  • 10" balloons are inflated to a size of 22 - 23 cm.
  • 12" balloons are inflated to a size of 25 - 26 cm.

Mexican balls GLOBOS PAYASO (Globos Payatso)

  • 5" balloons are inflated to a size of 12 cm.
  • 12" balloons are inflated to a size of 27 - 28 cm.

Large (meter) 36" balloons are inflated to a size of 80 - 85 cm.

By inflating the air tubes to the optimal size, it is possible to obtain largest dimensions balls with the longest possible life of the balls. Balloons inflated to a size larger than the optimal size are considered overinflated (they resemble a pear), and such balls also have very stretched walls. Overinflated balloons burst easily and deflate quickly. If you inflate balloons to a size that is smaller than the optimal size, the balloons will turn out to be too soft. If you use such balls in products (garlands, panels), then the consumption of such balls will increase due to the small size of the balls.

However, sometimes, when increased strength of the balloons is required (thick walls of the balloons are needed), balloons inflated to a size smaller than the optimal size are used. As a rule, these are street decorations.

Balloons located outdoors receive a lot of damaging effects from sunlight and wind, which cause oxidation of the latex of the balloons (white coating on the balloons). Inflated balloons placed outside become covered with dust, and when they rub against each other under the influence of the wind, the dust scratches the balloons.

Ordinary balloons, inflated to the optimal size, will not last long in outdoor conditions. Therefore, in order to increase the life of balloons on the street, use balloons one size larger and inflate them one size smaller. For example, for an outdoor garland I use 12" Sempertex balloons and inflate them to a diameter of 21 cm.

Balloon size control

The most convenient and in a simple way To ensure a given size of inflated balloons, this is to use a gauge, or as they sometimes say “calibrator”. The gauge is a limiter on the size of the ball. The balloon is inflated to a size exceeding the specified one, and then, by bleeding the air from the balloon, it is passed through the limiter, i.e. calibrate. As soon as the ball reaches a given diameter, the bleeding of air from the ball is stopped and the ball is tied. In this way, you can obtain balls of a given size in unlimited quantities.

Independent calibers, as a rule, are made from large and durable cardboard boxes, on the walls of which holes (round or square) of the required size are cut out. Using just a couple of boxes, you can get sizing holes to fit all types of balls. Also, improvised calibers are used. For example, you can use a pair of chairs, the distance between which is adjusted as needed. In any case, the ball being calibrated must fit into the hole perpendicularly and not at an angle.
