On the outskirts of the village of Sukko, there is a real medieval castle “Lion's Head”. True, it is only a few years old, but still, it is a real castle. It is specially built to host various performances telling about the lives of people in time immemorial. To get to the Lion's Head Castle, you do not need to order transport, but simply walk through the village of Sukko. On the outskirts of it, turn left, a few more tens of meters along a shady, dirt road laid in the thickets of ancient oak trees, and here it is, in all its beauty, a medieval castle with battlements, loopholes, towers and lattice gates.

You can enter the castle at the invitation of the owner of the castle - the Master of Knights. Here, in the castle courtyard, you will see how the knights lived, how they fought for the honor of their ladies, and between battles, you will be amused by the witty jesters from the Master’s retinue. To observe everything that happens in the yard, simple and comfortable seats are installed along the walls. The spectator seats are protected from rain or sun by an awning.

On the battlefield, various episodes from medieval life are played out, here you can see dramatic moments; in battle, victory always goes to one. Chivalrous nobility towards a defeated enemy, as well as funny episodes that show jesters copying the actions of knights.

After battles, knights, as a rule, celebrate their victory and throw a feast. And the owner of the castle, like a true knight, will not forget to invite guests to join the holiday. In the main hall of the castle, at long tables, you will sit with valiant warriors. In a large fireplace, on a spit, the game will be roasted, which will be served to you along with wine, which is stored in the cellars of the castle. During the meal, local beautiful dancers will entertain the feasting guests with beautiful exotic dances.

Night performances are also held at the Lion's Head Castle; they are more colorful, as they are lit mainly by torches. A real fire extravaganza.

African village

You don't have to go there to visit Africa. Africa, in its full form, can be seen near the village of Sukko. The village was built for their performances by people from African countries, and in accordance with primordial African traditions. The village is surrounded by a “fence”, inside a cafe with a stage where representatives of the “dark continent” show rituals, dances and scenes from the life of their ancestors.

When visiting this “village”, you will be surrounded by the spirit of Africa, and the performances that you will see will help you get to know better the characteristics of the people inhabiting this continent. Seats for vacationers are distributed in such a way that the actions taking place on stage are visible from any angle. But that’s not all, the point is that the audience does not just witness the enchanting performance, but gets involved in it, becoming participants in what is happening on stage, and, in the end, become full-fledged characters in the show that is playing out. In addition to the performance, here you can have a tasty and inexpensive snack, you can even drink the favorite strong drink of the inhabitants of Africa, something akin to our moonshine.

You can visit and see the African village in the daytime with children, but admission to the night performance is only for adults. This is a disgusting trend of modern life; not a single spectacular event is complete without a “strawberry”. If it is not there, then there is nothing to see and no one to go. But, in truth, it should be noted that spectators who attended the night performance say, “the show is on the verge of a foul, but does not cause a gag reflex.”

Lake Sukko and swamp cypresses

In the mountains that surround the village of Sukko, there is a lake and river of the same name. The lake itself, framed by low, green-covered mountains, looks like a blue eye. Silence, thickets of deciduous trees and junipers give the lake a charming appearance. The air is filled with the unique aroma of essential wood oils, which makes it incredibly healing. This alone would make the lake a tourist attraction, but at the far end of the lake, right out of the water, are 32 swamp cypress trees. Central America is considered the birthplace of cypress trees, where they grow for up to 600 years and reach a height of 40 - 50 meters. Cypress wood contains a lot of resin and therefore does not rot in water.

It is unknown how these American cypress trees got here. Even local guides have not yet come up with any legend or mysterious story about the appearance of these trees.

The lake itself is of artificial origin, a long time ago, local residents blocked the stream and formed a lake. The dam can still be seen now, but there is nothing about the swamp cypress. Moreover, they grow in clusters, only in one place.

In order to look at this miracle, you need to walk, since everything is nearby, or you can go around the lake on horseback. Not far from the lake there is a horse base that provides services such as horseback riding in the surrounding area. From above you can see a little better, and there’s more exoticism.

Here, for a small fee, you can go fishing; the lake is full of crucian carp, carp, and carp. And in a nearby cafe, local miracle chefs will happily prepare the caught fish for you.

For children

Many adults and children are well aware of the children's humorous film magazine "Yeralash". In the village of Sukko, there is a children’s camp “Smena”, a film crew comes here every year to film their next episodes. So the lucky ones may be lucky and they will see how the filming takes place, and maybe they themselves will get into the frame.

Besides this camp, there is another one, this is “Braveheart”. The camp has an adventure focus, here they teach you how to climb steep mountains, control sails, and dive into the sea with scuba gear. Those who want to play a “war game” will enjoy paintball, and fans of films about “redskins and palefaces” can run through the mountains with a bow, like real Indians.

Between the villages of Sukko and Varvarovka there is a small park - the Antika Museum. Various items of ancient Greek themes are collected here. These are clothes, dishes, weapons and much more. The park has a shooting range where you can shoot with crossbows. The museum has a small pottery workshop where you can try yourself as a potter.

The village of Sukko is located in the Krasnodar region, just 13 kilometers from Anapa. It attracts guests with clear sea water next to the pebble coast, a milder climate than in Anapa, as well as huge cypress trees that grow right in the middle of the lake of the same name.

Until the mid-19th century, the Adyghe tribe lived in the area of the village. Translated from their language, the area is called “valley of water.” Before the Adygeis, Greeks lived in the valley, whose household items are in the “Working Shift” museum.

Despite the fact that the area has a rich history, there are almost no historical attractions here. We have collected locations that are worth visiting nearby.

Lake

The main feature of the village is the lake. It gave the name to the settlement. One part of it belongs to the Anapa district, and the other (northern) to Novorossiysk. This is where the famous cypress trees are located.

The reservoir is located at an altitude of 118 meters above sea level, so it is surrounded by forests and small mountains. Swimming here is not recommended. Nearby there is a coast with clear sea water.

Entertainment: cafe, rental of boats, bicycles and picnic equipment.

Planning a trip? That way!

We have prepared some useful gifts for you. They will help you save money while preparing for your trip.

The lake is located away from the main street of the village; it is better to get to it by minibus. A few hundred meters from the reservoir you will have to abandon transport and go on foot.

water cypress trees

32 swamp cypresses growing directly from the water are listed in the Red Book. They do not rot due to the special composition of resins, so they grow quietly in the middle of the lake.

It is unknown how these trees got into the valley, because their homeland is Mexico. There is no information about any Mexican settlers in the valley. There are several versions of the appearance of trees:

  1. The noble couple brought seedlings from California. They planted them in the lake in honor of their deceased son.
  2. In the 1930s, the seedlings were planted by the Soviet leadership, who wanted to conduct an experiment in this way: whether the trees would survive in an unusual climate. After all, the average annual temperature in the village is 10-12 degrees, which is much lower than in the homeland of cypress trees.

There are a lot of entertainment venues in the village:

  • 15 cafes;
  • aquapark;
  • free-standing water slides;
  • two theme parks;
  • Ferris wheel;
  • terrain for jeep rallies and even an equestrian center.

You need to pay not for the entrance to the park itself, but for individual entertainment:

  1. Fishing on a prepared shore. There are comfortable platforms installed here, there are even awnings under which you can feel comfortable in any weather. An hour of fishing costs 350 rubles. If you managed to catch a kilogram of fish, you need to add another 150 rubles.
  2. Paintball battles. There is a play area equipped with shelters, towers and parodies of military installations. Participants are provided with protective suits and masks. The cost of participation for one person is 450 rubles.
  3. Rope town. The best attraction for children. At a height of 2-7 meters, participants can, using a safety net, walk along hanging bridges, rope roads and even ride a bicycle on a tightrope. There is zero risk of injury - everyone is provided with protective equipment. Regardless of age, one person will need to pay 300 rubles.

You can also shoot at the shooting range. There is another shooting gallery in the village - “Robin Hood”. The prices are the same - 150 rubles per batch. They shoot from crossbows that imitate historical ones, and from bows.

Lion's Head Castle

The castle is stylized as the Middle Ages. Knightly tournaments on horseback are held here, with spectators watching from the stands. They can accommodate up to 1200 people. The entire building is made of stone, and the arena inside is sandy and fenced with protective structures and traditional ribbons with flags. The performances are especially impressive at night. There is a canopy over the spectator seats that protects from rain and precipitation.

Admission is paid, but the price depends on the time (weekday or weekend), the age of visitors, and the availability of benefits. The following activities are available at the castle:

  • blacksmith shop;
  • Museum of Medieval Torture;
  • tournament competitions;
  • exhibition of ancient outfits and weapons;
  • "Robin Hood" shooting gallery with bows and crossbows.

All staff are dressed in the spirit of the Middle Ages; visitors can purchase some attributes of that time - hats, jewelry, etc.

You can get to the center by shuttle bus number 109 (to the Lukomorye stop) or on your own. If tourists travel by public transport, they will have to walk along Sovetskaya Street and then turn left (you need to follow the signs).

People get to the tournament as part of an excursion program from Anapa. This is a more convenient choice, since tourists will be transported by excursion bus.

Park of Ancient Culture "Dumeau"

On the way to Varvarovka there is the historical center “Dumeau”. Here you can get acquainted with the ancient culture and household items of the Greeks that were found in the Sukko Valley. In the museum you can see:

  • antique clothing;
  • decorations;
  • clay shards and dishes;
  • weapons of ancient times.

Some exhibits (more precisely, their copies) are available to visitors: you can fight with swords or shoot with a crossbow. It is allowed to wear some elements of Greek attire. Children and adults can take a master class on creating Greek vases on a pottery wheel. The clay mixture is identical to the ancient one.

The cost of visiting is low: a child ticket costs 100 rubles, an adult ticket costs 150.

In their free time, tourists here visit the beach, cafes and restaurants on the central (Sovetskaya) street of the village, and ride water slides on the coast.

What to see and where to go in Sukko

One of the resort villages in the Anapa resort area, Sukko, occupies a unique location. That’s why it has quite a lot of places of interest and other attractive things - there are places to go and things to see!

Popular seaside resort

And indeed, if we take, for example, such resort villages of the municipality as Dzhemete or Vityazevo, then they are located at some distance from the coast.

But Sukko is located almost right next to the Black Sea, which never freezes on the southern borders of Russia. Moreover, on the northern side it is framed by the foothills of the Great Caucasus Range. True, their spurs are not that great in height - from three hundred to more than four hundred meters. But this is quite enough to create your own special climate at the resort. The city of Anapa itself is open to the steppes. In summer it is much drier and hotter here. But in Sukko one climatic period gives way to another - it is cooler in summer and warmer in winter: the foothills do not allow cold winter air to pass through. In summer, they become barriers to dry winds. Sukko is framed on three sides by foothills. Moreover, they are picturesque. Broad-leaved forests (oak, beech), coniferous trees and, in particular, juniper groves saturate the air with oxygen - it is clean and transparent. Sea breezes also improve the health of tourists. They are saturated with iodine, calcium, bromine, and other healthy salts. There are more than three thousand local residents at the resort, and most of them are employed in the tourism sector. They work in sanatoriums, boarding houses, recreation centers, maintain guest houses, mini-hotels, and allow guests into their private sector. So there is no problem of finding a roof over your head here. You can rent a room, an apartment for a corporate event, a turnkey house, and if money is really tight, an ordinary bed. Sukko is also famous for the fact that it houses the largest children's health center in Russia, Smena. Many stories of the humorous newsreel "Yeralash" were and are being filmed in this camp and with the participation of its children who came here for rest and treatment.

There are legends about him. Listed in the Red Book. It's not that big - 0.4 hectares. But it is unique in that swamp cypresses grow in it. According to the official version, they appeared here in 934 - 1935. Their homeland is America. Specifically the states of Texas and Florida. But they also took root in the local reservoir.

They stand up to their knees in water and do not rot. Because the trunks are thickly impregnated with resins. They change color according to the seasons - emerald green in spring, yellow-orange in autumn. Local residents are worried about the swamp cypresses: time flies - the trees grow old and may die. The worries are understandable, but in vain: swamp cypresses have lived for more than six centuries. In addition, local authorities intend to increase their number.
As for the legends around cypress trees, according to one of them, the trees were planted by parents in memory of the untimely death of their son. And they came here from California. According to the second legend, cypress trees are now trees. And in the distant past they were brave young men from the Natukhai tribe that inhabited the coast. The tribe worshiped pagan gods. And this aroused the wrath of the Thunderer himself. As punishment, he sent thunder and lightning along with floods against the Natukhais. And the people would have died. But thirty-three young heroes stood shoulder to shoulder in his defense. Their courage so amazed the Thunder God that with a wave of his hand he tamed the elements. But he turned the heroes into swamp cypresses. They have been standing in the lake ever since! As if on guard of their settlement. The picture is so fantastic that not a single tourist passes by - all visitors strive to get to the lake and marvel at the swamp cypresses! By the way, the lake also has another name - Sukko, which is the same as the resort. And the translation is quite simple - valley of water. In addition to the lake, there is also a river of the same name flowing into the sea.

Stele "Soaring Eagle"

Anapa is located in the subtropical zone. On one side, the sea splashes at its foot. On the other, as we mentioned, it is open to the steppes. And from the third side the Great Caucasus Mountains approach it. This fact is noted by the Soaring Eagle. It's just a stone's throw from Sukko. And all tourists arriving at the resort, as well as guests from other places, flock to the already famous attraction. They take pictures around her and film her with a television camera. It would be no exaggeration to say that during the high season the stele is a real pilgrimage!

Lion's Head Castle

If you still need to overcome some distance over the hills to get to the Soaring Eagle monument, then the Lion's Head castle is located almost in the village of Sukko. More specifically, on the slopes near the lake. The place is most picturesque - surrounded by oak forest. The castle itself and other buildings adjacent to it are made in the medieval style. At the castle there are workshops of a blacksmith and a potter. Stable. Robin Hood's shooting gallery. Museum of the Medieval Inquisition. Tourists are greatly impressed by the lists - the battles of knights. Specially trained horses take part in them. Professional stuntmen, artists, dancers, and fencers act as knights. Those who come for rest and treatment in Sukko should definitely visit the Lion's Head Castle and watch exciting shows.

Church of St. Barbara

It is located next to Sukko - in the village of Varvarovka, and the residents of the resort consider it theirs. And this is his story. In 1993, which is no longer close to us, the surrounding residents witnessed a mesmerizing miracle - in the evening, at sunset, the figure of a woman in white suddenly appeared in the sky. She pointed to the spring. And she disappeared. This spring has been flowing from the ground for many years. And its water was healing for people. He drank it and was cured of his ailments. As for the woman in white, she is connected with another legend that exists here. They recognized her as Varvara, a girl who had once lived here and diligently cared for the sick and infirm. For this zeal and compassion, the Orthodox Church canonized her as a Saint. The witnesses to the miracle fulfilled the will of Saint Barbara. A temple named after her was built over the spring. It is not large, but stands out for its architecture. And it was built with public donations. And the people's path to it does not become overgrown. Every believer rushes to the temple. To pray to Saint Barbara. And drink its healing water. For your physical and spiritual strengthening.

And it’s just a stone’s throw from Big Utrish!

And to be absolutely precise - only two kilometers. Not much, considering what unique attractions await you there. And above all, the only dolphinarium with an open-air theater on the entire Russian Black Sea coast. Tourists flock to it from Novorossiysk, Sochi, Gelendzhik, other cities and villages, and even more so from Anapa. And there is something to see. Bottlenose dolphins and other marine animals are kept here in their natural environment. The Dolphinarium is protected from the sea only by nets. So the water is running and clean, and the dolphins feel quite comfortable in it. And how they perform! It's not enough to tell. It’s better to see the fantastic action for yourself! Jumping in pairs through hoops, virtuoso games with balls, dancing over the water - you can’t tell us about everything. And at the end, the dolphins slide out of the water onto the platform and pose with you for the camera or television camera. You can hug them, kiss them and even swim with them in the waters of the dolphinarium. You can sail to the performances on pleasure boats or arrive on special regular or excursion buses. Tourists staying in Sukko are in an advantageous position in this regard: traveling two kilometers is a mere trifle for them!

Tour of the reserve

Bolshoi Utrish is not only one of the popular resorts of the Anapa municipality. It is a landscape floristic and marine reserve. It was created back in 1994. But it received its official status in 2010. The resort is part of the Abrau Peninsula. The area of the reserve is 5112 hectares. The length of its coastline is over 12 kilometers. It is here and only here that the iron tree grows, which instantly sinks in the water. And it is a relic of the Mediterranean. In general, 170 species of trees and shrubs grow in the reserve. It is freshwater and the largest in the Caucasus, with a beautiful embankment!
Sukko has its own equestrian base. Accompanied by experienced instructors, you and your children can go horseback riding in the surrounding foothills. Or take a ride on the same foothills in powerful cars. Finally, go diving (scuba diving) and also accompanied by experienced instructors. If you are lucky, you will pick up a rare artifact from the day - an amphora, a coin, or another ancient rarity. And there is no need to talk about the beauty of the living inhabitants of the underwater world - blue and white jellyfish, crabs, an abundance of a wide variety of fish species, it is possible to meet the Black Sea katran shark. There is no need to be afraid of her: she does not attack people. Great spearfishing! Including with a television camera. Or, naturally, for fish.
