How much money should you take in Vietnam? Prices for holidays in Vietnam. How much money should you take with you? Where to change currency

How much money to take to Vietnam in 2019 for 10 days for food, entertainment, excursions and shopping. The most popular resort in this country is Nha Trang, so let's take it as an example.

Vietnam is a cheap country, and it would seem that you don’t need to take a lot of money with you on vacation. However, given that you are a white person, you will pay several times more for everything, so the question arises of how much money you need in Vietnam for a comfortable or economical holiday. Even if you have lived in Vietnam for many years, this does not guarantee you low prices. But you will already have an idea of the cost and will know where and what they are trying to deceive you on.

So, in restaurants in Phan Thiet, I came across menus without prices. It turned out that local residents pay one price for the same dishes, and foreigners pay another price. The same goes for taxis and other services in Vietnam. No one is immune from this, you just may not know it or not notice it.

Therefore, if you are deciding how much money to take to Vietnam in 2019, it is worth considering all the extra fees that tourists are subject to just because they have white skin and are foreigners.

You can visit many places in Nha Trang on your own, for example, by taking a motorbike or traveling by city bus. If you decide to go on excursions, then with a discount their cost will be $80-120 for 3-4 excursions. The main costs will be food. You can eat in Vietnamese cafes for $2-3, or in cafes adapted for tourists. There the price tag will be higher, about $5-6 per dish. In general, a day with fruits, juices, lunches and dinners will cost $12-17, depending on who eats. Also, if you buy souvenirs, all sorts of magnets and small items, they cost about $4-5. And for souvenirs in the form of crocodile leather products, pearls, snakes, ostriches, the cost will be about $100.

How much do you spend on the trip in general?

It is difficult to determine the exact amount for a trip even for 2 weeks. Due to the desire to save money on excursions, you have to create a schedule during your vacation, and devote your free time to relaxation and entertainment.

Therefore, first of all, you should choose the type of travel. On average, a tour from an operator for 10-14 days costs 100 thousand rubles. With this money, you can independently pay for tickets (20 thousand), for overnight stays (10 thousand), set aside money for food (15 thousand), and spend the remaining amount on active recreation and shopping. By depriving yourself of some benefits, you can save a lot on your vacation, namely, about 60 thousand rubles, which is more than enough for most available excursions and shopping.

Having decided to go on a trip through a company, a tourist burdens himself with additional expenses in exchange for organizing his route to the chosen country and the quality of service. If the traveler is wealthy, he can well afford to spend a thousand dollars over the cost of the trip. And even more so, allow yourself to return to the resort to continue learning about traditions and history.

The amount of pocket expenses for a vacation per day is usually $50-100. This amount should be enough for excursions, meals, travel and other services. In general, they take more than they expect to spend. An amount of $1000-1500 is quite enough for general acquaintance with the tourist life of the population.

The question of the amount of funds intended for recreation is purely individual and depends on lifestyle and hobbies. Taking into account the full list of possible activities for 2 weeks, on average you will need about $1000.

Let's go to a Vietnamese supermarket, maybe cook it yourself, if possible, it will be more economical.

For a family of three, breakfast may consist of milk, scrambled eggs and bread. The cost of these products is about 32,000 VND for a liter of milk, a loaf of bread - 15,000 VND, 12 pieces of eggs - 30,000 VND.

For lunch you can cook potatoes (22,000 VND per 1 kg), chicken fillet (88,000 per 1 kg), tomato salad (16,000 per 1 kg). For dessert we buy apples, bananas or oranges: for 1 kilogram - 58,000, 21,000 and 46,000, respectively.

In rice-growing Vietnam, the price of rice is almost equal to the price of bread and starts from 16,000 dong per 1 kg. For dinner, you can pamper your stomach with sandwiches with local cheese - from VND 210,000 per 1 kg. Beef in Vietnam costs, like cheese, almost 240,000 dong per 1 kg.

For adult tourists who want to relax and buy alcohol for dinner, we note that prices in supermarkets for strong drinks are such that one of the cheapest drinks is Vietnamese vodka - 55,000 dong. A bottle of wine will cost on the shelf from 48,000 VND to 65,000 VND for a local variety; for expensive foreign wines the price is higher. Rum sells for VND100,000 or more. Imported beer costs about VND 30,000, while local beer costs half as much.

Bottom line: supermarket food will cost around VND 180,000 per person.

How much does it cost to travel around the country by taxi and bus?

Local residents use both public transport, i.e. by buses and taxis. You will only find shuttle buses in big cities in Vietnam. A one-way ticket within the city costs 6,000-8,000 VND. If in the capital the fare will cost from 6 thousand dong, then in Nha Trang it will cost 4 thousand. Buses run every 15-20 minutes.

Local transport in Dalat is recognized as the best. Bus stops are clearly marked, the ticket price depends on the distance traveled and is written inside and outside the vehicle.

Comfortable buses from several companies run between cities. Places can be sitting and sleeping. The cost of traveling on intercity buses will depend on the type of seat, carrier company and distance. For example, from Dalat to Ho Chi Minh City you will pay 210,000 VND for a bed.

We have a separate article about taxis in Vietnam. Let's just say a few words about this type of transport. Many tourists prefer to use taxis in Vietnam. There is no attachment to time, again comfort plays an important role, and prices, although calculated in thousands, are quite acceptable.

By ordering a city tour by taxi, you will spend between 70-100 thousand dong. A trip to Suoi Tien Park, 19 kilometers from Saigon, will cost VND 120,000. Visit to Phong Nha National Park (only 40 km from Dan Hoi), i.e. a round trip taxi ride will cost a little more than $35.

How much money to take to Nha Trang? If you are going to Nha Trang, be sure to read this post to the end. Today we will not only talk about how much money to take to Nha Trang, but also cover the topic of money in Vietnam, where to change money in Nha Trang, and also show our budget for a month’s stay.

As you already know, we lived in Vietnam for four months, namely in Nha Trang. Therefore, we have sufficient experience on the topic of how much money to take to Nha Trang. We will begin to explore this issue with a story about money in Vietnam.

The currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong (VND). There are banknotes in circulation in different denominations from 100 to 500,000 VND.

It’s very easy to make a mistake with so many zeros, so every time you make a calculation, carefully review the bills you give. 10,000 VND can easily be confused with 100,000 and vice versa.

Money in Vietnam is not made of paper, but of thin plastic. There are similar banknotes in different Asian countries, for example, in Malaysia. This property of money in Vietnam saved our budget more than once when we were caught in tropical rain during an excursion or swam in. Paper money would simply rot or break.

What currency should I take to Vietnam?

In Vietnam you can take almost any freely convertible currency. There are plenty of banks in Nha Trang where you can exchange it. We'll talk about this in the next section. But the most profitable thing is to take dollars and not just dollars, but $100 bills

The VND to dollar exchange rate has been stable for about 5 years and fluctuates around 21,000 dong per dollar. Explain guys how this is??? That the crisis does not affect them?

Dollars are accepted almost everywhere. From hotels to the corner bar with cheap rum.

$100 banknotes are in particular demand. They give the most favorable rate, and sometimes small bills are not accepted at all.

If you are traveling with rubles, you can change them at or at a branch of the Russian-Vietnamese Bank, but the rate there is simply extortionate, so if you are going to Vietnam, then take dollars.

Where to change money in Nha Trang?

You can change money in Nha Trang in any convenient place. This could be a hotel reception, a travel agency, a store, a bar, or the classic option - a bank.

The exchange rate is approximately the same everywhere. In banks it is slightly lower, but there is almost no risk. To exchange you will need a passport. Also to get a good rate. You need to change as many dollars as possible. However, the principle is the same as ours in Russia.

In many cases, it is not even necessary to change money. We paid for many excursions in dollars.

If you come to Nha Trang on vacation with a card, then you will definitely be interested in the question of where to withdraw money in Nha Trang?

Nha Trang is full of ATMs of various banks. All of them accept cards of Russian banks issued in the VISA and MasterCard payment systems. There will be a separate post about bank cards for travel. Don't forget to subscribe to the news at the end of the article.

The main feature of cash withdrawal is that the maximum withdrawal amount is only 2,000,000 dong (about $100). Those. if you need a large amount, you will have to withdraw it several times, and for each such operation a commission will be charged.

The minimum commission we had was 20,000 dong. This commission is offered by Vietcombank. There are a lot of these green ATMs very similar to our Sberbank in the tourist center of Nha Trang. Watch this video instruction on how to withdraw money in Nha Trang from a Vietcombank ATM.

They say that there are ATMs with the ability to withdraw up to 15,000,000 dong at a time and another option without a commission, but there are none in the center of Nha Trang.

Additionally, for using the card you will pay a fee for withdrawals and conversions. Particularly unprofitable in this regard are Sberbank cards of the Visa payment system; the commission there is higher than that of a card from the same Sberbank, but of the MasterCard payment system.

How much money to take to Nha Trang?

Now we will share our thoughts on how much money you should take to Nha Trang. Let's consider the main expense items: housing, transportation, food, excursions, massage, shopping.

Housing in Nha Trang.

If you are not on a package tour, then you can rent accommodation in Nha Trang yourself. We wrote about this separately

The easiest option is to book a hotel through this service. This is the number we managed to rent in Nha Trang through a promotion.

Hotel room rates start from $5 per night. The room will have everything you need for relaxation. All the same, you will only come here to sleep.

Your total budget for 10 days at the hotel is $50.

You can also rent an apartment. Two weeks will cost you $200-250.

There are also a lot of taxis. The cost is quite reasonable. Prices from 8000 VND per km. It all depends on the type of taxi and the distance of the trip.

You can also ride a local equivalent of a rickshaw for 40,000 VND.

Total transport costs for 10 days are approximately $70-80.

Food in Nha Trang.

We continue to discuss how much money to take to Nha Trang. And now let's talk about food.

If your meal is not included in the price of your trip, then you have a huge selection of places where you can eat.

The cost of food is about the same as in Thailand. Regular cheap fried rice with a piece of meat costs 30,000 VND. They also give it free soup.

An excellent snack is baguettes with different fillings. The most delicious option was in, but you can also find decent sandwiches in Nha Trang. They cost from 20,000 dong.

Nha Trang is full of Russian cafes. Here are the approximate prices.

On average, lunch per person in a cafe costs about 120,000 VND. Restaurants, of course, will cost more.

Total for food is approximately 300,000 dong per person per day ($15) – $150.

We wrote in detail about the current prices in Nha Trang and our budget for wintering, islands. The rest is optional.

Alcohol in Nha Trang is very cheap. Beer costs from VND 10,000 per bottle. Everything in clubs is a little more expensive, but if you want, set aside another $100 for this.

A massage will cost you from VND 100,000 per session. Take the full course right away for 750,000 – 1,000,000 VND.

Total entertainment for 10 days is about $500.

Shopping in Nha Trang.

We have already talked about shopping in Nha Trang. Nha Trang is not the coolest place for shopaholics, but you will have to spend money.

I recommend paying attention to your skin. I bought a very nice wallet at a very affordable price. You can also look at the jewelry. There is gold, pearls and silver with different stones. Also be sure to leave money for souvenirs. Go to, for example, or to.

So, to summarize, when asked how much money to take to Nha Trang for two weeks (10 days), it is approximately $1000. Those. The tourist’s golden rule is $100 a day and it holds true here. This is a normal option.

It’s quite possible to keep it under $500. To do this, you need to reduce costs for shopping, partying and attend excursions on your own or in a reduced format.

Of course, this is a rather subjective analysis of how much money you should take to Nha Trang. Everyone's needs are different. Here you can easily spend $1000 per day. If there is a desire, there will always be options for where to spend it.

The first month of our trip to Southeast Asia has come to an end. The month flew by at incredible speed, we didn’t even notice how our vacation in Vietnam ended. This is the first country from which we found our open-ended journey through Asia, so everything seems somehow unreal and different. Every day prepared pleasant surprises and new discoveries for us. In addition, it is inexpensive, warm, sunny, a beach, seafood and delicious fruits, and what else is needed for a good holiday?! In this article I want to talk about prices in Vietnam and summarize our costs.

Your level of comfort and preferences may differ slightly from ours, so please do not rely too much on our costs. In each specific case, they can be either a little less or much higher.

Prices of flights to Vietnam

The length of Vietnam is more than 2,500 km. along the South China Sea. The country is quite large, so when looking for air tickets to Vietnam, you need to immediately decide on the cities you want to visit. We planned to settle down, so we bought air tickets from Moscow to Ho Chi Minh City. We took one-way tickets, as we continued our journey through Southeast Asia, and after Vietnam we flew to Thailand. We paid $400 per person for our tickets, but if you take tickets in both directions at once, the price will be significantly lower.

The cost of air tickets to Vietnam is influenced by many factors: airport of departure/arrival, tourist season, current airline promotions and others. But there are several rules that will help reduce the cost of flying at any time of the year.

  • When searching for tickets, do not be tied to a specific date. Look at prices for at least one or two weeks. There are times when you can find flights to Vietnam 20 - 30% cheaper if you check all the numbers.
  • Typically, the cheapest flights are to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. If none of these airports suits you, then it makes sense to still take tickets to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, but then transfer to a domestic airline flight.
  • If you take a round trip ticket at once, the prices will be significantly lower.
  • The closer to the departure date, the more expensive the flight cost. Therefore, do not delay too much with the purchase of air tickets.

Housing prices in Vietnam

We paid $480 for housing - this was basic housing in Mui Ne for 30 days and hotels in Dalat and Nha Trang.
In Mui Ne we booked accommodation for 4 days with the expectation of finding something locally. But we liked it so much that we decided to extend our stay at Diem Lien Guesthouse. For the remaining days they paid directly to the owners, taking into account a small discount. In Asia, the cheapest option is to look for accommodation locally. If you are planning a budget or long-term vacation, I recommend booking a hotel for 2-3 days and choosing the right option on the spot. This way, you will not only be able to “feel” the property, but also bargain for a lower price. But keep in mind that there are no holidays on your dates, otherwise it will be difficult to find accommodation locally, and even at an affordable price. We rented a room in a guest house with all amenities for $12 x 30, for a month it came out to $360. For $1 in the guesthouse you can order breakfast of your choice.

  • Hotel at Crazy House $70 per night. This price did not include breakfast, it could be ordered separately, the cost was $7, but the breakfast was incredibly huge and filling.
  • Tabalo hostel for two nights 50$. This price included breakfast, but what we were served as food can hardly be called breakfast. A 0.5 liter bottle of water was waiting for each guest in the dining room. and one banana.

Depending on the region, the price may vary slightly. We rented housing in Mui Ne, Da Lat and Nha Trang and the price situation was like this:

  • The cost of living in a guest house is 6 - 20 $ per day;
  • The cost of hotel accommodation is from $15 and above, for $20 - 25 per night you can find an excellent hotel;
  • Private villas from $1,300 per month and above;

According to my observations, housing prices in Vietnam are significantly lower than in Thailand, Malaysia, and even more so in Sri Lanka.

Prices for transport in Vietnam

Almost all the time we traveled on bikes. Even when we went to Dalat (350 km in both directions) and Nha Trang (600 km in both directions). We rented one bike for a month because if you rent for a long time, the price is lower. For our iron horse we paid $5 x 30 = $150 + gasoline and $100 for repairs (we changed the oil, repaired the needle on the speedometer, and once punctured a tire).

  • Bike rental - 5 - 7$ (100,000 - 120,000 VND)
  • Taxi - $0.5 per landing (10,000 - 12,000 VND) + 3,000 VND per kilometer
  • Gasoline at the gas station - 25,000 VND
  • Gasoline in roadside shops or cafes (pour from a glass bottle) - VND 30,000
  • Replacement of a broken camera (in the city) - 8 - 10$ (160,000 - 200,000 VND)
  • Replacement of a broken camera (on the highway) - 5 - 7$ (100,000 - 140,000 VND)
  • Oil change - $5 (100,000 VND)
  • Repair the speedometer needle - $4 (80,000VND)
  • Bike wash - $2 (40,000 VND)

Food prices in Vietnam

Since we lived in a guest house without a kitchen, there was no opportunity to cook on our own; we ate in a cafe 2-3 times a day. Prices in Vietnam are low, so we didn’t overpay too much if we cooked it ourselves. In a month we ate $600 worth of food, taking into account the fact that we ate a lot of seafood, tried even cobra, for which we paid almost $100.

  • Shrimp - 4 - 5$ (80,000 - 100,000VND)
  • Squid - 3 - 5$ (60,000 - 100,000 VND)
  • Fish - 3 - 5$ (60,000 - 100,000 VND)
  • Clams - 4 - 6$ (80,000 - 120,000 VND)

Prices for excursions in Vietnam

We did not use the services of travel agencies; we organized all trips ourselves. In Vietnam, many attractions are free or the price is quite symbolic. Therefore, the cost of entrance tickets was only $50 for two.

  • Reclining Buddha Statue in Phan Thiet - $11 / 220,000 VND
  • Fairy Creek in Mui Ne - $0.25 / VND 5,000
  • Red Dunes – 5$ / 100,000 VND for rental mats
  • Flower Park in Dalat - 1$ / 20,000 VND
  • Pongour Waterfall – 0.5$ / 10,000 VND
  • Cham Towers Po Nagar – 1$ / 20,000 VND
  • Monkey Island in Nha Trang – 6$ / 120,000 VND

We only paid for entrance in these places; in the rest there was no entrance fee.

Personal hygiene products and mosquito repellents – $15

From my calculations it is clear that prices for holidays in Vietnam are not very high, especially when compared with such tourist countries as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. For a month in Vietnam, we spent $2,200 including air tickets from Moscow to Ho Chi Minh City; without tickets, the price would have been $1,400. It’s up to you to decide whether it’s a lot or a little; everyone has a different budget and requirements for the level of comfort. On my own behalf, I can add that we felt comfortable with this amount, especially considering that the average salary of a Vietnamese is $300. We tried a lot of new things, both in terms of food and entertainment, if not for this, our costs could have been significantly lower.
