By bus

There are no direct bus services from Russia to Sweden. You can get there with a change in Helsinki, Turkey or other cities in Finland.

The cheapest way to get to Sweden is to take an organized tour from St. Petersburg. Three-day tours are organized daily by several major travel agencies and cost from 30 euros. Such a tour usually involves departure in the evening, crossing the border at night, early morning arrival in Helsinki, and a short excursion program. By car

By plane

The easiest and fastest way to get from Moscow to Stockholm is by plane. There are three airports near Stockholm: Arlanda, Bromma and Skavsta.

The main and closest international airport in Stockholm is Arlanda. This is where you will fly if you take a ticket for a direct flight from Aeroflot, terminal 5. The flight is very short, only 2 hours and you are there. The cost of a round-trip ticket per person costs approximately 235 USD (14,000 rubles).

How to get there from the airport

From Arlanda Airport you will still need to get to Stockholm, as it is located 42 km north of the city.

On the Arlanda Express

This is the fastest and easiest option. The ticket can be purchased directly at the airport (either from a machine or at the information desk) or purchased in advance online. From the arrivals hall you need to take the elevator down to the train platform. In 20 minutes you will arrive at Stockholm Central Station. There is also the T-Centralen metro station - the central station, from where it is convenient to get to any place.

Arlanda Express provides a lot of tariffs. For example, if you are traveling with a child under 17 years of age, they are entitled to free travel. Young people (up to 25 years old inclusive) travel at a reduced rate of 17 USD (150 SEK) one way. The price for an adult ticket is 32 USD (280 SEK) / 1 trip. Relatively recently, tariffs called “early bird” have appeared: if you already know that you will give preference to the fast train, then you can purchase tickets at a discounted price: 18 USD (if you bought a ticket 90 days before the trip), 22 USD (if 30 days) and 29 USD (for 2 weeks). If you are traveling with two, three or four people, the price for all tickets purchased together will be even lower.

By bus

In my opinion, this is the most optimal price/time spent on travel ratio. Comfortable Flygbussarna buses run to the city; travel time is 45 minutes. If you book a ticket through the website, then indicate “Arlanda” in the “airport” column, and “Citytermenalen” in the “path” column. An adult ticket will cost 11 USD (99 SEK), for children from 8 to 17 years old - 10 USD (89 SEK). There is also a family ticket. For two adults and three children, the cost will be 39 USD (349 SEK) one way. Please note that these prices are valid for purchasing a ticket on the official website. Tickets can also be purchased at the airport, from a machine or on a bus. But in this case, the cost will most likely be slightly higher.

By taxi

You can also take a taxi from the airport to the city. To be honest, I have never used this option, as it takes a significant toll on my wallet. On average, a taxi ride takes 40 minutes and costs approximately 51 USD (450 SEK). Prices depend on the company you choose and the direction (to or from the city).

By public transport

This is the cheapest way, which tourists almost never use. First, you need to take local bus no. 583 to Märsta station, then take the local train (line no. 36) for 65 minutes to central Stockholm. In total, 8 USD (72 SEK) for a one-way trip or 6 USD (50 SEK) with an SL card.

By train

By train + ferry

It is possible to get to Stockholm by combining train and ferry. That is, you travel to Tallinn by train, and then to Stockholm by ferry Romantika or Viktorija. The airport and port are half a step away from each other. I considered this option when I wanted to get there cheaper, but decided that the difference of 35–50 USD was not worth the time spent on the road. After all, you first need to get to Tallinn, and then travel another 17 hours (at night) by ferry.

Such a long trip will definitely force you to spend money on food. So, according to my calculations, there will be no savings here.

However, if you plan a trip to both Stockholm and Stockholm, the option turns out to be an interesting one. You can also get there by train and ferry. The ferry route is operated by Tallink Silja (from Tallinn) and Vikingline (from). Prepare for a 16-hour journey by water (if you go in winter, it will also be stormy). Ferries also run from St. Petersburg (3 times a week) and daily from Riga.

By car

Stockholm is not accessible by land, so the only way to travel with your four-wheeled friend is by ferry. In this case, you must first get to Turku or St. Petersburg, and then swim. Car owners mainly prefer driving through Finland: it’s cheaper and the roads are better.

Thus, it turns out that you first need to cover a distance of 1300 km from Moscow to get to the port. Such a journey will take at least 15 hours (this is if there are no traffic jams and with fast border control), and you will have to pay about 71 USD (4,000 RUB) for gasoline. And then spend 16 hours on the ferry. As a result, the road from Moscow to Stockholm by car will take 31 hours under the best circumstances.

By the way, on some ferries there is even a so-called “car package”, which provides space for a car and a cabin for 4 people. Since prices in Sweden are “biting”, many are thinking about transporting their own gasoline. So, the maximum volume of imported gasoline is 10 liters. Traveling to Stockholm by car is quite a rarity; few tourists choose this option. If you can’t imagine moving around the city without wheels, you can always rent a car. Stockholm in summer

In summer in Stockholm, as a rule, the temperature is very comfortable - about +20 °C. The city is dressed in greenery: at this time you can walk, visit outdoor attractions (for example, the Skansen ethnographic museum, Carl Milles Park and Gröna-Lund amusement park) and get around by bicycle.

In the summer in Stockholm there are a lot of different events for every taste: Swedish Flag Day, Midsummer Festival (Midsommar), Stockholm Gay Pride, Night Run and, of course, the Stockholm Culture Festival (Kulturfestivalen). I will tell you more about them below.

Already at the beginning of autumn it becomes quite cool. And even though the indigenous people of Sweden wear thin shirts, I, as a tourist from Moscow, sometimes even take a down jacket with me. In October, Stockholm has a chance to attend a sweet chocolate festival, and in November the whole city is actively preparing for Christmas.

Christmas markets open everywhere, store windows are decorated for the New Year, and festive illuminations are hung throughout the city. However, in the fall there is only preparation for the holidays, and it gets dark very early. You practically won't see tourists on the streets. Personally, I don’t have much desire to wander around in the dark, and I don’t manage to look around as much as I would like.

Stockholm in spring

My favorite time in Stockholm is at the end of April - beginning of May, when the whole Kungsträdgården is covered in pink petals. Cherry blossoms are a fantastic sight! These days a huge number of people gather near the trees. Some come here to take pictures, some come to watch, and some just spend their lunch break in this beauty. Also in April, Culture Night is held in Stockholm. Visiting some museums is free and they offer various entertainment programs. The temperature in spring in Stockholm is practically no different from the temperature in Moscow.

And in April (30th) it’s the King of Sweden’s birthday. On this occasion, festivities and festive events are held in the center of Stockholm. And on the night from April 30 to May 1, the Swedes celebrate Walpurgis Night. Celebrations begin on April 30 at 17:00 and take place throughout Stockholm.

Walking around the city with my husband on the 30th, in the center we came across a huge number of people in white caps. At first we thought it was in honor of the king’s birthday, but, as it turned out, everything was much simpler - it was a high school graduation. We have dresses and suits, and they have white caps. Graduation is also celebrated here for a whole month, so in Stockholm even in May you can easily stumble upon such a crowd of high school students.

Every year on December 10, the day of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Prize is awarded in Stockholm. The ceremony is held not in the Nobel Museum, as you might think, but in the Stockholm Concert Hall (Konserthuset), followed by a banquet in the gold and blue hall of the Stockholm City Hall.

Stockholm is a large city with many districts and quarters, but not all of them are tourist areas. I bring to your attention the five main ones that are most popular among travelers.

Old city

The main tourist area of ​​Stockholm is the Old Town or Gamla Stan. Here are the Royal Palace, the Nobel Museum, the Finnish and German churches, the narrowest street in Stockholm, the smallest monument in the world and the parliament building (Riksdag).

Accommodation in a hostel here will cost approximately 76 USD per night for two (Old Town Lodge). For the 3-star category and a room with amenities you will have to pay 110 USD (Castle House Inn). A room in a four-star hotel will cost about 152 USD for two (Collector's Lady Hamilton Hotel). If you want to save money, it is better to compare prices on the Internet in advance (for example), and the easiest way to book the room you like is at.

Norrmalm (Stockholm area)

Most of the hotels are concentrated in this area of ​​the city due to its favorable location. Gamla Stan is within walking distance from here, but you will no longer live in the very center of the tourist influx. The cheapest hostel room for two will cost about 84 USD (City Backpackers Hostel). The average price per night in a three-star hotel for two is 135 USD, in a four-star hotel - 186 USD and in a five-star hotel - 287 USD.

Södermalm

Södermalm is one of the districts of Stockholm located on the island of the same name. It is connected to Gamla Stan by the Slussen Bridge. This area is also convenient for tourists, like Norrmalm. The only thing is that in Södermalm there are very significant differences in the relief: you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to walk either uphill or downhill. Actually, like throughout Stockholm as a whole, with the exception of some places. It is better not to choose the area for people with poor health and pensioners. A bed in the cheapest hostel costs about 26 USD per person (Acco Hostel). As for hotel prices, they are no different from prices in Norrmalm.

Vasastan (Vasastaden)

Vasastan is the second largest district of Stockholm. It is located in the center and quite close to all the main attractions. The Astrid Lindgren apartment-museum is located here, so if you or your children are fans of Pippi Longstocking and Carlson, settling in this area is a great idea. Who knows, maybe you, inspired by the streets of Vasastan, will discover your creative potential.

Prices here are a little more affordable than in the center. For example, a double room in a two-star hotel will cost about 68 USD/night (Hotel Micro). A 3-star hotel room can be found for 113 USD (Rex Hotel), and a 4-star hotel room will cost 127 USD (Hotel Birger Jarl).

Djurgården

Djurgården literally translates from Swedish as “animal grounds”. Here is essentially the main entertainment and recreational area of ​​​​Stockholm: the Vasa Ship Museum, Skansen, Gröna-Lund, the Nordisk Museum, the ABBA Museum. However, for a traveler, settling in this area is not very convenient, since, as far as I know, there are only 2 hotels on the island where tourists can stay - Pop House Hotel (average price 186 USD / double room) and Scandic Hasselbacken (203 USD / room) . And from Djurgården it’s quite a distance to the main attractions of Stockholm and the metro.

Also for travelers there are the areas of Kungholmen, Östermalm and Sofo. Accommodation prices are approximately the same everywhere. It all depends on the season you choose for your trip.

In spring and summer, some Swedes rent out a room in their houses or apartments, or an entire apartment, but this may be quite far from the center. You can search for options and get an idea of ​​the prices. It works out well for a budget trip, but you have to spend a lot on transport. If you don’t have this expense item planned, it’s better not to consider the option “farther from the center.”

What are the prices for holidays?

When planning your trip, remember that this is an expensive country. The cost of food in the city center leaves an inexperienced tourist in a slight stupor. This also applies to prices for transport and entrance tickets to museums. Children under 12 years of age (barn) enter some museums free of charge, and others at a reduced price. Youth under 25 years of age (ungdom) are also entitled to preferential prices. Travelers over 25 and under 65 must pay full price.

The main attractions of Stockholm include the Vasa Museum, the Royal Palace, Skansen, the Town Hall and the Museum of Modern Art. Most of these places are within walking distance of each other. So you can safely go to the Old Town and slowly look around. Definitely worth a look at Gluben. Although the view from the glass capsule cannot be called fantastic, the sensations are interesting.

If you really want to find an observation deck with a beautiful view of the Old Town, then you have 2 options. The first one is located near the Slussen metro station. There is the famous restaurant “Gondolen” and there is an observation deck near it. And the embankment near the Zinkensdamm metro station (you rarely see tourists there, mostly Swedes walk in this area).

Top 5

It is very difficult to select a top 5, since there is really a lot to see in Stockholm. I would like to include here the Technical Museum, the ship “Vasa” and the smallest statue in the world, and “Kosmanova”... But for now I will limit myself to the really main 5 places that you need to see with your own eyes.

Beaches. Which ones are better

To be honest, I have never seen anyone swimming in Stockholm. However, there are still beaches there: for example, on the island of Långholmen.

If you don't like sand, then you should pay attention to the rocks on the island of Kungsholmen.

Stockholm is surrounded by greenery. But we can highlight the best parks.

• First of all, this is, of course, Kunstradgoden(Kungstradgarden). Especially in spring, when the cherry blossoms bloom here. The park is a piece of paradise in the very center of Stockholm. However, it is quite small and various festivals and fairs are often held here.
• Bergian Garden(Bergianska Tradgarden). Located directly next to the Natural History Museum. This is a great park for plant lovers. There is a free and paid part, both are worth a visit.
• Hagaparken(Hagaparken) A huge quiet park located in the Solna area. An ideal place for walks and picnics.

Tourist streets

Speaking about tourist streets, one cannot fail to mention the narrowest street in Stockholm or Morten Trotzig Lane. Almost every traveler who has ever visited this fabulous city has a photograph from this place. The width of the alley is only 90 cm, and you can touch the walls of neighboring houses with your hands without any effort.

Other famous streets:

• Drottningatan(Drottninggatan) can be called the main tourist street of Stockholm. If you were planning to go shopping, this is the place for you. Life is always bustling here and there are a lot of tourists walking around. It’s not particularly advertised, but it’s no less a fact - be careful with your things here.
• Biblioteksgatan(Biblioteksgatan) differs from the previous street in fewer tourists. Here you can also find many different shops. It is considered the most elegant pedestrian street in the city and, it seems to me, is somewhat similar to Moscow’s Arbat.

What to see in 1 day

Indeed, there was a time when I went to this beautiful city only for the weekend. This was my second trip to Stockholm and I wanted to see everything.

• 8:00 - Great time for a walk around the Old Town. It’s not very crowded yet, and you can calmly wander around, see the architecture and take a lot of photographs as a souvenir. Walk to the Royal Palace and look in the alley next to it for the smallest monument in the world. To see everything, 1.5–2 hours will be enough for you. Next, in order not to waste time, walk to Kungsträdgården and take the bus that goes to Djurgården. You need to stop right after the bridge and you will find yourself at the Vasa ship museum.
• 10:30 - start exploring the museum of one ship. It seems like it won't be long, but you could easily spend half a day here and not even notice it. Since we only have one day, I would allocate 2 hours to explore the museum. If you are visiting in spring or summer, be sure to visit Skansen, which is located very close to the Vasa Museum. If it’s autumn or winter, then I would recommend the Natural History Museum. It's somewhat similar to Darwin's, but very interactive.

• 13:00 -For example, consider a warm period of time. Walk to Skansen slowly, it will take you 15–20 minutes. Walking around Djurgården is a pleasure! As soon as you enter Skansen, you will smell fresh baked goods. Follow it, your nose will not deceive you, in extreme cases you will see a sign with a donut. Be sure to stop by there and try some of the buns! They are fantastically delicious. They bake them right in front of you, telling you about the work of the bakers. By the way, in every house in Skansen there are people who are ready to talk about the traditions and customs of the time period to which a particular building belongs. They speak fluent Swedish, English and German. In general, you can easily spend about 3 hours in Skansen itself. And there is also a place there, seemingly inside, but it is considered separate - “Skansen Aquarium”. So, it’s worth a look there too.
• 17:00 - Get back on the bus and travel for about 30 minutes to the Kungsträdgården stop. There you slowly walk to the metro through a small park in the city center, and the next attraction is the metro. Having seen it once, now on every trip to Stockholm I always go down there to see it again and again.

• 17:30 - From there you get to the Slussen station and go upstairs to the observation deck near the historical Katarina elevator. The views of the city are fantastic!

• 18:00 - Perhaps you can end such a busy day with a cup of real Swedish coffee. For example, at Mean Coffee on Vasagatan.

What to see in the area

There are two towns not far from Stockholm that are worth a visit.

Food. What to try

To be honest, in terms of food, Stockholm was not some kind of revelation for me. After all, IKEA taught the common Russian man that meat with jam is not so surprising.

A small life hack for those who do not have the opportunity to cook their own food and who do not accept fast food: in Stockholm, “business lunches” are as common as here, here they are called “day lunch” or Dagens lunch. In some restaurants between 11 and 14 o'clock you can eat quite inexpensively (by Swedish standards). Second, salad and coffee will cost about 11 USD.

I can only recommend what I have tried myself. I mostly bought groceries from the ICA store and cooked, but if hunger caught me by surprise, Kebab House in Wasagatan (a small eatery that offers kebabs and pizza) came to the rescue. Everything is quite tasty, and besides, you have the opportunity to get yourself a salad for free, which is publicly available. And there is also a tap there, i.e. Ordering additional drinks becomes optional. Take a glass and drink - in Stockholm the tap water is drinkable.

And also worthy of attention cafe in the Nobel Museum. We didn’t take the main courses, but it’s still worth trying the Nobel ice cream (even though it’s expensive)! So if you are planning to visit this museum, stop by and give it a try!

Budget

In Stockholm you can find the usual ones:

• McDonald's;
• "Burger King";
• Pizza Hut;
• All kinds of kebabs.

Everything is quite edible, I personally didn’t notice any special features, except maybe ketchup, which, like drinks, costs separately, and people themselves take as much as they want. And MAX has burgers for vegetarians. As for prices, at McDonald's, for example, a cheeseburger or hamburger will cost about 1.2 USD, and coffee 2.5 USD.

Mid-level

Various establishments, located en masse in the Old Town and on Drottingatan, can easily be classified as mid-level restaurants. Which is expensive for a simple tourist. As I wrote earlier - look for “Dagens lunch”!

Holidays

I love going to Stockholm for the holidays! Fortunately there are a lot of them and they come almost every month. I will try to just briefly tell you when what happens and what is worth seeing if you go at one time or another.

• Let's start with February - this month in Stockholm there is International furniture fair Stockholm Furniture Fair. This is the largest interior exhibition in Scandinavia!
• Then, April is eventful. At the end of the month, Swedes celebrate King's Birthday, Walpurgis night, and also cherry blossom, which can also be called a kind of holiday. If you love an event like Night at the Museum, don't miss its Swedish counterpart - Night of Culture (Kulturnatt), which falls approximately on the last Saturday of April. The queues are huge, but you can visit the museum of interest for free and watch a specially prepared entertainment program

• In May in Stockholm you can go to street dance festival, which takes place at several venues in the city at once.
• In June, Stockholm experiences a special influx of tourists, and there are various holidays and festivals this month - for every taste! Here and Midsummer Festival, And Early Music Festival, And Culinary festival and even Swedish Flag Day!

• If you've never seen gay pride parade, then in Stockholm it takes place annually in July. As my mother once said, looking at this procession: “What a genotype is being lost!”

• At the beginning of October the city hosts sweet chocolate festival! It is celebrated in the Northern Museum.

Safety. What to watch out for

Perhaps the only thing you should not do is leave your belongings unattended in places where tourists gather. As it is, Stockholm is a fairly safe and friendly city. Almost every subway exit has homeless people sitting with cups of change. It’s very unpleasant when you pass by and they start clinking these glasses and asking for alms, but you can’t call them dangerous.

You can also sometimes meet people with mental disorders. It was very creepy for me to run into a man in a museum who was walking around with his doll and loudly discussing something. However, the Swedes are calm about crazy people. Nobody touches them and they don't bother anyone.

Things to do

Stockholm is home to many different museums. There are places where both nature lovers and those who prefer urban landscapes can enjoy a walk.

Come to Stockholm for one of the festivals and immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere. Take the kids to Junibakken or visit the Tom Tits Experiment. Take the metro and see the different stations carved right into the rock. Enjoy the peace and tranquility by visiting one of the churches in the Old Town.

As for shopping, prices for clothes here are not much different from Moscow, but you can find very interesting things. The main concentration of large shopping centers and brand stores can be found on Drottningatan and Biblioteksgatan.

From my personal purchases: I bought an electric guitar for my husband as a gift. It didn’t turn out to be very expensive and I was pleasantly pleased with the quality; you won’t find anything like it here.

Since I do scrapbooking, on every visit I always pop into craft stores; they have a huge selection and quite reasonable prices. The same can be said about confectionery supplies.

Stockholm is teeming with various kinds of designer stores, but I gave in to temptation and bought a folding cutting board there, and upon arrival I discovered that it was 3 times cheaper in our online store.

For comic book lovers, I highly recommend checking out the Science Fiction Bokhandeln store, which is located right in Gamla Stan. Here you can find many books and magazines for fantasy lovers, as well as a huge selection of board games. In general, see for yourself. In most cases it turns out to be expensive, but truly exclusive.

Bars. Where to go

In Stockholm there is the world's first ice bar! Everything here (except drinks) is made from ice, which comes from Lapland. At any time of the year, a constant temperature of −5°C is maintained. It is located very close to the central station, but coming here is not a cheap pleasure.

Fans of unusual bars will also like it Bullerbyn village bar. The title is taken from Astrid Lindgren's book "Children from Bullerby". Please note that it is better to book tickets for this bar in advance, otherwise you will have to wait in line for quite a long time. Highly recommended Restaurang & Pub Anchor, located in the Vasastan region. It opens from 15:00 and every weekend you can enjoy live music (particularly rock music).

Clubs and nightlife

When you plan to walk somewhere at night, you always pay attention to the metro opening hours. So, in Stockholm the metro is open from 5:00 am to 1:00 am, and on Fridays and Saturdays it works until 4:00 am. Knowing this information, you can safely make plans.

So, one of the best clubs is undoubtedly the Kharma club, which is located near the Östermalmstorg metro station. Open, like most nightclubs in the city, from 20:00 to 3:00 (closed on Sunday). In Stockholm, the age limit for entering such establishments is not 18 years old, but 21 years old (in some clubs it is 23 years old).

If you prefer the company of bohemians, then at night head to the Södermalm area, in particular to Medborjaplatzen and Hörnstuhl squares. Here you will find both regular nightclubs and establishments for gay people.

Extreme Sports

Since Stockholm is an island city, the main offer is water sports. For example, here you can easily rent a kayak and enjoy the view of the city from the water. Or learn kitesurfing. Also one of the popular types of extreme entertainment is walking on the roofs. True, this pleasure is not cheap. If you are a fan of alpine skiing and snowboarding, then the closest resort to Stockholm is Branas in the province of Värmland, 440 km from the capital.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

As a rule, tourists en masse buy all kinds of moose (keychains, soft toys, magnets) and Vikings (also in all forms). I have never been a fan of trinket gifts, so, in my opinion, it is much better to give, for example, a deer cheese cutter or folding vases (my mother-in-law is delighted with them). Swedish design is known all over the world, so why not bring something interesting and useful as a souvenir?

Or a great option for those with a sweet tooth is chocolate. I love Marabou so I always buy it for my home and friends.

How to get around the city

Stockholm has a very developed public transport system. It is convenient for tourists to use the usual metro, buses and trams. There is also water transport, here you need to be careful. Tourist boats differ little from public ones in appearance, but the price and routes are completely different. Most Swedes prefer to get around the city by bicycle rather than by car. At the tourist center you can get detailed information on where to rent a two-wheeled friend. You can also find out about places to rent Segways and cars.

SL Card

In essence, SL is something like the Moscow Troika. By purchasing a card and topping up this card, you can travel in the metro, buses and trams, as well as use water transport. You can purchase it immediately at the airport. Look for the Pressbyran sign and feel free to ask for your travel card there. The current fare is as follows: 13 USD (115 SEK) for a 24-hour pass, 26 USD (230 SEK) for 72 hours, 34 USD (300 SEK) for a week and 89 USD (790 SEK) for a month. The countdown starts from the moment of the first pass. The card itself costs 3 USD (20 SEK). But keep in mind that from January 2017, transport prices are planned to increase. But the “zones” will be abolished, and you will no longer have to calculate how many zones you cross during your trip.

Taxi. What features exist

Taxis in Stockholm are mainly the privilege of rich people. The cost of services depends on the day of the week, time of day and age of the passenger. So, for example, from Arlanda airport to the city center during the day you can get for 5667 USD; at night, on weekends and on holidays, this amount can safely be increased by 20–30%

On the street you can easily notice black cars with the letter “T” or the inscription “Taxi”. They use a taxi meter, and the salons almost always have terminals for cashless fares (by the way, in some taxis, in addition to Swedish krona, American dollars, euros and pounds sterling are accepted). However, I have never seen people hitch a ride in Stockholm.

To order a taxi, you should contact Taxi Stockhom (order by calling +4 681 500 00 or via the website) and Taxi 020 (to order, call +4 688 504 00 or go to the website). Or you can ask to order a taxi for you at the reception desk at a hotel, restaurant or airport.

Trams

Using the tram in the city is really convenient. Perhaps the most popular route is No. 7. It allows you to quickly travel from Sergels torg to Skansen.

There are about five tram lines in Stockholm, and all of them are in demand, especially among the Swedes themselves.

Metro

The metro in Stockholm is very developed. Most of the stations are located above the ground, and those below are carved directly into the rocks. No station is like the other, each has something interesting. So travelers should definitely go down there at least once. For those who intend to actively use public transport, the most profitable way to travel is to purchase an SL card. It does not apply to the number of trips, but to the time. For example, you can buy a card for a day and it will be valid for exactly 24 hours from the moment you use it for the first time. If you take a regular travel pass, you can also travel on the same trip for a certain period of time. The cost of any pass, again, depends on age.

By the way, an interesting feature is that it’s rare to find the usual ticket offices at any station. As a rule, the purchase and replenishment of travel cards takes place in small Pressbyran shops, where they sell all sorts of small things, such as soda and chocolates. Or through special terminals.

The metro operates from 5 am to 1 am (until 4 am on weekends), and it is quite safe to travel, but at night you can run into drunken groups.

Just like in Moscow, in the Stockholm metro you can meet beggars, some just begging, others playing the guitar and singing. An important point is the elevator. If you are traveling with children or disabled people, Stockholm transport offers the most comfortable conditions for movement.

Buses

Buses can mainly be found on the outskirts of the city. An interesting point is that they run on environmentally friendly fuel, but to be honest, this didn’t catch my eye personally. What really amazed me were the drivers. Neat, in perfect shape and incredibly friendly. I’ve never met anyone like that in Moscow, but in Stockholm everything is just right!

The same SL card is valid on buses, but as for buying a pass from the driver, unfortunately, it won’t work that way. So think about your tickets in advance.

Transport rental

I have never rented a vehicle in Stockholm. I know for sure that it is possible. You can even come directly to the tourist center with this question, but I preferred public transport, a bicycle and a scooter. Necessary conditions for renting a car, as elsewhere: passport, international driving license, credit card with documents confirming that you are its owner and age, not younger than 18 (for some cars, not younger than 24), and driving experience of at least 1 –3 years. Rental cost is about 100 USD/day. You can compare prices, for example.

An important point: there are some bridges in Stockholm that require additional travel fees. Parking in the city is also paid. The cost of gasoline is approximately 1.6–1.7 USD/liter and 1.6 USD for diesel fuel. Another type of transport that can be rented is a Segway. In Stockholm it is very common to see individuals or groups on Segways. Rental cost is about 40 USD/hour, rental works in the Old Town area.

It is worth remembering that honking is prohibited and you can get a hefty fine. You are only allowed to honk in case of serious danger. There are a number of signs that are unusual for Russian people. For example, a white letter “M” on a blue background, meaning the need to give way to cars that are moving towards you.

Fines are paid exclusively through the bank; do not try to pay on the spot - the police may decide that you are trying to give a bribe.

Stockholm - holidays with children

Swedes don't just love, they adore children! In Stockholm, every smallest detail speaks of this very clearly. In most Moscow museums, children, alas, are bored. And I don’t even want to take them somewhere again. Here everything is different, here you can touch the exhibits... I am still impressed by what they came up with to wean children off pacifiers! This is genius! If there is a problem with weaning, I’ll give you a tip. There is a place in Skansen where cats live. You can come there and lower the pacifier along with the baby into a special hole. Moreover, this is not done by force, in any case, but with the message that you are already big, and the cats want to play. Then the lever turns. The pacifier travels spectacularly through transparent tubes and goes straight to the cats. And the child is happy, and the cats have a new toy.
