Of course, it cannot be compared with Niagara, but in winter you can enjoy the picturesque water streams falling from top to bottom. In order to see waterfalls in Cyprus, you need to get to the resort town of Platres and look for information signs with directions to water attractions.

We basically travel around Cyprus by bus, cover long distances on foot, and spend the night in tents. This was what was decided initially. 1. Millomeris Waterfall in Cyprus: description of how to get there

Millomeris Waterfall

Millomeris Waterfall a very picturesque natural attraction in Cyprus. Firstly, it is quite high and quite deep. Secondly, the flow of water enters a narrow gorge, which further enhances the impression.

If you find yourself in the area of the village of Platres, then be sure to visit the highest, fifteen-meter waterfall in Cyprus - Myllomeris (Myllomeris waterfall). It is located at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level. Until some time, access to the waterfall was impossible for tourists. But now you can get there by car almost to the water, and at the end you can walk a short section. The path from the sign “Nature Trail Myllomeris Waterfalls” will be about two kilometers.

It is believed that the name of the waterfall was derived from the word millos, which means “wet” in the Cypriot dialect, and the word meros, which means “place”. The flow of water from the Krios River made the surrounding area cool and damp. Probably for this reason the waterfall was named after Millomeris.

Streams of water cascade down from a height of 15 meters, forming a small lake below. In winter, the lake level rises when a large amount of water enters the reservoir.

There is also a walking trail about one kilometer long to the Millomeris waterfall, which starts from the Faneromeni Church, which is also in Platres. The descent will take about 30 - 40 minutes. The departure point is easy to find by following the sign. The forest trail is picturesque and goes downhill. Here and there there are benches where you can sit and “take a breath” in the shade of the trees. In some places there are wooden stairs. The place near the waterfall is picturesque and secluded: the water is rustling, the birds are singing.

By the way, a trip to Milomeris Waterfall can be organized as part of an individual excursion, during which you will see the most beautiful natural corners of Cyprus. Read more about this trip -

2. Caledonia Falls: how to find

Pointer to the waterfall

Caledonia Falls located in Cyprus, near the mountain village of Pano Platres. He is not too tall, but quite handsome. All along the way to Caledonia Falls there are large and small boulders, stones, snags and intertwined tree roots. Just look, some kind of goblin will appear from behind the bushes!

According to one version, Caledonia Falls (Kaledonia waterfall) got its name from the ancient Roman name for Scotland - Caledonia. Allegedly, one Scot, having visited here, saw similarities with his native land. According to another, the name comes from the Latin chelidon urbica What does city swallow mean?

How to find a waterfall. You can get to the Caledonia Falls in Cyprus via a walking route. It starts from the trout farm tavern sign Psilo Dendro, on which it is written that the walk to the goal is one kilometer. You need to walk for about forty minutes along a forest path along the Krio Potamos River, whose name translates as “cold river”. The path there is winding but picturesque. In some places you need to ford the river or use wooden bridges. And so... a stream of water falls into view, falling from a thirteen-meter height. But, unfortunately, such a picture of falling water can only be observed in winter, after heavy rains. Caledonia Falls is located at an altitude of 1330 meters above sea level.

3. Waterfalls: Hantara, Mesa Potamos, in Avdima, at the baths of Adonis

But the traveler can add a few more picturesque places in Cyprus.

Hantara Waterfall (Hantara waterfalls) can be seen on the Diplos Potamos river, one and a half kilometers from the village of Foini. This place is located next to Platres. You can get there either on foot or by car. The dirt road leading to the waterfall is short and easy. Tourists who go to Hantara Falls on foot will be rewarded with excellent scenic views along the way, and will also be able to admire the bas-relief of Jesus Christ on the rock.

The waterfall arose among a wild, untouched forest in which plane trees, pine trees and other trees grow. Once there, a picturesque view opens up to your eyes. Water falls rapidly from a height of 8 meters in several streams, forming a small lake below. There is a path nearby, along which you can climb higher and see the second and third tiers of the water stream.

Mesa Potamos. The Mesa Potamos waterfall is located along the bed of the Arkolachania River (Mesa Potamos), northwest of Saitas, near the monastery of Timios Prodromos at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The height of the waterfall is about 7 meters.

Waterfall in Avdima located west of the city of Limassol, in an area of unique natural beauty. The stream of water rushing down is surrounded by rocky mountain slopes and wild bushes. The sound of water falling from a height and the unusual appearance of the depression create a picture of the fabulousness of what is happening.

Paradisyon Waterfall located in the abandoned village of Trosen. The name of this waterfall means "paradise". Its uniqueness is that streams of water flow literally from underground, seeping through the cracks of limestone rocks and dense greenery.

Waterfall at the Baths of Adonis located in the Kili region.

5. Reviews of tourists who visited the waterfalls of Cyprus

Natalya (March 2018). “I would like to leave my review of how we went traveling through the Troodos Mountains. The guide picked us up (there were five of us) at the hotel at 10:00. The route was agreed upon in advance and all the details of the trip were discussed with the guide. The road was absolutely not stressful. While we were driving, we looked at new places, cozy corners of this wonderful island, and stunning landscapes. The guide said that you can stop anywhere along the way, which we did. On the excursion we met interesting people and tried Cypriot cuisine. We had to climb to the waterfall, but it's worth it! A wonderful view, the cleanest air with the smell of pine needles, crystal streams of water falling down..."

Elena (June 2018). “Everything went great! A good car, which the guide carefully drove along winding mountain roads. The route was built sequentially, visiting the most interesting places. Along the way we heard many interesting stories about life in Cyprus...”

6. Location of Cyprus waterfalls on an interactive map and GPS coordinates

Caledonia Falls: 34° 54" 10"N 32° 52" 14"E.

Millomeris Falls: 34° 53" 02"N 32° 51" 55"E.

Hantara Falls: 34° 54" 16"N 32° 50" 26"E.

Millomeris Falls is hidden in the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus and is considered the highest waterfall on the island - its height is 15 meters. It is clear that people come to Cyprus for the sea and beaches, but if you are already tired of all this, then it is worth visiting the Millomeris Waterfall. Recommended for lovers of nature, mountains and hiking!

From Limassol it is easy. Since we had not yet acquired a car, it was decided to go by bus. From Limassol on weekends there is only one bus to Troodos to the stop we need - bus 64.

Map of bus routes in Cyprus:

Bus to Troodos(we need the town of Troodos, and not just the mountains of the same name) departs at 9:30 from the Old Hospital in Limassol. Near the stop there is a central police station and a post office, so it’s difficult to get lost.

To get to the Millomeris waterfall, you need to go to the stop at village of Pano Platres (Πάνω Πλάτρες), where the trail to the waterfall begins. The road from Limassol to Pano Platres takes about an hour; it is better to notify the driver in advance that you want to get off here and not at the end. Then the bus travels for another 20 minutes to the final stop, which is called Troodos (we don’t need to come here).

We get off the bus in Pano Platres (Πάνω Πλάτρες) - everything is very nice, clean and tidy, signs to the trail are visible:

We turn onto the path to the waterfalls:

Immediately a stunning view of the mountains opens up. Here you can see that someone took a fancy to the peaks of Troodos and built villas there :)

We walk along the path down, going down to the river Krios Potamos (Κριος Ποταμος). Yes, yes, there are rivers in Cyprus - though not too big, as you will see below :)
The name of the river is simple and translates as “cold river”.

The water in the river is really crystal clear and cold.

The path leading to the Millomeris waterfall is quite clear, the boundaries are recognizable. The forest is not very dense, there is moss and other vegetation everywhere:

You can hear the singing of birds, the smell of pine trees... The water is cold, transparent:

Having walked along the river bed along the bottom, you will need to climb up again to the hill, from where you can see the Troodos:

During the time we spent in Cyprus, we terribly missed the normal forest and trees. In Cyprus, the vegetation is not too high - only in the mountains can you find the familiar forest and pine trees.

We cross this hill and go down to the final part of the route. The path leads us down into the thickets of trees, to where the indistinct roar of the Millomeris waterfall can already be heard.

The route to the Millomeris waterfall is not difficult - along the way you will meet older tourists and families with children. Every 300 meters there are benches where you can rest and take a breath, and there are trash cans.

And again villas :)

Let's go down to the very Millomeris waterfall. Getting close!

Seeing the waterfall, Kolya immediately jumped over the pebbles towards it.

The water in the waterfall is getting cold! You can jump on the pebbles all the way to the waterfall or walk barefoot through the water.

Sloths can drive directly to Millomeris Falls by car, park and walk 200 meters to the falls. Many people do this. But it is much more pleasant and useful to combine a visit to the waterfall with a walk through the pine forest, especially since this does not require any special physical form.
Flora in Troodos:

The entire route to the Millomeris waterfall took us a couple of hours: a leisurely walk along the stream, a photo shoot at the waterfall, a leisurely climb back.
If you come home by bus, you don’t have to rush: the only return bus from Platres to Limassol leaves at 15:45.
We climbed to the village of Platres when it was about one o'clock in the afternoon. So we walked around Platres a little. Church of Faneromenis:

If you go uphill a little from the church, on the right there will be a descent to the Millomeris waterfall, and even higher - the center of Platres. On the right in the photo is the police station.

Platres is a small and cozy village, quite touristy: it is not a traditional mountain village, it has everything for a tourist - several hotels, a tourism office, free toilets, restaurants, taverns. We went to one of them for lunch:

Tavern interior:

There is a bus stop near the police station in Pano Platres, from which the bus leaves for Limassol. From Troodos, bus 64 starts at 15:30.

Tired and happy, we waited for the bus and returned to . In the first half of the day we walked about 14 km, the lion’s share of which was a walk around Troodos :)

There are many interesting places hidden in the Troodos Mountains: monasteries and waterfalls, abandoned hotels and tiny authentic villages where residents weave the finest lace or make silverware:

And the route to another waterfall in Cyprus:

Description:

The waterfall is located on two tiers, at the bottom there is a swimming lake with emerald-colored water. There is a bungee and rope swing for beautiful photos. Extreme visitors jump into the reservoir from tree branches or from the upper tier of the waterfall, although the “no jumping” and “no diving” signs delicately hint that this is not worth doing.

In general, the Bath of Adonis is not only a waterfall. This is a whole park with a museum house, a picnic area on the roof, sun loungers and a small bar.

From afar, guests are greeted by a ten-meter statue; Zeus sits at the entrance - smaller, but all golden. Inside there are a number of statues with varying degrees of sexual inclination, some of which look too much.

Weddings and beauty treatments are also held here. In addition, this waterfall has its own website.

Mesa Potamos

What: The smallest waterfall, the height of the cascade is 7 meters.

Where: On the Mesa Potamos River, 200 meters from St. John Monastery.

Description: Mesa Potamos is so small that not everyone recognizes it as a waterfall. Perhaps that is why it did not even receive a separate name and bears the name of the river on which it is located.

The area around the waterfall is very picturesque. There is a beautiful place here, tables are placed right on the bank of the stream. You can walk along the river or walk to the monastery - at certain hours everyone is allowed into the territory and into the temple.

Coordinates: 34.892815,32.90738

Green Valley

What: A waterfall with a landscaped area, entrance fee – 5 euros.

Where: 27 km. from Limassol, in the vicinity of the village of Trimiklini.

Description: The half-kilometer descent to the waterfall is equipped with wooden bridges, railings and, in some places, steps; benches and trash cans are carefully placed everywhere, and signs with the names of local plants are placed. Chickens, ducks and peacocks walk nearby. Below you can swim in a small shallow lake.

Millomeris Falls is formed by the coldest river in Cyprus - Krios Potamos, which is translated from Greek as “Cold River”. The crystal clear water of this river cascades down from a 15-meter height, forming the highest waterfall on the island. Previously, the road to the waterfall was difficult, which negatively affected its popularity for many years. However, recently the approach to the waterfall was cleared, massive stones that were in the way of tourists were removed from the paths, and the river bed can now be crossed via a bridge.

There are two versions of the origin of the name Millomeris: according to the first, the name of the waterfall comes from a Greek phrase meaning “wet place”; according to the second, the waterfall is named after a mill that was once located in its vicinity.

Pines, cypresses, ivy, immortelle, the Cypriot variety of aster and other beautiful plants grow in this area. Various birds flutter from branch to branch, such as dippers, tits, jays, blackbirds and tufted crows. Bright lizards bask on the rocks in the rays of the sun; if you are lucky, you will see a chameleon, a squirrel, a hare, or even admire the smooth flight of a royal eagle.

Cyprus, of course, cannot boast of such huge waterfalls as Niagara or Iguazu, but on the island there are, although not large, very picturesque places.

There are quite a lot of waterfalls in the Troodos mountain range, among them: Caledonia, Hantara, Millomeris, Mesapotamos, Adonis and Green Valley waterfalls and others.

CALEDONIA

This is one of the most picturesque waterfalls, which is part of the Troodos National Park, protected by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 1330 meters above sea level on the Krios Potamos River. Its flows fall from a height of 13 meters. It received its name at the end of the 19th century. The waterfall reminded one of the Scots of his native Caledonia from childhood. History has not preserved the name of the traveler, but the name has remained unchanged since then. Tens of thousands of people visit Caledonia Falls every year. Once at the foot of the waterfall, you can have a small picnic.

MILLOMERIS

Millomeris Waterfall, like Caledonia, is located on the coldest river in Cyprus - Krios Potamos, near the village of Pano Platres. The height of the waterfall reaches 15 meters, so it is considered the highest on the island. The water in the waterfall is crystal clear, but very cold! True, this does not at all prevent many tourists from swimming here.
Previously, the waterfall was little known. After all, the road to it was difficult, steep and long. But a couple of years ago, the area near the waterfall was improved: stones were removed from the path and a wooden bridge was built, which made it much easier for travelers to cross the river bed. Nowadays it is possible to drive close to the waterfall by car, although this loses all the charm of walking along mountain paths.

HANTARA

Hantara Waterfall is located on the Diplos Potamos River, at an altitude of 1035 meters above sea level. The height of the waterfall itself reaches 8 meters. The waterfall got its name from the Greek word “andara”, meaning “the sound of water”. The area around the waterfall has been landscaped, there are information boards, a bridge has been made, a ford has been concreted and steps have been laid along the waterfall. It is best to combine a visit to the waterfall with a visit to the village of Fini, which is famous for its pottery.

MESA POTAMOS

This is the smallest waterfall. It is located on the Mesa Potamos River, northwest of the village of Saitas, at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The height of the waterfall itself reaches 7 meters. The water hits one platform of solid rock first and then slides down onto the second platform. That's why this waterfall is called double. You can combine a visit to the waterfall with a picnic arranged in a specially designated place with the same name Mesa Potamos. Having covered 200 meters along the path leading down, you can find yourself at the waterfall.

I recommend that guests of Cyprus visit at least one of the mountain waterfalls, so that when sharing their impressions of a trip to the island of Aphrodite, they can tell that in addition to the sea, beaches and ancient monuments, Cyprus also has natural beauty.
