The lake is located in the middle part of the Bashkir Trans-Urals between the peaks Kutukai (664 m), Karanyalyk (620 m) and the spurs of the Yamankaya ridge, 28 km north-east of the village of Askarovo, the regional center of the Abzelilovsky district of Bashkortostan.

And where jasper was found, the ancients experienced a stir. By the end of the Mesolithic, there were fewer raw materials and the cutting plates, respectively, became small, and bronze was still far away.

The first names given by the locals to the lake - Mauzza - "bottomless, insatiable" or Ajahaly, which means "the lake in which the monster lives." This name was associated with a legend that originated among the people, and is chilling to this day. Legends that have come down to us from time immemorial tell that in immemorial antiquity the lake was surrounded by an impenetrable thicket of forests, and a terrible monster that regularly disturbed the water in a huge reservoir ruled in it. The animals were afraid to go to the watering hole on the shores of the lake - his master was terrible in anger. Even the birds flying over the lake were drawn into the womb by the monster.

Another name of the lake known since the 16th century, Bashkir, is Yakty-kul, from the Bashkir “Yakta” - “light”. Thus, translated from Bashkir, it is "Bright Lake". Locals associate this name with the melting of snow and ice. When the ice moves away from the coast, such a haze arises near the coast. Indeed, the lake is very transparent, visibility through the water is 10-12 meters. Fresh water. And the eponymous sanatorium on the shore, built in Soviet times, specializes in mud therapy.

It is interesting that the Bashkirs used to call it differently - Mauzdy-kul in translation, as it were, Lake-mouth. And if the fisherman swam in the middle and then did not return, then it means that he was swallowed by some bull that no one saw.

The name "Bannoe" has been known in written sources since the beginning of the 18th century, and it was under this name that the lake became known and popular among vacationers. However, the root name has not disappeared either - on the southwestern coast there is a village called Yakty-Kul, and in all media and reference books in the Bashkir language, the lake appears under its "true" name.

Back in Soviet times, the Bannoye Lake became famous for the all-Union resort "Yakty-Kul", as well as a sanatorium, a rest house, numerous smaller departmental rest houses, pioneer camps were built on its picturesque shores. But the banks of Bannoye began to be built up with buildings of health resorts only in the late 1950s. Previously, the place was ... an industrial area.

It all started with the fact that with the establishment of Soviet power, industrial logging began on the slopes of the numerous surrounding mountain peaks. Logging plots were massively built both in the immediate vicinity of the village of Kusimovo, and at a fairly decent distance, even beyond the Kryktytau ridge, that is, beyond the pass. In addition, there is still a village on the Bannoye Lake with the unusual name Geological Prospecting. The village owes its name to a prospecting party, which carried out mining operations in the area of Lake Bannoye in the thirties of the last century for the presence of minerals.

The result was not long in coming: manganese ore was found in the pits! But the joy of the geologists was not long - the field turned out to be poor enough to conduct industrial development. And the extraction of manganese at Banny was recognized as unprofitable.

In 1959, a railway station appeared in the Geologorazvedka village. A branch from the railway line Magnitogorsk - Beloretsk was built up to Bannoye Lake.

The first holiday home on Lake Bannoe consisted of several dormitories and a dining room. It was possible to get from Magnitogorsk to this "Rest House" by a truck with benches along the sides, less often by a conventionally comfortable bus. Features of the fish fauna: the most abundant species in the lake are roach and perch. Bream and pike are slightly less densely distributed, whitefish and sterlet are found at great depths, tench is found in places with a muddy bottom and developed aquatic vegetation. Other fish are quite rare.

Fishing is not allowed here

According to clause 30.1.1 of the Fishing Rules for the Volga-Caspian fishery basin, fishing on Lake Bannoye is completely prohibited at any time of the year, including from the shore. This ban has been in effect since 2017.

Recreation centers

In the vicinity of Lake Bannoye there are several recreation centers and sanatoriums, as well as a ski resort:

Village-resort "Rodina"- located on the northeastern coast, on the territory of the settlement of Kusimovsky Rudnik.
Sanatorium "Yakty-Kul"- located on the southwestern coast, on the outskirts of the village of Yakty-Kul.

Rest house "Berezki"- on the western shore of the lake.
Children's health center "Uralskie Zori"- on the western shore of the lake.
Ski center "Metallurg - Magnitogorsk"- located on a mountain slope - one kilometer from the western shore of the lake.
Sanatorium "Yubileiny"- located on the northwestern coast, on the outskirts of the village of Zelenaya Polyana.

Eastern coast (from Ufa)

After the village at the junction, you need to take the right exit - towards Beloretsk, then continue driving until this city. Next to the restaurant complex "Stary Ochag" turn right - to Tashbulatovo, which should be passed, then - through the village of Geologorazvedka to the Kusimovsky mine, in which from the street. The embankment must turn to st. Victory and continue driving until the exit from the village. Soon the lake will appear to the right of the road.

East coast (from Chelyabinsk)

Distance from Chelyabinsk: 319 km.

How to get to: from Chelyabinsk you should go towards Ufa. Near Malkovo turn left to Uyskoye. Further - continue to move to this settlement and go around it along the bypass on the left, turning to Magnitogorsk, then you should move to this city (past Verkhneuralsk). Before Magnitogorsk, at the junction, turn to Beloretsk and then continue in this direction until the sign for Tashbulatovo / Yakty-Kul, where you should turn (to the left). Further - as in the previous version.

East Coast (from Yekaterinburg)

Coordinates: 53 ° 35'39 ″ s. sh., 58 ° 38'42 ″ in. etc.
Distance from Orenburg: 443 km.
Drop option: any car.
How to get to: from Orenburg you should go in the direction of Orsk, after Kamennoozyorny turn to Chebenki / Saraktash. At Saraktash turn left, then move to the border with Bashkiria. After a while, there will be a small village with a cafe "Mayak" - after it you should turn right and continue towards the city of Sibay. Before the village of Baimak, turn left - towards Temyasovo (third exit at the roundabout), on the outskirts of the village - turn left again and move towards this village. Before Temyasovo turn right to Sermenevo. Then, in the village of Tirmen, turn right to Askarovo, after which continue driving past Dautovo, Kuzhanovo and Abzelilovo to Tashtimerovo, where turn left and then follow the signs to Yakty-Kul, then you should pass this village, the lake will appear to the left of the road.
