With their help, the government crushed the Li rebels in the 16th–17th centuries, after which the Miao remained on the island of Hainan.

The Miao were considered brave warriors, and the legend of their origin says that they were descended from a dog and a princess. The princess's father promised her hand to the one who defeats the leader of the enemies. The winner was the yard dog, who brought the leader's head to the princess's father. In the 20th century, Hainan was a refuge for the communists (20-30s), and they became partisans with the communists and fought Japanese troops during the Second World War.

Although summer lasts all year round on the island, due to the influence of the monsoons, the weather is divided into two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.
The dry season lasts from two months to six. Dry weather lasts the longest on the northwestern coast, less on the southeastern coast. Typically this season lasts from December to March. Precipitation during this period is significantly less than in other months - only about 60 mm, versus 250 mm during the rainy season. The air temperature in the winter months is anything but wintery. In January, the thermometer confidently stays at +20°C and by March-April it reaches +29.9°C. The water temperature in the sea is also moderately warm +20°C in early January and already +25°C in April. The warmest sea is in June +29.9°C.
The rainy season begins in August and lasts until October, sometimes even the warmest month - June. Due to the collision of northern and southern air masses, typhoons and trade wind fronts are possible during this period. The rainy season lasts the longest in the southeast of Hainan, and is strongest in the mountainous regions of the central part. From May 1, 2018, China offered visa-free entry to Hainan. Therefore, it has become easier for tourists to get to this tropical island, not only to soak up the sun by the sea, but also to see all the sights of Hainan.
