1. We do not use the main entrance. Tourists usually enter the Louvre through the famous glass pyramid. The main entrance leads to an underground hall where ticket offices and metal detector frames are located, through which visitors enter the museum halls. This is where the largest queues usually form. However, not all tourists know that there is another way to get to the Louvre - through the Le Carrousel shopping center. You can enter it from the street or directly from the Louvre-Rivoli metro station.

2. Buy a ticket in advance. For those who purchased an entrance ticket to the museum online, there is a separate queue that moves much faster. In addition, on the Louvre website you can immediately order an audio guide in Russian, which will allow you to save on the excursion. The entrance for ticketed visitors is located opposite the glass pyramid in the passage leading to the famous Palais Royal.

3. Let's go to the Louvre in the morning. In the morning hours immediately after the museum opens, there are usually no queues, and you can easily enter even through the main entrance. Free entry to the Louvre

Since January 2019, the museum is open free to all visitors on the first Saturday of every month, from 18:00 to 21:45.

Entrances other than the pyramid

The pyramid is not the only entrance to the museum. This is the most famous and memorable passage for the tourist - but he is not alone. Besides the pyramid, you can enter the Louvre through the Carrousel du Louvre, which is on the same level as the museum's ticket office.

You can get to the Carrousel directly from the Palais-Royal/Musée du Louvre station (lines 1 and 7). Follow the signs to and you will be taken to the shopping center. It houses the Inverted Pyramid, an Apple Store, numerous boutiques, restaurants, Starbucks and McDonald's. Opposite the Inverted Pyramid is the entrance to the Louvre for groups and individual tourists. There is no queue here, or it is much shorter than at the top. It is not necessary to buy tickets in advance. As when entering through the Pyramid, you find yourself in the same underground hall with ticket offices.

The other entrance to the Carrousel is opposite the Palais Royal station. Cross the road, but do not enter the arch (it leads into the courtyard to the Pyramid), but go through the glass doors. Here you are in the Carousel! Next, follow the signs to approach the Inverted Pyramid.

You can go down to the Carousel via the passage immediately from. On the site in front of the Carousel Arch (to the right and left of the Arch) you will see two inconspicuous underground entrances: they lead directly to the Inverted Pyramid in the shopping center.

Visit to the Louvre

So, every first Sunday of the month (from October to March), as well as on July 14 (Bastille Day), the museum administration organizes an “Open Museum Day”; any tourist can enter here for free. Previously, from April to September (on the first Sundays) you could also go for free, but then, due to the large flow of tourists, visiting was paid at this time.

On other days, you need to pay 9 euros to visit the Louvre and additionally the same amount to view the Mona Lisa and the famous Venus de Milo. And if you visit the Louvre as part of an organized excursion group with a Russian-speaking guide, it will be even more expensive. The entrance ticket is valid all day.

Just one important point: if you decide to visit the Louvre for free, come as early as possible, there are especially many visitors on such days. The queues reach several hours. You can still take a chance and come closer to closing, around 15-16, in the evening the queues clear up, however, there is little time left for inspection (2-3 hours).
