How to get from Frankfurt airport to the city center. Scheme of Frankfurt airport - photo, transit, terminals Scheme of the airport in Frankfurt in Russian

Frankfurt Airport(Frankfurt am Main IATA/ICAO: FRA/EDDF) is Germany's largest air gateway and the largest base of the German airline Lufthansa. In 2011, the airport's passenger traffic amounted to 56.4 million people.

Flights Kyiv-Frankfurt are operated by UIA and Lufthansa airlines. You can buy air tickets for cash in Kyiv, Donetsk, Lvov, Odessa or another regional center of Ukraine by pre-booking them on . You can also buy tickets Kyiv-Frankfurt by paying by card or bank transfer.

Frankfurt am Main Airport has two terminals, which are divided into letter zones. In terminal 1 there are zones 1A/Z, 1B, 1C, in terminal 2 there are zones 2D, 2E. The terminals are so large that airport employees use electric golf carts or bicycles to get around.

Passengers can easily navigate the airport thanks to numerous signs.

Transfer (trip) between terminals

A special Sky Line train runs between the sterile and public areas of the Frankfurt Airport terminals every 2-3 minutes. Travel there is free. Passengers and airport visitors who have not passed control have access to one carriage; transit passengers travel in the second carriage.

There is also a free shuttle bus running between the terminals in the public area of the airport every 10 minutes.

The Frankfurt Airport plan below shows the main terminal facilities: check-in, baggage claim, shuttle between terminals and train station. Click on the picture to enlarge.

The easiest and most convenient way to get from Frankfurt airport to the city center to the main train station Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof - take the city train. Similarly, we advise getting from the center of Frankfurt to the airport.

Electric trains routes S8 and S9 run between the airport and different parts of the city approximately every 15 minutes. Travel time is 10 minutes.

The cost of travel on a city train on the route Frankfurt Airport - Frankfurt city is 4.1 euros. Please note that this will help you save on travel. It is a pass for all types of transport within the city, and is also valid in the tariff zone 5090 Airport.

Where to eat at the airport

Various cafes, shops and restaurants are located throughout the terminals of Frankfurt Airport. In Terminal 2, in the public area there is a large food court called Food Plaza.

There is an open observation deck in Terminal 2 of Frankfurt Airport. To get there, you need to go up the escalator to the Food Plaza and follow the signs to the left.

Entrance to the observation deck is paid. Students are given a discount. Before entering the observation deck, all visitors go through a metal detector and mandatory hand luggage control.

The Frankfurt Card is a travel pass for all types of transport in the city of Frankfurt, including in the tariff zone 5090 Airport. It also allows you to get discounts on excursions, when visiting museums, the observation deck at Frankfurt Airport, etc.

The cost of a Frankfurt card for one day is 9.2 euros per person and 19 euros for a group of up to five people, for two days - 13.5 euros for one person and 28 euros for a group of up to five people.

You can buy a Frankfurt card upon arrival at Frankfurt Airport at the Hotels & Tours office in Terminal 1, Arrivals Hall, Zone B.

When I first came here, I immediately realized that the story about the airport deserved a separate detailed blog post. That time I was flying from Prague to Moscow with a transfer in Frankfurt (flying Lufthansa) so I had enough time to walk around almost the entire airport, take pictures of all the most important and useful things, and even exchange a few words with the staff. So, I will try to present as briefly and succinctly as possible everything that is important to know during transit.

Tickets to Frankfurt am Main

Anyone who has ever asked the question “how to find cheap air tickets?” most likely already knows about the coexistence of such aggregators as Aviasales, Skyscanner, etc. Today this is the best option for searching and buying tickets on the Internet, which I have already tested repeatedly. For example, Aviasales has such a useful thing as a price comparison table by month, where you can see when it is cheaper to fly and when it is more expensive. You click on a month and the search engine already shows prices for specific dates. The purchase itself takes place directly on the seller’s website (can be either an airline or an agency). It is very convenient, and most importantly, safe.

Frankfurt am Main International Airport is one of the largest air hubs in Europe in general and Germany in particular. Huge airport! Or it would be even more correct to call it a city. As a testament to its size, Frankfurt Airport welcomes flights from more than 100 airlines from more than 300 cities around the world. I can say that despite its size, it has excellent navigation and, as a result, simple and convenient transit. This is probably why the quality of his service has been awarded several international and national awards!

There are smoking areas on the street near the airport terminals, in the cleared area (after security control, but before passport control) and directly in the airport transit area. At the same time, I noticed an interesting pattern - the closer to the gate, the more comfortable the smoking areas.

Where can I apply for Tax Free?

The issue of VAT refund (aka Tax Free) is one of the most pressing for many of our fellow citizens, so I will analyze it here in as much detail as possible.

General information about Tax Free

Let's start with the fact that all goods sold in Europe are subject to value added tax. The tax amount depends on the country and type of product. As a non-resident of Germany or any other EU country, you have the opportunity to receive a refund of this tax when leaving the EU.

To receive a refund in cash at the airport, you must present the goods themselves, your passport, receipts and completed Tax Free forms (issued in the store when purchasing the goods and completely filled out in Latin letters by store employees). Please remember that items must be new (with store tags) and packaged in a manner that allows you to display them.

If your purchases are packed in check-in baggage, please indicate to the check-in employee that you need to obtain a customs confirmation of export (stamp). Then they will put a tag on your luggage and return it to you for presentation at customs. After checking the purchased items and receiving confirmation for export, the luggage must be handed over at the customs counter (there is no need to move it anywhere else). It will be automatically loaded onto the plane. And you, either in the departure area or on the way to the gate, will be able to collect the VAT amount at one of the corresponding counters.

If the purchased goods are in hand luggage, then after passing pre-flight and passport control you need to go to the customs point. There you will receive confirmation of the removal of goods, on the basis of which the VAT amount will be paid to you at one of the appropriate counters.

It is also important to remember that there are different return systems. The most popular in Europe are Global Blue and Premier Tax Free. Few people think about the fact that these companies are nothing more than intermediaries between you and the state (after all, VAT is returned to you from the budget) - for which they take their considerable commissions. In theory, you can obtain VAT in full on your own, but this is a more complex process and not everyone will want to do it. Thus, you need to go exactly to those return counters whose receipts you hold in your hands. By the way, in all stores where Tax Free is issued there should be a logo of the system with which this particular store works.

Keep in mind that when receiving a VAT refund in cash at the airport, you will pay a service fee + most likely some money will be given to you in coins, which in Russia will be almost impossible to exchange for rubles. For this reason, I always issue a refund to the card I use to pay for my purchases in the store. To do this, you need to fill out the return form yourself and throw a set of documents in the mailbox. Believe me, it is not difficult and not dangerous. The Global Blue mailbox is located next to the return counters in the departure area of Terminal 1, sector B. The advantage of this method is that you will not have to stand in queues and worry about time. And if you indicate the corn card data, you will also save on conversion (they will return it exactly at the Central Bank exchange rate).

Tax Free in the departure area

There are customs points and VAT refund counters in both terminals. I took off from the first terminal, so I’ll show you step by step what it looks like in terminal 1.

Customs post. Departures area of Terminal 1 between sectors A and B - here after baggage check-in

Next to the customs office, the Global Blue return counter - here after the customs point

The same mailbox that I wrote about above

Details of what you need to fill out before throwing in the envelope with the Tax Free form

If there is a queue as long as in the photo, and there is little time left before departure, then it is better to get a stamp at customs, check in your luggage, and then head to pre-flight inspection and passport control. After passing all the checks, you will find yourself in the transit zone. There are also customs and VAT refund counters there. But, unlike the departure lounges, there are no queues :) If your purchases are in your hand luggage, then even better. You receive the stamp and return in the transit zone without queues or waiting.

Customs point in the transit zone

The most popular return systems have their own websites where you can find out the latest information directly on your system. Global Blue and Premier Tax-free have websites in Russian, but Tax-free Germany no longer has them.

It often happens that you need to fly with a transfer in Frankfurt. The most popular question is whether a transit visa is needed? So, if you fly with the same airline, for example, Moscow-Frankfurt-Sao Paulo, with a transfer in Frankfurt no more than 24 hours, then no visa is required. And it doesn’t matter which terminal you arrive/depart from - 1 or 2 (the transit zone is combined and moving from one terminal to another is not a problem). Just remember that it will be impossible to leave the transit zone. It’s another matter when you have tickets from different airlines in your hands - here the issue of baggage reloading from flight to flight arises. Let me give you an example: you are flying Moscow-Frankfurt with Aeroflot and Frankfurt-Rio de Janeiro with TAM Airlines. In this case, I would apply for a Schengen visa. After all, even if you call Aeroflot in Moscow and they confirm that they will take care of reloading your luggage from flight to flight without your participation, it is far from a fact that TAM Airlines will do the same on the way back :)

When transferring, follow the signs that say Anschlussfluge

Frankfurt hotels and airport on the map

If connections are too long and you have a valid Schengen visa, then it makes sense to stay at a hotel. Using the map you can immediately estimate how far a particular hotel is from the airport, plus there is a useful slider in the lower right corner for “price range”. You set a filter by price and see what is nearby. Another plus is that Hotellook (and this is its map) compares offers on different booking systems (Booking, Ostrovok, etc.). As a result, it turns out to be more profitable to book - Hotellook will show you the site where the price is best.

The airport in the German city of Frankfurt am Main is also called Rhine-Main Airport (Frankfurt Airport in English). This is the oldest airport in Europe and one of its largest air hubs.

Just the facts. One of the three largest European air hubs, Frankfurt Airport serves more than 58 million passengers annually, 154 thousand people every day, and is home to the German airline Lufthansa and four other major German air carriers. In total, it opens air gates to 108 airlines from around the world.

general information

  • IATA code is FRA.
  • ICAO code – EDDF.

Airport address: 60547 Frankfurt am Main, Germany, the airport is located from the city of Frankfurt am Main, 12 km to the southeast.

The official website of the airport is www.frankfurt-airport.com in English.

Airport information service: +49 69 69 00.

Opening hours: 24 hours a day.

Brief history

Today, Frankfurt Airport is the main transfer point in Europe, which allows you to reach any city on the European continent in a couple of hours.

The history of Europe's main airport began in 1936 with the opening of the port. However, the company itself, Südwestdeutschen Luftverkehrs AG, which operates the airport with a new name to this day, was born much earlier, in 1924. The main development of the airport in its modern form began in 1972, when the first terminal was built and an underground road with a railway station was put into operation. The opening of a second terminal and an elevated train station, and in 1999 an ICE train station, allowed the airport to become a multi-transport hub, to which a bus station was later added.

In 2001, the old company was renamed Fraport AG. In 2007, it begins another large-scale construction, this time the AIRail center of the Squaire high-speed railway. The last terminal is being built in 2013.

Scheme and location of airport zones

The modern Frankfurt am Main airport is a well-organized and structured space that, with German pedantry, combines relatively small areas with a well-built infrastructure. The airport welcomes planes with three runways: two of which are concrete, one is paved, but is in impeccable condition. Five passenger lounges, three terminals, including one small VIP lounge.

The world's first automatic baggage line was installed at this airport. Luggage storage is open 24 hours a day.

Everything seems to be provided for passengers here:

  • Russian-speaking tourists pass through the Russified pavilion,
  • The main terminals are connected to each other by a free bus line, which will take you there in a matter of minutes, as well as by the SkyLine train, the stations of which are located in the terminals on the fourth floor. There is also an elevated road for moving around the transit zone.

check-in

The airport is literally “stuffed” with simple and accessible digital and alphabetic zone designations and information boards. The latter inform, among other things, about the numbers of check-in counters. It is recommended to do it 2 hours before departure, and it ends 40 minutes before the flight. Baggage during a transit flight is transported here automatically, and registration requires the presentation of a passport, ticket and visa.

Information boards at Frankfurt am Main airport operate in eight languages, including Russian.

Below is a link to the online scoreboard, which contains official and up-to-date information regarding the departure and arrival of the flight, its status - https://www.frankfurt-airport.com/de/reisen/am-flughafen.html#fluege.

From Russia to Frankfurt airport you can get by Lufthansa from Domodedovo, Aeroflot from Sheremetyevo. Rossiya Airlines organizes flights from Pulkovo to St. Petersburg.

For the convenience of passengers, there is a special escort service for accompanying you to the check-in point, checking in luggage, going through customs control, calling a taxi, etc. The price of such comfort for 2 people is 30-60 euros.

Infrastructure

On the territory of two main terminals there are currency exchange points and representative offices of four banks, where information on changes in exchange rates is constantly updated.

The airport of the German city of Frankfurt am Main is a whole small town with its own infrastructure. To ensure that passengers spend their waiting time pleasantly and profitably, there is a network of shower rooms, a hairdresser, dry cleaning, a pharmacy, grooming salons and even a bar with oxygen cocktails. Plus necessary and pleasant little things like free charging of phones and other devices from Oracle stations.

In an area accessible to everyone, there is a shopping center with stores of famous world brands, as well as about three hundred small shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. The airport has a mother and baby room with changing tables.

Passengers who have passed security checkpoints can visit the so-called “market” in Terminal 1, which includes a network of boutiques, duty-free shops, restaurants and cafes.

For the entertainment of passengers, an open observation deck is equipped in the second terminal of the airport. Access to the site is carried out by escalator. Visiting the site is paid; if you have a Frankfurt card or a student card, a discount is provided. In the interests of passenger safety, hand luggage is inspected and checked at a metal detector upon entering the site.

In addition, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) provides its passengers with many non-standard offers, including:

  • Expedited inspection at special counters - for those who are limited in time;
  • Order goods from duty-free shops at the airport and have them delivered to your home. Consultant assistance to Russian-speaking passengers, as well as passengers from China and Japan, in purchasing goods, processing VAT refunds, and, if necessary, when passing goods through the security counter;
  • Special parking spaces for women in three parking lots, providing the easiest, safest and shortest exit routes;
  • Special conditions for passengers with disabilities: special check-in counters, telephones, special toilets, etc.;
  • Frankfurt Airport and Lufthansa Airlines have recently introduced special Family Check-In Areas for passengers with children under 12 years of age;
  • Specially equipped relaxation areas in waiting rooms;
  • Cafe with a special children's menu;
  • Prayer rooms for representatives of three faiths;
  • Organization of a wedding ceremony “Spirit of Aviation” in a special area of the airport;
  • Airport tours for 45 minutes for 8 euros or one and a half hours for 15 euros;
  • Hotel for pets;
  • Playrooms for children and free rental of baby strollers throughout the terminal, in the transit area;
  • Online services: expedited flight check-in, self-service baggage check-in and automatic border control capabilities.

Parking

The airport's own parking lot has a capacity of 14 thousand spaces and offers the possibility of choosing tariffs from 35 to 459 euros, depending on the class of service.

Communication services

Everything here is of first-class quality, including the Internet. Wi-Fi is available to passengers around the clock, always open and without passwords, including in the departure area. To ensure that communication is always available there, more than 300 access points operate. You need to connect via HotSpot of the German Telecommunications company.

Hotels

The airport has its own hotels on its territory:

  • InterCityHotel,
  • Sheraton
  • Steigenberger Airport.

A huge number of hotels are located in close proximity to the terminals. Usually hotels provide their own transportation to the airport for their guests, however, there are many other ways to get there.

Transport connection

Just over 10 kilometers separate Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA) from its center. Well-developed transport infrastructure allows you to get to the city center by different types of transport:

  • Suburban trains - two trains near the airport offer tickets at ticket offices and also in ticket machines. Ticket price: 4.65 euros. An electric train departs from the first terminal, which takes passengers 12 minutes to the main station of the city. Don't forget to validate your ticket before your trip;
  • Intercity trains - in addition to the electric train, you can leave the station on high-speed trains, which also call here, and you can also go to major cities in Germany on regular trains passing through this Frankfurt station;
  • Buses – the bus network covers the entire city area and is the cheapest form of transport. The cost of the trip is 4.35 euros;
  • Taxi services – Frankfurt Airport is located next to the A3 and A5 motorways, so you can reach the city in 20 minutes and be in the center of Frankfurt in 40 minutes. Transport companies have their own parking lots near both terminals; a twenty-minute trip to the city will cost the traveler 25 euros;
  • Car rental - available at the entrance.

A taxi fare to central Frankfurt will cost approximately 40 euros. In addition, you can order a transfer to the airport and back - it costs 54 euros in an economy class car and 72 euros when ordering a minivan with 7 seats. Ordering an individual transfer is beneficial for transporting large luggage or a group of passengers.

Frankfurt Airport amazes guests; visiting it becomes an event in itself. And if not, we recommend visiting here in September or August, when the Jazz Festival or the Apple holiday are held here. In spring, guests are invited to the traditional Spring Festival, and in July there is an ice cream and strawberry festival. However, at other times there are often the most unexpected events and concert programs here.

Transfer in Frankfurt. How not to get lost

If you are on a connecting flight and do transfer in Frankfurt, information about one of the busiest airports in the world will certainly come in handy.

You can get to Frankfurt from any major world by direct flight. All world airlines and their alliances are trying to make as many flights as possible here from different parts of the planet. And not just to deliver. Frankfurt is known to be the banking center of Germany and many international trade fairs are organized here every year

Despite the fact that Frankfurt resembles a mini-city with its own infrastructure, it is impossible to get lost in it.

Frankfurt Airport consists of 2 terminals:

— Terminal 1 receives and dispatches flights from Lufthansa and Star Alliance (as well as Aeroflot)
— Terminal 2 is designed for flights of other airlines

The terminals are connected to each other by the Sky Train (aka Sky Line). runs between terminals.

For us, passengers of countries that are not members of the European Union, there are special counters for passing passport control “Non - EU Nationals” . To get to these counters, you must follow the blue signs. There are also blue signs to the pick-up hall.

If you are a passenger, then when you get from the plane to the airport building, immediately go to the flight board (you can’t help but notice it!) and find out where your connecting flight departs from. You need to know the terminal number (1 or 2) and the section letter (A, B or C). On the scoreboard it will look, for example, like this: 1B. That is, terminal 1, section B. The same should be written on your boarding pass.

Here is the diagram of Terminal 1

In Terminal 1, in addition to the free toilets located near the entrance, there are 2 showers for 6 euros (the price includes shower gel, foot mat, hairdryer and towel).

Showers are located:

  • — The first one is in the shopping gallery of section B, opposite “TUMI”
  • — Second (convenient for transit passengers) — on level 2 in the security area of section B, near exit B30 and Duty free

The waiting rooms have comfortable swivel chairs (however, there are some uncomfortable ones!) and tables for laptops (but no coffee!)

There are two train stations at Frankfurt Airport:

1. For long-distance trains
2. For commuter trains

From the long-distance train station, intercity trains IC and ICE leave for many large cities, for example Cologne. Trains arrive and depart at the AIRail Terminal from platforms 4 – 7.

From the commuter train station in Terminal 1 you can take the S8 and S9 trains to the city. Electric trains run at 15-minute intervals.

To get from the airport to, you need to take the train in the direction of Offenbach.

If you need to get to the center of Frankfurt, you can get off the train at any of 3 stations: Frankfurt Taunusanlage, Frankfurt Hauptwache or Frankfurt Constablerwache(travel time 11-14 minutes).

Our fellow countrymen have 2 more popular stops on the S8 and S9 lines - the central railway station (Frankfurts Hauptbahnhof) and Frankfurt South Station ( Frankfurt Sudbahnhof).

If you go back from the city to the airport, you need to take the S8 or S9 train to Wiesbaden. The airport station is called Regionalbahnhof(you will get directly to Terminal 1, sections A and B)

I also advise you to use.

Before boarding the train, do not forget to purchase a ticket from the machines at the station. The machines accept any coins, as well as bills up to 50 euros. But when loading a bill, be prepared to receive change in coins. Ticket costs 3.70 euros for adults.

If your route is “Airport-city center,” enter code 50 when purchasing a ticket.

If you move in the opposite direction, i.e. “City center - airport”, enter code 5090.

The fine for traveling without a ticket is 40 euros.

Additional information in 6 languages and a map of the zones can be seen on the displays of ticket machines.

Other ways to get from Frankfurt Airport to the city:

1. By bus. Bus number - 61 (takes you to Frankfurt South Station - Frankfurt Sudbahnhof). You can pay the driver
2. By taxi. Parking lots are located directly in front of the terminals. From the airport to the city center the cost is approximately 25 euros. It is not customary to negotiate a price in Germany. Payment is made according to the meter.
3. By rental car. Offices of car rental companies are located directly at the airport. The most reliable are Avis, Hertz and Eurocar. You can also do it online in advance.

"" - brochure in Russian in PDF format.

To reinforce the point that Frankfurt Airport resembles a mini-city, passengers are offered a 45-minute airport bus ride. Aviation enthusiasts will find it especially interesting.

On weekdays the tour runs from 13:00 to 16:00, on weekends – hourly, starting from 11:00. The ticket can be purchased at the junction between Frankfurt Airport Center and Terminal 1. Follow the signs Flughafen Erlebnisfahrten(i.e. "Airport Tour"). An adult ticket costs 6 euros.

Frankfurt am Main Airport is the largest airport in the Republic of Germany. It ranks second in Europe in terms of cargo transportation and third in terms of the number of passengers carried. The area of the airport in Frankfurt is 2,160 hectares, so it is very easy to get lost in the vastness of the airport terminal. The number of its employees is also amazing. Today more than 80.5 thousand people work there.

This airport terminal is international. It is at this airport that transfers to many flights take place. Passenger traffic is 50 million people per year. The airport cooperates with more than 100 air carriers that operate flights to 300 destinations. The airport has 4 runways and 2 train stations.

There are 3 terminals on the territory of the airport terminal:

  1. Terminal "1".
  2. Terminal "2".
  3. A terminal designed to serve VIPs.

If a person makes a transfer in Frankfurt, then it is worth remembering that the first 2 terminals are served by different airlines.

Terminal 1 operates exclusively with the following airlines:

  1. Lufthansa.
  2. Star Alliance.
  3. Aeroflot.
  4. Swiss.
  5. Brussels Airlines.
  6. Austrian Airlines.

Terminal 2 serves all other airlines, the largest of which are Oneworld and SkyTeam.

Since the air terminal occupies a considerable area, for ease of movement there are free trains that operate between the terminals.

Between terminals 1 and 2 there is a monorail called the Sky Line. It connects sectors both within the terminal and between them.

Train connections are available between the following sectors of the airport:

  1. "A" - terminal 1.
  2. "B" - terminal 1.
  3. "C" - terminal 1.
  4. "Z" - terminal 1.
  5. "D" - terminal 2.
  6. "E" - terminal 2.

Moving from one terminal to another takes no more than 2 minutes.

You can find the monorail on the territory of the airport terminal using special blue signs. The stops are located on level 04 - this is a transit zone.

Trains run at intervals of 2–4 minutes.

You can also travel from one terminal to another by bus. It departs from stations located in two places:

  1. In front of terminal "1".
  2. Behind terminal "1".

The bus runs every 10-12 minutes.

Transfer

If you are planning a transfer in Frankfurt, then it is worth remembering the basic rules so as not to get lost in the territory of this huge airport terminal:

The flight is marked with a license plate. The hall is a sector, which is designated in an alphanumeric sense. The first digit is the terminal number, the second letter means the sector.

  1. If a person already has a boarding pass for a connecting flight, then he needs to double-check all the data on it.
  2. If the passenger does not have a boarding pass, they must seek assistance from the reception staff at the information desk. You can also get a coupon at the check-in counters of the airline you are flying with.

Information desks are open 24 hours a day in both terminals. But it is also possible to use the touch screen.

Check-in counters for Deutsche Lufthansa and Star Alliance airlines are located in Terminal 1, Sector A. The location of other registration counters is indicated on the information board.

  1. Citizens of non-EU countries undergo passport control at counters marked with blue tables “Non - EU Nationals”.
  2. When transferring, you usually do not need to re-check your luggage. The company operating the flight will take care of transporting your belongings to the next flight.

If there is a transfer between flights within the Schengen zone, then the passenger can simply pass through the corridor that connects sectors “A” and “B”.

Emergency registration

When there is a short period of time between flights, a person can use an emergency check-in service called SCSC.

The essence of the service is that airport staff meet the traveler and accompany him to the SCSC center, where the passenger undergoes expedited check-in for his connecting flight. Passport and customs control also proceeds in an accelerated manner. After registration is completed, the traveler is taken by bus to the sector from which his next flight departs. This service is paid. Its price is 99 euros. It is worth noting that this service must be ordered in advance.

Transit

When transiting in Frankfurt, keep one thing in mind: there must be only one transit. Otherwise, for a transfer in Frankfurt you will need.

Example No. 1: flight Moscow – Frankfurt – Washington. In this case, a transit visa is not needed, since there is only one transit country - Germany.

Example No. 2: flight Moscow – Frankfurt – Rome – Washington. In this case, a transit visa to Germany will be required, since there are 2 transit countries, but only one is allowed.

The second important nuance is that you can only stay in the transit zone without a transit visa for 24 hours.

It is also worth considering that all of the above rules apply only if one ticket is issued. If, for example, a person has issued two travel documents: Moscow - Frankfurt and Frankfurt - Washington, then he needs a transit visa because he will leave the transit zone at the airport to check in for the next flight. In this case, the traveler will have to pick up his luggage and check it again.

Signs at the airport

When moving in transit, it is advisable not to go beyond the airport transit zone. Otherwise, the person will have to go through passport and customs control again. To avoid accidentally leaving the transit area, you should follow the signs “Anschlussflüge (Connecting flights)!”
