One of the attractions of Prague is the television tower, which I call “Tiwi Tower”, because the Czech version of the pronunciation (Žižkov something like that) has not yet caught on with me. Looking ahead, I immediately recommend this area for you to stay in case you are not delighted with the tourist center of Prague. This area is quite convenient, quiet, calm, and prices in cafes and restaurants are lower. But getting from here is not so difficult. The same place is only 10 minutes away by tram. There is also a metro in this area. Now let's return to the TV tower in Prague.

For all its strangeness, the tower is the best viewpoint of the city, from where you can view all corners of Prague with comfort and a camera. 360 degree view. Although it should be noted that the central part is quite far from here and you can recognize the main attractions only by silhouettes.

Not the most popular attraction, so there are no crowds, which is great. The observation deck is equipped with telescopes and hanging chairs in the “Men in Black” style, which, coupled with the small number of visitors, makes the observation deck very cozy and interesting place for visiting.

I traditionally came before sunset to take photos of day and night Prague at once. So there is a problem with night photos: the light from the interior illumination (blue and red) is reflected in the glass and all this is visible in the photo. Plus the glass is cloudy and dirty. But during the day it doesn't really bother me.

In the evening, the outside of the tower begins to shine “with all the colors of the rainbow” - lights like the Czech flag come on. If there are clouds in the sky, it looks like “fire”. It's like being in a science fiction movie.

At the top of the tower there is a restaurant called "Clouds" and your seat (i.e. window size) will depend on the amount of your order. The drinks (bar) have smaller windows and a worse view. A full meal will have a tall window and an excellent panoramic view. On the day I arrived (Friday) in the afternoon, there were no seats in the restaurant. They said that we had to book in advance. Please take this into account. Therefore, I limited myself to only the observation deck. But according to reviews, the restaurant is overpriced and the quality is average. So I wasn't upset.

The restaurant downstairs on the ground “Mimino” is also, according to reviews, not ice. So it’s better to come here only to the observation deck.

Historical reference

Žižkov TV Tower is considered the most tall building in Prague, in particular, and throughout the Czech Republic - globally. It was designed in 1985 - it was from there that this “unprecedented” futurism of the era of socialist realism came to us, which was brought to life already in 1992. And in the background beautiful city, this tower does not look like “at all”.

In 2000, as an experiment and to “decorate” the tower, ten sculptures of crawling, faceless, black babies were placed on it. On all the main resources dedicated to Prague, you can see in the photo the tower with babies. But they are no longer in my photographs - they were removed in 2017 for reconstruction and never returned. The tower isn't one of the most amazing buildings anyway, and these babies are just like fragments of the horror game "Silent Hill", although I probably would have liked it.

By the way, the building occupies some top rating among the ugly buildings in the world, which somehow inexplicably made it a source of pride for the Czech Republic (but this is not accurate). The height is 260 meters and the tower is visible from almost all areas of Prague. There is even a joke that the best views of Prague are from the Žižkov Tower because you cannot see the Žižkov Tower from it.

When traveling around Prague, hardly anyone denies themselves the pleasure of admiring its red roofs from one of a dozen observation platforms. Žižkovský vysílač is the tallest building in Prague, and debates about its beauty or ugliness have not subsided since its construction (1985-1992) to this day.

We lived within walking distance of the Žižkov TV Tower, so we couldn’t help but go up. And in general, I liked the Zizkov district itself, there is also something to see there, it’s beautiful, clean, and there are a lot of bars with low prices!

As for the appearance of the tower, according to the Internet, local residents are not happy with it. Personally, it seems quite unusual to me, but it definitely doesn’t fit into the overall picture of Prague. However, I don't think she's ugly.

To get to the observation deck, you need to take the high-speed elevator to the 4th floor. When we were there, there were enough people, but no one bothered anyone, we could easily take photographs. Some are filming, others are relaxing in hanging transparent chairs. But, as it seemed to me, there is nothing special to do there, 10-15 minutes is enough, so people don’t gather.

In the center of the tower there is a seating area and a projection of Prague on the wall. I was more interested in the view of the real city, so I didn’t even look at what was broadcast on the wall.

You can also see a smaller copy of the television tower inside. “Babies” by sculptor David Cherny crawl along the surface of the tower in different directions. There is no movement in the literal sense, of course, just set figures. To be honest, I considered myself very inattentive, because I myself saw the babies only on the Internet, after visiting the tower. Later, looking through the photographs, my husband and I still did not find a single baby, and we read somewhere on the Internet that they were supposed to be removed for restoration in the fall. I have not found official confirmation of this, but most likely it is so. Well, we couldn’t help but notice them! We walked past the tower for three days!

But I won’t lie, I added a little brightness to the photo, since the day was not yet sunny, and the cloudy glass spoils the picture a little. It looks dirty and scratched, like plastic. It was not always possible to take normal photographs through it - sometimes it’s gray, sometimes there’s glare. It is precisely because of the glass that I do not want to recommend the observation deck in the Žižkov Tower, it really spoils the view. Although many people write on the forums that they take great pictures from there.

Of course, Prague is beautiful no matter how you look at it! Only for some reason I experienced greater delight in other places than when visiting the Zizkov TV tower.

What this tower is high place Prague certainly attracts. But I wouldn’t go there again if they offered it to me, especially for 250 CZK. At the walls Prague Castle also opens good view onto the city and rooftops, albeit not from a height of 93 meters. And judging by the photographs on the Internet, from the Powder Tower and from some others where there are sites, the view is no worse, and the cost is lower.

It might make sense to go to the restaurant on the 3rd floor, but I haven't been there, so I can't say anything. Specifically, the observation deck on Žižkovskaya TV tower I don't recommend it!

Here, for the convenience of visitors, there are cozy armchairs. The interior is furnished in the style of a science-fiction film set. If desired, guests will be able to enjoy the view of the city through a huge telescope, or examine in detail the model of the tower located in the center of the site.
