Travel from Podgorica to Budva. How to get from Tivat airport, Podgorica to Budva and resorts in Montenegro. Buses from Budva to Cetinje

We tell you how to get from Tivat airport to Budva and other resorts in Montenegro by taxi, bus and transfer. Travel time, prices, advice on choosing transport.

There are 3 options to get to the nearest resorts from Tivat airport: take an intercity bus (2 euros), order a transfer in advance (from 20 euros) or take a taxi on the spot (the cost depends on the direction).

Brief information (using Budva as an example):

  • Travel time: 20-50 minutes
  • Distance: 21.5 kilometers
  • Cost: from 2 euros

If you have little luggage and are traveling alone or as a couple, then the best option would be an intercity bus. If you come with children or have a lot of things with you, then it would be wiser to order a transfer in advance or contact local taxi drivers.

How to fly to Montenegro cheaply? Inexpensive tickets can be easily found through the Aviasales search engine. It is best to consider different departure dates.

Transfer from Tivat airport

The most convenient way to get from the airport to the desired resort in Montenegro is to order an inexpensive transfer in advance. This can be done on the website in advance. They will meet you at the airport with a sign (even if the flight is delayed), help you with your luggage, and take you straight to your hotel.

The duration of the transfer to Budva from Tivat airport is approximately 20-30 minutes, to other cities a little longer.

In 2018, prices for transfers from Tivat airport are as follows (the price is indicated for a car for 3-4 passengers):

  • Ulcinj – from 60 euros
  • – from 20 euros

Buses to other resorts

No buses depart from Tivat airport, but there is a highway near the terminal where you can catch them. Option two:

  1. Go out onto the highway (50-100 meters from the airport) and catch passing buses.
  2. Walk along the road another 100 meters and wait for the bus at the stop (go out onto the road, then turn left - you won’t miss the stop).
    • To get to Budva, Podgorica, Kotor, Bar or Ulcinj, wait for the bus at the stop located on the side of the road closer to the airport building.
    • To get to Tivat, Herceg Novi or Perast, you need to go to the stop located across the road.
  3. If you are not sure that the bus that arrives is right for you, then simply ask the driver if it stops at the location you need.

Getting from Tivat airport to the city by bus is not convenient (especially with suitcases or small children), because you have to go to the bus stop and wait for transport in the heat, but this is the cheapest way to get to the desired resort.

The ticket price is 2 euros, buses pass through the stop every 15-30 minutes. The drive is about half an hour - that is, taking into account the wait for the bus, it will take approximately 40-60 minutes to get to Budva. Buses do not operate at night.

Map with Tivat airport, stops and bus stations:

Tivat bus station

You can also walk to the Tivat bus station, which is located a kilometer from the airport - from there buses depart to most resorts in Montenegro. Ticket price starts from 4 euros.

Car rental

If you plan to travel a lot around Montenegro on your own (for example, to see the sights), then it makes sense to rent a car right at the airport and use it to get to the hotel.

Distance 21 km

The nearest airport to Budva is near the city of Tivat. Most flights land here.

On the map, point A is Tivat airport, point B is bus station in Budva. The man near point A is standing in the place where you can catch a bus, details below in the text.

🚌 By bus

Ticket price: 2.5-3€ bus + 2€ by taxi in Budva from the bus station to your home/hotel. Travel time: 1 hour, if you're lucky, more often 1.5 hours.

There is no direct bus from Tivat airport to Budva. The most budget option: leave the airport on the Jadran Path (the highway connecting Tivat and Budva) and catch a passing bus there. A bus going to Budva, Podgorica, Bar is suitable.

Buses on this route run every half hour. 5 minutes needed to get from the airport to the Jadran route, 10-30 minutes while waiting for the bus (depending on your luck) and 30 minutes on the way to Budva. Total minimum 1 hour.

The advantage of this method is its low price. Minus: you have to stand on the highway in the heat with a suitcase.

Alternative: see if there are tourist buses near the airport that pick up tourists who have arrived on a tour package. If you see such a bus, ask the driver to take you to Budva for an additional fee.

Buses arrive at the bus station in Budva, which is located away from the beaches. From the station we either walk to the apartment/hotel or take a taxi. Get from the bus station in Budva to your accommodation: from 2€ for boarding + 1€ for 1 km.

From below you can see the runway of Tivat airport going into the sea

🚕 By taxi

Taxi from Tivat airport to Budva costs 20-25€ for the car, on the way 25 minutes.

We ordered a transfer online through. I can confidently recommend it as the best in terms of price, quality and reliability.

I read on forums reviews of people who ordered a taxi from Montenegrin services by phone, but the taxi did not arrive or left without waiting for the passengers. Our flight was delayed by half an hour - the transfer driver waited and did not complain.

The transfer driver gave Montenegrin wine

If you are planning to travel around Montenegro, it is worth renting a car in advance, which will be waiting at the airport.

Renting a car in Montenegro for a day costs the same as a one-way taxi from the airport to Budva.

A car will help you save on transfers and see the country without being tied to transport and excursions.

It’s so cool when you arrive and they greet you! For example, a rental car

Airport Podgorica-Budva

Distance 65 km

From time to time, sales of air tickets to Podgorica pop up, so there is a chance to fly to the capital airport of Montenegro and from there get to Budva.

Price: 1.2€ train or 10€ taxi to Podgorica bus station + 5€ bus to Travel time: minimum 2h

Cheap way to get to Budva from Podgorica

Aerodrom railway station is 1.3 km from the airport. You can reach it on foot from the airport in 15-20 minutes and go by train to Podgorica.

Walk along a road without a sidewalk, but traffic is rare there, so it’s not scary. Check the train schedule at zcg-prevoz.me

Choose Aerodrom-Podgorica and the desired date. We are interested in the graph Polazak— at this time you need to be at Aerodrom station to take the train to Podgorica. Buy tickets in the carriage from the conductor, 1.2€ , 7 minutes.

Trains do not always run exactly on schedule. Sometimes minute by minute, and sometimes they can linger for half an hour. The Aerodrom stop is essentially on the outskirts of the village; there is no ticket office there.

In Podgorica you need to walk from the train station to the bus station (they are nearby) and buy a bus ticket to Budva ( 5€ ).

In Budva, the bus arrives at the bus station, which is located away from the beaches. You will need to walk another 1-3 km to your home if you live near the sea, or take a taxi around the city ( 2€ landing + 1€ for 1 km).

Find out the schedule and prices for buses in Montenegro at busticket4.me

Second option: travel by train from Aerodrom railway station to Sutomore or Bar ( 2€, 50 minutes), then go to the bus station and buy bus tickets to Budva ( 4-5€, 1h 10min).

If you are planning a trip to Montenegro, you can go online in advance for the duration of your trip to get a car at the airport and return it before departure.

For example, a taxi transfer from Podgorica airport to the coast and back to the airport is comparable in price to 4 days of renting a simple car at a local rental office.

Price: 35-50€ (prices vary between taxi services)
On my way 1h 10min

We once flew to Podgorica airport early in the morning and booked in advance to Budva for 39€ .

The flight was delayed for half an hour, but the driver was still waiting at the airport with a sign. We arrived quickly and comfortably, so we were satisfied.

The transfer that came to pick us up at Podgorica airport

Taxi drivers in Budva

A case from one's life. On my first visit to ChG, I relaxed and forgot that the flight was early tomorrow morning. I remembered late at night. We didn’t have time to order a taxi on the Internet, so we asked Budva taxi drivers - 50€ .

We decided to follow the method we use in Georgia: contact Peter (the owner of our apartment) for assistance. It’s a pity, they forgot that we are not in Georgia, but in Montenegro.

How will we go? Through a tunnel or through the mountains? Through the tunnel 50€ , in the mountains 40€

But you told Peter yesterday that through the mountains 35€ , and through the tunnel 40€ . We said that we would go through the mountains for 35€ to stop at the lookout.

Peter misunderstood. If you don't want to pay, leave.

Interesting move. I thought that this only happens in India, when you agreed on one price in advance, but on the way it turns out that the price will be different.

I didn’t really want to go out on the highway two hours before departure. In the end they paid 40€ and regretted a hundred times that we did not order the transfer online in advance. The main thing is not “by acquaintance”.

Road through the mountains at dawn

Tivat-Becici Airport

Distance 23 km

The resort village begins 2 km south of Budva, so the principle of getting to Becici from airports is the same as in the case of Budva, only a transfer will be required.

By bus

Ticket price 2.5-3€ bus Tivat-Budva + 1.5€ bus Budva-Becici. Travel time: 1-1h30m

If you catch a bus to Bar, it will pass Becici. The main thing is not to miss your stop.

This is Becici. The Jadran Path route passes through the village

If you take a bus going to Podgorica, then get off in Budva at any stop on the Jadran route and wait for the bus Budva-Sveti Stefan, which will take us to Becici in 1.5€ .

Second option: get off the bus in Budva at the stop in front of Mogren Stadium and walk to Becici ( 3-4 km)

If you take the Tivat-Budva bus, then get off in Budva at any stop on the Jadran route (no need to go to the bus station) and wait for the Budva - Sveti Stefan bus (runs every 10 minutes, costs 1.5€ )

Transfer price 22€
On my way 30 minutes

Alternative: rent a car in advance to pick it up at the airport and save on transfer costs.

Where are you? The sea is waiting!

Podgorica Airport - Becici

Distance 64 km
Taxi 39€ , on my way 1h 5min

Taxi+bus+bus or train+bus – from 7€ , on my way 2-3h

There is a chance that the Podgorica-Budva bus will travel through Becici. You can ask the driver to stop in Becici.

You can get to Bar in the same way as to Budva: we go out onto the Jadran path and catch the Tivat-Bar bus ( 6.5€, 1h 10min)

Or catch the Tivat-Budva bus ( 3€) , and in Budva at the bus station we change to another bus Budva-Bar ( 5€) .

From Podgorica airport The cheapest way to get to Bar is by train ( 1 hour, 2€). You have to walk for 15-20 minutes to the Aerodrom railway station, then wait for the train.

In the column Polazak the time is indicated when the train will arrive at the Aerodrom station (it can arrive exactly on schedule or late within 5-30 minutes).

Other resorts in Montenegro can be reached according to the same principle as the places listed above. See the schedule of trains and buses, compare with taxi prices and create your own routes.

If you decide to get from the airport to the resort by public transport, install the application on your phone maps.me(works offline) and activate the geolocation function. This way you can navigate on the map and get off the bus at the right stop.

Have an easy trip to the resorts of Montenegro!

Russian tour operators offer several Montenegrin airports for landing. Podgorica is not considered the most favorable place, since getting to the resort Budva is problematic. And yet, if there is no choice, then you need to study in advance the options on how best to get from Podgorica airport to the Montenegrin resort. There are several options to choose from, including direct buses and taxis. Transfers, commercial shuttles, and electric trains are also available to tourists.

Distance

The distance between Podgorica airport and Budva is approximately 60-65 kilometers. The section is mountainous, so even the fastest drivers take at least 80-90 minutes to get there. The path runs through the Sozina tunnel, or through the small town of Cetinje. The road is quite difficult, so tourists are not recommended to use a rental car. After a flight, a tired person may lose vigilance on a difficult section of the road. In addition, you will spend a lot of money on gasoline. In Montenegro it is not cheap. Therefore, the best options are taxi, bus and transfer. You can rent a car upon arrival in Budva.

Buses

First you need to get to the Podgorica bus station. It is located at a respectful distance from the airport. By taxi you will get there in 10-15 minutes. It's a long walk - about half an hour. Plus, waste time waiting for the bus. As a result, the journey from Podgornitsa airport to Budva will take at least 3 hours. You can also get there by train - the ticket costs 1.2 euros.

Buses from the station in Podgorica to Budva run every 20-30 minutes, travel time is approximately 1.5 hours. You can view the detailed schedule on the website https://busticket4.me/RU/1121-1139-132-0-0/0-1/Podgoritsa-Budva. The fare is 4.5-6 euros. Carriers are different, so read the reviews directly on the website to choose the most convenient option.

Do you know how to get from Podgorica to Budva with minimal money costs?

  • After leaving the airport, go to the Aerodrom railway station. It takes about 20 minutes to get there. If you don't have much luggage, take a walk.
  • Take the train to Podgorica station, having previously studied the schedule. It is available on the website http://www.zcg-prevoz.me/. Interval - 1-2 hours depending on the time of day. Cost 1.2 euros.
  • Take the bus to Budva. The schedule is available on the website https://busticket4.me. The travel time is on average one and a half hours, the ticket price is 5 euros.

Thus, for the entire journey you will pay no more than 7 euros. And one more thing: keep in mind that taxi drivers at the airport can deceive you by saying that the Aerodrom station is no longer open. It is not true. You can verify the opposite right now by going to the website http://www.zcg-prevoz.me/ and entering the words “Aerodrom” and “Podgorica” into the search.

KiwiTaxi offers a ride on a commercial shuttle. Its cost is approximately 1.5 thousand rubles per person. The bus is very comfortable, the waiting time is about 30 minutes. If you are traveling around Montenegro with a group of 3-4 people, then taking a shuttle is not profitable. It’s easier to order passenger transport from KiwiTaxi. The cost will be the same, but you will only ride with your company, plus you won’t have to wait until the bus is full and starts moving.

Taxi

Taxi prices range from 35 to 50 euros. The advantages of such transport are obvious:

  • Prompt delivery. Travel time is 80-100 minutes.
  • The car is delivered directly to the airport.
  • Early booking is possible.
  • Comfort.

If, for example, it is better to get from Tivat airport by bus, then from Podgorica it is more expedient to take a taxi. The bus travel time can be up to three hours. In addition, taxis can order various cars (KiwiTaxi is an example):

  • Micro. A small car will deliver three people for 2.6-3 thousand rubles. A convenient option for mom, dad and child.
  • Standard. The cost of the trip is 3.6 thousand rubles on average. Suitable for a company of 4 people.
  • Business Class. You will have to pay about 4 thousand rubles for the trip, but the high level of comfort is worth it. You are served cars such as Mercedes E-class or Audi A6.
  • Premium class. You are served with a luxury car. The cost of the service reaches 70-80 euros.
  • Minivan. The cost depends on the number of seats. You can choose a car from 4 to 19 seats (mini-bus).

Important: when booking a hotel in Budva, ask if the transfer service is included in the price. If yes, then at Podgorica airport you will be met by a person with a sign. The transfer can also be ordered from the transport company in advance. Moreover, the delivery cost will be approximately 35-45 euros. The car will be delivered to the airport without delay. You will be met by a driver with a sign and taken to the indicated hotel in Budva.

From the article you will learn how do buses work in Montenegro(prices, schedule, how to save). There will be many links to other bus posts that may be just as useful and important.

Let's talk about the most popular bus routes(from Budva to Kotor, to Tivat, to Sveti Stefan, to Podgorica, etc.).

You will also find out where to look for a bus station in Budva, and how to use it.

Important! It should be noted right away that Montenegro is a car country, i.e. The most convenient way to study it is by car. Transport rental prices are affordable, the roads are excellent, the views are amazing, so why not give yourself such pleasure.

A short checklist before traveling to Montenegro, these are the minimum requirements for your comfortable vacation.

The blog has detailed posts about choosing an area to live in:

  • in Budva - all areas of the most popular resort;
  • in Becici and Rafailovici - housing on the coast and in the mountains;
  • in Podgorica - for those who love shopping;
  • in Petrovac - apartments and hotels on the beaches;
  • in Sutomore - quiet housing, almost village-style;
  • in Ulcinj - colorful and cheap;
  • in Tivat - comfortable accommodation near the airport;
  • in Bar - very inexpensive apartments for long-term stays and for off-season holidays;
  • in Kotor - apartments and hotels in the UNESCO monument city;
  • in Herceg Novi - apartments in the greenest Montenegrin city.

Regional Montenegrin buses- these are perhaps the most important and convenient buses for tourists. Perhaps this type of bus service has a more beautiful name, but I call them regional buses and here's why. In some regions of Montenegro (around the Bay of Kotor, on the Budva Riviera, etc.) very comfortable buses operate; their convenience lies not in the comfort of the cabin, but in the routes. These are not intercity or city buses, but regional ones, since their travel radius is greater than that of city buses, but less than that of intercity buses.

For example: you can travel around the entire Bay of Kotor on Blue Line buses, and along the Budva Riviera (beaches Ploce, Jaz, Sveti Stefan, Petrovac) Mediterian Express buses travel. The schedule of these buses is very flexible (they run along the Budva Riviera once every 15 minutes), and the fare starts from 1 Euro. Look for the Mediterian Express bus schedule at bus stops.

There are city buses in Montenegro, but they are found only in large cities (like the example of Podgorica). City buses in Podgorica are no different from all the usual buses in Russia, there is a route number, there is an exact route, there is a fare payment at the entrance, there are designated stops, etc.

Bus schedule at bus stations in Montenegro and on the Internet

Almost all Montenegrin bus stations have a bus schedule. At “advanced” stations there are electronic boards with the schedule; at simpler stations you will see an information board with a printed schedule. If there is no bus station building in the locality, then you can find out the schedule from local residents.

After purchasing a ticket, you will be allowed onto the platform. At the most advanced stations (I saw this in Podgorica), everything is automated, present your ticket with a barcode and go through. But in other places, there is no automation; you show your ticket to the station worker and he lets you onto the platform.

If there is no bus station with turnstiles, then wait for the bus right on the highway or bus stop

How to find your bus at the bus station

Under the windshield or right on the bus you can see a sign with the name of the carrier company (see photo). There can be a little confusion regarding the decoding of names on the sides of buses. For example, on buses you can see this inscription Gardaševič Nikšič, from it you can understand that the bus goes from Gardaševič to Nikšič. In fact, this is just a slogan for a carrier company from the city of Niksic, and Gardaševič is actually a surname.

There is also an indication of the carrier on your ticket (see photo), you just need to compare the information about the carrier (look for the Prevoznik inscription on the ticket) from the ticket with the information on the windshield of the bus. Before boarding the bus, they will check your ticket again and if the bus is not yours, they will gently hint that you should wait for your ticket.

Montenegrin buses can make stops on demand

Buses in Montenegro can stop anywhere (just like our minibuses), so don’t be surprised when a big bus stops at your first request. You can also get off the bus anywhere, you don’t have to go to the designated stop and then return half a kilometer. For example, a large regular bus traveling along the route from Budva to Tivat can be stopped on the highway in the area of the tourist beaches of Jaz or Radanovići.

How to save on fares on Montenegrin buses

I wrote about paying directly on the bus and how to do it a little higher, but here I describe a simpler method that can give you small savings.

Catch a life hack about how you can legally save money when paying for trips on Montenegrin buses. If there are turnstiles at the bus station, and you have a long way to go, then at the ticket office you can buy a so-called platform card (its price is one Euro; at the bus station in Podgorica, you can throw 1 Euro at the turnstile and it will let you through).

With it you can only enter the platform, but you cannot ride the bus; the platform card is not a bus ticket. Use this card to enter the platform, and then board the desired bus and pay the fare to the driver. On long trips you can save a couple of Euros.

Payment for baggage when traveling on Montenegrin buses

It is important to know this and always be prepared for the requirement to pay for baggage, but it is not a fact that you will be required to pay, it all depends on the carrier. Baggage transportation is a paid service, 1 Euro per seat. Have small change.

With payment for luggage and its transportation on Montenegrin buses, everything is cloudy and incomprehensible. Some carriers allow fairly large suitcases into the cabin, while others require even backpacks, which I carried on board the plane as hand luggage, to be placed in the luggage compartments.

I saw a rather unpleasant situation with a foreign tourist and his luggage. A tourist goes to Tivat airport from Budva with all his belongings, he is asked to pay for his luggage. The tourist does not understand anything, but is ready to pay by card (he did not have cash, he only had a bank card) and goes towards the cash register, to which he receives the answer “Pay here and only in cash.” The passenger begins to “boil.” I hand the poor fellow a 1 Euro coin, but the man refuses and goes to look for the truth at the cash register. The bus finishes boarding and leaves without a tourist rushing to the airport.

Do you also think that such driver behavior in this situation is pure redneck?

Bus fares in Montenegro

Bus routes in Montenegro can be different, although they go to the same destination. It should be kept in mind that flights can be direct, or with stops in different cities; the duration and price of the trip will depend on this.

I will give a part of the map of Montenegro (Adriatic coast), on which you can see the most tourist bus routes. , look for the link.

Budva buses, routes, prices, schedules

Budva bus station is located on the same street as the police department and the main hospital of the city. Entrance is from Popa Jola Zeca street (). Another landmark is a large shopping center, it is located on the opposite side of the entrance to the bus station.

Bus schedule from Budva
