Where is Vnukovo located?

Vnukovo Airport is located outside the Moscow Ring Road, 28 km southwest of the center of Moscow and consists of three air terminal complexes.
Vnukovo-1 is responsible for transporting ordinary passengers. There are three terminals here, each of which takes on a specific task:
- Terminal A serves domestic flights and most international routes, receiving 79% of all traffic.
- Terminal B is responsible for charter flights and Asian low-cost airlines. It accounts for 19% of passengers.
- Terminal D is currently out of service and is only used for arrivals and post-arrival screening of some flights.
Vnukovo-2 is located south of the Vnukovo-1 terminals and is responsible for servicing persons of national importance: the president, government and official representatives of other states.
Vnukovo-3 has the status of a VIP complex and is located slightly west of the passenger terminals near Borovskoye Highway.
Vnukovo airport: how to get there?
Moscow is very close to the main Vnukovo terminals, which means there are many ways to get to them:
- by Aeroexpress;
- by car;
- by bus and minibus.
All of these options have their pros and cons. Some are attracted by the price, others by the opportunity to quickly find themselves in the right place.
How to get to Vnukovo Airport by metro
The airport is located outside the Moscow Ring Road, away from the metro, but there are minibuses and buses from some stations (Yugo-Zapadnaya and Oktyabrskaya), and an Aeroexpress from Kievsky Station (Kyiv metro station).
Aeroexpress Vnukovo is a high-speed train that travels non-stop to the final destination Vnukovo-1 in 35 minutes.
The entrance to the Kievsky station building, from where trains depart, is located opposite the Evropeisky shopping center. You can also purchase tickets there if you have not done so in advance online.
The cost of travel on the express train is 340 rubles one way, 680 rubles both ways. There are also a number of special rates for groups and beneficiaries. There are even passes for a whole month for those who very often use Aeroexpress services.
Trains arrive at an underground station near the airport, from where there is a passage to Terminal A. To get to Terminals B and D, you will need to go outside, following the signs on the signs, turn left and go under the overpass.
How to get to Vnukovo airport by bus
There are several regular buses running to the airport building from the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station to the Airport stop:
- No. 611 goes with all stops, the travel time will take 35-40 minutes.

- No. 611f - minibus, following the bus route in 20-25 minutes.
- No. 272 - stops everywhere, including at the “Hotel” stop, from where you need to walk about 200 meters to the airport.

Finding a parking lot near the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station is quite simple: at the exit from the station in the direction of the train, turn right, then, after exiting the passage, go left and look for a sign with the numbers of the required buses.
Often transport is already parked there, waiting for its passengers.
How to get to Vnukovo by minibus
In addition to buses, there are also minibuses to Vnukovo Airport. They depart both from the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station and from the Oktyabrskaya ring station.
From the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station there is minibus No. 45. Travel time on it takes only 20-25 minutes, but the fare is 100 rubles. These comfortable minibuses depart from the same stop as city ones, and payment is made from the driver.
Minibuses No. 705m run from Oktyabrskaya metro station. To find them, you need to turn right at the exit from the station lobby. The stop is located between the kiosks. The fare for this route is 130 rubles, and the journey to the airport will take about 45 minutes, depending on the traffic situation.
This is not the most convenient and cheapest form of transport, given that you will have to pay an additional 10 rubles for each piece of luggage.
How to get to Vnukovo Airport by car
You can get to the airport along three highways: Kievsky, Minsky and Borovsky. The shortest route runs along Kievsky, but it all depends on the congestion of the routes. Sometimes the longest path is the shortest.
For those who travel by their own transport, there are two covered paid parking lots for 700 cars in the airport area. They are located 30 meters from the entrance to Terminal A.
When entering the airport, the driver must receive a parking ticket. From the moment you receive this ticket, your parking time begins to count down. If the car stays in this zone for more than 15 minutes, after parking it is necessary to pay for the parking time at the rates indicated in the cash registers.
When leaving the territory, the parking ticket is inserted into a special machine counter, and if the car does not have unpaid parking time, the barrier will rise and you can continue driving.
These are the main options for getting to Vnukovo Airport. They all have some advantage over others, and each person can choose a method to their liking and wallet.
However, finally I would like to give some advice:
1. During rush hour on weekdays, you should refrain from traveling by public transport in Moscow. But even at other times, it’s worth checking traffic jams more often, otherwise there’s a chance you’ll be late for your plane.
2. If you leave Moscow by public transport or car, be sure to allow two to three extra hours for the road.
3. Aeroexpress does not operate at night, like public transport. Getting to the airport at night is only possible by car or taxi.
4. There is no direct route from Vnukovo to other Moscow airports. You can choose either a taxi, or the combined option of aeroexpress + metro or minibus + metro.
You can fly to your holiday destination on either a regular or charter flight. “Charter flights are additional flights that are not on the regular schedule...”. However, why do it so officially, let’s keep it simple: a charter flight is the “stepson” of any airport in the world.
Let's imagine a situation: bad weather is raging in Europe, and 200 regular flights are delayed at Vnukovo airport. So, as soon as the skies over Europe clear, the delayed regular flights will be the first to depart. And our charter will be pushed into the background.
In addition, if a flight is underloaded, the tour operator reserves the right to change the departure time and board. In other words, transfer your tourists to the plane of another tour operator that flies in the same direction. Only the departure date remains unchanged, but not the time.
This digression is especially relevant for tourists from the regions flying on vacation from Moscow, who, when selecting a tour, are guided by the departure / return time, trying to adapt to connecting flights or the train schedule to their city.

You can get to Vnukovo Airport by public transport from the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station: exit the first carriage, go right into the underground passage, then go left along the stairs and straight along the street.

Travel time to the airport by ground public transport is 30-40 minutes. But, a significant disadvantage of any ground transport in Moscow is traffic jams. No one ever knows for sure or even dares to guess: how long it will actually take to travel from the city to the airport or back.
Therefore, in order to get to the airport as predictably, quickly and comfortably as possible, preference should be given to Aeroexpress.

The entrance to the Aeroexpress terminal is located in the Kievsky railway station building (Kyiv metro station, radial or ring, opposite the Evropeisky shopping center).
The electric train departs from the Kievsky railway station every hour from 6:00 to 00:00 and arrives at Vnukovo airport at the underground railway station located opposite terminal "A".
The duration of the trip by Aeroexpress to Vnukovo Airport is 35 minutes.
Currently, international flights at Vnukovo Airport are carried out from terminal A and terminal B. In your memo and itinerary receipt (air ticket) you see from which terminal your flight will operate.

However, during peak hours, a queue may form at the entrance. In this case, to save time after the glass doors, it is better to turn left, left again, go outside to the station square and enter the terminal through the first floor.

Unlike Domodedovo Airport, where the counters of all tour operators are concentrated in one area, in Vnukovo these counters are dispersed across different areas of terminals “A” and “B”.

Check-in for a flight can be done in both traditional and alternative ways. In particular, today, a number of airlines provide their passengers with the opportunity to register for a flight on the airline’s website even 36 hours before departure.
And if you fly on vacation with one of these companies, your manager will check you in for the flight and give you a printed boarding pass before you go to the airport.
In this case, you do not need to arrive at the airport 2-3 hours before departure. It will be enough to take into account the likely delays that may occur at the entrance to the terminal, when checking in for a flight or going through passport and pre-flight controls. The second option for alternative check-in for a flight is the so-called. “self-check-in kiosks.” In common parlance - terminals, because everything here is clear as in a familiar terminal.

Vnukovo Airport is the largest in the Moscow air hub in terms of the number of domestic flights served, so if you are flying somewhere in Russia, then there is a high probability that you will end up here. Such large Russian airlines as UTair, Rossiya and Pobeda are based in Vnukovo, it is the main hub for them, and from foreign ones, for example, Turkish Airlines and.
“Vnukovo” is the closest airport to Moscow: we, of course, mean the real one, and not the new suburban Moscow, on the territory of which it is, in fact, located. Getting to the airport is quite easy.
Firstly, by Aeroexpress from Kievsky Station. It is important to know that it usually runs only once an hour, so if you are late for one of them, you will have to wait a very long time for the next one: you can easily miss your flight. In addition, keep in mind that upon arrival at the underground station (like in the metro), the entire crowd from the train rushes along the passage to the airport terminal building, where, due to the low capacity of the security check area, a huge queue forms -! Luckily, you can get around it by turning left and taking an escalator or elevator to the surface. Here, however, you will have to cross the road.
Secondly, by bus. The old way: from the Yugo-Zapadnaya or Troparevo metro stations you can take city bus No. 611. By the way, he drives in dedicated lanes, so he doesn’t get stuck in traffic jams for long. So, you can easily wait half an hour for this 611 bus. Crowding on bus 611 is, in general, also a common occurrence: it is used by residents of villages along the Kievskoye Highway. Perhaps its only advantage is the later departures of the last flights, around half past one in the morning (other routes end earlier).
Therefore, in connection with the opening of the Salaryevo metro station, it is better to travel through it. From there there is an express bus 911 (formerly called 611k), which takes only 16 minutes. The last one leaves at 23:49. In addition, there is also bus 272 from Salaryevo (last at 00:30), which does not even come close to the terminal itself, but stops at the intersection of Tsentralnaya and 1st Reisovaya streets. However, the walk from this stop to Terminal A is a little longer, but more pleasant (along the park) and more convenient than from the 611/911 stop: firstly, you will have to overcome much fewer curbs along the way. Secondly, part of the path passes through a comfortable underground passage with an “Aeroexpress” sign (the passage also has elevators, with a separate entrance to them on the left). The underground passage leads directly to the -1st level of Terminal A, from where you can take the elevator to the check-in area.
There is also bus 272K. It differs in that it makes a circle around the village of Vnukovo. So we strongly recommend buses from Salaryevo: they are fast and cheap.
Lifehack: there is an elevator in Salaryevo, but it is not so easy to find - it hides behind the stairs when it seems that the stairs are the end of the station and there is nothing behind it. To get on the elevator, you need to go all the way to the end of the platform, this is the first door of the first car from the center. At the end of the platform on the left there is an elevator door. An elevator leads to the lobby level. Next, you need to go through the highlighted turnstile by pressing the green button on it, turn right, go through a series of glass doors and on the right along the wall there will be the door of the second elevator, which leads to the surface. On the surface, the elevator opens into a separate pavilion, which is closer to the stop than the main exit from the stairs. So the elevator is very convenient to use, especially with luggage.
It’s better to go faster towards Moscow by going to the “Hotel” stop on the street. Central, where all three buses stop.

In your car you can drive not only along Kievskoye, but also along Borovskoye Highway; the terminal is not far from Vnukovo. Access to the departure area of terminal A (via the overpass) is free, without barriers, but parking there is strictly prohibited and the exit from the terminal to the street is closed, there is only an entrance. So if you are seeing someone off by car, do not enter the terminal; it will be very difficult to return to the car.
To leave Vnukovo on bus 611/911, you need to find the right stop.
Going in the opposite direction on the 611/911 bus is also not so easy: the stop is not at all at the terminal (there are only minibuses there, and once you get in, you can wait half an hour for departure), but is separated from it by multi-story parking lots, which you need to bypass, and, having crossed two roads finally discover it. The landmark is the entrance to terminal B. The problem is that there are two stops, they are located 20 meters from each other and buses from them go in different directions: to “Yugo-Zapadnaya” and to “Vnukovo Plant”, respectively. You need the stop that is further from the intersection, that is, closer to terminal A! But let us emphasize that you need to go here if you have luggage and want to board an empty bus at the terminus. In all other situations, it is better to go to the bus stop on the street. Central.
Opened in 2012, Terminal A is de facto the airport's only terminal. In fact, there is also Terminal B, a former international terminal from which a small number of international flights have recently operated, mainly charter (Ai Fly) and low-cost (Wizz Air), but now all of them have been transferred to Terminal A, and Terminal B is mothballed. And also between them there is the old terminal D - such (1), into which several domestic flights arrive per day, the passengers of which undergo post-flight inspection. When departing, you will depart in any case from the new terminal, which is the largest in area in Russia.
Unlike Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo with two parallel runways, thanks to which you can use one runway for takeoffs and another for landings, at Vnukovo the runways intersect, so the ability to use them at the same time is limited. Depending on the operating scheme, both lanes may be in operation simultaneously, for example, landing on Runway 1 from the region, and takeoff from Runway 2 towards Moscow. This is already being used in practice. There is an option to take off from both runways towards Moscow at the same time, and from Runway-2 - from the cross; for business jets, the remaining runway is enough for take-off.
The airfield, of course, allows you to do much less air defense than at Domodedovo and quite a bit less than at Sheremetyevo, but still its capacity is sufficient for both the full load of terminal A and the full load of terminal B. The airport (both the airfield and airport complex) can serve about 25-30 million passengers per year.
Two runways at Vnukovo intersect.
But now the airport is not fully loaded (14 million passengers in 2016), so the terminal creates a feeling of silence, calm and tranquility, especially in the evening. There are no crowds, bustle or stuffiness here; the waiting room is always full of free benches, in catering establishments there are always empty seats - in a word, the complete opposite of Sheremetyevo or, especially, Domodedovo with passengers sleeping in every corner.

The check-in counter blocks are “assigned” to the airlines; There is no multi-flow separation like “all domestic flights here, all international flights there”, as in Sheremetyevo, which is good for late passengers: you don’t need to ask to be skipped in line if check-in is about to end.
Only counters for flights to visa countries are allocated separately - airline employees first check the availability of visas and only then let you through to the check-in counters.
There are also representative offices of major airlines near the check-in counters, so if you have any questions, you won’t have to go far to find an office. However, if there is no one at the representative desk, you can still contact the office - they are located on the third floor.
You can also go through transit without luggage from the check-in hall.
A small queue may occur at security, however, on domestic flights, if a crowd is detected, you can try to go through the corridor for transfer passengers (“Transit without baggage”) with a dedicated security area (to do this, you need to go to the baggage claim area, telling the security guard that you are at the KNB , then turn left, go up and walk along the gallery towards those arriving). By the way, about luggage: upon arrival you can see your suitcases on the monitors and put them on the belt. This is not the case at other airports.
Where to eat at Vnukovo airport? Let's start with budget options. Firstly, the information disseminated on the Internet about the ultra-cheap canteen in Terminal D is outdated; this legendary establishment has been closed for a long time, but the advantage of Vnukovo is its location not in an open field, but in the city. Therefore, there are several canteens and cafes within walking distance.
Thus, 350 meters from the main entrance to Terminal A there is a cafe at the Vnukovo Hotel (Tsentralnaya St. 2, building 1A) with affordable prices. You need to go there along a forest path, at the beginning of which there is a sign “100 meters”. In fact, it is not 100, but 222, but do not be afraid.
The disadvantage of this cafe is that it is open until 8 pm.
600 meters from the main entrance (go straight along 1st Reisovaya Street; building 4A) on the second floor there is “Dining Room No. 1”. Formally, it also works until 8 pm, but in fact - until the last client, because the owner, who lives in the same house, is more profitable to sell all the prepared food rather than throw it away in the evening (that is, they won’t feed you yesterday’s food here). For three hundred rubles you can eat salad, soup, main course and compote.
Even if you come here and kiss the door, the journey will still not be in vain: in the next building there is a cafe-bar “Corona” (the prices here are already higher, they are average city, but still not airport), which is open until midnight, and then up to an hour or two. There is also alcohol here. In addition, there is a 24-hour Doner Kebab stall and two 24-hour grocery stores, so you won’t die of hunger even during an overnight layover.
Grenkipub, owned by Shokoladnitsa, is only available in Vnukovo in Moscow.
At the airport itself, above the check-in area on the third floor, there is a canteen of the Mu-Mu chain with traditional Russian food. True, if you like to go to Mu-Mu in Moscow, then Vnukovskoye may disappoint you with less tasty food and higher prices; in terms of price-quality ratio, in general, not the best option. There is also the “Air Buffet”: a decent canteen where mid-level airport management eats. Also on departure there is a grill bar Just, Orient Express on the third floor, two pubs and two “Kroshki-potatoes” (on the third floor on the right, next to Orient Express) and on the second floor on the left, where the boarding passage for domestic lines is.
In the sterile area of domestic flights, that is, after security control, there is a guaranteed edible and inexpensive Burger King, an always empty Shokoladnitsa, as well as its own beer restaurant Grenkipub (essentially the same canteen, only with beer). In the sterile area of international flights there are two “Chocolate bars”, a Heineken bar with a canteen-type cafe in the same room, a “Burger King”, “Zyu cafe” and “Mu-Mu”.
Finding the “Chocolate Girl” and “Toast” is important even if you don’t reasonably plan to fill yourself with beer before the flight. The fact is that next to them are the only electrical outlets available in the entire waiting room, from which you can charge your phone or laptop (by the way, be prepared for the fact that free Wi-Fi may or may not work). Another outlet lurked forlornly near the toilets. By the way, there is no point in standing in line for the toilet near Burger King - in the area of exit 15 you can do the same thing without a waiting area.
By the way, about toilets. In the public part of the terminal, there is a toilet on level -1 (where Aeroexpress is) on the left, and on levels 1, 2 and 3 all toilets are at the right end of the terminal. The toilet on the left on the 2nd floor (where the boarding passage) is very small. Strictly speaking, it should generally belong to the area after passport control, but for now it is in the general area.
The fact is that now the left wing of Terminal A with two more check-in islands is missing, and there should be three more toilets on each level on the left. But the wing has not yet been built, so there are not enough toilets on the left side of the public area.

Hidden among the shops is an inconspicuous entrance to a business lounge, where, as expected, there are few people. Comfortable sofas and tables, there is even a former smoking room where you can sleep, but lovers of free alcohol will have to be upset: it’s very difficult to find it here, and the only hot food is broth. However, even without it, the hall is simply several orders of magnitude more pleasant than the Sheremetyevo “classics”, although in the evenings there are now a lot of people here too.
And since we’re talking about shops: in the internal zone they all have the word Duty in their names for a reason, which should hint to an inexperienced passenger from the regions about Duty-Free duty-free shops. Of course, in reality there is no duty-free trade; stores operate according to the Duty-Paid concept: the same operator as Duty-Free, approximately the same assortment, but customs duties have been paid. That is, all these clothes, toys and perfumes are sold at traditional airport prices, that is, slightly higher than the market average.
The airport terminal complex consists of three passenger terminals, which are designated by the letters A, B and D. A VIP lounge is located in a separate building.
The check-in counters are assigned to the airlines, with representative offices of all major companies located next to them.
For transit passengers there is a separate corridor “Transit without luggage”.
A special feature of the airport: the unloading of luggage and its feeding onto the belt can be observed on the board in the halls.
Terminal A works with domestic and domestic flights.
You can enter the terminal from the underground Aeroexpress station or through the arrivals area from ground level.
On the ground floor there is a ground level entrance and exit and baggage claim areas.
To check in for a flight, you need to go up to the second floor of the terminal, where check-in counters, passport control, boarding gates, and the entrance from the overpass are located.
On the third floor of the terminal there is a VIP lounge, airline offices, a business lounge for international lines, and a variety of cafes.
Terminal IN operates charter flights and scheduled international flights.
Terminal B can only be entered from ground level. There is no entrance to the terminal from the overpass.
Customs control and check-in counters are located on the ground floor of the terminal.

Terminal D Currently, it is partially not in operation, it works only to receive domestic flights from cities in the North Caucasus region.
Both entry and exit from the terminal D carried out only through the terminal B.

The airport's VIP service lounge is located in a separate building.

How to get there
Aeroexpress schedule
Aeroexpress trains to Vnukovo airport from Moscow depart from the Kievsky railway station (entrance from the first entrance, a separate entrance with the inscription “Aeroexpress” is located opposite the Evropeisky shopping center). The first flights from Moscow and the airport leave at 06:00 in the morning, the last express train leaves at 12 at night. Travel time is 35-40 minutes. Aeroexpress trains arrive in Vnukovo at the underground railway station, which is connected to terminal A. If you need to go to terminals B and D, you need to exit the station onto the street, turn left and walk under the overpass along the line of terminals following the signs.
From Vnukovo Airport to Moscow: the entrance to the station is located within walking distance from terminals A, B, D.
In Terminal A, to enter the Aeroexpress station, you need to take the elevator or escalator to the “0” floor. Follow the signs.

Residents of Moscow and regions located north of the city need to get to Vnukovo Airport from the Moscow Ring Road. There are route options along Minskoye, Borovskoye and Kievskoye highways. When traveling to the airport from the south, from Kaluga and the region, it is more profitable to travel along the Kyiv highway, and from Smolensk along the Minsk highway.
