Coral Bay Beach, Cyprus (Coral Bay). Coral Bay (Coral Bay) What are functional cookies

Coral Bay Beach is the pearl of the Paphos resort. It won the hearts of tourists with its soft dark-golden sand, clear and calm water, and a smooth increase in depth. It is loved for the lush palm trees growing along the coast, gentle hills with beautiful views, cozy cafes and good infrastructure. This place also has the following advantages:

  • Coral Bay has repeatedly received the Blue Flag award for its impeccable cleanliness throughout the entire area;
  • there are ideal conditions for children and beginner swimmers. Namely: shallow and warm sea, continuous duty of rescuers, absence of underwater currents;
  • there is a soft seabed on which you can walk barefoot.

Coral Bay fills with tourists at 9-10 am. If you want to take a sunbed right by the sea, come early. Otherwise, you will have to settle for a place on the periphery.

Beach guests are offered a variety of activities. Including water skiing, banana and tablet swims, surfing and windsurfing. The sea cliffs of Coral Bay are popular among fans of diving and snorkeling. Boat excursions are also offered here.

Interesting fact: every year several tons of first-class sand are imported to Coral Bay. Initially, this beach was covered with pebbles.

When is the best time to go?

The holiday season begins in Cyprus at the end of April, when the water in the sea warms up enough so that it is not cold to swim in it. June is the most comfortable month for relaxation: the temperature is pleasant, up to 26 to 30 degrees, the sea breeze refreshes and tones. In July-August the island becomes too stuffy and hot, but in September-October comfortable conditions return.

Coral Bay is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the west coast of Cyprus.

Coral Bay is located in the southwestern part of the municipality of Peyia and is part of it. Peyia itself (Pegeia or Peyia) is located mainly on the steep slopes of the coastal hills at the southern end of the Akamas Peninsula in the Paphos region. Among the residents of Peyia there are many expats from the UK.

The tourist area of Peyia is Coral Bay, located near the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and consisting of two Blue Flag beaches and a coastal tourist area.

Beaches of Coral Bay

Lifeguards with life-saving equipment and first aid services are on the beaches from April 15 to October 31, from 11:00 to 17:30. There are parking lots for cars above the beach stripes.

The main beach of Coral Bay bears the same name -

Coral Bay Beach

Coral Bay Beach is considered one of the best beaches in the Paphos area. Also included in the TOP list of the best beaches on the west coast of Cyprus for families with children.

The most comfortable part of the beach is about 600 meters long, while the part of the Coral Bay coast suitable for swimming reaches 1 kilometer. The beach is mostly sand, fine and pleasant to the touch, the entry into the sea is gentle.

The beach has a crescent shape and is surrounded on both sides by limestone capes, which makes the beach more picturesque and the sea water in the bay calm and favorable for swimming.

During the high beach season, the Coral Bay beach has all the necessary infrastructure: sun loungers and a sun umbrella, changing rooms and rescue towers, toilets and showers, trash cans and wooden flooring for ease of movement, and a designated area for water activities.

The second, but no less attractive, beach of Coral Bay is

Lauru Beach

Laourou Beach, also known as Corallia Beach, is located north along the coast from Coral Bay Beach. These two beaches are separated by a small limestone cape, on which there are a couple of hotels and one of the attractions of Coral Bay - the Museum of the Mycenaean Colonization of Cyprus Maa - Palaiokastro.

Lauru Beach has mostly fine sand that is pleasant to the touch. The color of the sand ranges from yellow to gray. The beach is cleaned regularly. However, on the beach you can see natural debris (algae) and small household waste (cigarette butts, bottle caps).

The entry into the sea is sandy and gentle, the depth does not set in immediately, which makes this beach a good place to relax with small children.

The beach also has all the necessary infrastructure. There is a restaurant, cafe and shop, a pier and a water entertainment agency.

Other beaches and coast of Coral Bay

In the wider Coral Bay area there is another beach called Community Beach of Kissonerga or Potima, located south of Coral Bay Beach and bordering the village of Kissonerga. However, this beach is not so popular among tourists. The beach is open, so there are often waves on the beach.

On the beach there are pebbles mixed with sand. The beach is equipped only in places; at the very beginning of the beach there are sun loungers and parasols, a sports ground, changing rooms, showers and toilets.

The rest of the coast, north and south of Coral Bay, is characterized primarily by rocky headlands and sea caves.

The main tourist street of Coral Bay

The most developed tourist part of Coral Bay is located near the street of the same name, Coral Bay Avenue, starting approximately from the Crown Resorts Horizon Hotel and to the ring in the southern part of the street. It is here, along the street, that there are cafes and restaurants, shops and souvenir shops, tour agencies and other places of leisure. There is also a small amusement park and mini golf (Ithaki Amusement park and MiniGolf), and nearby there is a karting center (Coral Bay Karting).

Aphrodite's Stone (Petra tou Romiou)

Aphrodite's Stone or Aphrodite's Rock (Rock Aphrodite) is a legendary rock, one of the main and most visited attractions on the west coast of Cyprus.

Aphrodite's Rock is located south along the coast from the center of Paphos.

Several legends are associated with the Aphrodite stone, the essence of which boils down to one thing - this stone is the birthplace of a beautiful maiden who emerged from the sea foam - the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite.

Next to Aphrodite's stone is the Aphrodite Beach of the same name. Aphrodite Beach is pebbly and has the shape of a small bay. The sea in this area usually has strong waves, so locals warn tourists to swim in it. Coral Bay Beach in Paphos, (Paphos, Cyprus) - location, description, opening hours, entertainment and infrastructure. Useful tips and practical information from “Subtleties of Tourism”.

  • Tours for May to Cyprus
  • Last minute tours Worldwide

The Cypriot city of Paphos and its surroundings are famous for their beaches. Most of them are pebbly or mixed with shell rock. And just 20 minutes drive from Paphos, near the town of Peyia, inside a small bay there is a sandy Coral Bay beach. It is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful and popular on the Cypriot coast.

The beach stretches more than 600 meters in length, has a width of up to 40 meters and is framed by 2 capes. The sea near the shore is always calm, entry into the water is smooth, without sudden changes in depth, which makes it an ideal place for families with children.

An interesting feature of the beach is the imported sand, since the “native” sand is gradually washed out by the waves into the open sea.

Entertainment for everyone

For lovers of water activities, rental of water boats, inflatable slides, banana rides, water skiing and towed parachute flights are organized. There is a beach volleyball court. There is a snorkeling area near the beach for divers. During the swimming season, a rescue service is constantly on duty on the shore.

The beach is equipped with a spacious parking lot, toilets, changing cabins and even massage rooms. So it is not surprising that in terms of level of amenities it is in the top of the Cypriot coasts.

For those who want to quench their thirst and have a snack during the day, bars are open with simple but very tasty dishes and drinks. As recognition of compliance with environmental standards and safety levels, the beach was awarded a Blue Flag certificate.

On the Maa Peninsula adjacent to Coral Bay there is an archaeological museum, the collection of which is dedicated to the ancient Mycean culture.

Practical information

Entry to Coral Bay Beach is free. For the use of a standard set consisting of 2 sun loungers and one parasol, you will have to pay 8 EUR. Prices on the page are as of September 2018.

How to get there: by route bus No. 615 or 15 from Paphos to the final stop “Coral Bay”. The cost of a one-way ticket is 1.5 EUR.

Coral Bay Beach, among its surroundings, is the most visited beach on the West Coast of Cyprus. Also in the resort area, this beach is considered one of the best beaches for families with children of all ages.

The popularity of Coral Bay beach among tourists and residents of Paphos is due to the fact that the shore of the beach is covered with exceptionally fine and soft, light yellow sand with a reddish tint - most beaches in the tourist area have a mixed coating of sand, shell rock or pebbles, which may not be the best comfortable. The shore of Coral Bay is clean sand, which is comfortable to relax on and fun for children to play with. Sand is brought to Coral Bay from other places, and since the sea washes it out over time, the beach is completely “renewed” about once every 20 years.

Hotels near Coral Bay Beach:

Coral Beach Hotel & Resort 5* (500 meters north)
Crown Resorts Horizon 4* (530 meters east →)
Ascos Coral Beach Hotel 4* (1000 meters east →)

Also, the advantage of Coral Bay beach is the seabed - it is also sandy (there are several underwater rocks, but they are quite large and, as a rule, protrude above the surface of the sea, so it is difficult not to notice them), shallow, with a convenient entrance to the water and a gentle slope depth, which makes swimming here the most optimal and safe for children. The beach itself is located inside a cozy bay, which is surrounded on the right and left sides by the protruding high, rocky peninsula of Maa-Paleokastro and the cape, which extend far into the sea. And beyond the coastal zone, Coral Bay beach is covered by a hill.

Thanks to natural barriers, comfortable weather conditions are maintained on the Coral Bay beach, and the water in the sea is usually 3 to 5 degrees warmer than on the beaches within. Although the beach water area is provided with natural protection from waves, there can still be small waves here. The only feature of Coral Bay Beach that can cause discomfort is the dark algae in both the water and on the beach - although they are cleaned daily.

Also, Coral Bay is not inferior to other famous ones in terms of amenities, comfort and infrastructure. The beach is marked with a Blue Flag certificate, there are beach equipment rentals, changing cabins, fresh water showers and foot washing fountains, sanitary areas; A rescue team is on duty during the day. There are also massage rooms on the Coral Bay beach - small tents, in the shade of which and in the fresh air you can relax while enjoying a massage procedure.

The shore of Coral Bay beach is about a kilometer long and 10 to 40 meters wide; At the same time, the length of the main bathing area, which is most prepared for receiving vacationers, is about 600 meters. Due to the high popularity of the beach (often the beach is almost completely filled with visitors), there is a fairly large number of recreational facilities - as a rule, these are two plastic folding sun loungers and a sun umbrella, while pairs of sun loungers are located at a sufficient distance from each other so as not to crowd visitors. At the same time, vacationers can easily stay away from the main bathing area, where it will be more spacious and quieter. Also, the popularity of Coral Bay beach is due to the prices for beach services and the prices in the cafes closest to it - they are slightly higher than the average prices for services and services of beaches located within the city.

You can quench your hunger and thirst in beach bars “ Namos Beach Bar“, located closer to the Maa Peninsula, in the northern part of the beach, and “ Paradise Beach Bar Coral Bay”at the opposite end of the beach. These are very simple establishments where you can buy the same simple local dishes and drinks. In the evening, these same bars hold beach parties on the shore. Connoisseurs of fine and exotic cuisine can visit restaurants serving Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisine.” Gold Temple Chinese & Indian Restaurant Coral Bay" And " Samisen Japanese Restaurant” respectively, located literally a five-minute walk from the beach.

The entertainment sector is also quite widely represented on Coral Bay beach, mainly provided by the “Coral Bay Watersports” center - here you can rent water equipment, go water skiing or ride a parachute towed by a speed boat. There are also children's water activities: inflatable pontoon slides, banana rides. The “Namos Beach Bar” has a small court for playing beach volleyball, but there are places for vacationers around the court, so playing on it may be inconvenient for both the players themselves and tourists relaxing on neighboring sun loungers.

Right next to the beach, before entering the peninsula, there is a 5-star luxury hotel “Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa”, and a little further there is another hotel “Coral Beach Hotel & Resort”, similar in terms of quality of services ( facebook page). Part of these hotels is also very similar to the Coral Bay beach - the beach “ Corallia Beach". This beach is municipal and, if, for example, there is no suitable place on Coral Bay, everyone can visit it.

Closer to the edge of the Maa-Paleokastro peninsula there is the Mycenaean settlement of Cyprus Museum and an active archaeological site. This very small museum was built on the site of excavations of an ancient settlement of the Mycenaean Greeks, who found refuge in Cyprus after the fall of the Mycenaean kingdom. The settlement arose in the 12th century BC and existed until 1150 BC. The museum's exhibition presents archaeological finds (mostly copies of them) made at the excavation site. Basically, more than the museum's exposition, tourists are interested in the unusual design of its building, which from the outside looks more like a landed UFO, and around which you can take wonderful and funny photographs.

Coral Bay is located twelve kilometers north of the center of Paphos, near the small town
