Port El Kantaoui resort in Tunisia. El Kantaoui Center – Reviews Holidays in Tunisia Port El Kantaoui

Port of El Kantaoui is an elite resort in the suburbs of Sousse. In this area on the coastline there are 4* and 5* hotels with their own beaches, the best golf courses and equestrian clubs. In El Kantaoui there is a yacht port of the same name, where there are many souvenir shops, a mini zoo, a singing fountain show, an amusement park, cafes and restaurants.

How to get to Port El Kantaoui?

The distance from Sousse to Port El Kantaoui is about 8 km. You can get there inexpensively by train (about 5 dinars ≈ 120 rubles), bus (1.5 dinars ≈ 35 rubles) or by metered taxi (about 10 dinars ≈ 240 rubles). The fixed price for a taxi can be negotiated by 1.5-2 times. Please refer to the approximate prices above. I already told you about our hotel Bellevue Park where we stayed. It is located near Port El Kantaoui. The port is only 3 km from the hotel.

I specifically chose a secluded hotel close to the port so I could go on promenades. Like real travelers, we went to the port on foot. Moreover, for Eva, walking in a stroller is another reason to stare and explore the world around her. I’ll say right away that there is no normal sidewalk for strollers. There is a special road either for cyclists or for horse-drawn carriages - a local attraction for tourists (see photo). And at one point it ends, and then a sidewalk begins, paved with paving stones all the way to the port. In the port, the road is also paved with paving stones, so wearing heels and strollers is no problem.

What to see in Port El Kantaoui?

The port itself is small and cozy, shaped like a semicircle. You can walk around the whole place in 15-20 minutes. The marina can accommodate more than 300 yachts and boats. The port is relatively young. An artificial harbor and marina for yachts were built in 1979. Therefore, there are no ancient monuments or iconic landmarks in Port El Kantaoui. It’s just a pleasure to spend time here, go to fish restaurants and souvenir shops. Be careful, prices can be steep! If you are staying in Sousse, it is better to buy gifts there.

From the port you can go on a sea excursion on a pirate ship or on a boat with a transparent bottom . But the sea here is not like in Egypt, it is not crystal clear. Therefore, a trip on a boat with a transparent bottom is money down the drain. For lovers of water diving, the port has diving clubs . By the way, it was from here that the next day we went diving. For an active family holiday, you can go to Aqua Palace water park , located near the entrance to the harbor. This is one of the best water parks in Tunisia. We didn’t go, it’s still too early for Eva, but we took her diving with us. No seasickness was detected :)

Popular water Dancing Fountains show located near the coast. From the entrance to the port you need to go straight. Crowds of tourists flock there, so it’s difficult to get lost. The show is especially wonderful in the evening. Dancing fountains are located in a small park where you can relax and spend time before the music show starts in the cafe.

Souvenirs and shops

Port El Kantaoui is a large area of souvenir shops. Souvenirs for every taste and budget are presented both in the marina itself and along the way from the hotels. You definitely won’t have any problems with gifts for your loved ones. The assortment is the same as everywhere else in resort towns: natural cosmetics, local products, crafts and figurines, magnets and other small items. There are no large shopping centers here. As I already said, for real shopping it is better to go to Sousse.

At the entrance to the ar the port cu is on the right Generale store . Heunnoticed, we first passed by. There is no Generale inscription on the sign, but there is a logo of 3 petals: yellow, orange and green and the inscription GM. You can buy the product heres, traditional sweets (halva, dates, Turkish delight), alcohol. We were looking for baby food, namely porridge in bags, but we only found purees. The prices are a little high, but quite humane. The store is closed on Fridays. If you don't collectIf you go to Sousse and on other excursions with a visit to the capital of Tunisia, it is better to buy everything here.

Cafes and restaurants

Most cafes and restaurants are located near the entrance to the port and in the harbor itself. Naturally, their specialty is seafood and fish dishes and national Tunisian cuisine. Prices are approximately the same everywhere. 20-25 dinars (≈500 rub.) for main courses, about 8 dinars (≈200 rub.) for 100 grams of fish, prepared according to your choice. There is Italian and Mediterranean cuisine and everyone's favorite fast food.

A must-try in Port El Kantaoui is to drink green tea with pine nuts at the Sidi El Kantaoui cafe . The cafe is located on the street perpendicular to the entrance to the port. There are several open terraces, a large selection of hookahs and a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.

Do you have any favorite places in Tunisia? Where did you vacation and what can you recommend? For example, we did not visit Sousse. I really wanted to go for a walk in the medina, but we didn’t have any free days left to go to Sousse. Many more speak well of their holidays on the island of Djerba. So I already have 2 reasons to return to Tunisia. What did you like and dislike about Tunisia?

And you find yourself in an elite suburb - Port of El Kantaoui.

Let us immediately clarify that elite residential buildings of wealthy Tunisians were built in this area, which cannot be said about hotels. The standard of hotels in Port El Kantaoui is higher than in Sousse, but they are far from “elite”. However, the small number of high-quality hotels is a common problem throughout Tunisia.

A tourist zone was created here in the late 80s. The new port (capable of accommodating up to 500 yachts at a time) became the central place; hotels, amusement parks, a market were built to the north and south along the coast, and a wall imitating the Medina was reconstructed.

Most search engines classify hotels in this resort as belonging to the Sousse region. However, there are serious differences between resorts, so pay attention to this point when choosing a tour or booking a hotel.

Port of El Kantaoui

Resort Features:

  • the tourist infrastructure is very well developed (restaurants, cafes, amusement parks, shops, etc.);
  • the beaches are noticeably cleaner than in Sousse;
  • the hotel base is more diverse compared to Sousse;
  • there is entertainment for children and adults;
  • the resort is equidistant from the two main airports of arrival for organized tourists in Tunisia - Enfidha and Monastir (approximately 25 km).

Transport to Port El Kantaoui

If you are arriving at Port El Kantaoui via Enfidha Airport, the easiest way to get to the resort is by taxi or by booking a private transfer. If your arrival airport is Monastir or Tunis City, then besides a taxi you can consider other methods, but, in any case, you will first have to get to Sousse.

  • minibus taxis - luazhi (fare 1.5 TND)
  • taxi (fare on average 10 TND)
  • tourist trains and tuk-tuks (fare from 5 TND)

Port El Kantaoui Hotels

The resort's hotel base cannot be called very large, but the choice is much greater than in Sousse. There are hotels here that fully correspond to the 4* and 5* categories. Most of them are in need of renovation, but there are also new items. For example, Concorde Green Park Palace 5*- the hotel opened in 2016 after a major renovation.

The most budget hotel in Tunisia is also located here - Tergui Club 3*(formally considered in the zone Port of El Kantaoui, actually 5 km north in the area Shot Meriem).

Beaches in Port El Kantaoui

The beaches in this part of Tunisia are no fundamentally different from the beaches of other regions: they do not reach the level of the beaches of Mahdia or northern Hammamet, but are noticeably cleaner than the city beaches of Sousse: mostly with a wide beach strip, not so crowded, well equipped. The beaches north of the port (towards Shot Meriem) are noticeably cleaner.

Shopping in Port El Kantaoui

Large chain stores ( Carefour And Monoprix) not here, there is a store near the port Generale(the only place where you can buy alcohol). The bulk of the shops are souvenir shops and shops with fixed prices; for larger purchases you can go to Sousse.

Port El Kantaoui(Port El Kantaoui) is not a harbor at all, as it seems at first glance, but a small tourist complex 10 kilometers north of the center of Tunisia.

The resort was built on practically empty land in 1979. The architects sought to “age” this city as much as possible and give it the most natural look, so all the buildings here are designed in the traditional Tunisian style and built of white stone, and the streets, by modern standards, are excessively narrowed. The area around the port is stylized as a fishing village, gradually turning into a medina.

Tourists who have visited many of the truly ancient cities of Tunisia find Port El Kantaoui “artificial, soulless and lifeless.”

Overall this is typical Tunisian town with restaurants, cafes, hammams (baths) and shops. It is especially popular among “package” tourists, families with children and those traveling to Tunisia for the first time.

In Port El Kantaoui you can get there in 1 hour 45 minutes from Tunis airport or in 30 minutes from.

What's here:
Harbor. The large artificial port can accommodate 340 luxury yachts at the same time. You can see especially many of them here in winter, when they are transferred here to their “parking lot” from colder countries.

Golf. Many people choose this rather secluded tourist area precisely because it has excellent golf courses. The golf club appeared in Port El Kantaoui in 1979 - simultaneously with the creation of the entire tourist complex. Its construction was carried out under the leadership of the American Ronald Fream, who also built two similar fields in Hammamet. The golf club has everything you need: bar, restaurant, shop, workshop, electric cars, etc. There is also a dedicated field for beginners and private or group training is available.

There are two main golf courses: “Panorama Course” (starts from a hill, has 18 holes, is considered more difficult) and “Sea Course” (starts near the beach, has 18 holes).

Sports and entertainment. Port El Kantaoui is a great place for sports. Here you can scuba dive, water ski, windsurf, fish, or simply rent a boat and go out to sea to watch the dolphins. For those who don't like the water, there are 11 tennis courts, volleyball courts and even horse rentals. Those who want to thrill themselves can take part in a trip deep into the Sahara, visiting a Star Wars filming location and the home of a typical Berber family.
Port El Kantaoui also has a zoo, a Hannibal theme park and a musical fountain.

Dancing fountains of El Kantaoui

Dancing Fountains is a popular water show taking place in the tourist complex of Port El Kantaoui, on the south-eastern coast of Tunisia.

The Dancing Fountains of El Kantaoui are a vast complex of musical fountains, whose jets dynamically change to the beat of the sounding melody. The show program starts several times a day, and each time it is different. Music starts playing, colorful lights light up, and the water show begins. This spectacle looks especially fabulous at night, when there is no natural light, and the beauty of the fountains is revealed to the maximum.

The first, 6,127 meters long, is designed for 72 pars and 18 holes, and the second, 6,409 meters long, has the same number of pars and holes.

The construction of the golf club was carried out under the leadership of Ronald Freem, an American who built two similar clubs in Hammamet. There is a bar, restaurant, workshop, shop, as well as a special golf course for beginners.

Amusement park Hannibal Park

In 2003, a new roller coaster was installed here, which became popular all over the world.

The park itself was built in the style of old Carthage from the time of Hannibal. The territory has good restaurants and cafes, magnificent fountains and flowering gardens. At the entrance to the main building there is a Carthaginian soldier with whom you can take a photo. There is a mini club inside the building where children can play Lego or draw for free.
