Eva Cavalli is an inexhaustible source of love. Roberto Cavalli - history of the Roberto Cavalli brand: training

In the world of high fashion, Roberto Cavalli is known as a man who knows how to transform rough, everyday materials into unique haute couture chic. This designer began his career by hand-painting T-shirts, which he then sold to vacationers in Saint-Tropez and the Cote d'Azur. Today he owns a $150 million-a-year company that claims the fame of Versace himself.

The path to the heights of success for Cavalli was long and tedious. But he always knew that this was his path. The example of his grandfather, the famous impressionist Giuseppe Rossi, helped him overcome difficulties. It was from him that Roberto inherited his talent (some argue that he also borrowed ideas for clothing designs from his famous ancestor).

Perhaps Roberto learned this perception of the world from his homeland - beautiful and sensual Tuscany. He was born on November 15, 1940 in Florence, into a family that was not very wealthy, but free and creative. His maternal grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was at one time a famous impressionist; his works are in the Uffizi Gallery. The father of the future famous designer also worked on the artistic path, and his mother was a seamstress. Following family tradition, Roberto entered the world famous Academy of Arts in Florence. Listening to lectures on theory and taking practical classes with famous masters, ambitious Roberto begins experiments. T-shirts were the first to come to hand, and he decorated them with all kinds of prints, freely interpreting color combinations and textures. But even this reeked of a tired classic: Cavalli turned his gaze to the skin. This material will generally become iconic for the Florentine - it will transform the leather from a rough robe and military uniform into a flowing, unrecognizably luxurious garment... For the first time, he will decorate the leather with prints, thanks to modern dressing technologies, he will allow himself a modern cut, many details and will be able to combine paradoxically different fabrics. .. He will put a second skin on a fashionista - and it is unlikely that the second will be noticeably inferior to the first.

Based on these ideas, in the early 60s, Roberto Cavalli opened his own production and presented his first collection: many prints, many memories, an absolutely unformatted alliance - denim and soft leather. Naturally, a sensation, naturally, a mega-success. True, success with a scandalous tint. Cavalli is perceived rather as a curiosity, as an eccentric, talented but strange. To wear his clothes is to admit your eccentricity... When the French film star Brigitte Bardot appeared barefoot on the elite beach of Saint-Tropez in one of Cavalli's outfits, an unimaginable excitement arose around his name. But... everything is too much: too avant-garde, too scandalous, too, too, too... Cavalli remained in the shadow of the great couturiers of that time.

While still a student at the Florence Academy of Arts, Cavalli began to realize his dream - to become a “fashion artist” (this is what the fashion designer calls himself). “With my fashion, I want to take people beyond the boring and banal perception of modern clothing,” said the young designer. He succeeded perfectly in 1972 during a show at the Florentine Palazzo Pitti, when suits, trousers and even evening dresses made of denim, which had previously been used only for sewing work clothes, appeared on the catwalk. Cavalli's originality served him well: the fashion designer was noticed. Roberto constantly experimented with materials and colors, as a result of which he gained fame as an innovator in the fashion world. It was he who invented the famous patchwork technique, developed a new technique for laser drawing, and proved that leather can be used to sew not only sports jackets, but also luxurious, stylish outfits. He added the rays of the African sun and the colors of the tropical forest to fashion and created a unique image of the Cavalli woman - a freedom-loving predator, whose wild, pristine sexuality becomes even brighter when framed by clothes made of snake skin, animal skins and bird feathers. “The source of my inspiration is nature. No designer can compare with her,” says the fashion designer.

His collections are sexy down to the last thread, so much so that the air crackles with electricity at the shows. His woman is a wild cat, vicious and exquisite, so luxurious that it makes men dizzy. He says he has never met any ugly women. He doesn't believe high fashion is dead. He is Roberto Cavalli.

And in the mid-nineties, a breakthrough occurred: in the new collection from Cavalli there were coats richly decorated with crystals, rhinestones, prints in the form of animal skins and a new item - “aged” leather. The most famous and beautiful women in the world, without saying a word, purchase items from this line; there is even a shortage - demand exceeds supply...

Cavalli decides to take a revolutionary step: he promotes his style to all categories of buyers. So, in the shortest possible time a men's line appeared, then the brand Just Cavalli, aimed at the middle class and enjoying great success to this day, the Freedom collection in casual style, its continuation - Angels.

In 1999, Roberto opens a huge boutique in New York on Madison Avenue, which is visited by everyone - movie stars, famous musicians, and just rich and famous people...

Exotic motifs appealed to the public, who by that time were already tired of boring minimalism. Following the Europeans, the Americans also appreciated Cavalli’s talent. The couturier's client list gradually began to include such names as Madonna, Britney Spears, Cindy Crawford, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Tina Turner, Halle Barry, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elton John, Cher, Leni Kravitz, Jon Bon Jovi and Bono. The irrepressible Roberto constantly found new areas of application of his talent. The products produced by the Cavalli house also include lines of underwear, swimsuits, glasses, bags, watches, shoes, household goods, as well as children's clothing - Roberto Cavalli Angels for girls and Roberto Cavalli Devils for boys.

And then there was the Cavalli Jeans line - and a wave of recognition throughout the world. Even America, the birthplace of jeans, accepted the Italian as their own. In 2002, Fashion Group International proclaimed Roberto Cavalli Designer of the Year, and the couturier himself was actively developing other areas of his own business: opening restaurants, a confectionery factory, launching the first Roberto Cavalli Parfum, and also creating a collection of items for interior design.

The chain of Cavalli boutiques is growing all over the world. They already exist in almost all capitals of the world. The famous designer supports young talents (for example, the young fashion designer Veronica Janvi from Ukraine).

But the personal life of the temperamental Florentine is not at all as pretentious as his outfits. He has been married for many years (since 1978) to a beautiful woman, Eva Dühringer, who is also his business partner. They met at the Miss Universe competition, where Cavalli was a member of the jury, and Eva was a contestant from Austria...

2002 was marked by the creation of the unique women's fragrance Roberto Cavalli, and in 2003 the men's perfume Cavalli Man appeared.

Cavalli managed not only to come up with a fashion brand - he created a new lifestyle, the uniqueness of which lies in the fact that it appeals to both teenagers, who happily flaunt clothes from the Just Cavalli youth line, and respectable business women. This is not surprising, because, according to the designer, Roberto Cavalli is “fashion for those who are young at heart and feel young at any age.”

(Roberto Cavalli)- world famous Italian, founder of the fashion house Roberto Cavalli. He became famous for his unique style, characterized by vibrant exotic and animal prints on clothes, as well as the creation of sandblasted jeans.

Biography

Born in Florence (Tuscany) on November 15, 1940, in the family of surveyor Giorgio Cavalli and dressmaker-designer Marcella Cavalli (maiden name Rossi). Roberto's grandfather, the famous impressionist painter Giuseppe Rossi, was a member of the Macchiaioli Movement. It was under his influence that after graduating from school, Cavalli decided to enter the Florence Art Academy, where he focused on studying textiles and the technology of printing on them. Being one of the best students of the Academy, he created a series of floral designs, which attracted the interest of large factories in Italy producing hosiery.

Perhaps Cavalli's life would have turned out completely differently if not for the difficulties he had to go through as a child. When Roberto was a child, his father was killed by the Nazis. This loss greatly affected the entire Cavalli family and little Roberto in particular. He developed into an introvert and only started talking at the age of 10. Only frequent contacts with his talented grandfather, with whom Roberto was very close, brought inspiration to the boy and helped him to open up.

His mother also had a great influence on Cavalli. From an early age, he helped her in the process of sewing clothes, thanks to which he realized that he wanted to work in fashion and design. After long and hard work, in 1957 he managed to break into the very heart of Italian art and painting - Florence. Making great progress in his studies, he never stopped experimenting, coming up with different ways to dye fabric. At the age of 20, within the walls of the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, Cavalli first began to try coloring skin.

Career

Cavalli began his career in 1960 creating prints for an Italian knitting company. Then, that same year, he founded a company selling printed T-shirts and leather goods. For some time he worked at the fashion house of Mario Valentino.

In the early 70s, Cavalli invented and patented a revolutionary leather printing system that allowed it to be dyed in six different colors. Having become a pioneer in this matter, he began to practice his invention in Paris, where it instantly became a success with fashion houses such as Pierre Cardin, from which he received commissions.

At the age of 30, at the Pret-a-Porter salon in Paris, Cavalli presented his first signature women's collection, consisting of printed jeans, leather and brocade clothing, and items with prints depicting animal skins. The collection's runway show took place later at Sala Bianca, Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Tight-fitting and bright items from Cavalli instantly became a hit with fashionistas, and one of the first celebrities to wear the designer's clothes was the French actress Brigitte Bardot. From that moment, Cavalli began to conquer France, opening his own in St. Tropez in 1972. The store sold outfits for disco lovers. In 1974, a men's clothing line was also opened, but it did not last long.

Later, Cavalli's style began to be compared to that of other Italian designers, including the early work of Cavalli, whose name became synonymous with the flamboyant extravagance of the 80s.

“One could easily say that Cavalli is the new Versace. But if Vercace were alive, it would be more correct to call him the new Cavalli."

- Evening Standard edition

Cavalli's feathered eveningwear, rhinestone-encrusted jeans and python trousers are a precursor to the rock 'n' roll style of Versace and Dolce & Gabbana.

Ruth La Ferla, New York Times

Like many other Italian fashion houses (for example, and), in the 80s they began to lose ground. Cavalli remained in Florence, but stopped showing his new autumn-winter and spring-summer collections at Milan Fashion Week, since at that time minimalism, which was then relevant, was triumphant in the fashion world. The designer refused to adapt his style and went into the shadows, becoming temporarily unknown. However, in 1985, Roberto Cavalli still staged a show at the notorious New York club Studio 54.

In the 90s, the designer's extreme creations were rediscovered by fashionistas around the world and helped Cavalli's clothes become the most desirable and relevant. It is worth noting that his wife and business partner, Eva Dühringer, helped the designer revive the brand. It was she who convinced her husband not to give up and direct his efforts to saving the business, which not only fed Cavalli and his family, but also became an integral part of the Italian’s life.

“At that time I thought that maybe it was worth closing the brand. But when Eva expressed interest in reviving Roberto Cavalli, I decided to give it a try for her sake.”

In 1994, while continuing to develop fabric processing techniques, Cavalli launched a line of stretch denim jeans, which brought the brand incredible success and significantly increased sales. A more elegant collection, shown in the same year and consisting of colorful, cropped ones with zebra prints, gained popularity among a wide audience of celebrity clients, whose age was sometimes equal to the age of the fashion house. Among the celebrities who fell in love with Roberto Cavalli outfits were pop singers Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera, famous football player David Beckham and rapper Sean "P Diddy" Combs.

“Celebrity connections are very important. They matter to me more than to anyone else because it makes me more important. Sometimes when you are in Italy you don't know how important you are outside of it. And significance is adrenaline, and it is this that gives rise to creativity.”

By December 1994, the designer opened brand boutiques in St. Barth, Venice and St. Tropez.

Clothing from Roberto Cavalli has also conquered a more important segment of the market, taking a strong place in the wardrobes of celebrities, from Madonna to Mary J. Blige. In addition, she became iconic and even appeared in the cult series Sex and the City. In one episode, Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, was forced to clean out her wardrobe to make room for her boyfriend's clothes. During a conflict with him, she shouted the phrase: “This dress is from Roberto Cavalli! I threw it away, but I love it! What more can you ask of me?

In the late 1990s, Roberto Cavalli began to seriously conquer the American market. Advertising for his brand began to appear in glossy magazines such as. Cavalli hired a team of managers to work with top US retailers that sold the Cavalli line (for example, Bergdorf Goodman).

Roberto Cavalli was one of the first designers to present fur clothing on the catwalk. He later became the target of harsh criticism because, in the opinion of many, his collections included too much fur.

In 1998, the Just Cavalli line was launched (previously it was called Cavalli Jeans), the target audience of which was young people. The line includes men's and women's clothing, underwear, eyewear, fragrances and beachwear. The designer also launched a clothing line for children, Angels&Devils.

In 1999, Roberto Cavalli again presented a redesigned line of men's clothing that had the same vibrant temperament and spirit as the women's line. He later commented on the fact that the first attempt to launch a men's collection in 1974 was unsuccessful:

“The collection was too feminine, too bright and artistic. She didn't make me happy at all. At the show, tall androgynous women walked the runway dressed in men's clothing, but in the end it was all in vain.”

At the same time, Cavalli continued to focus on the sophistication and elegance of the women's clothing he created:

“For a long time, designers have tried to dress women equally as men. I changed this trend. I try to emphasize with my clothes the feminine, sexy side that is present in every representative of the fair sex.”

In 1999, the luxurious Roberto Cavalli store opened on Madison Avenue, the most prestigious street in New York. The efforts put into organizing the work of this boutique paid off already in 2002, when sales of the brand tripled.

“My fashion became successful and relevant because other designers continued to produce monotonous things.”

Along with clothes and accessories, Roberto Cavalli began to design tableware, which is also distinguished by its extravagant and bright design.

In September 2002, the first Cavalli fragrance was released. In October in New York, Fashion Group International awarded Roberto Cavalli the title of “Designer of the Year”.

Also in 2002, the designer opened the first boutique cafe in Florence. This was followed by the opening of Just Cavalli café in Milan in 2003.

Roberto Cavalli's sales in the American market have become the most successful part of the business and were valued at $150 million in 2004. The designer plans further expansion in the North American market. His plans include opening another restaurant in New York and opening a boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. This will be the brand's 39th boutique in the world.

In 2005, Roberto Cavalli remade the famous rabbit's costume for.

However, despite the success of the business and the desire to expand it, Cavalli is reluctant to invest money in marketing, explaining this by the fact that he does not like to spend money on advertising:

November 2007 was marked by Roberto Cavalli's collaboration with a well-known mid-price brand. For this brand, Roberto created a women's line consisting of 25 items and a men's line of 20 items of clothing. The clothes were complemented by accessories and underwear, also designed by the designer. The main distinguishing features of the collection were zebra and leopard prints, fringe, beads, gold and black colors.

In 2008, the first Cavalli club opened its doors in Florence. During the same period, the designer softened his style and presented more romantic outfits made of chiffon and other light fabrics at the 2008 season shows.

In 2010, Roberto Cavalli celebrated 40 years of work in the fashion business and received the status of “Best of the Best Brand of Luxury Women's Clothing” (Luxury Brand Status Index “Best of Best”).

Fashion philosophy

After a long revision of his views, the designer announced two important components of the style of the Cavalli fashion house - woman and femininity. As a “fashion artist” (Cavalli asks to be called that), his work combines eroticism, sex appeal, street style and exciting chic. Cavalli has repeatedly stated that there is no single example of an ideal woman.

“I adore women. All women."

To this he also adds that a woman should have character, a strong personality and should never be afraid to be free. In an interview, he shared his opinion that beauty comes from within and is a reflection of the individuality of each person. He compares beauty to a business card, which helps at the first meeting, but is completely useless at the second.

Cavalli's designs are inspired by nature: butterflies, flowers, animals, the sky. Even in the designer's candy store, you can see chocolate in the shape of a zebra, elephant, parrot, tiger, snake... The snake is Roberto Cavalli's favorite animal. In his opinion, it grows and develops just like fashion. Later, the snake became a symbol of the Cavalli brand and fashion house. However, in addition to nature, the designer is inspired by people whom he accidentally meets on the streets, in parks, and nightclubs.

Important components of Cavalli's philosophy are naturalness, comfort and harmony. These elements help him maintain spontaneity in his work and not adhere to strict rules and frameworks. He is completely immersed in creativity, while his wife handles all the financial affairs of the company.

Cavalli and celebrities

Roberto Cavalli knows many celebrities and is also one of them. During the launch of Cavalli vodka, the ceremony was attended by famous musicians, movie stars, athletes and celebrities from the fashion world.

Celebrities who regularly wear Roberto Cavalli: Brigitte Bardot, Jade Jagger, Jennifer Lopez, Bono, Lenny Kravitz, Mary J. Blige, Ornella Muti, Elton John, Sex and the City actresses, Victoria Beckham, Christina Aguilera and Mark Anthony.

Personal life and other events

Roberto Cavalli's first wife was Silvanella Giannoni. Their marriage took place in 1964, and family life lasted 10 years, during which Cavalli and Gianoni had two children - Christiana (daughter) and Tommaso (son). In 1974, the couple divorced.

In 1977, during the Miss Universe beauty contest, at which the designer played the role of one of the jury members, Cavalli met one of the contenders for this title, Eva Dühringer. They began dating, and in 1980 Eva became the designer's wife, and later the mother of his three more children: Rachel (daughter), Daniel and Roberto (sons).

Roberto Cavalli and his family live in a luxurious villa in Florence, with a helipad and an outdoor jacuzzi. He and his wife own horses, their own vineyards and a chocolate factory. Cavalli pilots his own helicopter and speedboat. He also has three luxury Ferrari cars.

As many journalists have noted, Cavalli still looks the same as he did in the 1970s: he wears jeans unbuttoned to the waist and long hair.

In mid-2003, the designer appeared in court in Florence when Italian authorities accused him of tax evasion. This case was atypical for Italy, where tax laws take into account the possibility that taxpayers may hide their income and therefore include an additional percentage in the tax amount for possible fraud.

In 2003, Roberto Cavalli was also chosen as Grand Marshal of the New York City Columbus Parade. In the past, this role has been filled by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti. Cavalli was also the first in history to become a Parade Marshall. That same day, he wrote an article entitled “America La Bella,” an ode to America, which appeared in the Wall Street Journal:

“This country has given us every opportunity, and that is why I have always loved America. It accepts everyone who has the desire to build something.”

Roberto Cavalli is a very interesting person. He is a realist, but, in addition, he is an incredible romantic. He claims that love is the most important part of life, and sex can never compare in importance to it. Cavalli likes to give gifts, but does not like to receive them. His favorite writer is Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and his favorite fairy-tale character is Pinocchio. He only likes clothes that he creates himself, but claims that he likes many other designers and their work.

Cas Cavalli interview with Roberto Cavalli, Dazed and Confused magazine (November 2010)

K.K.:You've been designing for over 30 years and still continue to create clothes worn by the world's most glamorous people. Where do you get so much inspiration?
R.K.: At the very beginning of my career, I knew nothing at all about money. I thought I would create things and meet beautiful women and therefore be able to have fun. All my life I have been obsessed with having fun, and I think that is what continually inspires me.

K.K.: Now the Cavalli brand is a huge empire. Tell us how it all started?
R.K.: I had some very good ideas, and everything was built on them. For example, leather prints and recycled jeans, which were sold in my first store in St. Tropez in 1973. Each item was unique, beautiful, made using exclusive production techniques. I became successful so quickly that I held my first show at Sala Bianca in Florence with brands such as Armani, Versace and Missoni.

K.K.:How did it feel to achieve such success so early in your career?
R.K.: It was fantastic, but in those days being a designer meant something completely different from what it means now. Designers weren't as popular as rock stars. And the women of that time were different from the women of our days. When they bought a nice jacket, they tore off the label because they didn't want their friends to know where it was purchased.

K.K.:Do you think that over the entire period of your work in the industry you have seen many changes in it?
R.K.: Everything was slower back then, not as fast as it is now. Nowadays it has become more difficult to create something unique because everyone is chasing the number of sales. All this contradicts the concept of creativity.

K.K.: Your work became incredibly desirable in the early 90s. Everyone liked your clothes and celebrities wore them. How did this happen?
R.K.: In the early 90s I started experimenting with prints and denim, as well as stretch denim. I also made prints on very thin silks. I saw the beauty that could be created from this silk, and that’s when the stars began to come to me. I gradually became a red carpet designer. I think the stars realized that I could give them confidence in their sexuality. They realized that they could be incredibly sexy and beautiful at the same time.

K.K.:Have you always wanted to design clothes for celebrities?
R.K.: No, absolutely not. I am actually a very passive person, I take life day by day and this was not planned by me. When I first met Jennifer Lopez and Cindy Crawford, I was as excited as a little boy! And I became close to these people because they are like me, they also have a shy side. For example, Victoria Beckham. She's so shy. I remember the first time I walked on the podium with her. She was so nervous and squeezed my hand so tightly that I could feel her pulse.

K.K.: WITH Nowadays you are as famous as the people for whom you create clothes. How does it feel?
R.K.: I must say that to be famous you need to be a good actor. Don't think that all of us want to be famous all the time. I'd like to be famous seven days a month. We all - me, Jennifer, Victoria - sometimes retreat back, want to hide and keep something inside ourselves.

K.K.:You met your wife Eva in 1977, and since then she has been a huge part of your life as a designer. Can you call her your muse?
R.K.: Certainly. In the beginning, when I meet people and fall in love with them, they become my muses for a while. But she became my muse for many years, she still inspires me.

K.K.:How did she influence the Cavalli brand itself?
R.K.: Her zodiac sign is Libra and she is incredibly balanced. So Eva is very good at managing what I do. In a way it scares me because sometimes I think she knows more about the fashion business than I do.

K.K.:What do you see when you think about Cavalli's legacy, what imprint should this brand leave on the fashion industry?
R.K.: I think my taste sits very nicely on the border between sexy and vulgar. He is very sexy and chic, but sometimes he is so close to vulgarity that it becomes dangerous. I see women wearing my clothes completely wrong and it pisses me off. They wear it in a vulgar way. I want people to see that you can wear something and look incredibly sexy and balanced while still being chic.

Roberto Cavalli is a fashionable Italian designer, artist, restaurateur, owner of his own brand.

Roberto Cavalli was born on November 15, 1940 in Sunny (Firenze) into a family of Italian aristocrats.

Family

The boy's father Giorgio Cavalli worked as a mining engineer, and his mother Marcella Cavalli was engaged in tailoring. The grandfather, the mother's father, was the famous artist Giuseppe Rossi, he painted paintings in the impressionist style and was a member of the Macchiaioli group of artists. His paintings were exhibited in (Galleria degli Uffizi).

Having experienced a terrible tragedy in early childhood - the murder of his father by the Nazis - Roberto remained silent until he was 10 years old. Mother, son and daughter Lietta moved to her grandfather.

Marcella decided on a second marriage with merchant Rolando Fratini. But the chosen one turned out to be jealous, rude and often beat her, so by the age of 13 Roberto also lost his stepfather. The mother filed for divorce.

Showing talent

The future famous designer did not perceive school as something obligatory. He did not listen to teachers, skipped classes, and constantly received bad grades. His mother was very upset, and his grandfather was never particularly interested in his grandson’s successes and did not pay attention to him at all.

One day, out of boredom, Roberto took a pencil and, out of boredom, drew a portrait of Aunt Julianne, sitting opposite him. The grandfather, seeing this impulse, carefully examined the drawing, and then folded it and put it in his pocket. In 1951, Giuseppe died, leaving his entire inheritance to his 11-year-old grandson. This meant that he recognized the boy's talent.

But the young crop didn’t care. He was fascinated by bicycles, and later by girls and discos. At the age of 16, Roberto was expelled from school. The mother got angry with her son and told him to find a job. Only then did the young man commit his first serious act, he went to study at the Florence Art School to become a textile designer. Having completed his studies, he never received a diploma because he did not take the final exams, considering it unnecessary.

First implemented ideas

All that fascinated Roberto at that time was methods of dyeing fabric. He experimented a lot with dyes, was full of ideas and was the first to figure out how to dye a piece of leather.

Starting to work in a garage, the aspiring designer gradually acquired his own workshop and one day came to a conclusion. Instead of creating new fabrics, you can repaint the dull remnants of stale goods, applying colors to the sleeves, collars, and back.

Having bought the remains of unsold T-shirts, blouses and blouses from factories, the inventive young man began to implement his idea. The customers liked the idea so much that they swept away all the goods on offer.

Gradually, Roberto Cavalli's store gained regular customers. The business grew and developed, hired workers, printing tables and new steaming technologies appeared in the workshop. Now the fabrics were not stained when washed.

From now on, every day, step by step, Cavalli builds his future fashion empire. Hard work and passion for work lead to the fact that the name of the designer becomes known throughout the world.

Career

In 1960, Cavalli opened a small factory in Florence called Stampa Kavalli, where he experimented with prints on ready-made clothing.

In 1962, Roberto Cavalli's first store opened in Saint-Tropez. It turned out to be a strange boutique: sand on the floor, clothes scattered on the shelves, rock and roll at full volume and the smell of tobacco and hashish. There was no end to visitors.

In 1972, the first collection of Robert Cavalli was shown in Porte de Versailles in Paris. Clothes for women were made of leather, something like this had never been seen on catwalks before. Coats, dresses and jeans made from the designer's favorite material become the best-selling items in Europe and the States.

In 1994, Roberto Cavalli's collection was expanded with sandblasted jeans. He came up with the idea of introducing lycra thread into jeans.

In 1998, the designer created two more lines: Just Cavalli for youth and Roberto Cavalli for men.

In 2010, Cavalli celebrated his fortieth anniversary in haute couture circles at the School of Fine Arts in France. Many famous and wealthy personalities come to congratulate the designer.

The Cavalli brand produces: knitwear (Roberto Cavalli Class), outfits for girls (Angels) and boys (Devils), streetwear (Freedom), sports line (Roberto Cavalli Gym.), underwear, perfumes, bags, watches, wallpaper , tiles and other things. The brand's boutiques are located all over the world.

Brand difference

Leather models have become the hallmark of the brand. Roberto turned rough working material into soft, colorful and expensive. The designer offers his fans not only new clothing models, but also new technology for their production.

Laser designs, bright prints, decorations made of bird feathers, rhinestones, fur - all this makes the maestro’s masterpieces recognizable and unique. The extravagance, sexuality and glamor of Cavalli’s models captivate with their closeness to nature; designs copied from animal skins are present in all the designer’s collections.

Family and love affairs

The designer's first wife was the blue-eyed, brown-haired Silvanella Giannoni. She gave birth to his daughter Cristiana and son Tommy (Tommaso), becoming an exemplary homebody, as befits an Italian wife.

The explosive and lively Robert was tormented for a long time by the dissimilarity of characters, but divorce was only a matter of time. His first lover was Gloria Vanderpump. But the girl left without leaving coordinates after several nights spent together.

After his divorce from his first wife, a passion for Brigitte Bardot flared up in his heart, however, this beauty chose someone else over him.
The couturier's next passion was Hava Levi, they lived together for three years and the Israeli woman became pregnant by Cavalli, but decided to leave him and had an abortion.

In 1977, Roberto was conquered by 18-year-old Eva Maria Düringer, a participant in the Miss Universe contest. At that time, Cavalli was 40 years old. Realizing that this is love at first sight, the Italian offers the girl his hand and heart. Eva gave her husband three children: sons Danielle, son Roberto and daughter Rachel. Then she started doing business, promoting the family trend. It was thanks to Eva that Roberto’s business took off.

Over time, the relationship moved to another level, Cavalli again wanted variety and found himself a young passion - Lina Nelson. They did not hesitate to pose for photographers when they went on a yacht for a joint walk. Eva saw the photos on the Internet and sent her husband an email asking her to leave their house.

The famous Italian hates being called a fashion designer. He is an artist. The reason for this behavior lies in the fact that Cavalli does not accept homosexuality, and same-sex love accompanies most famous fashion designers.

Roberto considers the snake a symbol of good luck. Reptile skin trousers at the first show turned out to be a good solution, and since then the image of snakes has been found everywhere in the designer’s works: on perfume bottles, on shoes, on clothes, even Cavalli vodka is bottled in snake-shaped containers.

The Italian's great friend has long been the American actress Paris Hilton and her family. Roberto considers her not only a socialite, but also an interesting, creative person.

Cavalli does not promote healthy eating and does not follow diets. He is a gourmet, loves delicious, varied food, and especially loves the dish - Florentine steak (bistecca alla fiore).

Russian singer Philip Kirkorov has long claimed that he knows the designer and represents him in Russia. However, as a member of the jury at the Miss Europe competition in Kyiv, Cavalli told reporters that he did not know “such a woman,” which made them laugh a lot.

After 30 years of marriage with Eva, Roberto began dating Lina Nelson, who is 48 years younger than the maestro. Their joint photos on the designer's yacht spread all over the Internet.

Cavalli is not only a designer, but also a restaurateur. He owns the Just Cavalli Cafe and Cavalli Club restaurants in Florence. They are also nightclubs, cafes and bars at the same time. In addition, the lover of a beautiful life owns his own helicopter, a racehorse factory, three villas, a chocolate factory, and a yacht.

Cavalli's wife, Australian Eva Dühringer, is a former recognized beauty and model. In 1977, she was awarded the title of Miss Australia and Vice-Miss Universe, and reached the semi-finals of Miss World. In 1978, she was given the Miss Europe crown.

Quotes

  • « As predictable as it may sound, women inspire me the most! A woman is the most important thing in life... I fell in love, lost my head, went crazy. This is what allowed me to achieve such a feminine, expressive style of clothing. I have studied the female body in detail and know all its features, and therefore I can subtly play on them. Play with fire".
  • “Going beyond the norm is what success is, it’s when you do something special, unusual, sexy – because women like to feel sexy – and I want to help them be that way.”
  • “...I don’t deviate from my favorite prints, I use luxurious silks, natural fur, and reptile skin. Everything that makes a woman look like a queen.”

  • “In order to keep a man, beauty is not enough. A woman should be soft and strong at the same time, always different, and not lose the ability to surprise, despite the number of years spent together.”

On November 15, Italian designer Roberto Cavalli celebrates his 73rd birthday. The maestro is famous not only for his impeccable taste and style, but also for his very extraordinary actions and statements. We have prepared some interesting facts about the designer.

Roberto was born in Florence into the family of an artist. Since childhood, Cavalli was surrounded only by creative people, so he chose his profession when he was a very young guy. At the age of twenty, he already began a career in the fashion world and began experimenting with materials such as leather. However, only ten years later the designer managed to patent the most unusual invention - printing on leather. In 1972, Roberto opened his first boutique and organized a personal fashion show. At the end of the seventies, Cavalli got married, which was quite unexpected for a male designer, since everyone knows that most of them adhere to non-traditional sexual orientation. His wife Eva helps Cavalli in business and becomes a faithful assistant for many years.

In the mid-eighties, Cavalli was practically forgotten - new clothing brands appeared in Italy, and the popularity of this designer’s collections began to decline. However, Roberto did not give up and in 1994 he released a winter collection of coats with the effect of “aged” leather. Encouraged by the successful show, Cavalli begins to develop a men's line. Roberto achieved his greatest success in 2002, when he was named designer of the year. Currently, Cavalli owns a restaurant and produces perfume and clothing, as well as various accessories. Roberto is also known for his extraordinary actions and statements. Today we present the most interesting facts about the Italian designer.
1. Roberto did not buy the Prague restaurant in Moscow. At the end of 2010, it became known that the famous Prague restaurant was taken over by new owners. It was bought by businessman Umar Dzhabrailov and designer Roberto Cavalli for $450 million. “Prague” had not brought any income to the former owners for a long time; moreover, it was operating at a loss. In its place it was planned to open a new restaurant, Just Cavalli, but after some time it became known that the establishment remained the property of Telman Ismailov.

2. Roberto doesn't like homosexuals. When he is called a fashion designer, the maestro becomes furious and always repeats: “call me an artist.” According to Cavalli, people always associate the designer’s image with homosexuality, and Roberto doesn’t want people to think of him that way. He says that he is crazy about female beauty and always admires only ladies.

3. Cavalli always uses the snake sign in her outfits. The snake is the mascot of the Italian designer. Roberto is sure that this symbol brings him good luck. The trousers from the master's first collection were made of snakeskin, and they made Cavalli famous throughout the world. Since then, the snake symbol has adorned clothes, perfume bottles and shoes from Roberto Cavalli. By the way, the designer even has “vodka from Cavalli”, which is bottled in the shape of a snake.

According to him, there are so few joys in our lives that denying ourselves the pleasure of trying a delicious dish is simply stupid. Roberto's favorite thing is steak Florentine.

6. The designer did not recognize Philip Kirkorov. Several years ago, Cavalli came to Kyiv and was on the jury of the Miss Europe competition. At the press conference, Roberto talked a lot about fake jewelry and clothes, and when journalists mentioned Philip Kirkorov, who represents Cavalli in Russia, and the singer is happy that he personally knows the designer, Roberto was very surprised and exclaimed that he had never heard of such a woman. The journalists laughed, and Roberto was embarrassed. Later they explained to him that Kirkorov is the most popular Russian performer, but the designer waved his hand and said that he didn’t care because he didn’t know Philip.

7. Cavalli called Lagerfeld "ridiculous." Roberto has repeatedly said that he is the only normal guy left in the fashion world (hinting at his heterosexuality). In one of the interviews, Roberto was asked how he felt about his colleagues. Cavalli immediately mentioned Karl Lagerfeld and said the following phrase: “If you are a creative person, this does not mean that you should look strange and dress strange. Karl Lagerfeld always looks ridiculous."

8. Roberto has found a new life partner. Having lived with his wife Eva for thirty years, Roberto decided it was time to find a young replacement for her. This summer, photographs appeared on the Internet in which Cavalli was in the company of his young mistress Lina Nilsson. If earlier Roberto said that he admires women, now the 73-year-old designer does not hide his new hobby.
