Business aviation. What is business aviation? What problems does it solve?

We continue to look at the interiors of business jets presented at the September business aviation exhibition Jet Expo-2013 in Vnukovo.

Bombardier GE 6000 VistaJet

The people at Vista Jet value their reputation so much that before publishing these photos on the blog, they asked me to send them the photos to give them permission to post them online. Yes please, I don't feel sorry.

Company founder Thomas Flor: “I wanted to change private aviation so that people like you and me could have a simple business model and fly in complete comfort. Our philosophy is simple: to give you the best. It is at the core of everything we do.”

The company offers two types of transportation – “Your Program” for frequent flyers and “Flights on Demand” for those who use business aviation services from time to time. For example, fly to Monte Carlo, play roulette and get your body wet in the cool Mediterranean Sea, covered with a thin film of suntan oil...

Founded in 2004, Vista Jet has become one of the fastest growing private airlines in the world. Its Bombardier aircraft are located in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and West Africa and are ready to take you anywhere in the world. Every whim for your money!

Let me remind you that the plane can cover a distance of more than 11 thousand kilometers. A non-stop flight can be made, for example, from Los Angeles to Tokyo. In half an hour the plane can reach a cruising altitude of 13,100 m. The maximum speed of the airliner is 950 km/h at a flight altitude of 15,545 m

I asked one of the stures to give me a crumpled card, she went to ask another sture for a better one and she said that no, no, we won’t give that away! Damn, I should have grabbed the crumpled one and ran away while they were offering it. For the first time in a business jet there are safety instructions.

The brother of the previous aircraft is the Bobmardier GE XRS from ComLux Aviation.

Machine 9H-XRS belongs to Comlux Malta LTD, ST HELENA’S BUILDINGS TUMAS FENECH STREET BIRKIRKARA. The same aircraft was presented at the EVACE statics in Geneva (the coolest business aviation exhibition in Europe).

The Comlux Group of Companies provides modern, comfortable and reliable aircraft throughout the world on VIP charters. With their ramp, all small Comlux business jets seem to say: “I’ll fly wherever I want!” Saving time, yeah.

Maximum speed 935 km/h, flight range 11,112 km with 8 passengers and 4 crew members. Maximum certified flight altitude 15,545 meters

Located in the aft section, the lounge is separated from the forward command section by the salon conference area.

Modest, but tasteful, everything is certified and exquisite.

The table can be removed if desired, and the chairs can be folded out. But a long flight in a leather seat is questionable in terms of comfort, I suggest changing to velvety sofas, which are required to have seat belts.

The interior light control is pulled out from the side panel - the passenger can choose the environment and lighting to their liking.

The number of passengers is up to 19, depending on how many people the main passenger has in his retinue, but no more.

Everything in the cockpit is familiar and normal; we haven’t even gotten to the iPads on the dashboard yet... are they needed?

EMBRAER Legacy 650 – another one with its own gangway

The crew of this board carries everything with them - from a can of cola to signal vests.

But nevertheless, he is very sociable and ready to show his bird

And there is something to see here. Although it is not as large as the ACJ, there is enough space for both the Main Passenger and his accompanying persons.

You can discuss the problems of the global crisis, or you can just have breakfast while watching the sunrise through the window.

During climb and landing, all this beauty is removed - safety comes first!

Jackie Chan has just such an aircraft in his fleet. You can't stop flying beautifully.

It's always good to know what you're flying over.

And if you miss the comfort of home during the flight, teddy bears and pillows will create the atmosphere of your home’s living room on board.

The mimemeter is especially off scale at an altitude of 10,000 meters.

Not only the living room should be cozy, but also the toilet room. A flower is included for comfort. From Brazilians to Americans - GULFSTREAM G280.

The G280 has the longest range and cruising speed in the super-midsize business aviation category.

The G280 features the PlaneView280™ flight deck, which enhances safety by providing reduced pilot workload and improved situational awareness.

The most spacious cabin in its class, the G280 can accommodate up to ten passengers in two areas. The large on-board galley provides passengers with the highest level of comfort.

One hundred percent fresh air, low pressure, large windows and silence reduce fatigue and create a cozy atmosphere in the cabin.

They asked to film without details.

I don’t think this applies to pillows; they were the main trend at this JetExpo.

The owners do not prohibit removing parts of the pads, thank you.

And again the toilet room and again the flowers.

During the flight, access to the luggage compartment is free and it doesn’t matter if you put your gadget in your suitcase - no one will take it out without you.

Buy G280! It costs nothing - 24 million green!

Don't want a G280? So buy the G450, very inexpensively.

The Gulfstream G450 is a large, long-range business aviation aircraft, a direct descendant of the legendary GIV series aircraft, the most popular business jet in the world. With its intercontinental range, the G450 takes you from Dallas to Paris with ease.

The aircraft can reach a maximum operational speed of Mach 0.88 and carry a group of eight passengers up to 4,350 nautical miles (8,056 km) at a normal cruising speed of Mach 0.80.

Attention to detail.

G450 operators can choose from six interior configuration options to customize the cabin to suit their needs.

These individual cabin configurations provide comfortable seating for up to 16 passengers and six sleeping berths.

A kitchenette with a microwave and a sink for washing fresh vegetables and fruits brought from the markets of Central Asia.

A personal steward is not included as standard.

The technological level of the G450 flight deck is recognized as the highest in business aviation. The aircraft's avionics display critical flight status data on 14-inch (36 cm) LCD displays in landscape format. Buy our elephants!

Private aviation services in Russia are becoming increasingly in demand. Since the beginning of 2017, the market has grown by 7% and continues to confidently gain momentum. Airlines are purchasing new airplanes and helicopters to meet growing demand and customer requirements for private air transport. Analysts suggest that Russian business aviation has finally overcome the negative consequences of previous years and has moved to a new stage of development.

Businessmen, politicians, show business stars choose to travel by private aircraft for work purposes.

Private business aviation provides passengers with:

  • a unique class of aircraft for personal use with crew;

  • premium on-board restaurant service and a wide selection of alcoholic beverages.

Flights on private jets in Russia are becoming increasingly popular.

Private aviation is divided into 2 segments:

  • Business trips
  • Tourist

Business aviation services allow you to gain mobility on a global scale, and conduct a number of meetings in 1 day different countries or cities. Flying on vacation on private jets is very convenient for families or small groups.

Price of services – calculated for a specific route and date. It depends on a number of factors: the airline’s workload, the location of the aircraft, seasonal demand, flight range, aircraft model. What is business aviation?

In the mid-twentieth century, political leaders and businessmen from Western countries began to fly to all important meetings. This is how business aviation appeared - an industry that produces and maintains aircraft for corporate needs. Over time, jets have become smaller, lighter, more comfortable and faster.

Today, business aviation includes all companies involved in the development, production and operation of such aircraft.

What problems does it solve?

The first jets were very expensive. As a result, business aviation has become the privilege of the most powerful people. Many have flown on personal and corporate jets simply to impress their partners.

And it worked. The compact personal aircraft has become a symbol of high social status and influence. However, everything has changed.

Firstly, they began to fly on business jets not only for corporate, but also for personal matters. With their help, you can quickly and safely get to the venue of a football match of your favorite team or a concert of a musical group, a resort, etc. And this is no longer uncommon.

Secondly, flights have become much more affordable. To use a business jet, you do not need to buy it: you can simply rent it. If you distribute the cost of this service among all passengers, it can be even cheaper than sharing a flight on a regular flight.

Advantages

If we ignore the image advantages that the use of business aviation provides, we can identify three main practical features inherent in it:

  • safety;
  • speed;
  • comfort.

All flights on business jets are confidential. At the same time, you control the list of passengers and the contents of luggage, so the risk of a terrorist attack is also eliminated. You are in a safe zone even at the airport, because there are separate counters and a service hall for you. In addition, only experienced and psychologically stable pilots work in business aviation, and all equipment is supplied in fully working order.

There is no equal in the speed of business aviation. Make a decision to fly, and within 60 minutes the jet will take you into the air.

You choose the level of comfort to suit your needs. The airline's fleet includes standard, business and VIP aircraft. But in any case, you receive first-class service from polite and experienced flight attendants.

My choice of profession was predetermined from childhood: my father was a pilot. At that time, many of my peers dreamed of aviation, and I, to the envy of everyone, could always go with my dad to the airfield or get inside the plane.

Immediately after school I entered the Kiev Institute of Engineers civil aviation. At that time, it was the only university in the country that trained flight engineers for TU-154. After studying, I worked by profession for five years: first as a flight engineer in the Aeroflot division in Karaganda, then I accepted an offer to work as a representative of one of the Kazakh airlines in Germany. But in 2000 my flying career ended. The earthly life began: first in the passenger transportation department at East Line, and two years later he went into business aviation, where he rose to become the manager of VIP transportation at Aviaenergo airline. And in May 2005, he opened his own business together with his colleague Dmitry Akhmedov.

How the market works

There are aviation brokers on the market who manage private aircraft. Our company is among them. Some business jet owners give us their aircraft to manage: the owner flies two or three times a month, the rest of the time the aircraft is rented out. At the client's request, we can also organize flights on business jets of airlines or our market colleagues operating aircraft.

Business jets are usually based at Moscow airports. Most of them are in Vnukovo, followed by Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Ostafyevo. But there are cases when planes are parked at European airports - in Riga or Helsinki. This is because the cost of basing abroad is cheaper. And if the owner of the plane does not fly it very often, then it is cheaper to fly from Europe than to pay for basing and maintenance at our airports.

There are currently about a hundred companies on the business aviation market. There are about fifteen major players. The rest are small firms accompanying a couple of clients. According to our statistics, 70% of clients in the market are corporations.
Since their employees mostly fly on business trips, everyone promotes their services using conventional marketing tools - Internet advertising and active sales.

Flight cost depends on the supplier, route, customer and other factors. Average check
- 30–40 thousand euros

We act as brokers and take only commission; Flight and fuel surcharges are paid separately. The profit in our business is not very high: the margin is about 4–5%. So, from each flight it turns out about 1,000–
1,500 euros. The cost of a flight depends on the supplier, route, customer and other factors. The average bill is 30–40 thousand euros. Of the total cost of the flight, the airline will spend about 30–35% on jet fuel, 17–20% on taxes at airports, 1–2% on air navigation services in the airport area and along the flight route, 15–17% on in-flight meals, 10– 12% - for crew salaries. The rest falls on the operating costs of the liner, office rent and other related expenses.

The most requested route today is Moscow - London. Next come European cities such as Geneva and Nice. Sochi is gaining popularity in Russia: perhaps this was due to the Olympics.

How to book a plane

We work only with Russian clients. There were a couple of orders from foreigners, but these are isolated cases. When a call comes from a client, we immediately clarify the route, date, time, number of passengers and luggage. We also find out your dietary preferences. Let's say, if a person prefers food from a certain restaurant, then our courier can deliver it before departure. True, this is usually done by a catering company. Additionally, the color of the interior is discussed with the client.

Then the manager begins to look for a suitable aircraft. We do not cooperate with any specific airlines, but work with everyone. The main thing is that they have the right vessel. Our employee can call, make a request by email or in a special program. All information is recorded and analyzed. We take into account best price, year of manufacture of the aircraft, reliability of the partner airline. As a result, we offer the client 5–10 options to choose from. Usually people who call us don't know what model they want. And our job is to explain this to him.

The most often asked for is the Challenger; it is the one that many people hear most about. But such a choice is not always justified. There are customers who know the brand and want it exactly. It all depends on status and finances. If the level of a minister or his deputy, then initially they will not fly on an inexpensive plane, it will be from a Challenger and higher. The Global 6000 is the most popular aircraft among the elite. Business jets based on Boeing or Airbus are rarely ordered. They are distinguished not only by the luxury of their cabin, but also by their spaciousness: if such an aircraft usually accommodates 160–170 people, then for private flights it is converted to accommodate 19 seats. Most often, such planes are flown by their owners; airlines do not purchase such aircraft.
They are reluctant to rent them out; the owner will not give it to a stranger. Therefore, connections have to be made here. One of the most popular and affordable business jets is the Cessna. Clients often fly on Hawker aircraft, but they are a little more expensive. We also fly in helicopters. But their popularity is not so great; they take up less than 5% of the total number of our flights.

The minimum time in which we can organize a flight is four hours after the customer has said: “Yes, I agree to fly.” The most crucial moment comes when the flight is confirmed, invoices are issued and paid.
From this moment, work begins on the preparation and execution of the flight, most of which falls on the airline. They apply for a flight to the airport of departure and arrival, and receive permission to fly over a particular state. Our role is to communicate with the client and quickly obtain all the necessary information from him.

All personnel on board are airline employees. Previously, it was customary to send a flight manager on a flight to monitor the comfort of clients. At that time, business jets converted from Soviet aircraft were popular; there was a lot of space. In addition, the airlines were a little wild, you had to keep an eye on them. Nowadays, on small business jets, an extra person is uncomfortable. And the level of airlines has also become significantly higher.

Who flies business jets

Clients are constantly changing. Now we don't have any of the clients we had in the beginning. The reasons are different for everyone, but mostly businessmen buy an airplane and fly on their own. Or they decide that it makes no sense for them to spend money on brokers, and hire an employee to organize flights.

Recently we there was a client who showed up for the flight in a fur coat on a naked body, and during the flight broke the table on the plane

We have had different cases. At the dawn of business aviation, drunk men from the bathhouse could call at night with the request: “Let’s fly to Ust-Kamenogorsk tomorrow.” But this usually ends in nothing. Now we work at night when there is a flight at that time. You need to be in touch to control everything.

We recently had a client who showed up for a flight wearing a fur coat over his naked body, and during the flight he broke a table on the plane. I had to compensate for the damage from my own pocket and pay the airline a thousand dollars. There was a client who could order a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg for 10–12 thousand dollars and at the same time convince us that we should under no circumstances order in-flight meals. And come to the flight with a checkered string bag containing juice and some other provisions. A couple of times we took dogs around Russia for mating.

The manager always warns in advance about the volume of the trunk. But we often hear: “There are two of us, but the salon is for ten, let’s put the remaining suitcases in it.” This is contrary to aviation rules, which the captain will not allow to be violated. Because if an emergency landing occurs, the crew must evacuate everyone within 90 seconds, and if the cabin is littered with boxes and suitcases, then during an emergency landing they can crush someone or simply get in the way.

Of course, you can’t cancel the client’s “what if it fits in.” “What if” we had recently. The client was flying from Italy. I was warned about the size of the trunk. But he showed up for the flight with boxes of groceries and was very surprised why he was not allowed into the cabin with them. I had to leave some of the contents of his suitcases behind. This is a fairly common case: choose a plane with a small luggage compartment, say that four or five people will fly, and bring half the house’s belongings with you on the flight.

How does the crisis affect

On average we have about ten clients per month. A surge in activity is observed before the New Year, on November or May holidays. Two years ago there were more corporate mass flights. Now there are fewer and fewer of them, we have a 50/50 ratio in sales: business flights and private flights for leisure.

Recently, a European agency report contained information that sales in business aviation have recently fallen by 19%. Although our number of orders increased sharply before the New Year, despite the crisis period. Either people wanted to close ruble budgets, or we communicated with those who were not significantly affected by the crisis. Of course, we will still notice a reduction: a decline of 15 to 50% could easily happen.

The pace of development of business aviation in Russia and, in particular, in Moscow is so great that it is difficult to compare it with any other industry. According to experts, the business flight market is not yet fully saturated, which contributes to the emergence and development of new companies. All business aviation companies can be roughly divided into large operators and small ones. Each has its own niche, its own fleet of aircraft (own or leased), and its own layer of clients.

Business aviation airlines: equally divided between Russian and foreign operators

There are currently over 50 airlines registered in Moscow that provide business class flight services. This is approximately equal numbers of foreign and Russian players. At the same time, it is difficult to say which operator is a “pure” carrier (providing exclusively business aviation services). There are only a few such operators, while the rest provide brokerage services and play in the tourist air charter market to maximize market coverage. The largest market players provide management services (help interested businessmen and companies choose and purchase their own aircraft).

Clients prefer foreign aircraft to business aviation

As already mentioned, foreign business aviation airlines have a significant share in the Moscow air charter market. This trend was typical at the beginning of market development: when domestic carriers with their aircraft converted for business jets competed weakly with modern, comfortable, compact and inexpensive foreign jets.

However, recently the main Russian operators can afford to purchase and lease foreign-made business aircraft. Knowing the needs of your client, Moscow business aviation companies create the proper level of comfort, gradually expanding their influence.

As for the pricing policy offered by Moscow operators, it can be classified as average. However, the increasing level of competition, updating the fleet of equipment, new approaches to service, according to experts, will soon lead to cost optimization without affecting quality.

Business aviation companies: features of work

The most popular destinations provided by the capital business aviation airlines— flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg, to the Far East and to the Western European part of the continent.

Business class aircraft include aircraft whose capacity does not exceed 19 passengers. This is a rather relative concept, since in no country in the world (including Russia) business aviation is not regulated and has no legal status. All business aviation flights are classified by airports as civil aviation.

Which business aviation airline to choose?

The most popular in Moscow business aviation aircraft on average they can fly 7-10 thousand kilometers and have a capacity of up to 20 passengers. All popular business jets are foreign-made. Russian aircraft factories cannot yet offer a single small aircraft that could be called a domestic business jet.

However, Moscow operators still use converted Tu-154, Tu-134, Yak-42 and Yak-40 for flights. Their service life is close to exhaustion (there are still a few years left), after which they will have to look for an alternative replacement. It should be noted that clients of Moscow business air carriers still prefer to fly on foreign jets. We can list the most famous business aviation aircraft in Moscow. These are Hawker 800, Challenger 604, Global Express XRS, Gulfstream G200 and others.

With all the variety of airlines in the capital, the issue of choosing a suitable carrier remains relevant. Against this background, the operator Charter Tour stands out. The company provides its clients advantageous choice between Russian and foreign aircraft, has an optimal level of service and fair prices. And ordering a plane from this operator is no more difficult than calling a taxi.
