At first we laughed, but after a week we howled.
Prices for ski passes (passes for lifts and slopes) at resorts are almost the same everywhere, with a small difference - 40 euros/day, 200/6 days. and 350/13 days. Usually the price of the ski pass includes the use of ski buses that run between towns or valleys.
Prices in restaurants can vary by two times or more - depending on the location. Usually a glass of beer and mulled wine costs 4 - 6 euros, a dish in a restaurant - 10 - 30. The exception is Switzerland and, of course, the French Three Valleys, where a glass of beer can cost 12 euros or more, and a regular lunch - from 100.
Prices for training at ski schools also vary. I studied in Zermatt, Switzerland, where one individual lesson with an instructor cost almost 200 euros. In Austria it is 2 - 3 times cheaper. Switzerland is all expensive, hotels can cost a lot of money and be untidy.
You can get to the ski resorts of Austria from the airport of Innsbruck, Salzburg, Munich or Zurich. Everyone there rents a car or takes the train, which is cheaper and more comfortable. With a car there is a risk of stumbling upon closed passes, then you will have to make a detour of 200 - 400 km, and along mountain serpentines this happens as if in slow motion. Once it took us 24 hours to get to Zermatt.
France They usually criticize the service: not the nicest staff and poorly maintained trails - snowcats pass once a day. Although all this pales in comparison to the beauty of Mont Blanc and the extensive ski area, including ski safaris and parks for snowboarders. In France, ski in-ski out is popular (this means that, leaving the house, you put on your skis and go, then go down the mountain directly to the house). Resorts like Chamonix and Les Arcs are preferred by a quiet adult public who likes to have a good ride during the day, dine in the evening at a pre-booked restaurant and fall asleep by the fireplace at 9 pm. There is no vibrant nightlife. With the exception of Courchevel - everything is there.
The easiest way to get to the French valleys is through Geneva or by train (high-speed trains run daily from Paris to Chamonix, the journey is five hours).
Italian Val Gardena is located in the Dolomites, there are very beautiful places and good cuisine, a mixture of Tyrolean and Italian. Most of the tracks are designed for intermediate skiers, but there is also the famous championship track Saslong. You can get to Val Gardena from Verona Airport, Innsbruck (120 km), Milan (300 km), Venice (250 km) or Munich (300 km) by train or car.
What should you pay attention to if you are going on holiday to the Alps?
Beginners must take a training course in ski school- Alpine skiing requires special equipment and knowledge. Snowboarding, especially, is aerobatics. You don’t have to study alone with an instructor, you can do it in a group - it’s cheaper (30 - 50 euros/lesson) and more fun (in single file down the slope with the same poor fellows). At the first lesson, they teach you how to stand, brake and climb on skis - without this you won’t be able to go far. Then they lead you to practice exercises on the children's slide and only then take you to the adults. After a couple of seasons, you can start riding at an average level, but there is no limit to perfection; you can practice your technique endlessly.
From equipment You can only buy a special suit and thermal underwear. If you really want, you can wear boots. It is better to rent equipment (skis, snowboards) on site (10 - 30 euros/day). The rental has all the best and new. Young people, for example, in order to save money, take new models for a free ski test for 1 - 2 days, then in another test center, and so the week goes by. Carrying complete equipment for the whole family with you is very difficult; you need to pay extra for it during the flight, rent a minibus, etc. It is not worth it.
Of great importance in the mountains location. Proximity to the ski lift is its main asset. If you can’t rent a good hotel, take a modest apartment - it’s better not to have a spa than to stomp with skis on your shoulder to the remote outskirts every time or go to après-ski when the whole city is having fun. 1. Authenticity
Any village/town in South Tyrol is a romantic idealized reality. Every house here is beautiful, polished to a shine and cozy to the brim. The feeling of toy-likeness and thoughtfulness to the smallest detail is in everything. From any hotel to the ski-bus stop you don’t have to walk more than 5 minutes. Pass-throughs with escalators connect one street to another in places where it may be necessary for skiers with their heavy equipment.
Most of the hotels here have been run by families for generations. You are received as valued guests and accommodated in simple, but thoughtfully designed apartments for your convenience. This cozy simplicity is in both the layout and the lovely interior details.
We had our own personal entrance to the room and our own small Christmas tree, decorated with wooden hearts for the occasion of February 14th. All kinds of garlands made from spice seeds, orange peels and wood cuttings decorated almost every door.

3. Trails

4. Lifts
Ski lifts are a high-risk area in the mountains. But the right ski resort is a place where you can relax and take in the views. The photo below shows one of the few remaining, most inconvenient, in my opinion, lifts, where skis are inserted outside the cabin. This creates a bit of a rush when boarding. And here you can clearly see the quality of work of the resort staff. More than once the workers took my skis away to help me put them in while I climbed into the cabin.

The large cabin for 60 people is perhaps the only elevator that caused an uncomfortable tingling in the stomach. In 3 minutes, this cabin rises to a height of 1500 meters. This is a very popular route, and there is always a queue of people wanting to get to another ski region. The cabin is filled to capacity and it seems that all these people with heavy equipment are putting too much weight on the thin metal cables. But, as it turned out, everything was thought out here too. The number of people allowed onto the site is counted by a counter.

5. Lunch at an altitude of 2500 meters
You have breakfast early in the morning. By about 8:30 you're already on your way to the first lift station, and by nine you've already made your first descent and warmed up nicely.
