What is a Czech beer sauna? Czech baths: when did they arise and what are the differences? Beer baths in the Czech Republic

Pre-Christmas Prague, sparkling with the delicate shine of festive decorations, is drowning in dirty slushy snow. The storm has hit Europe, which is not accustomed to serious snow drifts and is not ready to deal with it. A walk through Prague with its majestic, gloomy and graceful architecture turns into jumping through muddy puddles and constant screams from drops falling from the edges of roofs. Even mulled wine can’t save you from the dampness of wet feet. A little further from the central square, we dive behind the glass door with the inscription Pivni Lazne, behind which lies true Czech bliss - Beer baths BBB (Bier.Bottich.Bad).

The imagination has already pictured the bubbling in the barrels beer, but in reality everything turns out to be not so romantic, but much more effective. In a spacious, comfortably darkened room there are three barrels made of a special type of wood that does not dry out and ensures a constant water temperature of about 35-37 degrees.

Whirls of water in a barrel- like a regular jacuzzi, only in this bubbling water unique brewing ingredients are dissolved - hop bitterness, tannins, crushed malt, auxiliary products of the fermentation process, yeast.

These components contribute to overall softening and regeneration of the skin, contain proteins and carbohydrates.

High temperature promotes active blood circulation, warms the skin and opens the pores. Leather, steamed and massaged with millions of seething bubbles, gratefully absorbs useful elements.

In the process of absolute relaxation in a barrel of bubbling water, you are supposed to drink Budvar beer in unlimited quantities, generously pouring it into a mug directly from huge vats standing next to the barrels - this promotes the removal of toxins and toxins from the body.

The present SPA, except that the exotic nature of the ingredients gives a completely special impression. The only unusual thing is that you can’t chat with your friends in the neighboring barrels - the water is bubbling too loudly.

After 30 minutes of pleasure, the water calms down, the softened bodies, soaked in the aromas of cleansing, are wrapped in sheets and laid on a bed with oats and wrapped in fluffy blankets.

Straw interacts with substances evaporating from the skin... In the meantime, you don’t want any conversations, no dinners, memories of slushy streets evaporate from the mind faster than magic remedies evaporate from the skin... Soothing music, soft twilight, a warm blanket and complete relaxation... Dream covers instantly.

After half an hour of such relaxation, you feel like after a week in the Maldives.

The skin is soft and tender, as if all my life before I had done nothing but leave beauty salons.

The effect is promised to last for two weeks.

The cost makes an even greater effect - only 1650 CZK per person, that is, 50 euros. It is hardly possible to find an hour-long SPA procedure in Moscow for 2000-2500 rubles with so many ingredients and such relaxation. Moreover, when booking a procedure, even one barrel out of three, no strangers are allowed into the room.

A beer bath for two in one barrel is also possible - 2500 CZK, or 75 euros. It is worth considering, as when visiting any bathhouse, that you need to be careful if you have high blood pressure and varicose veins.

Saunas and baths in Prague

Those who like to take a steam bath in the Czech Republic have plenty to do. There are many saunas in Prague. They are available in any water park, many swimming pools, spas and fitness centers. The original beer bath is very popular.

In the Czech capital you can find many establishments that provide their customers with a service called “beer bath” (pivni lazne). The meaning of the procedure is the same everywhere, but in each spa it has its own characteristics.

The long-awaited gym upgrade brought a lot of joy. Especially regarding the pool and sauna - the old one didn’t have them, but the new one does!
Now after training you can go and swim, and then take a steam bath in the sauna.
But somehow I still can’t get used to it, and it’s not that I don’t have time or my health doesn’t allow it. Nope. In a different.
How is it usually? In my backward, old-fashioned and non-European understanding - separately for men, separately for women, yes.
I don’t know how men do it in this case, but women usually come in wrapped in a towel. Sometimes they sit naked.
Or, if the sauna is shared, then everyone is in swimsuits. Or modestly wrapped in towels.
Or is there such twilight and steam that even if they are not wrapped up, it is not particularly visible and even somehow beautiful...

In general, everyone goes to the sauna that is “mine” together. Moreover, women - yes, are wrapped in towels from the armpits to the ankles. That’s how they steam with rare exceptions.
And men wrap themselves in short, short clothes... they come in, sit down, and immediately throw off this short shirt.

No, what am I? I've seen naked men, I'm not embarrassed. But somehow I still don’t feel very good about it, to be honest.
Sometimes it’s interesting to witness conversations: two naked guys of about fifty are sitting, small towels under their butts, legs spread wide apart (you know how men usually sit, right?), everything hangs so tired between their legs, the guys are sweating, puffing, rubbing themselves here and there , then there they discuss the markets:

“And my grandmother always brought chicken from the market on Fridays and cooked the soup afterwards - delicious!”
“Yeah, I remember how cows were sold in the markets!”
“I’ve been going to Naplavka lately, it’s interesting there”
“But I don’t. What’s the point of buying something there? They just inflate prices for supposedly vintage things, go find out who used them and where they got there from. It’s better to go to Kaufland and buy everything you need, new.”

The most interesting thing is that it’s mostly men of advanced age who take steam baths, and not Apollos at all: and it’s they who instantly throw off the towels. And if a handsome boy comes in, having worked hard for a couple of hours at the gym, he’ll sit there wrapped up like that!

Or just the other day.
I walk in and there’s steam on the bottom shelf.
She says that she wants to go back to school. She already has two degrees, but she likes the process, and she also thinks that it will help her in her career.
He nods understandingly and listens.
Their conversation turns to family stories - who his grandfather (editor of a large newspaper) was, hers (a peasant), how his parents treated their studies:
“My mother tried very hard for me to study well. And I sat, crammed, and was an exemplary student. But at the same time, I turned out to be completely unprepared for real life.”
He agrees: “Grades. Your parents cared about grades. And that doesn’t matter at all.”

So they sit and talk.
Naked, face to face, close to each other, legs intertwined, tits and pussies (sorry), folds of skin - all in front of them, before the eyes of each other and everyone else.

I walk in and somehow feel uneasy. Not because someone is naked nearby, or I shy away from naked people.
I just have a very strong feeling of discomfort because it seems to me that I am invading someone’s vulnerable and private zone, that I am becoming a witness to something that should not be so open, or something...
How strong are the moral standards laid down in childhood - no stormy youth erases them from the head.

And naked men and women come in, always politely greet each other, steam, chat, and just as politely say goodbye, leaving and quickly closing the sauna door behind them.

I guess I'll get used to it someday.
In the meantime, I’m thinking - if, say, it’s a couple. And they see each other so completely calmly everywhere and always, they sit naked and chatter, and everyone around them looks at them...
Isn't something lost in this?
What do you think?

I have been to a hamam: with walls lined with mosaics and stone beds, there were crowds of naked people, but there was no such feeling of discomfort... Probably because everything there was so beautiful, shimmering and sparkling. And, most importantly, it is very spacious and there are a lot of beautiful men - brunettes:

Taking an excursion into history, you can find out that today's newfangled procedures in beer appeared in the Czech Republic approximately 9 years ago in the Chodovar brewery. As visitors note, the interior design of the bathhouse, as well as the principle of operation, amazes with its originality and color. Procedures in a beer steam room help to cleanse yourself of toxins and toxins, as well as saturate the body with essential nutrients (for example, B vitamins, which are abundant in beer). The skin becomes smooth and elastic, and the effect lasts for several weeks. Those who love and honor superstitions note the ability of beer baths to protect against the evil eye.

Bathhouse design inside and how to use the steam room?

The bath vessel (oak barrel) is filled in equal proportions with mineral water and beer at a temperature of 36 degrees. There is no alcohol in the liquid. They dive into the barrel naked or in a swimsuit. Note that beer therapy without clothes is much more effective. While taking a bath, you should not abuse the intoxicating drink. The session lasts no more than 30 minutes. After relaxing in beer, you should wrap yourself up well and relax in the fragrant hay (preferably sleep). It is not recommended to wash yourself with water for 12 hours, since it takes time for the beneficial substances to be absorbed and penetrate into all cells of the body.

Among those who are popular with such a steam room, they should also know about the contraindications. These include:

  • pregnancy;
  • high blood pressure;
  • allergic reactions to hops;
  • diseases of the genitourinary system;
  • vascular diseases;

The fact that for Russian people a bathhouse is a shrine, a real ritual and a place of relaxation is known even to many. That is why, by the will of fate, finding themselves abroad - in Prague or another city in the Czech Republic - Russians begin to miss their favorite bathhouses.

On Russian-language forums in the Czech Republic, there are often topics about where you can go to take a steam bath in Prague and where Russian baths are located in the Czech capital in general. Anyone who dreams of relaxing and resting their soul and body in Russian baths in the Czech Republic is a must read.

Bathhouse and sauna are different

Wet steam

You can find a lot in common between a Finnish sauna and a Russian bath, but the most important thing distinguishes them: in a Russian steam room there must be humid air. Russians traditionally prefer wet steam, while in the Czech Republic and other European countries they “understand” only the sauna - where it is dry and warm.

Brooms from tree branches

Another main attribute of the Russian bath is a broom. It is made from branches of birch, oak, linden, etc. Brooms have a beneficial healing effect on the body. There is no Russian bathhouse without them. It is believed that birch broom relieves joint pain, cleanses the skin and heals wounds. Oak - has a beneficial effect on the skin, normalizes blood pressure. Linden helps get rid of headaches and cure colds.

Alcohol

The bathhouse is also a hangover cure. It is not without reason that lovers of the Russian bath believe that they will get rid of any illness as soon as they visit the steam room. The tradition of drinking alcoholic beverages is inextricably linked with baths.

While you can still afford a glass of beer after bath procedures, doctors strongly do not recommend drinking vodka in the bath. However, this is still not a hindrance for the Russians. Therefore, a Russian bathhouse must have a spacious dressing room, where there is a large table where you can eat and drink deliciously.

Pouring cold water

Another tradition in Russian baths is pouring cold water from a barrel or bucket, or dipping into cold water. With such sudden changes in temperature, the body experiences a colossal shock and urgently “restarts” in order to recover from the extreme shock. The person feels renewed and fresh.

So are there Russian baths in the Czech Republic? It turns out that there are, although there are not many real ones.

Russian baths in the Czech Republic: Podmoki village

One of the first Russian baths in the Czech Republic (as its owners dubbed it) appeared 50 km from Prague, near the resort town of Podebrady in the authentic village of Podmoki. This bathhouse was built by knowledgeable people who have been to Russia more than once and understand well how to take a steam bath.

The Russian bathhouse in Podmoki, Czech Republic, is built from a real log house. The steam room, shelves, benches, tables, decoration - everything is made of natural wood. Here you can take a steam bath with a broom, and then run outside and plunge into a small pool of cold water. After the bath procedures, a small group (up to 8 people) can sit at the table or by the fireplace and relax. This village bathhouse is apparently very popular, since you can only get into it by making an appointment by phone.

Russian bathhouse in Prague - in a log house

Another Russian bathhouse, built from a log house, is in Prague, in the Zlicin area. There are all the necessary attributes of a real Russian bathhouse: brooms, sheets, buckets for dousing, an open area for barbecue and even Russian satellite television. The capacity of this bathhouse is standard - 8-10 people. And you don’t need more, because you want to relax peacefully in a real Russian bathhouse, and not in a public place.

There are other baths and saunas in Prague and other cities of the Czech Republic, but whether they will offer a real wet steam room, good heat and brooms is a big question. Did you manage to find your Russian bathhouse in the Czech Republic? Share in the comments!
