The word “Belek” itself is translated from Turkish as “memory”. How can a ruler ensure that his fame lives on for centuries? Someone wages wars and seizes other people's territories, but Sultan Abdul-Aziz decided to leave a memory of himself among the people by planting the entire vicinity of Belek with magnificent pine and cedar forests. Later, eucalyptus groves were added to these trees. It especially stands out for its beauty. Forty years have passed since it was declared a national treasure and the main attraction of Belek. It is located sixty kilometers north of the resort, in the Taurus Mountains.

The Kepryuchay River in its lower reaches has seven canyons, but Kepryulyu is the most beautiful. The area of ​​the national park is more than 500 hectares. And this canyon is fourteen kilometers long. Tourists claim that you can go on an excursion here in the hottest heat - it’s cool near the mountain river. The canyon is especially striking with its high steep banks. Sometimes it becomes narrower - up to a hundred meters wide. And the height of the natural walls reaches 450 m. There are 600 plant species in the national park. Thirty of them are endemic, which can only be seen in the wild here. During the excursion, tourists can see waterfalls, cascades, and natural baths that the river forms on its way to the Mediterranean Sea. The Koprulu Canyon is popular among fans of extreme sports, as rafting on special rafts is carried out here.

Zeytin-Tash

This cave, whose name translates as “olive stone,” was discovered only twenty years ago. And immediately it was included in the list of attractions in Belek, as its underground world captivates visitors with its beauty. Of the 233 m of the entire length of the small cave, one hundred meters are reserved for guided tours. But even at such a short distance you can see a lot of interesting things. These include several underground lakes with crystal clear water, and a calcite lace of thin stalactites and stalagmites, reaching a meter in length. A special microclimate has developed in the cave over millions of years. It allows strange-shaped growths to develop. The excursion trail is illuminated in such a way that step by step visitors see new objects flickering in the darkness. The Zeytin-Tash cave is located north of the village of Serik.

History of Belek (Türkiye)

The resort's attractions are not limited to natural beauty alone. Before we begin to describe the historical monuments, we must devote a few words to the history of the city. Belek arose relatively recently - at the beginning of the fifteenth century, but the lands around it were inhabited for a long time. Archaeologists have found artifacts of Persian origin dating back to the fourth century BC. And in the second century BC, the Hellenic port of Riskopos arose not far from modern Belek. When these lands were captured by Rome, and especially when the city chose them as its residence, it reached its maximum prosperity in the ancient era.

Under Byzantine rule, the entire area around Antalya suffered from frequent and destructive earthquakes. Many cities fell into decay, and some of them were completely abandoned. New life was breathed into this region by the Seljuks, who in the 13th century conquered these lands from Byzantium. And when the Ottoman Empire was established, in 1423 the small fishing village received its current name - Belek. For a long time, nets were dried and boats were repaired on wonderful beaches. But in 1984, the Turkish government decided to turn Belek into an international resort. By attracting funds from investors, beautiful hotels were built, golf courses were laid out, and a modern infrastructure of the city was developed. That is why the historical sights of Belek should be sought outside the resort.

Perge

This is a very ancient city. It was founded by the Hittites as Parha. But the city reached its greatest prosperity under the rule of the Romans. In the second century BC they built a theater in Perga (on the site of the old Greek one). This structure is the best preserved in Asia Minor. Also here you can see the ruins of watchtowers, fortress walls, baths, and the portico bordering the forum. Perge is on the “must see” list for all tourists visiting Belek. Many who have visited Belek say that there is nothing to do outside the hotel territory. This is partly true, but I myself lived in Belek for 4 years, so I know that if you wish, you can organize a pastime outside the hotel.

So, if you are tired of being on the hotel premises all the time and want at least a little variety:

1. Last year, a beach park (beach park) opened in Belek. It is located next to the Syllium Hotel. The park is mainly intended for local residents and foreign property owners as a public beach, a place for walking and a place to sit in a cafe or restaurant. So, five-star guests have nothing special to do there, but as a purpose, a walk along the seashore is quite suitable. From any hotel in Belek you can walk to it along the shore, the main thing is to choose the right direction. The prices in the local cafes are VERY low, so you can drink beer or have a snack without being too upset that the hotel has already paid for it.

2. If you still choose the wrong direction for your walk, don’t worry, you will still come to the beach park, only this time it belongs to the village of Kadriye. Prices are already much higher here, but there is a ranch-style Mexican restaurant where you can ride a horse.

3. In Kadriye you can see the so-called “garden of religions” - a place where there is a synagogue, church and mosque in one small area. This place is intended to show the Turks' tolerance towards all religions.

4. If you suddenly want to eat outside the hotel, I can recommend a fish restaurant (Balik Evi) in Belek, as a guide you can ask Disco Stone. The atmosphere is so-so, but you can sit outside and the food is quite tasty. The Pasha bar recently opened, the owners tried to create a modern design and they say it turned out very well, although I haven’t been there myself. You can go to the already mentioned Mexican restaurant in Kadriye Beach Park. Well, during the day, as an exotic option, you can visit the golf club - National Golf (in Kadriye), admission to the clubhouse is free (you can say that you will take golf lessons) and there is a good restaurant with European cuisine, prices are moderate.

5. If you are interested in history, 15 minutes drive from Belek there are the ruins of the ancient city of Aspendos. The amphitheater is especially interesting. It is very well preserved and in the summer various concerts are held there: classical music, opera, dance shows. Russian musicians often participate. The concert is definitely worth attending! Amazing experience - excellent acoustics, wonderful atmosphere of the ancient amphitheater. However, you will have to sit on stone steps, so don't forget to take something like pillows. But it's really worth it. At the entrances to Aspendos there are picturesque restaurants, some with fish, some serving gozleme (Turkish flatbread).

Also about a 20-minute drive from Belek are the ruins of two other ancient cities, Sillyon and Perge. Sillion is located on a hill, when leaving Belek on the main road towards Antalya you can see it - a hill with a flat top.

6. If you are not going rafting, then you should at least see the places where it takes place - Koprulu Canyon National Park. Firstly, the nature is really very beautiful. Secondly, there are several restaurants along the road where they cook trout. Well, besides, there are the ruins of another ancient city - Selge. The name koprulu canyon translates as canyon with a bridge. An ancient Roman bridge across the canyon where the river flows (along which rafting takes place).

7. Belek is located half an hour from Antalya. In addition to standard shopping, there is something to do in Antalya. Firstly, it is worth visiting the Duden waterfalls. Nizhny Duden is located in Lara - this is a river falling from the rocks into the sea. The spectacle is very beautiful. There is a cafe and a restaurant. They are municipal, so I don’t recommend eating anything, but you can sit in a cafe, drink tea, there is a very beautiful view of the sea from the rocks. Upper Duden waterfall is located in the northeast of Antalya, in the upper reaches of the same river. Actually, this is a group of waterfalls, also a very beautiful place, there are several picturesque restaurants. East of Duden there is another waterfall, Kursunlu, they say it’s also very beautiful, but I haven’t been there myself. You can stroll through the old town in the center of Antalya, narrow streets leading down to the harbor where you can take a yacht ride for an hour or two. In the evening it is worth going to Konyaalti Beach Park - many bars, discos, various restaurants, cafes, etc. - a very lively place where the youth of Antalya hang out.

How to get there?

Due to its small size, the resort does not have its own airport, so the question of how to get to Belek is asked by most tourists. Fortunately, the developed transport system allows you to do this without serious delays or any difficulties.

To Belek by plane

The first thing you need to do to find yourself on the snow-white coast of Belek is to buy a plane ticket to Antalya. This is easy to do, since most major Russian airports have regular flights to this resort, if not daily, then at least 3-4 flights a week. Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot provide the most aircraft to this destination. There are also many charters, but Fly Air has the cheapest tickets.

The starting price of a ticket to Antalya without luggage departing from Moscow starts from 4,500 rubles.

Other ways to get there?

The easiest way to get from Antalya Airport terminal directly to the hotel is to book a minibus transfer. Having reached the bus station, feel free to go to the ticket office to buy a ticket to Belek. it will cost 15-20 liras, depending on the availability of air conditioning and other amenities. Buses run every 15 minutes all summer, so you won’t have to wait long for your flight.

Well, for those who prefer complete comfort, it is better to take a taxi directly at the terminal. Taxi drivers transport passengers at fixed rates starting from 40 liras per person. For comparison, they will not take you to Antalya for less than 60 liras, since the capital of the region is located further from the airport than Belek.

Despite all the luxury of the resort, shopping in Belek is the weakest vacation spot. There are no large shopping areas here, and the usual oriental bazaars are so small that you can get around them all in just a couple of hours. And the assortment itself is far from the bulk of Turkish cities - most of the goods are tailored for wealthy Europeans.

What to buy?

Belek markets operate on two streets - Ataturk Avenue and Mehmet Akif Boulevard. The clothing and food aisles are strictly divided, and the busiest trade takes place on Saturdays from 9:00 to 20:00, although half of the sellers leave after noon, not wanting to work in the heat. Bargaining, as everywhere else, is accepted, but it is difficult to influence the price - the local Turks are accustomed to rich Germans and Scandinavians paying without haggling.

As such, Belek's shopping centers can be counted on one hand. And it’s not even that they are unpopular - it’s just that in a city with a population of a thousand people there is simply no one to work in large areas. Therefore, the priority here is for small boutiques and clothing stores representing leading Turkish brands of clothing, accessories and jewelry.

This may surprise many, but most stores have at least one Russian-speaking employee, and some stores defiantly display huge posters on their windows with the words “Discount” and “Sale”. You can evaluate how “big” this discount is by getting to Antalya and comparing prices, where they are at least 30% lower.
